I remember seeing a lot of concept art and some of the unaired footage for the show. It looked absolutely fantastic and is probably the best Star Wars show that we never got. The Taliban inspiration for Saw Gerrera was interesting, from what I’ve read he was originally named “Castro” and based on the Cuban Revolutionary. Anyway, Star Wars “What Could Have Been” are some of my favorite of your videos and I was wondering, is there any concepts or plots about how George Lucas would’ve written a Flash Gordon movie like he wanted to before creating Star Wars?
From what I remember, it was only ever a concept of an idea and he never got around to doing treatments or outlines or scripts or anything. He didn't do too much before inquiring about the rights and not getting them
I don't think Lucas deserves most of the hate he gets. It seems like after the prequels, everyone just focused on his failures rather than his achievements. Say what you will about the man, but he was a visionary first and foremost. The fact he came up with the idea of a live-action Star Wars show 15 years before one was eventually made should be enough to tell you he was ahead of his time. Thanks for making the video. Love the concept art clips.

Lucas made social commentaries within the context of Star Wars. Disney bought Star Wars to build (feeble) stories around social agendas. It’s probably never going to change, even if they someday sell the IP. And to whom, Amazon? Apple? Yeah, ‘frying pan, fire, Yoda Yoda.’
My head canon is that Underworld and the 2008 TCW animated show would have not only filled in the gaps between the movies but also probably would have set up for George Lucas's sequel trilogy after Return of the Jedi, that would have shown the criminal underworld between 3 and 4 and would have set the stage for these criminal elements to fill in the power vacuum left by the defeat of the Empire in Lucas's sequels. Lucas wanted Maul as the sequel trilogy's version of Palpatine and had he not sold Lucasfilm to Disney, Maul would have been explained as coming back during the Clone Wars and building his power base using the criminal underworld in order to take over the galaxy once the Empire was defeated by the New Republic.

So much amazing worldbuilding. Never realized how much of Clone Wars was meant to be foreshadowing for Underworld. Wish this and 1313 saw the light of day
The Palpatine back story sounds a bit like just "Some woman wronged me" so I'm not terribly sure I'd be that sympathetic 😂. Everything else actually sounds great! We're all wishing now that Lucas still had more control over the franchise, since Disney has done a pretty mediocre job taking over it. ❤ I'm glad they gave used some if these ideas, but wish Lucas would have had more input the entire time. I don't hate all that Disney has done, but it's been such an unguided mess.
I remember being so stoked for that game. I thought the show was going to be silly but now that I hear about this in full detail I'm so sad that it never happened it sounded great
Definitely reinforces the head canon that Han Solo's real name is Rick Deckard and that the Tyrell corporation of the SW universe is still making small-scale clones called "Replicants"
Not using any Star Wars music would have been a mistake. I still believe a big reason why the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles failed (despite being a good show) was because they didn't used the John Williams Indy Theme to emotionally plug in the audience.
The one thing I disagree with for Underworld was giving Palpatine a bitchy girlfriend and making him more sympathetic. To me, it would've taken away from the villainy of the Emperor and wouldn't have made sense in the long run. Hopefully, they would've taken that out had the series entered production. Another problem I have with Underworld is that it sounded like it would've re-conned most of the original expanded universe, which had plenty of stories that filled the gap between episodes 3 and 4. If they made it that there was gonna be new stories that didn't interfere with the EU, then that would've been fine, but I'm not sure that that was the plan. Still, I would've been curious enough to give the series a chance, because while Lucas was aiming for a much darker approach, at least he still knew how Star Wars is supposed to feel and would've been loyal to the aesthetics he created, while also adding to it (unlike Andor, which completely ignores Lucas' aesthetics and felt more like a Galactica rip-off).
@@rubbain9370 I think it has most of the same problems as the other Disney Star Wars series'. Also, Tony Gilroy has stated that he never really liked Star Wars and wanted to make his show for a more "resistant audience."
@@tyrannozilla yea I heard he said that. I find it funny how smn that is not into the franchise so much seemed to give better care with the source material than other recent media. I found it really mature and had its own identity

*What Could've Been: Bill Peet's Original Storyline for Walt Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK* SUMMARY: Written with little supervision, Bill Peet (who wrote the story for Disney's *"101 Dalmatians"* and *"Sword in the* *Stone")* wrote his original treatment to *"The Jungle Book"* while preserving the ominous tone of Rudyard Kipling's novel, but also made it linear and adding more suspense. It is also here that the two animal characters: Baloo & Bagheera had their personalities from the novel switched into the versions we see in Disney's animated film, with Baloo now the "big, playful buffoon of a bear" and Bagheera now the serious -minded mentor. The treatment opens with Mowgli being rescued by Bagheera & the Wolves from falling from a waterfall. Mowgli's journey from the jungle to the Man-Village would have been the film's central storyline. King Louie (an original character created by Peet), the leader of Bandar-log, kidnaps Mowgli and would to get him to teach them how to make fire ("the red flower") and to rebuild the ancient city. King Louie would also show him the treasure under the ruins (this was a plot element borrowed from Kipling's *"The Second Jungle Book").* At the Man-Village, Mowgli gets into an argument with the local hunter Buldeo, which caused him to go back to the jungle with a torch and he use it to scare those who attacked or mocked him during his journey and confront Shere Khan. He is then captured by Buldeo who drags him to the ancient city in search for the hidden treasure. After taking some of the treasure, Buldeo attempts to burn the jungle to avoid the threat of Shere Khan, only for Shere Khan to attack & kill Buldeo, before he is then killed by Mowgli with Buldeo's rifle. The story ends with Mowgli now hailed as a hero in both the jungle and the Man-Village and he is declared the first human member of the Wolves' council.

It was far to expensive even back in 2010 George had the rights today he probably would have make it that footage was something.
I really wish they would publish these scripts. They won't because im sure they pull aspects out for other projects.
So much amazing worldbuilding. Never realized how much of Clone Wars was meant to be foreshadowing for Underworld. Wish this and 1313 saw the light of day
It hurts a little to know how much cool stuff we would ve got out of this.
Dear Disney.... This *is* the Star Wars show we're looking for....
LF doesn't want to open the cheque book.
So many projects died because he sold Star Wars to Disney….😢😭
He was literally too ahead of the curve, great breakdown!
100% and thanks
This sounds awesome. Way better than what we got.
WoW! A lot of concepts got resued in Clone Wars and Rebels.
I want Star Wars Underworld.
Still better than Acolyte
These kinds of what-could-have-been videos are always bitter-sweet. It's cool to learn and think about it but sad to realise it will never happen.
I remember being so stoked for that game. I thought the show was going to be silly but now that I hear about this in full detail I'm so sad that it never happened it sounded great
Underworld sounds cool but The Mandalorian is awesome!
Yeah but Mando S1and 2 r the only good seasons , 3 is hot garbage
I think the idea would have been amazing if it was on hbo or fx .
This show sounded awesome it would've been awesome to Han Solo because he doesn't appear much in any of the Star Wars shows.
Might nor happen but would be cool tk see something like underworld after Andor is done. Since we saw Coruscant in the show.
I’ve been waiting for this
Damn u made this show sound a lot better than things I've heard about it in the past ... now I REALLY wish they went forward with it 😂
JUST Imagine, Lucasfilm in association with NETFLIX.
Leave it to George Lucas to come up with the greatest product placement EVER: Han works for Jamba Juice.
Wish to get a deep dive on unmade Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc Sequel
Still, I would've been curious enough to give the series a chance, because while Lucas was aiming for a much darker approach, at least he still knew how Star Wars is supposed to feel and would've been loyal to the aesthetics he created, while also adding to it (unlike Andor, which completely ignores Lucas' aesthetics and felt more like a Galactica rip-off).
ironically Andor is the best recent star wars projects we have had
@@rubbain9370 I think it has most of the same problems as the other Disney Star Wars series'. Also, Tony Gilroy has stated that he never really liked Star Wars and wanted to make his show for a more "resistant audience."
@@tyrannozilla yea I heard he said that. I find it funny how smn that is not into the franchise so much seemed to give better care with the source material than other recent media. I found it really mature and had its own identity
@@rubbain9370 I still disagree, but you like what you like.
It's always going to hurt that Star Wars 1313 was cancelled.
Even though Star Wars Underworld and 1313 never happened, their legacy still lives on.
The Palpatine sympathetic backstory would have killed it for me. I hate that almost every villain has to be given an excuse for being a villain. Can’t except that evil is just evil.
ngl making palpatine sympathetic would be really dumb
*What Could've Been: Bill Peet's Original Storyline for Walt Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK*
SUMMARY:
Written with little supervision, Bill Peet
(who wrote the story for Disney's
*"101 Dalmatians"* and *"Sword in the*
*Stone")* wrote his original treatment
to *"The Jungle Book"* while preserving
the ominous tone of Rudyard Kipling's
novel, but also made it linear and adding more suspense.
It is also here that the two animal
characters: Baloo & Bagheera had
their personalities from the novel
switched into the versions we see
in Disney's animated film, with Baloo
now the "big, playful buffoon of a
bear" and Bagheera now the serious
-minded mentor.
The treatment opens with Mowgli
being rescued by Bagheera & the
Wolves from falling from a waterfall.
Mowgli's journey from the jungle
to the Man-Village would have been
the film's central storyline.
King Louie (an original character
created by Peet), the leader of
Bandar-log, kidnaps Mowgli and
would to get him to teach them
how to make fire ("the red flower")
and to rebuild the ancient city.
King Louie would also show him the
treasure under the ruins (this was a
plot element borrowed from Kipling's
*"The Second Jungle Book").*
At the Man-Village, Mowgli gets into
an argument with the local hunter
Buldeo, which caused him to go back
to the jungle with a torch and he
use it to scare those who attacked or
mocked him during his journey
and confront Shere Khan. He is then
captured by Buldeo who drags him
to the ancient city in search for the
hidden treasure. After taking some
of the treasure, Buldeo attempts to
burn the jungle to avoid the threat
of Shere Khan, only for Shere Khan
to attack & kill Buldeo, before he is
then killed by Mowgli with Buldeo's rifle.
The story ends with Mowgli now hailed as a hero in both the jungle and the Man-Village and he is declared the first human member of the Wolves' council.
Do what could have been transformer 6 rise of Unicron
Say what?
Yup, that’s right after Transformers the last knight Michael Bay had a plan to make a six transformers movie however the film was ultimately canceled due to the reception and flop of the last night
The sale to Disney was one of the greatest mistakes in entertainment history.
Star Wars fans realizing all too late with Disney that the grass isn’t always greener :(
No mention of Quinlan Vos who was going to be a main character and the only jedi. George asked Dark Horse to write his order 66 survival story because he wanted to use him in the future.
So by the looks of it, pretty much everything Star Wars related that came out the last 15-20 years that's even remotely decent has a lot to owe to this overly ambitious project, huh.
It's like Star Wars' very own version of Jodorowsky's Dune.
Yup! Well said
