The biggest compliment you can give for those guys, is to let them do their jobs in peace without making stupid comments, trying to make them laugh or disturbing them in any way.
They are not some silly-looking puppets that are there for your amusement. They're professional soldiers who have been in real combat situations. It's very serious business and not all of them make it.
Respect for Grenadier Guards from Finland

Thank you mate: all are Infantry soldiers, none are 'Ceremonial' and many of whom may be back from the Middle East.
On the other hand, I'm sure whilst on Ceremonial duties many might enjoy the attentions of the women, but are not allowed to speak, no matter how much they may want to. :)

Ok I'm an American veteran, a proud member of the Cavalry branch. I served a million years ago, when dinosaurs and Cold Warriors proudly walked the Earth.
I've always had the greatest respect for the British Army, but let me share a small thing.
On the morning after September 11th 2001, I, like my whole nation, was in a state of severe shock. We were angry, grieving, and as a combat veteran I was deeply concerned for our troops who would soon be going into harm's way against an enemy that wasn't even a nation-state.
But that morning, for the first time in my memory [and I'm a military historian], band of the Guards Brigade played 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham. I am not a particularly demonstrative man, but I literally cried. The simple gesture of respect was a very moving moment for me. And I'm not the only one. I live near a major military base and our region has one of the highest veteran populations in the country. ALL of my fellow has-beens felt the same way.
If it means anything at all, please accept the respects and regards of an old cavalry corporal.

It's just surreal knowing all these things behind the scene. The training. The honour. The duty. The responsibility. It's more than becoming a guard. I feel closer to the royal family just by watching them here in the small screen of my phone. Now, watching this documentary and seeing a zoomed view of the palace, it made me realized how important the royal family is especially the Queen with all her Guards. It's a reality that they are not that easily accessible or a just a sight to see. And you're just one of those million tourists who peep by the gate or stand outside the gate. Seeing the Queen's Guard should be considered as privileged. How much more if you see the Royal Family themselves. My utmost respect to them! Salute.

As a person who grew up in America all my life, I do have roots to some royalty in England back before the American Revolution. Of course they were half sisters/brothers, etc, but regardless, the Queens Guard has always been something I respected highly, and almost wish I could be a part of it.

The Americans and the British are brothers in arms. It makes no difference who is better or worst, we are on the same side.
I am an American and can tell you, from experience, the British Royal Marines are the toughest bastards I have ever met. I am glad they are on our side. I would not want to be their enemy.

Looking through the comments, why people have to make everything into a competition between Britain and America?
-Americans: "Blah blah da SEALs are better, 'Merica!"
-Brits: "U wot m8? SAS will kick your fockin arse!"
Seriously, who cares? We're allies and we're supposed to be friends. All of these hypothetical competitions and back and forth insults are just stupid.

The days of the media trying to make us hate our once former allies over several centuries is over: The Germans.
I sent my son and his girlfriend to Berlin for just a weekend in November last year and both adored the city :)
My Grandad fought from 1939-45: A good German female mate came to the UK to see where David Bowie was born in London, aged 18, and never left the UK, and now aged 48.
For my Sons age group, THAT war is a history book and that is it.
Over that 30 years Tina (Bettina) has lived here commented on how the pointless hostility she first had as an 18 year old girl had completely vanished.
Any people from any nation in London are welcome.
As I pointed out to my Son: In my younger days I used to ask girls what part of London they came from; his generation now asks what nation they come from.
Best wishes back to Germany mate!.
