An all-too-large percentage of the population suffers from poor sleep, achy joints, feelings of fatigue, brain fog, and what I call FLC (“feel like crap”) syndrome. This epidemic has a number of factors, most of which are caused by our modern lifestyles and diets. But one of the major factors of such dysfunction is poor mitochondrial health.
In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I dive deep into our mitochondria-what it is, why it's so important, and what you can do to support your mitochondrial health.

“Doctors use Stress as an Excuse”. YES THEY DO!
I pray 🙏🏿 for and end to SIBO, SIFO, IBS and all other GI disorders and diseases.
:(
Amen
In the name of Jesus… amen, amen
Please don't rely on prayer. God helps those who help themselves. Many gut issues are helped/cured with a good diet. No white sugar, potatoes, or white flour. Eat plenty of meat/fish protein and healthy fats: avocado oil, olive and coconut oils as well as tallow (beef fat), duck fat. No seed oils: no canola, soy, safflower, sunflower oils, grapeseed, etc. There are a ton of bad oils used in food production in this country.
@@beckyraskin3280wow! Well said, I couldn’t agree more. if we keep praying and ask God to heal us from illnesses while we sit on our butt eating all the garbage that this country is pushing and shoving into the “American healthy eating” we will never heal and then blame God! Let do the hard work, do your research and start cleaning your fridge and pantry. We just want to do the easy part which is complain and pray!!!
The stress of IBS causes mental health issues. After I developed Cdiff, my mild case of IBS went off the charts. The stress of not being able to function creates a vicious cycle of coping issues.
I eventually learned to manage my IBS which disturbed me when I was stressed. It was replaced by brain fog dizziness and a host of other problems.
@@tatianagolitsyn675how did u manage it?
@@denisemartin3603 I managed my IBS by diet - eating high fibre, excluding fried food and candy. Eventually I could eat more, but when stressed I would eat carefully. But I'm not recommending my path, because now my health is worse with adrenal fatigue.
I have been suffering for years! Every gastrologist these days seems to go by the same playbook. They don’t seem to have a clue as to what’s going on! Why do I have to be the one to go on RUclips and educate myself when they should be doing it? I found out more in this video than three years of going to doctors trying to solve my problem. I tested positive for methane Sibo and none of these people that I’ve seen seem to know what it is or how to fix it. Thank you so much for the information!
The medical profession in the U.S. is an unmitigated disaster. As you stated, doctors by and large are clueless. It's almost unbelievable how bad they are. Yes, each of us must be our own doctor and figure things out for ourselves with the help of the rare good doctors who share their knowledge on platforms like RUclips.

Hello sir, kindly can you tell me how you cured methane SIBO.
Thank you for not blaming the victim with the lazy diagnosis of emotional stress!
😭 the way he cares is what i would have strived to be as a doctor. really changing lives for the better. thank you dr pimentel and thank you for having him on your channel and for everything you do. great questions.
Pimentel is an absolute genius and his advice on anything related to SIBO and IBS needs to be listened to very carefully.
Dr Pimental is at Cedars in Los Angeles bur doesn't take patients so I asked of the other doctors do Dr Ps protocol. Let me tell you Cedars may be good bur when you call they cannot tell you what protocol they go by or any info on anything. They will nit suggest a doctor to you based upon any symptoms you have. But UCLA will tell you what doctor is best for your situation.
Is a con artist he hasn’t had one cure for Sibo
I’m surprised that there was no mention of GMO foods and their connecting to disrupting the microbiome OR other pesticides, herbiscides, refined sugar/carbs. All of these chemicals were exposed to from our food and environment was not mentioned. This should obviously been looked at and it connection to patients relapsing.
Yeah, no one wants to talk about how we are being poisoned…😂
There are literally thousands of different things that will affect us. Unfortunately not everyone has the time to list an Appendix to please everyone.
Ultra-processed foods👎🏾
Yeah, it's very interesting to listen to Dr Zach Bush talking about glyphosate and how that affects us.
I agree with you great comment thank You 😘
Mark Pimentel is the absolute leading researcher regarding Small Intestinal microbiome research and is on his way to find proper root cause treatment of many IBS cases. He’s truly one of the game changers.
He’s a useless idiot. He hasn’t done anything to cure sibo . He told me to take all these rifaximin said I wound up with C. difficile and almost died. The guys are complete, moron.
Why are there so many bad reviews in regards to his book then?
Reviews are opinions. His research on the pathophysiology of 60-70% of IBS cases is what's important.@@hfaith81
@@hfaith81 A lot of people keep up with the research as it comes out so it's nothing new for them.
@@hfaith81 Dr. Pimentel is a joke. All he can do is prescribe rifaximin, and neo myosin which doesn’t work and can cause see so which can kill you. He has done nothing to cure Sibo. He’s an opportunist, a stupid Sibo diet, which is completely useless.
Wiw thank-you so much. I am learning every day. Years of gut problems until it eventually tipped into a chronic incredible debilitating condition. The sad thing is many of us cant afford to go to someone who could really help ie..functional practitioner and all our medical system in nz is sooo archaic that the just try to give you a antidepressant therefore symptom treat. Luckily I have a little background in natural health and have been able to treat myself but its been hard. Podcasts like this give me more food for thought in order to carry on and get to the root cause of my condition. So thank-you once again 👍
I love Dr Pimentel...I mean anybody that has SIBO is relying on him for his research...love Dr Hyman as well...He's always on top of current medical topics. I had no idea there was a book.
All the facts in the world will never change the mind of an idiot
I disagree with Pimental about stress not causing sibo. My wife had been quite healthy up until a change to her job role and responsibilities which she became VERY stressed about. Within a month she developed sibo. I'm certain cortisol and adrenals played a major part in that.
Dr. Berg says it can also be caused by low stomach acid. Low stomach acid can be caused by stress.
@@jamiesouza yes, you're right. Also magnesium and/or vit B1 deficiency.

How long has it been?
Hi! What diet modifications helped you eliminate your methane SIBO?
Any update?
How did you get it diagnosed?
The thing that saved me back then was Thymol (Thyme Oil), Dr. Hyman. Here they extract it by VCO (virgin coconut oil), but I hear that Pau D'Arco, Grapefruit Seed Extract and Olive Leaf Extract are also beneficial for SIFO. Thymol cleared my H. Pylori overgrowth which my internist failed to eradicate by three times shots of antibiotics.
Thank you for your works in this area. It is an enlightment for the people. =)
Thanks for that info!
@mayawidyasari6827 how did you cure Sibo?
Those antibiotic treatments suck so much… I had to do 2 for H. Pylori 😭😭😭 I will give thyme oil a try to maintain… I’m also taking oregano oil… and mastic gum because I want to make sure it stays away and never returns 😩

I'm glad people are working on this! We need answers to this common health issue!
Dr Hyman is great but he talks so much about himself. He takes everything back to himself and what he does etc other than that great interview. So much info!!!
Amazing info !
Thanks a lot for this video. Very underrated 🌼
But what if you have leaky gut and sibo and imo and more and you HAVE to be on antibiotics? What then? I'm going through hell with all of that, but with the crappiest of providers imaginable. I've had to hold their hands and they still can't get it right. *sigh* I need to win the lottery
Then why do you go to them?
Jus5 wondering, why do you need to be on antibiotics? ( Do you have cliff ?)
If you need to be on antibiotics you can use the safe ones, like: oreganos, colloidal silver, mastic gum, grapefruit seed extract
This is one of the most informative interviews. Thank you very much and I’ll look up the links to order some of these tests

I have taken my bloating matter in my hand after all FODMap endoscopy AND colonoscopy I did my research as how can I help myself? I started drinking a tea of (mixture of anise fennel cardamom cumin ginger tea ) I made a habit of this early in the morning and two hrs before going to bed ) definitely see I saw the benefit difference. Also, as much as I could I cut the sugar and bread, gluten free and dairy products from my diet. I feel better still have to include intermittent fasting and detoxing my liver. One process at a time I will feel better and better every day in every way 🙏
I’ve heard about this combo tea you’re taking for your gut issues but I’m not quite sure how to do it. Do you by the herbs separately and grind them and make a tea or do you purchase a tea with all those ingredients? I would be very excited to try it appreciate any advice thank you
Dear Aslanlela, hope you're feeling 3-months down better today :) Me too would be interested how you prepare that tea. Would you kindly share?

Thank you so much , that helps me to look at different approaches to I B S.
Thankyou so much for this video. I have struggled so much with IBS-D. My GI doctor put me on steroids and the side effects were terrible. She kept prescribing different types and each time the side effects were worse than the frequent bathroom trips. I stopped going to her and went the naturopath way. It has helped a little but I now have food anxiety and am too scared to eat a wide variety of foods. I am going to buy this book and try a new GI doctor who may run more tests so I can get on with my life. Thankyou Dr Hyman. Please keep making these type of videos.
Ibs d might be bile acid malabsorption which most doctors don’t see into ! Check out with your gastro .
Did you have an endoscope down throat WITH biopsies and the Tri breath test that tests for all 3 diseases. These two tests will give you answers. BUT my doctor didn't tell me everything on tests until I asked questions so ask questions. These doctors are tired. Mine said let's just leave it alone, I said I don't want to wait until I'm dying...he said you're not dying. Next time I'm goung in with no make up so he can see what I'm hiding
Thank you.
After spending thousands of dollars on different practitioners, I read Dr. Hyman’s handbook on IBS where he talked about SIBO and SIFO. I had my Dr. prescribe me the drugs (the neutoceuticals were too strong for my body) and just like that my problems were gone. The upkeep is a bit harder. You have to figure out why your gut/ intestines are not moving properly and causing the food to sit there and fester.
Did you have hydrogen or methane? I’ve been trying to do the herbs but thinking about taking the plunge into the antibiotics. Thank you

I showed this video to my doctor after struggling for the past two years with no positive results from anything else that I tried. My PCP decided to put me on Xifaxin and metronidazole. Four days after I started doing medication I felt terrible, but I thought it was from the die off. I finished both worship, and before I started. It’s been three weeks since I finish the medication and I am in terrible shape. The gas and bloating increased along with the pain in my stomach on the left side, and I am so weak at times I can barely walk. The inflammation is also affecting my eyesight and my ears. During a flareup in my stomach, I know I have the origin and tinnitus in both ears. I discovered some new information that stated that methane dominant sibo cannot be cured with antibiotics as it is not caused by bacteria. 🤷🏻♂️ I tried to call Dr. Pimentel‘s office in California to try to get some assistance and ended up speaking with some rude lady who said that since I was not a resident of that state there was nothing they could do for me.🤦🏻♂️
Exactly under the ribs at left side? I too took metronidazole and having pain in this side
You should have done only Xifaxan. One of the antabiotics...maybe the one you took is PROVEN to cause tinnitus
@@tubeverse911 yes, it’s terrible!
So what causes the methane? And what herb should i take to get rid of the methane? And sorry to hear that i hope you get better.
@@culizocolonense sorry, I just saw your comment. I ended up going to a functional medicine doctor and she put me on an antimicrobial plan. I’m actually starting it tomorrow, I hope it works.
So I took the antibiotics for methane Sibo, and it destroyed my gut! What are you supposed to do after the antibiotics is my question. 🤷🏻♂️
Why on God's green earth would you give a cow seaweed. Jesus. Just feed them grass and stop giving them corn and chicken parts.
I do think you are missing the whole point here.
Red algae has been shown to reduce methane. As an additive to cow feed it has been highly effective. So, it could help many IBS-C sufferers.
@@nathanlowry3764 I get the point, I was just making another point. 😅
Absolutely. A ridiculous solution for a problem that doesn't exist.
My humble opinion is they should be growing hemp to feed cows. That has been shown to not ferment as much in their guts, and but most of all adding in the full spectrum of cannabis omegas, and other nutrients and health benefits that come from hemp. On top of being good for the cows, and in turn good for the people who ingest the cows and their milk. Growing hemp is also great for the environment and a fast growing low maintenance crop.
Seaweed is part of a cows natural diet. Animals often live near water. Seaweed grows in water. Cows historically ate seaweed.
I was in pain for 35 years every day before I finally had a thorough investigation and biopsy to find I am a coeliac, always just told IBS go take a pill that didn't work.
As I understand it, Akkermansia can consume the mucus layer instead of maintaining it, thereby destroying the gut. As Dr. Pimental said, "it's so complicated".
Very fascinating talk on a very complex subject. I developed IBS in the mid 90’s. I was advised to go high fibre which made the problem much worse. Mine was caused by a mixture of high stress and food intolerance. In the end I sent a blood sample to a private lab here in the UK. They found I had mild intolerance to Brazil nuts, egg white, and garlick, but my main intolerance was to yeast which was a 4+ reaction being the strongest reaction that they had seen at that time. I modified my diet. No other treatment. The GP just said keep taking the Imodium! Eventually Imodium also made things much worse.
Doctors can check for celiac but fail to understand that one can NOT have Celiac but be GLUTEN INTOLERANT, stopping ALL GRAINS usually solves the problems.
Did the diet modification help? I also have done a food intolerance test and it revealed wheat intolerance, but abstaining hasn't really helped.
@@Beajacks the diet modification helped but didn’t stop all of the problems. There are definite foods I have to stay clear of such as instant coffee, whereas filtered coffee is mostly fine. Unfortunately it really is self experimentation. Ideally do an exclusion diet and add back some foods gradually to check which one trigger you.
Food intolerances developed later in life is almost always the result of SIBO.
If u have problems with eggs than maybe onions too? Does eating french bread help ?
Start by differentiating between the stomach and the intestines
Dr Hyman -can you please talk about multivitamins - what combination of vitamins and minerals are safe to consume ? I’d love to hear your opinion on this. Thank you.
Just eat some liver. It has all the necessary vitamins in their natural and bioavailable form, fat and water soluble. Anything else is inferior because vitamins in pill form are made from petroleum.
If most people need to take a muti vitmin and don't we have a huge problem on our hands ,!
I tested positive for all 3 categories and can’t find any doctor that knows what sibo is or what kind of medication to take or the dosage.
Great conversation. Regarding methanogens (33 min), there is a proposed evolutionary advantage since these organisms are a sink for hydrogen (high levels inhibit fermentation) reducing levels and allowing hydrogen-producing bacteria to continue fermenting, converting more carbs into fats which nourish us. In a nutrient-rich environment (Western diet), we end up with pathological levels of methane. But in paleolithic times, this might have been a desirable attribute.
How would it have been desirable?
@@DeirdreB-fu1qb Surviving in a calorie-deficient environment due to the availability of more fat calories from short-chain fatty acids produced by bacteria able to continue fermenting after toxic levels of hydrogen are removed by Archaea.
