      I have the same problems the conventional doctors know zero on gut issues and these are the 3 Gi doctors I have just gone too. I have been researching on my own and getting more information. The doctors just give you all those PPi’s and drugs on the same lines that give you more problems. My friend has polyps in her stomach and is in pain…….I read up on this and found out PPi’s can give you polyps in the stomach. I told her to mention it to the doctor next time. But most likely the doctor will blow it off and say no because they want to push those drugs. I am sure my friend also has other stomach problems too. Her diet is not good.

      Being constipated causes us l to reabsorb toxins through the gut lining and they come out wherever they can like the skin.
      Acne is inflammation and also overburdened liver.
      When everything is coming out the way it should (the colon), it also relieves the liver.
      Eating a lot of raw ripe fresh organic alkaline produce helps detox and keep bowels moving in my experience. Leaving out inflammatory foods like nightshade plants, nuts, berries, citrus and all starches for a while if necessary.

    Great video. Healing leaky got / eating low FODMAP is so confusing. I bought the Monash FODMAP app, which says Kefir and high fat cultured yoghurt are both high FODMAP, and should thus be avoided - but here I'm hearing they're great. My challenge is identifying what's actually good for me. Some foods give me eczema, some give me upset stomach, but my suspicion (which I can't really test) is that the foods that really caused by leaky gut might not give me any immediate symptoms, and thus go under my radar - like lectins or gluten. I have no idea.

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  7 месяцев назад +4

      Totally understandable that you feel that way - sometimes whether or not to include specific foods can seem difficult to parse. On some level, once you’re prepared to try an elimination diet or other diet modifications, it comes down to what foods work for you. Kefir is a great example (lactose-free kefirs are usually considered low FODMAP) - many people find its probiotic content extremely beneficial, while others can’t tolerate it because they react to fermented foods. There are a lot of other intersections to consider too - not just FODMAPs, but histamine sensitivity and other food intolerances. Monash is one of the best resources for guidance on low FODMAP, but they’ll sometimes give variable values for the FODMAP content in foods based on, for example, the naturally occurring variance in certain raw foods, portion sizes, etc.
      These elimination diets are designed to get you on the right track, and only include foods that are generally helpful, anti-inflammatory, and non-reactive. But ultimately, it comes down to what options within those foods sit right with you and what your body tolerates best.

    • @Pechanni
      @Pechanni 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@DrRuscioDC Thank you very much for the thorough reply. Do you think I can use immediate symptoms (eczema, flushing, upset stomach - all of which happen within 1 hour of consumption) as a proxy for what I can tolerate, or is it likely/common that certain foods won't give any immediate symptoms but nevertheless cause/maintain leaky gut?

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Pechanni I think it’s a mix. The short answer is yes, we know some foods generally promote inflammation and can contribute to ongoing leaky gut/other issues, so it’s best to avoid them during a true elimination diet.
      In general, if you have the symptoms you’re describing immediately/soon after consuming a specific food, it’s a good indication that you might have an intolerance.
      It sounds painstaking - and in a way it is, so I really empathize - but, depending on how severe your symptoms are, going one by one, one food at a time, and seeing how you feel/react can help narrow it down, especially if you’re unsure of what specifically is causing your symptoms. But I’d advise doing that while already strictly following an elimination diet - so cutting inflammatory foods out entirely for now, regardless of if they seem to cause a reaction or not.

    • @roxannebudd1978
      @roxannebudd1978 7 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, this, but I have both histamine intolerance and MCAS and react to so many things. You really have to eliminate and very slowly add foods back in. I can only eat fresh meat and veg and everything cooked has to be eaten right away or frozen til eaten. I can thankfully eat fresh greens and lots of different meat, but people with this can also react to ground meat, bone broth, collagen, protein powders or slow cooked meat. Also I can’t do any probiotics without reactions.😢

    The only way to properly blitz this issue is green shakes plus buckwheat/quinoa 3 times a day for 100 days. It's horrendous, but works. I have put severe RA into remission doing it. And after that a strict WFPB oil free diet. Clint Paddison's Ted Talk changed my life. Amen!

    Having been diagnosed with Lyme/Bartonella/Babesia, I'm experiencing leaky gut for the first time. Histamine, for me, is a no-no and cause of significant suffering. So fermented foods are off the list. Makes taking in healing foods very challenging and trying to figure out what to eat. Bone broth is high in histamine, a go-to for healing the gut is off my list.

Are these O.K.? I have been so overwhelmed lately with what I can and cannot eat. I believe this anxiety is causing gut issues, yes? What is your opinion on eating gluten-free bread? They seem to have a lot of ingredients in them. I am also doing a "no wine" for two weeks trial to see if that helps heal my gut. I really enjoyed this video.

      I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
      Low FODMAP, like other diet modifications and elimination diets, is generally meant to be done short-term. Some people have success adding foods they love back in after the fact, while others still have trouble tolerating certain foods. It’s hard to say what will happen because it comes down so much to the individual.
      I empathize with how overwhelming it feels, especially at the outset. Looking at it as a trial period rather than a lifelong change might help reduce some of that feeling. There are also many great low FODMAP recipes and substitutions that people have created to replace foods they love while on the diet. I know it’s hard, but try to stick with it - being strict and careful about it for the entire duration gives you the best chance at the biggest payoff.

      I had horrible gut issues a few months ago. Couldn’t eat anything without bloating and feeling horrible. Been eating leaky gut/SIBO diet for a few months, and now I can eat anything again. Last week I ate normal pizza with gluten and lactose and had no issues. You can actually heal.
      I’ve been eating meat, chicken, fish, eggs, ginger, bone broth, blueberries, leafy greens, some vegetables, turmeric, water with lemon, carbonated water etc. Basically real food. When I say I ate meat I don’t mean processed stuff, I mean pork chops and foods with one ingredient. Minced meat is ok, but not sausages and so on. I also ate avacado, coconut milk, and if you need carbs eat white rice. Basmati is best for the gut I think. I also used salt on my food for the taste. But avoid any sugar if you can.
      I also took probiotic every day, and L-glutamin. Vitamin D, vitamin C, omega 3 supplement.
      Gut will heal after some months, and you can eat. Normal again.
      Avoid: gluten, dairy, sugar, processed foods, sucralose.
      Good luck. There is light in the end of the tunnel.

    Hi
    I AM 42 years old man, I don’t drink alcohol, never smoked, no drugs etc. I have very eat life without stress and I would describe myself as a friendly and positive person- but 😂 I discovered just after 30 that I have very often headaches and them I have to go to the toilet few times- i stated to make a note with food I previously had- I have food intolerance after eating - celery , red and white cabbage, buckwheat, millet, barley, seafood, almonds, pistachios, cranberry, dry and fresh plums, raisins, oats, beef , turkey, duck, lamb and wild meats ( except chicken and pork) !!
    Also alkohol is not good for me , the same like wine ( especially red) I don't like beer, so I don't drink alcohol at all.
    I love white and green tea.
    I had meningitis when I was a child - if that helps.
    I have allergie or strong response from my body ( especially my eyes ) after taking acetylsalicylic acid.
    I have never had a stomach ache after eating anything in my life!!! I always have a headache first - it usually lasts up to 20 hours after eating and then I have to go to the toilet several times (I have slight diarrhea).
    I am 182 cm tall and I weigh 72 kg. I have an athletic figure, I don't have any diseases, I had hernia surgery when I was a child and once again at the age of 30, this time on both sides of my groin.
    I had few appointments with doctors and dietetics unfortunately, none of them was able to help me.
    I started to have strange symptoms : I had a very long-lasting cough for almost 3 months and now I feel like I have something in my throat and I have to cough quite often - I have such a hoarseness.
    I started to cure myself using / taking :
    Candex SIBO 45 Capsules ( contains : calcium, Grapefruit speed, Berberine oregano extract, Reishi)
    2. L-Glutamine 500mg 90 Capsules
    3. Glutamine power
    4. Creatine monohydrate
    5. Collagen peptides
    6. Zinc Magnesium and B6
    7. Vitamin B complex
    8. Vit D3
    9. AAKG.
    10. Probiotics: 60 Billion CFU Pro Bio
    Cultures Complex - 60 Capsules (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and
    Saccharomyces boulardii)
    Mastic gum
    Betaine HCl
    Sometimes I feel very well but them all symptoms returned to me again.
    I was thinking to start keto diet for a few weeks to see if that's will help me. Eliminate flours, sugars and dairy.
    Have you ever encountered a similar case or know how I can help myself?

      SIBO/dysbiosis (bloating, diarrhea/loose stools) + histamine or other biogenic aline (tyramine, cadaverine, pitrescine) intolerance (food reactions to beef, other red meat wine, other fermented foods)
      - you should try a prokinetic if you feel bloated often after eating. Examples are pharmaceuticals like prucalopride 0.5mg, domperidone, low-dose erythromycin, non-pharmaceuticals are ginger extract + artichoke extract
      - remove foods you are sensitive to and reintroduce a few weeks later SLOWLY one by one. DO NOT STAY ON A RESTRICTED DIET!!! You need to reintroduce. Don’t fall for the carnivore or keto hype.
      - reduce psychological stress and anxiety disorders, especially health anxiety. There are a lot of hypochondriacs in these spaces. Also: sleep well. These two factors can drastically influence your gut lining integrity and immune response
      - try supplementing soluble fibers such as FOS, XOS, HMO, GOS to feed keystone species producing SCFA and lactic acid in order to acidify the colon and reduce proteobacteria (they thrive in more neutral to alkaline pH), which produces a lot of biogenic amines.
      - stop taking that insane amount of other supplements and get your nutrients from actual food. Maybe keep the probiotics.

    Thank you so much for sharing this! I recently added more plants to my diet and my gut isn't really liking it. I found that if I take a Bean Assist enzyme capsule (Alpha Galactosidase) with broccoli and beans it greatly helps with the gas, bloating, and stomach discomfort. But I wonder if this is something that's safe to take every day because it mentions "occasional" on the label? And will my need for this enzyme decrease over time? Thanks again for your content.

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  7 месяцев назад +1

      That enzyme should be safe for long-term use. However, you’re right that digestive enzymes aren’t necessarily designed for that purpose.
      Ideally, they’re a temporary fix that give you gut time to heal, at which point you can reduce or discontinue. But anecdotally, some people who have trouble digesting certain foods use them long-term for those foods specifically.

I'm averaging 4-5 antibiotics a year, cannot fight infections on my own (daycare chest infections). Now the antibiotics are causing my gut to inflame and heart to race. These repeat flares have lasted 4 years and I cannot get out of this cycle. Doctors have dismissed me. Probiotics help, then everything is destroyed with antibiotics.

I don't know your situation and it sounds like you get some serious infections. Keep trying to heal your gut / immune system when you are not having to take antibiotics. Also look into (check with your doctor) things like Zinc, Elderberries (I take the Elderberry Gummies with Zinc (no vitamin C - I try to get that from whole foods - some say you shouldn't take the supplement for Vitamin C as well). Some other things to help with the immune system are Vitamin D (fat soluble so we take it with Cod Liver Oil or Coconut Oil), Fire Cider, SIBO Yogurt (L. Reuteri), homemade fermented foods - Sauerkraut, Kombucha, Kefir although, you may want to limit things like that if you do have Leaky Gut - I'm not sure on that yet. It is still bacteria that can get through the stomach lining into the blood so that might not be great. I hope you are able to find a way to get your immune system working again so that you can start feeling better.

      Hi there! Both are theoretically useful in diagnosing leaky gut, but neither are completely accurate for clinical use. We go over these two as well as other common leaky gut tests here: drruscio.com/leaky-gut-syndrome-test/. The nice thing is, you don’t necessarily need a test to heal your body. If you present with the symptoms of leaky gut, you can take steps to heal your gut regardless of if you have these biomarkers. Plus, many leaky gut therapies, like elimination diets or introducing probiotics, are useful for a broad spectrum of GI conditions - so they may still help even if you’re dealing with something other than leaky gut.

If I recall correctly, the US has somewhat different standards for defining “gluten-free” than other countries do, so, for someone very sensitive, some non-wheat grains like the ones you mentioned may still cause a reaction.

    I think the advice on FODMAPS is either wrong or needs to come with a caveat. If you suffer from SIBO (verified with a simple breath test), then absolutely cut out FODMAPS and get your SIBO under control with anti-microbials, Rifaxamin, etc. FODMAPS will feed your SIBO and worsen leaky gut. But if you don't have SIBO, then you should be eating FODMAPS to support your microbiome. FODMAPS are a very broad category and I think the mistake here is that there are overlaps between high FODMAP foods and foods that are bad for leaky gut. Wheat is the perfect example. It's high FODMAP, but it's actually the gluten that's the problem. Legumes are high FODMAP, but it's the high lectin content that's doing the damage to your gut. Uncooked high fiber veggies can be problematic as well to leaky gut. So don't focus on the FODMAPS. Instead focus on eliminating gluten, high lectin foods, and raw veggies. But do eat FODMAPS. Other than that, the advise in the video seems to be spot on.
