All he really needs is an upgrade at bull rush and then just some injury recovery and he is ready to breakout…. He is sooooo close to becoming an elite game changer.
@@ChalkTalkFootball he doesn't convert speed to power... that is one huge limitation. And another is what you said... his bull rush is not used at the best times and he doesn't commit to it enough when he tries it. He needs to be reading his opponent and rushing smarter. I don't see him doing that... just my gut instinct.
Coming into this, just from paying attention to him in games and not as much actual tape, I’ve felt that his pass rushing is well behind his run defense. I’m scared of a Jadeveon Clowney arc for his career. He doesn’t have many pass rush moves and gives up immediately after the rush (usually) doesn’t work and drops into coverage. His leadership, instincts, and run defense are all top level, but he’s just not good at the most important reason he was drafted
Grant...I know I've said this before but I've listened to pro athletes or former pros who are now color guys on TV (TV analysts) that can't explain technique, fundamentals or scheme as well as you. They may know the game as well but can't vocalize it and teach it as well. I don't know if you're still playing, but if not, your career should be heading towards coaching or an analyst. This is a skill you have that is up there with the best. I'll keep listening and learning. All the best to you, young man.
Thank you so much. I love seeing you on my videos. Well, just as you advised, I have started on a coaching career. I am officially working with the University of Cincinnati this upcoming fall season. Thanks for watching again! Best wishes
Great analysis you’ve now gotten me to be patient with Chase as I wanted him gone before this unless he went off this upcoming season had no clue we were essentially playing him out of position when not in the 9 technique
Wow… great video. I was just listening to GP talking about how Young is always running straight into a bear hug, and is completely ineffective. He needs to watch this.
Thanks. I put a lot of time into this one. Hope it pans out. Send this video to him if you would. Grant Paulson isn’t wrong he just has the wrong terminology technically. That “bear hug” is literally the hug technique. And he is right, Young is largely ineffective against it. Thanks for watching!
I am skeptical how Chase will do this season unless he develops a solid bull rush and speed move, as the D seemed fine without him. But nice study though.
The Defense doing well in his absence will have no affect on his current play. It just means that everything he does is like cherry on top to a good defense. Also, it gives him further incentive to work hard to take that next step. Iron sharpens iron.
Glad you are optimistic but I just want to see him fully healthy or he will never actually live up to his potential… i firmly believe the injury has affected much more than his athleticism, and he doesn’t trust his body anymore, Hence the hesitation and one dimensional nature of his rushes. While he is absolutely an elite run defender and definitely has other talents that can help a defense besides pass rush, you don’t pick an edge at the #2 overall pick to stop the run. We need him to be ELITE and show a highly developed pass rush arsenal this season or he is definitely gone. He is currently a worse version of jadaveon clowney 🤷♂️ a solid NFL player and perhaps a starter at DE for some teams but just not an elite pass rusher… I hope he proves me wrong! 💪
Great in-depth analysis! But I'm confused on how this leads to Chase having a Breakout season in the future? Sure the injury stumped his growth. But I can see why we're hesitating to pickup his 5th year option.
Last season showed growth on all parts of his game in his rookie year. Only problem was, injury limitations. If he can get better in his injury, he has set himself up to take that step we all expected after his rookie year. Thanks for the watch and kind words!
Chase is an odd anomaly because it’s a perfect storm of disappointment to fans I guess. I’m still super high on him, but having insane hype, an award winning rookie year, sophomore slump (to be expected), and then a devastating knee injury was a perfect storm I guess for most fans to think he sucks. Those fans are ridiculous and just echoing other ridiculous fans takes. Everyone will see Chase is going to be a stud.
He’s a bum. Second overall pick should have more production. He should be playing like Bosa or Garrett or Hutchinson. Bosa had the same injury. He just won DPOY
Noted. I will think about this next video. I will say though, there are some restrictions with video, using things, and other behind the scenes stuff that it is better for me to have my analytics on screen but I will think about this. Thanks for the watch!
Really hope that Chase can work on his pass rush moves and hand placement and all that other good stuff over the offseason, I want him to show use he was worth the 2nd overall pick and he's a Maryland native like myself maybe he can work on his pass rush moves with nick or Joey but this really concerns me
If you got back to the patriots game in the preseason his second year he uses a pass rush move not sure what its called but he sacks cam newton and I have not seen that move ever since. Not sure why
Gotta be honest…I don’t see it. He still resorts to one idea/move consistently (although has slightly improved) he definitely hasn’t become the “Star” everyone including the NFL crowned him. Tbh he is a bust of a 2nd overall pick but a decent contributing player. So while fans might be down at least he’s a contributor. He was a beneficiary of a great Defensive line. He can play in the league but I don’t believe anything but a decent career is in his future unless he makes some massive leaps. To me it feels like he doesn’t want to improve in the off-season and doesn’t have the drive to work on his craft as a pass rusher that said he is a decent run stuffer which is why he might have a long career. A change of scenery and reigniting of his passion would probably be the best bet.
@@ChalkTalkFootball I never thought he was the correct pick. He is not better than montez. You are correct in saying his bull rush is weak and this is why he will continue to decline. I'm a fan of the team so I hope he does well but I would trade his ass now.
He won’t have a breakout year. I mean how much talent is on the commanders D line and he just stands there and gets blocked with ease 😂 all of a sudden he gets injured now he’s destined for a breakout year? Bruh it’s known all across the league “if I’m blocking chase young I’m looking GOOD today”
Chase young came into the NFL with 1 pass rush move that honestly isn’t even good. Now he has 2 moves and that’s get injured . I mean this dude would play nobody in college do very very well then play someone with a name and record 0s across the board. If I’m an NFL gm that’s literally all I need to see. “Oh he’s good against nobody’s and bad against somebody’s… why do I want him to develop for 3 years possibly get injured which is exactly what happened and then pay him 20 mill a year for him to just get 8 sacks a year. It’s a no brainer get rid of him as soon as possible because he still might have some value in trades. No value on the field. But maybe try and call the Bengals or something? Or just a really bad org like the raiders? They’ll be dumb enough to take the cheese
trade chase young and some picks to an idiotic team who still thinks young has potential for a bonafide QB. die hard young fan since his dematha HS days, and due to this hardcore following of his development or lack thereof after year 1 of the nfl, i can see this guy won't live up to his potential. when he was 100% health in year 2 for first half of season, and 90% healthy last few games last season, dude had little to no impact relative to where he was drafted. bonafide qb has 10x the impact young will have, when its all said and done. yes you give up some picks, but its worth it, as WAS doesnt need another sack machine, they have plenty. they need a leader on the offensive end.
It is going to be an ultimatum. Either Chase has a minimum of 4 sacks and 12 unassisted tackles before week 8, 2023 or the Commanders may try to trade him.

Great video sacks aren’t everything hes still a good de

Yes. He will probably be better.
Constant bullrushing tires you out fast, Young will be knackered by the third quarter. Pushing 340lb Tackles backwards will do that.
