Thank you for showing your video from 2 years ago. I call it "barking"! We civilians learn facts daily from your serving and retired subscribers. Wonderful.😊
Yes, the Officer is SHOUTING the word of command which the soldiers are well used to and fully expect. They are not being shouted at because of some misdemeanour, as the video title suggests - I was fully expecting the officer to be shouting at a soldier for some shortcoming in his standard of turnout. The video should be re-titled, ‘Officer shouts word of command’.
For a long time, before radios were invented, troop formations were controlled by verbal commands. Battlefields are noisy and chaotic, and soldiers can be spread out over large areas. Being able to bellow very, very loud but still coherent commands at people is a traditional skill that is still appreciated in the British military.
If you go back in time, armies had the regimental band on the battle field. The general would distribute his battle orders through the band. After the battle, the bandsmen would scour the battlefield looking for survivors, sort of like first responders.

Very professional performance. The officer gives clear instructions in a voice that can be heard clearly at some distance, above the noise of battle, and when he inspected the guards, he clearly was actually inspecting for real and could be seen giving feedback to the guard commander, and to individual guards, in a quiet voice that is barely picked up by the microphone. I watched a group of soldiers while the Queens funeral was on ( not these chaps ) and their arms were all over the place! It was literally a free for all. And then I watched a programme from 1940, and as a young Princess she inspected 3 lines of troops, I think she was with her father, and there must have been at least 100 soldiers in each line, in combat gear, either returning from duty or on their way, and I think they presented arms or something similar, there was 4 or 5 separate movements, it was over in literally a second, and not one was out of sync. It was quite something to watch
As a soldier of the 1960s, I watch events such as this, HM Queen Elizabeth's funeral etc and invariably wind up shaking my head, thinking how the drill has become dismal. Any movements involving shaking your legs about (right & left turns, halt etc) were always carried out with the thigh parallel to the ground and the lower leg absolutely perpendicular to the ground. Modern drill seems to have degenerated into what we used to call "cow kicks"! Of course, we never expected any better from officers and this Captain was just like those of my day. Oh! And officers can not salute to save their bloody lives!
It makes me so proud to be English when watching these. The troopers, NCO and Officer are All so so smart. No one does this as well as the British Armed Forces. Thank you
I enjoyed it, and respect the ancient tradition it preserves. But the actual inspection was less precise than what the US Old Guard does at Arlington, where every detail of the sentry’s appearance is scrutinized meticulously, from the level of his cap to the back of his shoes. But maybe there is a British Tomb of Unknowns where they do something similar to that. I hope to visit England next year, looking forward to seeing these presentations in person!
Your right. To any other army in the world that's shouting. To the British army it's a mere whisper. If that officer was really angry...stand well back and cover your ears. Sergeant Majors are the best and are highly skilled at shouting.
He really has to trust the horses with his life to walk behind them like that.I have seen people knocked directly into the hospital for walking the exact same path.
To be honest, these horses to be in a loud city full of noises plus the shouts of people and the issuing of commands from officers to soldiers being all daily for them. I wouldn’t think these horses would act any crazy for any kind of loud sound.
Even horses not as well trained as these ones won't kick you if you don't act like a complete idiot. The trick is to let them know you are there so as to not startle them. The best way to do that is by walking really close to their behind and preferably touching them with your hand as you cross. Cav horses could probably handle way worse before breaking.

Impeccable.
Makes me proud to be British and have served my country.
Did you kill any goat farmers or did you stick to women and children?
Mainly in brothels son.
It's nice to watch these things. It will never grow old history. It brightens he whole world.
Officer doesn't shout at the guards but rather gives orders.
@Steve Gooden no it's not a show. Tourist are just allowed to see a glimpse in the life of a Royal Guard. The British shout their orders out differently from other military forces.
And gives his orders in a very clear but loud voice.
Click bait😤
@Steve Gooden 🤦♀️🤡🥴
@Steve Gooden yeah sure.
Absolutely bloody marvellous! Rule Britannia 🇬🇧
The real backbone of The United Kingdom. We truly are Blessed to have our Dedicated Royal Military Forces. 🙏🌎🇬🇧
The very essence of a Cavalry officer.

Funny
Good to see the officer talking to the horse these lads and lady’s do a great job.
It’s a change to hear the King’s Guard.
That’s right! Haha how are you doing?
Now thats an officer and a gentleman! Bravo
Well done the boys...keel up the good and hard work fellas.
That officer has some voice, no mistaking his commands.
Magnificent, the soldiers as well
I love that the swords greet each other ☺️
Its amazing how GB was able to maintain this oldest tradition they have throughout their history during the medieval times how precious this ceremony is being done until now at this age of modernity. I cant imagine how people feel those times and now..
The funny thing is that this ceremony is relatively new - just a bit over a century. Look up the Ceremony of the Keys - I think you’ll enjoy it.
Forget the voice, that man's stach is what really commands authority.
C est toujours impressionnant de voir les protocoles de tous ces gardes ..mérite à eux et vive le roi!
Probably the most disciplined Soldiers in the world!!!!
Hardly soldiers. More like actors.
@@savethebill2740 Precision choreography ~ so they'll also be dancers too albeit engaged in a kind of slow dance.
Beautiful uniforms , beautiful atmosphere and beautiful architecture .. ❤
@@Alan_Berger Thanks for the free English lesson 🩶
I can't imagine how the guards can stand perfectly still for that long
0:28 scary guys
Cute lil one
nice outfits 😂
Excellent inspection!
But he would be a target if we went to any action?
Those boots:
When you have the Kings Guard Inspection at 4pm and the catwalk at 4:30pm.
Ahhh the good ole inspection! He's just using his command voice. The officer actually appears quite friendly, you can see him smiling while inspecting and talking to the soldiers. Annnnd pointing out demerits on a couple uniforms to the NCO..lol
I don’t think the Officer is Shouting at Them I may think the Officer is Just Commanding them what to do also I may think this is a Inspection
Yeah i tought the officer scream at the guards directly
agreed
The officer is being very enthusiastic in his giving of orders and his inspection which makes me think that he has been commissioned from the ranks.
@@TownsvilleRoleplayOfficial /That's not screaming! The officer is giving a command. Did you ever had drills when you were in high school? I did. I grew up from the Philippines.
@@peterbrown1012 He’s certainly enough to frighten the horses! Imagine doing all that in public!
Right at the end we see who really has the power.
2:53 "You are a very long man"
Wise words.
He’s not shouting he is making a command! That’s quite normal❤
4:25 "Retaaard, swords!"
