I was going to pull the trigger on the original monarch because of the sub base, resolution, and the value. Do you think I will like these over the OG monarch with less of that sub base rumble but greater resolution and clarity? (+1 for the algorithm) Also are the bores as wide as the blessing 2?
I think the sub bass is more than sufficient on these, although its slightly less than the original its still extremely capable as a basshead IEM. The resolution and detail is amazing and makes it a all round better iem.

These 2 iems would be a good comparison review. thanks
Hello, can I ask which one is better, Sony IER-Z1R or Monarch Mk2? and what do you think about Moondrop S8? Should I upgrade to Sony or Monarch? Thank you
Coming from the Timeless; which "endgame" IEM would be the best bet to go for when liking the tuning, texture and speed of Timeless? Mest MKII = not enough low end/warmth? Xenns UP = not refined enough/too much bass? This one maybe? (Monarch MKII)
Honestly I think this one or the most bass-wise in quantity the 7hz sits somewhere between the 2. The monarch is indeed a touch warmer than the mest. The Xenns up is the furthest away, amazing earphones for bassheads but it's a very extreme slam style bass, I feel it's very genre-dependent and not as versatile as the other 2.
@@AudioLevels Hello, can I ask which one is better, Sony IER-Z1R or Monarch Mk2? and what do you think about Moondrop S8? Should I upgrade to Sony or Monarch? Thank you
I owned the Xenns UP and loved them but they were missing details overall in Bass Mids and Treble...... will the Monarch MK2 be a good choice or do you recommend a better option for June 2023 ????
thanks man ,i was waiting for this review as i have decision to make .as i understood from Linsoul description that they did changed the DD on this one ,most of the critics regarding the original monarch was regarding the bass texture or bass quality not the quantity .how do you describe its bass compared with the IER-Z1R or with the MEST MK2 ? .is it possible to do some comparison between monarch MK2 ,Mest MK2 & the IER-Z1R ? do you think that it pitch higher than its price ?
I will get that comparison done at some point. I think the punch above their weight right alongside those IEMs so even at the increases price point the represent great value when put directly against the competition. The bass can still hit very hard but is toned down in the sub bass whilst more detailed and rich in the midbass, it also has a better transition to the midrange than before. Goes hard enough to be considered basshead worthy if required but not as extreme as the Xenns Up or Mammoth. Also it was nicely receptive to EQ and worked well with the ifi go blu xbass setting.
@@assal_jakob the stock silicones for now work well, some with smaller bores i didnt like. The mk2 have quite wide nozzles. I def didn’t like the foam as it took some shine off the treble.
They used the Latest Drivers which they say sound a little better. Crinacle put this on top of the Audio IEM mountain. Glad you feel the same way. I'm keeping my OG monarch + this new Smart Cable, .Love the OG Sub-bass rumble while keeping everything else reference and close to the same technicalities
Ahhhh good to know about the drivers. I try really hard not to read much before reviews because I try to leave my bias at the door. Sometimes marketing can influence us even when trying to be objective.
I was going to get a combo of excalibur and clair, oracle and monarch, or clair and monarch. However, now I just need to get 1 iem which will save a few hundred bucks:)
Being a multi IEM kind of guy i would regularly said go for that but in this case it has to be the Monarch MK2 if the funds are there! At least thats what i would do in the same position. Grab a ifi go blu perhaps with the leftovers haha even though i have more expensive amps and dacs the blu and the mk2 are a match made in heaven with the kick of Xspace and Xbass when you feel like it 👌🏻👌🏻
@@AudioLevels Would you reckon the Fiio K3, Topping DX7 Pro, or smsl SU-8/SP200 stack would be revealing enough for these or too much power? Although, I would be totally fine with picking up the Ifi go blu and maybe throw in a Timeless as well to round out my iem setup. Iem amp/dac/daps have never really been something I’ve payed attention to due to the fact that I have 3 desktop setups for listening.
@@saucyg6371 i used it with my dx7 pro, sounds fantastic so no worries there. Maybe the 7hz would be uneccesary with the Monarch around inwoukdnt see them getting to much use. @@AudioLevels The DX7 Pro being a good pairing with it as well is a sigh of relief (I could buy iems all day but I can only handle so many sources in my setup at a time). And it’s all good, I appreciate the extra input on the Timeless and P1 plus.
I believe you're one of the few reviewers that genuinely enjoy electronic music so I was eagerly waiting for your take on this set. May I ask wich would you choose mainly for trance and the occasional shakira and jazz? monarch mkll, excalibur or mammoth? Would i be missing out if i chose the mammoth? Can the thie audios be just as good for edm? Also for the excalibur you said they drive pretty easily, with a black background and 3d presentation. Is this also the case for the monarch mkll? Thank you! Really appreciate your work.
Hi Max happy to share my thoughts. I think the Morach are in the end game category and they would be very good for what you are looking for. Now if you don't want to spend so much then the Excaliber are rock solid and I prefereced them over the Oracle. Monarch drive ok out a bad source but really scale up with power and quality. Mammoth is too much for my liking its all bass all the team, a very specialist IEM.
Can you compare the Baldr 2 with the Monarch Mk.II? I'm very interested in both of these models as they're both on my shortlist, but can't find many comparisons on the Baldr 2.
the baldr 2 are really nice but more of an acquired tuning. The focus is drawn to the highs on them and bass impact not as strong. The Monarch are tippy-top of the mountain for me and the Baldr a tier below. The baldr though are gorgeous, the shell made from wood is stunning.
I have been enjoying my Clairvoyance for a while now. I am now working out whether an upgrade is in order. At a minimum I think the cable is worth the price. Thanks for putting out these videos and good to hear you are able to reunite with your family after all this time.
I disagree about the cable- I prefer the original est cable. This one is too stiff and too chunky and the end is too heavy. Not a good cable, except for the interchangeable tips which are nice. But- as someone who owns the Clair’s and the mk2- you do get more details in the mk2. If you are focused on details it’s worth the upgrade, but much less bass than Clair to my ear. But the cable is not worth it to me.
Hi. Can you compare Monarch MKII vs Moondrop Variations? shell size: fit: which is more musical: sub-bass: sparkle: air: mids: treble: imaging, separation, layering, soundstage: anything else: thanks.
@@AudioLevels thank you. i know it should be more detailed. even sub-bass? i think Resolve said it still rumbles but the bass is weaker, but cleaner than the Monarch OG. a reddit user seems to also say monarch mk2 has greatly reduced bass. do you agree it was reduced? Would listening to certain bass tracks feel a bit lacking compared to one with more bass and rumble? Now ignoring the bass, what about sounding musical? Resolve said quite a few times the Monarch MKII was more of an analytical sound. Do you believe it is a musical sound? Or do you believe the Variations sounds more analytical and dry? as for mids, the Variations has a leaner sound. Does Monarch MkII resolve that?
The sub bass is less than the original Morach that is true, but this IEM is in no way bass light lol. It absolutely slams when it needs to and is capable of being used by bassheads no problem. Additianaly they are very receptive to further EQ in across all frequencies, where the Monarch OG was hard to tame. (Something people don't know is I'm heavily into EQ and do so with most IEM's after the review is done to fine tune them to my taste. With the Monarch MK2 I don't EQ at all because for my needs they are tuned to perfect out the box. Anyone saying the bass is light or greatly reduced has broken ears lol. Throw on 2 feet quick musical doodles and it absolutely slams. Maybe that statement is true if you are putting them side to side with a Xenns Up or Mammoth. Also I can't even fathom saying this is analytical. Its musical and immersive and great for just kicking back and getting lost in the music. It is ultra revealing and detailed and you could disect a track with it so maybe that's why they said that? To me analytical is flat, neutral and cold. A Ety ER4sr or Campfire Jupiter, Holocene etc. Something I would use for production or critical listening over pure enjoyment. The mest is more neutral than this and its def not analytical. As for head to head with the variations I would need to do AB but really its different leagues and should be compared with something closer in price. From brief back and forth they are not anything the same. Do you want the try to justify buying the Variations by them being close to the MK2 or do you own the Variation and want to upgrade? What I can now say after even more time with the Monarch MK since this review was posted is that these are my number one IEM go to IEM. I have a lot of options (maybe 10 IEMs+ in the 1000-2000 range not including my CIEM's) Still, this is the one that will be coming with me while I travel over the next 8 weeks. The one I want to listen to when not reviewing. I think that says a lot.
@@AudioLevels thnx a lot. I ordered Variations and they haven't shipped, so was wondering if I should just refund and get the MKII. So it is a big enough gap to pay 2x it seems?
Awesome review as always. Thank you! The Monarch MKII is the best sounding earphone I own. Glad to hear you feel the same. Endgame. The Monarch’s DD works only in the sub bass frequencies. That’s the biggest difference between this IEM and most others including the MEST MKII which I also own. Monarch MKII > MEST MKII. For me personally, The Monarch is perfection.

I'm using Google Translate Hi, I'm now wondering about monarch MkII and empire ears valkyrie MKII I like bass that is strong and doesn't cover other ranges
@@AudioLevels Thanks. I decided to buy them and hopefully I like them. It seems that sound in iems is incredibly subjective since there are a lot of conflicting views online about the same set of iems. Just have to try them for myself.
@@letsmobiles3396 I've never tried any iems near this price range so I can't compare it to any other iems. I definitely agree with AudioLevels' impressions though. It's the best audio equipment I've ever listened to. I'm not a very experienced audiophile so I don't want to say anything misleading.
@@letsmobiles3396 I neglected to mention this but despite AudioLevels' praise of the cable it's too heavy for me and actually gradually pulls the IEMs out of my ear. Using a lighter cable fixed this for me.
Love the review. Very close to getting a pair. My highest end pair of iem's so far is the ER4XR. That really turned me towards iem's. Before then I much preferred over-ears. I enjoy the warmth and the bass of the ER4XR over the ER4SR. I definitely lean more in the ER4XR direction. I know you said if someone went from the ER4SR they'd hate the Mk2. If someone wanted to go more in the ER4XR direction, would the Mk2 be good? Torn between the Mk2 and U12T.
I think you would love them, they just sound incredible. It will be a thicker sound than the XR (which I also have) but if you prefer the XR SR you would be more likely to enjoy the Mk2 as well.
my only concern is the reviewer's narrow preferences. For example, I tried the CA Dorado 2020 based on his review, and found the bass to be overbearing (which it is) and the pair of treble spikes to give the presentation of resolution. The soundstage on that IEM is like standing at the drumkit with your ear on the kick-drum and the singer is 30 feet behind it. The reviewer did not make much mention of this in his review. This leads me to believe that his preferences are very subjectively stilted. I have to add that I am not against a V-shaped curve, since I greatly enjoy the Senn IE-300. (which is somehow V-shaped and still manages to out-perform the Dorado in almost every respect)
whats stopping this quality being TWS when is the release of iems lossless or aptx HD using the new qualcomm chips going to be available … the technology is there now …
@@AudioLevels Thanks for the reply. I meant the size fitting. I know some people have issues with the larger Theiaudio IEMs. I have Oracles which fit great but a little worried about the larger models.
They're a bit larger from the Oracles (probably due to having more drivers). My ears I would say are a bit on the large side and the Oracles left just a little bit of room left while the MK2 kinda took all of it. They're not the most comfortable, but better tips can help aleviate it a bit.

I think he really, really likes these. I'm sold. Very good video in explaining why they are so liked. After researching and listening to other reviewers I respect, I am selling my Clairvoyance & 7Hz Timeless and I will buy these tomorrow. I love, love the Clairvoyance but I find they are a 'bit too much' for longer listening.; maybe I just feel too much energy , if that makes sense. I will keep my Moondrop S8. The 7Hz Timeless did nothing for my ears. Yes, very detailed but boring for me - good for $200 but I guess I'm past the $200 sound. I use the Ibasso DX3000 and A&K MK 70ii DAPs.
The point is this. Is it worth 200 dollars extra when maybe they have the same drivers models. Maybe only the tuning filters in the pipes are changed and that does not increase the value on the iem. Would be nice to know the price of the drivers. I know that Knowles has drivers from 8 dollars to 150 dollars per unit. The point is people don't know each one is inside. The shell should not be valued 200 dollars more. Or the tuning
Yes it is worth it if you want the best. The Monarch MK II is performing at the very highest levels now. Thieaudio have stated all the drivers have been updated to the latest versions, the DD redesigned, crossover points changed and it has been retuned. It’s a completely new IEM based on the already winning formula of the original.
@@msteele0 Well said. They did a funny thing with naming it the Monarch Mk2 because it could in many ways be its own product. But in another its smart because it build off that name and got people interested. I consider the mkI and Mk2 to be separate in most ways, both killers at their price points I guess.
@paulosilva8200 Thats just ridiculous. Price is far more than the sum of the parts. Its about time/cost/opportunity How do you price the skill of the person who has studied design and engineering, the value of the artist designing the faceplates, the team that created the cable and their value to the project into your equation? How do you factor in scale economies and limited production numbers increasing costs? A paintings value isn't just the cost of a canvas and brushes.
@@AudioLevels It's actually tuned more-so like the Clairvoyance but retains and builds upon the technical capabilities of the Monarch. Again, for my preferences, I can't see audio getting much better than this. It is very impressive and I already own a MEST MKII.
I dont get why there isnt a 6.35mm adapter on all these "modular solutions" when they completely forget about a section that customers will want to connect the best IEMs too...
@@MrB10N1CLE so whats the point in buying a modular system when you need to use an adapter anyway? 3.5 to 6.35? Which ruins the aesthetic look that the whole modular system was trying to prevent!?!? And all these adapter types are " extermely common" so that point is not valid at all 😂 would cost them hardly anything to include 1 more 6.35 adapter..
@@erfzjepacapej7648 Id rather have more tips, a better case etc than an adapter that is very very very very rarely ever used with IEM's. Why make a specific modular 6.35mm adapter that almost nobody will ever use when you could buy $1-2 dollar 1/4 inch adapter yourself and leave it plugged into the source.
The problem with thieaudio is the fz between 200hz to 400hz. In all models. They lack bass guitar. When I compared with my recordings the bass that should be 1 dB higher than the guitar, it's goes lower. The xenns up plays well that fz. This mk2 is great in vocals.
You're a reviewer on top of a regular job?! That's impressive af, good for you mate

Great review. It confirms what I know about Thieaudios products. I had the monarchs and loved those iems. I just got the mk2 and just as you explained I find myself relistening to old albums(Nevermind, also) I love them! Is it worth adding the Sony z1r to my collection.
@@AudioLevels Thanks. I have a hard time finding out that next move since The TImeless just sits with me so well.

How do these compare to the mest mkii?
thanks man ,i was waiting for this review as i have decision to make .as i understood from Linsoul description that they did changed the DD on this one ,most of the critics regarding the original monarch was regarding the bass texture or bass quality not the quantity .how do you describe its bass compared with the IER-Z1R or with the MEST MK2 ? .is it possible to do some comparison between monarch MK2 ,Mest MK2 & the IER-Z1R ? do you think that it pitch higher than its price ?
I will get that comparison done at some point. I think the punch above their weight right alongside those IEMs so even at the increases price point the represent great value when put directly against the competition. The bass can still hit very hard but is toned down in the sub bass whilst more detailed and rich in the midbass, it also has a better transition to the midrange than before. Goes hard enough to be considered basshead worthy if required but not as extreme as the Xenns Up or Mammoth. Also it was nicely receptive to EQ and worked well with the ifi go blu xbass setting.
@@AudioLevels thanks for your prompt response ,that ifi Xbass magic ,its addictive .what type of tips you settled on using with it ?
@@assal_jakob the stock silicones for now work well, some with smaller bores i didnt like. The mk2 have quite wide nozzles. I def didn’t like the foam as it took some shine off the treble.
@@AudioLevels do the AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC fit those nozzles ? if you have them to try !
I am really curious about those between those 3 as well. I own the z1r but I am curious about a comparison in depth about all 3 of them .
they did upgrade the drivers according to their description page.
Yep all new drivers with new crossovers. The DD now taking care of only sub bass. It acts as a true subwoofer now.
Have you found any tips that you feel work well with the Mk2 since filming this?
Have you heard the Moondrop Kato, and if so, how does it compare to the Mk2? I'm thinking of getting the MK2 as my endgame.
Sometimes marketing can influence us even when trying to be objective.
whats the smart cables brand?

@@AudioLevels All right so it might be the monarch mkll then. Now hoping the v14 divinity is more of a side grade than an upgrade! Haha. Thank you!

How does it fair with variations, EST112 and clairvoyance?
Great review. Now between this and Mest Mk2. Show me the light. Mest mk2 on sale until monday.

Hi. Can you compare Monarch MKII vs Moondrop Variations?
shell size:

which is more musical:
sub-bass:
sparkle:
air:
mids:
treble:
imaging, separation, layering, soundstage:
anything else:
thanks.
The Monarch reck them in most categories, different levels. Variations are still great at the price.
It would be great if you could compare the size of the IEM with a couple of popular IEMs. My big concern is the size, it's a chunky boi.
Its on the bigger side for sure, in the comparison video I will show side by sides.

Monarch Mki & Mkii.... What happens if you EQ each to sound like the other.... 🤔😘👍🤔
You need to review that DAP
my only concern is the reviewer's narrow preferences.
I have never reviewed the Campfire Audio Onyx so dont know why you posted here.

I agree with resolution.
Its about time/cost/opportunity
How do you price the skill of the person who has studied design and engineering, the value of the artist designing the faceplates, the team that created the cable and their value to the project into your equation? How do you factor in scale economies and limited production numbers increasing costs?
