  • There are multiple sources that contribute to the level of histamine in your body (or your histamine pool), while there are 2 enzymes that help your body clear it. In this video, I talk about the things you can do short term to overcome histamine intolerance and how to get a long-term lasting solution, without depending on antihistamine medications.
Antihistamine medications are not recommended for long-term use. Watch minute 9:21 for details.

Spot on!! I've been asking my doctor for YEARS! -He hasn't a clue. But does he network with the other doctors in his group, consult the internet, or do some research? Can you say, "Hell NO!"
I get symptoms around that time of the month. (I'm sure you really wanted to know that.) I've asked and asked, "Why do my "allergies" go nuts before my period? Dr. Know-Nothing: "I can't really explain it." (In other words, "I haven't got a friggin' clue!") One day, I notice "Chlorpheniramine" (an antihistamine), as one of the ingredients in my "Menstrual Relief Tablets." So, I ask my doctor, "Why do these contain chlorpheniramine?" Dr: Know Nothing, "Because as your hormones shift around "that time", a lot of women become more sensitive to histamine."
      * PS: Everything I know about histamine intolerance, I've learned by researching it myself. -You're so right about having to take our own responsibility.

After 4 1/2 years of strict carnivore, drinking coffee daily, and an extremely stressful event, I now have histamine intolerance for the first time in my life. Oh-and I overdid fermented foods in an attempt to improve my gut bacteria. What a mistake. If I don’t take a Benadryl at night I don’t sleep, that’s when I’m the itchiest. It’s insane. But I will try to not take it. Thank you for explaining what antihistamines do. And people-stop drinking that poisonous drug, coffee!! It ruins your gut!! (Decaf too)
UPDATE: After doing GAPS intro diet for 5 weeks my leaky gut healed and my itching improved but I still was not having good BMs. I was able to stop taking Benadryl but still had to take quercetin. Then I discovered Karen Hurd’s bean protocol and it has been a miracle. It got my bowels moving in ONE DAY and after 4 weeks of consistent, multiple daily bowel movements my histamine and itching is GONE, hallelujah thank You Jesus! I now eat fermented food with every meal and NO REACTION. Did I have gas? Yes, for one day. And really bad gas too. But it subsided, and my whole digestive system felt better than it had in years. My GERD went away. My bloat went away. My transit time for digestion went up (it was so slow before) so no more gastroparesis. I will never stop eating beans again. The protocol is 1/2 a cup 3x a day. Easy. God’s foods heal-not drugs, not supplements. Try it. What do you have to lose? PS I also don’t use the drug caffeine anymore either. 🙂

I have been taking antihistamine every day for the past few years and noticed that my histamine intolerance has just been increasing. I seem to react to everything. And now I’m glad to know why my histamine intolerance has increased so much. Unfortunately regular doctors don’t ever think along these lines. I’ve been advised by allergists to just keep using the antihistamines and nose sprays. No one has ever connected my allergies to my IBS. So thank you for your insight.

100% connection between histamine and gut issues. There are several things that raise histamine of course but I’m not surprised to hear that people feel worse with IBS flare up. antihistamines are NOT supposed to be used as longterm solution and it’s unfortunate how many people still don’t know that. Rule for leftovers; one day - that’s it. Kind of sucks, but totally worth it. Careful of buying food that sits in the fridge for weeks before eating. Buy for the next 2/3 days. Healthier to do this versus getting histamine overdose from aged foods. Also , think about how much perishable food you have to throw out on a monthly basis. Thank you so much for your wonderful video. I think I now understand why I’ve developed histamine intolerance. I’ve had chronic UTIs for years and have been in a myriad of antibiotics. The longest I’ve gone without them is 5 months. I was heartbroken when I developed another UTI a few weeks ago. I’ve been on the diet since October and it has helped but I’d love to eat some of the high histamine foods again. Seems like I’m not going to be able to overcome the histamine problem until the UTI infections end but there seems to be no solution to that. Very discouraged!!

    • @jacekpalka55
      @jacekpalka55 7 месяцев назад

Try D Mannose for the UTI - I went through same thing yrs ago for 2 yrs having kidney infections taking useless antibiotics which I would never normally take - that’s actually when I started to get diagnosed w fibromyalgia and low or no DAO…. Anyway the allopathic route was to take antibiotics prophylactically which I refused and researched that d mannose was more effective - bought a mountain load expecting to have to take daily but actually never had another kidney infection! First sense of something take d mannose and it’s gone - but it’s cheap and big pharma can’t make money off larch sugar! Good luck, never get disheartened - get curious - there’s solutions always -often not through trad medicine though

I found taking DAO was better than the antihistamines when taken with Quercetin, vit C plus Zinc, and b vitamins and magnesium. I do take ketotifen at night as it stops the racing thoughts, and headaches. Half a tablet means I sleep a bit better. I now use very moderate amounts of fermented food every other day, or so. Persistent use of antihistamines suppresses the guts' production of hydrochloric acid, which is the last thing you want for gut health. Food not well broken down leads to dismotility, inflammation, and possible leaky gut syndrome. Then, when you stop taking the antihistamines, the gut ramps up the hydrochloric acid again which generally leads to overproduction and dyspepsia, i.e; heartburn.

@@sagartripti I'm sure NonyaSmith and others here could teach me several things, but I've been using a small amount of liquid diphenhydramine (less than a pediatric dose) to temporarily increase control of chest and respiratory symptoms, and for topical reduction of throat symptoms, sometimes a few times a day. Thankfully I have "good days" when I don't use any at all. I sure didn't get there overnight, for better or worse. I often balance this with some challenges of my ability to tolerate histamine liberating compounds such as (extremely low dose, e.g. {unsweetened} USA tonic water) quinine. It doesn't hit me as hard as a large (e.g. pure-ish) chocolate bar or large can of beans -- canned beans are rough with me, sprouted are much much more tolerable. (I'm searching for comments I've left today because I'm trying to reply to a notification I clicked away from in a drop-down menu, and there are so many new comments now!)
Expert advice should be more available and accessible. I think patient support communities are essential, in part because the studies we eventually hear about often study US! ... so I should mention that YRMV, and good luck.
I've also heard that antihistamines, certainly including benadryl (which is in my words "thorough," in that it "crosses the blood-brain barrier," as I've heard it explained), can block HMNT, which is of course the intracellular counterpart of diamine oxidase, our histamine enzymes (AFAIK, and my education on these topics is notably informal, but this may have been covered in the video we're commenting on). And of course, blocking HMNT is not ideal for resolving HIT symptoms.

I recently asked my allergy/asthma doctor why I've been on 2 rounds of allergy shots and on so much medication and still struggling. I showed her pictures of swollen eyes and rashes I get. I've done all the things I'm 12:42 supposed to do to make my home as allergy free as possible but until I take a zyrtec every morning I'm a mess. She tested for histamines and they were very high. She wanted to do a patch test but she's over an hour away from me and I have to go there 3 times in a week. Since retirement this year I'm not around mold that was a biggie for me and I'm doing better. A few months ago I was having a loud beating in my left ear. I had complained that my nose on the left side always felt like there was something stuffed in there and that in the morning I'd notice there was something that looked like something very swollen. The pounding was getting worse so I went to another doctor who put me on 2 different nose sprays and the pounding went away within 2 days. Also found that with stomach problems all my life the solution was to stop using mint toothpaste. I use cinnamon toothpaste and no more stomach issues after 30 some years.

Fear and trauma is a huge root of allergy responses. We know that fear affects the gut and our ability to digest. We get stuck in fight or flight mode.
I used to think it was gluten and dairy causing issues for me. I cut it out for years. I have a video on my old channel with over 115k views talking about that. It helped some symptoms. But I hadn't looked at all the difficulties I had been through and the fear.
If we get healing from fear we can get physical healing. I believe true healing and freedom from fear comes from trusting God. Now I can eat anything. If I start to have allergic symptoms often it is because I am fearful or anxious and stressed in some area of my life. I work to control my thoughts l, pray and put my trust in God. Mention a disease. Any disease/chronic condition. They probably can name at least 3 pills for it, but NOT an actual remedy!

But she can't have non-stick cook ware, as the off-gassing kills the canaries. Then I got to thinking: If a little tiny canary's lungs fail due to this, what is it doing to MY lungs? I've been off the non-stick cookware, and the inhaler for more than 10 years now. And no more raspy voice. Very very seldom an asthma attack. And back when I used the regular inhaler, I could only get to 325 on the spirometer. Now I do better than 750 regularly!

I wondered if I was histamine intolerant years ago and focused on reducing proteins that were aged, fermented foods, and being careful of when I ate histamine releasing foods.
I believe I have had SIBO for a long time. The western medical system won't test me for SIBO but gave me drugs for it when they didn't know for sure if I had it. I fired the Gastroenterologist for continuously gate keeping the functional testing I needed.
I did my own research and although meat has the potential for having lots of histamines I have had no real histamine issues since going off plants and carbs. I believe that I have begun to heal the SIBO among other things since 4 months on the Carnivore diet. I will do this elimination diet for at least 6 months to get rid of SIBO, lose excess weight, and get rid of the painful oxalates in my joints. Then I will try to add back low histamine/low oxalate foods to see if they bring symptoms back. I will stay away from grains and sugars for good. My body cannot handle those at all.

The bedroom wooden furniture, board surfaces and cardboard boxes have mold on them. How to get rid of all these molds? I also didn"t know about the candida and parasites and virus enablers. Never heard of DAO. I did not know about the anti-histamines not being such a great idea. I"ve been taking the pills for the itchy bites which take months to heal and then leave black marks on my skin. Didn"t know the connection between the itching and hives and headaches. They bandaid it with Apoquel or Cytopoint which shortens their life. No dog should be without a holistic vet and get off all dry dog food and onto fresh and raw diet. There are low histamine diets for dogs, too. Dry kibble will destroy their health. Yes, sprouts, nettle works for dogs, too. Awesome video.

Much needed info. I have lots of problems with my 7 year old daughter. She's constantly ill with all kind of illnesses. Last summer she developed a huge alergic reaction to simple mosquito bites which was difficult to heal and took long time and left nasty black scars on skin after. I was fearing to let her go outside ir on school trips. Her blood showed a 1750 Img, so called allergic background of the body. It should be 0 to 6 only. Doctor gave antiparasite tablet, that's it. Doctors these days don't explain any root causes to patients anymore and I always want to know so I can understand what to do and how to treat. Therefore info on RUclips is vital these days. And yes, my daughter has constant disbiosis and gut problems, lots of fear and anxiety and stress. And when she was a baby she had tremendous sleep problems. Your beloved daughter’s problems are almost certainly caused by mandated injections, and the only way to help her is to stop all of them and go to a homeopath to antidote the ones that she has had, of course, along with the advice in this video, I find that diatomaceous earth Food grade is the best possible thing for cleaning out parasites and keeping the gut clean, start with a quarter of a plastic teaspoon and a large glass of water and slowly increase, on an empty stomach. I have taken it for 10 years with my pets, and it just kept me clear of The recurrent cancer I suffered from.
Also a great thing to repair the gut lining is the herb marshmallow root which you can buy in a liquid tincture and drink in water. You need 30 drops three times a day for six months, but it will repair all the gut and bladder lining!
I am not medically qualified, but all this has worked for me at the age of 76, and drug free for decades !
You are obviously a really lovely mother and your daughter is so blessed to have you 🎉 Namaste 🙏

Hi Nour Zibdeh: Thank you for this video. I am contacting you on behalf of my wife (73 year old Filipina) otherwise in good health except for recently-acquired Histamine Intolerance. Her diet for life has basically been vegetables, rice, with occasional shrimp or pork (common in the Philippines). When we eat out, sometimes we get spicy Indian food, which we love. We vacation regularly in Hawaii, and recently in Mexico to get some more sunshine. We live in Vancouver BC Canada and are thus starved of sunshine. We take supplements like Vitamin C, D, E, A, B-Complex and other good supplements like zinc, turmeric, kelp, etc. Occasionally during the spring-time, she may get 1 week of hay fever from the pollen in the air, which goes away quickly with diphenhydramine hydrochloride tablets for a few days. With our most recent vacation to Mexico, something must have happened, but we have not been able to figure it out. The all-inclusive resort had good food and clean water, from which we had no immediate symptoms. However, 5 days after being back in Vancouver in early August 2023, we sat in the sunshine for 15 minutes on the outside deck. After going inside and a couple of minutes later, she broke out in Hives that apparently were triggered by the sunshine. I was not affected. She has nice brown skin and has lived half of her life in the Philippines and half in Vancouver. We did further tests and determined that UVB would always trigger the same histamine response and hives. We have cut out different foods searching for the root cause, and cannot find a correlation between any particular food and the histamine-related hives. She is now taking histDAO supplements but they have not fixed the problem. I am thinking that she may have acquired some gut bacteria from the pork in Mexico, which is a good reason to avoid pork as I do. We want to fix this and get back to the way she was before our Mexico vacation. The other possibility is some reaction from the Mesenchymal Stem Cell treatment that she received from a clinic in Mexico, but this was her second treatment for her knee joints. Her first Stem Cell treatment from the same clinic was one year ago, and there were no problems at all. I don't think that her problem is diet related, except that something we did in Mexico has created this histamine intolerance, like a gut bacteria. I am an Engineer, so I am driven to find and fix the root cause directly and not simply cover up the condition. Do you think you can help and if so, how do we proceed? Please contact me at GarryAnderson@shaw.ca so we can work together. Thank you.

Hi ... sorry to hear that. I think it's difficult to guess what it is without proper testing. The immune system may have gone haywire due to parasite or other microbes (virus, bacteria, etc), or exposure to environmental toxins. The sun and heat can trigger histamine. Gut microbiome imbalances interfere with histamine clearance. Often, you have to address multiple things at the same time to truly notice an improvement. The body is extremely complex and there is an intricate balance which is maintained by your body. When you take one supplement, it causes depletion of a different one and side effects follow. You should not take any supplements and eat the actual food which is rich in those nutrients. Alternatively you can take beef liver/organ pills if you can't eat the actual organs. But don't take supplements. I am talking from experience. You will end up with nasty side effects which won't show up right away. It will take months or years to affect your health negatively. For tens of thousands of years humans took no supplements or isolated vitamins. They ate the actual food which contained those vitamins. The supplement industry wants you to believe that you can take a short cut and just take a few vitamins with no long term side effects. Their goal is to make money. They don't care about your health. Another thing that will help you recover quickly is intermittent fasting which has been done for thousands of years by various cultures. It is extremely beneficial for your health. It can clear up many health issues with zero cost.

@@TheManGrant yall should try prolonged fasting. Look up autophagy, its bad ass. I accidentally stumbled on it because I did a prolonged dry fast for spiritual renewal, lost a lot of muscle the first 2 times I did a 3 day dry fast, but by the 3rd and 4th time, sth UNUSUAL was going on in my body. Lets just say my body hit a new rock bottom and began to heal itself. I have typed lengthy pages explaining this to people but I'll advise you to look it up. Now I fast for prolonged periods- no food, no water, no shower, no brush and no contact with water. Usually for me after the 3rd day, everything seems broken off and broken down, I did 4 days once, hard dry fast, by the end of day 4 everything in my mouth felt dead. When I brushed, I believe I saw stuff like plaques coming off, my oral health has never been so good. Belly pouch gone, muscles more resilient, a little weight lifting gives me results of someone whos been in the gym for months, I lose fat but retain muscles, hormones balanced themselves out, hair growing suddenly, I can go on and on. The reset I got from the last 2 prolonged fasts have made me want to eat better. Autophagy is a real reset. Also as someone else mentioned, please for your own sake THROW OUT THE SUPPLEMENTS. Before you actually find a really good one, chances are you've suffocated yourself with more poison. Its just a revolving door and problems are released much later to create confusion and make you blame the wrong things. The industries behind these things dont give a rats ass about your health. Look into fasting first, chances are that reset will clear out an unbelievable percentage of that sudden reaction. Also if you're Christian, don't forget to call Jesus to help you. You don't lose nothing by praying, worst case scenario, He doesn't answer. And it takes nothing from you. But if He answers, ohhh booyyy, you're about to get brand new organs. ❤❤

thank you sister for this informative video! I am one of those people with histamine and mold issues, crazy sensitives, autoimmune, deficient, and mast cell. Have you had clients who flare up with crazy symptoms with supplements at first, and then start healing if they keep going? It seems to be the case for me for lots of things (especially vitamins), because it starts to reverse the process of illness and goes backward into healing. So for some things, i had to fight through the worst to get to being better. And i met lots of people on the same boat. But most people quit a supplement when they try it at first and get bad reactions…so they just continue avoiding it, not knowing that it’s a sign they started healing and could’ve continued. Reactions like hives though are not one of the good ones. 😅

And histamine etc. symptomology can be different because of amplification of the effects of things like vasodilation or sympathetic nervous system dominance that happen to come with POTS. - Anyone out there with HI should see if they have hypermobility of any type. Do you have long fingers relative to your height and palm area, long thin limbs, thin wrists of which you might be able to touch your pinky to your thumb or even cover the nail of the pinky, tall height, can pull your fingers back behind 90º backwards or close to that, cracking joints, soreness especially at joints and ligaments and tendons, stiff muscles, loose joints, etc.

This is me as well (h-eds, MCAS/HI, DAO def, MTHFR gene, etc.). I have spent years trying to get doctors to listen to me. Done all the test. None wanted to believe me. I have had to become my own doctor. The big thing about all of this is that we can treat most of it ourselves. I am so glad for that because if I had to rely on a doctor to help me....well, I don't want to imagine. I take methylated B12 and Methylfolate, 1000mg of Vit C, copper, zinc, magnesium,etc... all the things she mentioned in her video. I am also about two months in of taking S. Bouldarii. I have upped my fiber and am going to start working on some resistant starches. There is more, but I don't want to write a novel. I also try to practice the 5 pillars of heal. There is no cure for some of the things we have, but I am doing my best to try and live my best. Especailly after C o Vi D.

@@mumsthwd C, D3 etc. seem to be very underrated. Another that my dietitian has put on the same level as C and D3 is Omega 3. Canola oil is good tho many with HI area already using it - but just taking the supplements can be a good way to go. Takes a couple/few months to kick in I think. Methylated B12is super good too, even for those that don't know if they have the malabsorption(no methylation). B complex might be good too, as B5 and B6 (maybe B1 as well) are involved in the DAO pathways but I don't know how that fits into a DAO def. context. Iron too--many EDS are deficient in it and it's essential for many processes including, importantly, oxygen transport (oxygen transport I suspect is probably involved in fatigue/brain fog etc.) due to lack of blood - and so, oxygen - to the brain. Not sure tho. Keep up the good work👍

@@mumsthwd I'd read that novel. Good call on prebiotics, I'm looking into sprouting everything I can and especially legumes. Thymoquinone (like from nigella sativa, black caraway) is an alternative to quercetin, not that anyone asked. I'm getting copper from oysters and using zinc gluconate powder since I react poorly to many supplements (and still can't tolerate alfalfa or Brazil nuts). Lots of greens and fibers.
Two years ago, NaturDAO got me "out of the forest" along with all the other stuff, now I can plan in chocolate, quinine, a little mustard, lots of useful stuff. I use a little liquid diphenhydramine, and substantial amounts of turmeric, ginger, and more. I'd call my progress good, considering I had unknown celiac disease for a couple decades, a couple decades ago.

That is some neat-o info. See, they don't teach you that. The only thing they really teach about Ehler's Danlos Syndrome is the stretchy skin bit, and they hyper flexibility of the joints.

Great video! You confirmed that I need to speak up about my runny nose when I eat when I see my doctor again. After experiencing physical induced hives all my life, and getting hives from cold 10 years ago (like my feet would get frostbite feeling on a cold floor) and dermatographia, a rheumatologist told me to plan to take zyrtec the rest of my life. I am now getting tested for celiac disease/sensitivity and my doctor has me on a mast cell activation drug called ketotifen. No doctor has talked to me about histamines so far, but the ketotifen does seem to be helping with the hives at least. I have an energy drink habit, though. . . so maybe it's time to finally ditch them.
