    Great overview of these good-looking tropic straps. Are the straps compatible with Seiko's fat spring bars?

    • @AverageBros
      @AverageBros  Год назад +6

      They do not, Seiko fatties are 2.5mm and these take 2mm, I use these on eBay for a perfect fit to include correct tip size for a secure fit... www.ebay.com/itm/384021732054?var=652304917897

    Thats great that they are now using rounded edges on the 20mm. But on my 6.5" wrist the tail is too long. A great alternative is the Joseph Bonnie / Wolbrook version which is 75mm / 120mm in length and a premium product.

    My favorite straps. I’ve always preferred rubber and actually started off with Isofrane which are awesome but very bulky. Since i love the Vanilla scent i found out about Tropic and ever since getting my first one i have never looked back. They are about 10x as comfortable as Isofrane and much more supple. I love how versatile they are too. They can be worn casually or formally depending on the color of the strap. I still keep the isofrane on my Seiko Samurai as a rugged tool watch but i have Tropics on about 4 of my other watches that i wear a lot.

    I have to try one of these tropic straps. I've been using Barton's Tropic straps recently.. the slightly softer V2 version. It helps as the first were a tad too stiff. What I like about Barton are
    1) they give u both shorter and longer lengths for the strap.
    2) the keeper at the end holds the loose ends down great as it fits into and slots into the end with the slot cutout
    3) the strap immediately has a bend near the lug ends for easier wrap around wrist right off the watch head
    4) quick release spring bars
    5) quite affordable.. well under $40.. $30?
    They may not be as pliable as these tropic straps seem to be. That's not so bad. I'd say the one drawback is that the rubber used is rather grippy. Thus, securing the watch on taking off running the strap through keepers is not as quick as it should be.
    Anyways, should pick up one of these genuine/original tropic straps for a try to compare for myself.

    Great review. Thanks. I need to go through my divers and see if there are some I want to change the strap or bracelet. I haven't used a Tropic strap.
    The size I really would like of course is what they don't offer. I have a Seiko SLA that is 19mm. I have bought sail cloth, canvas, leather sport, and a leather strap I distressed. Keep putting it back on the blue Seiko strap. Just looks correct to me. I think Seiko could have made them softer. Have a brown strap on a sto turtle. Like butter soft. The search continues!

    For some reason when I put the Tropic, which I love, on this particular watch (SPB317), which I also love, it didn’t wear well. Kept rolling on my wrist. I put a Barton silicon strap on it and it stayed put. Not knocking the Tropic though because it’s great on my other watches.

    I wish someone would make a quality / comfortable strap for the Seiko Coutura and add some color
    and maybe stripes.
    I have 3 Coutura and if you touch those pins in their metal bands they will forever fall apart from then on.
    There have been many Coutura sold but a lot of them are not being worn because the bands turn to junk
    after being sized and . . . Seiko knows this.

    I love these straps, but as a guy with a 6.5” wrist who never wears a wetsuit, I can’t stand that extra tail poking out. I wish Tropic made a smaller 115/80mm size.
    The shorter alternative is to get Joseph Bonnie or Wolbrook tropics, which are the same strap with different buckles. Very flexible, and well-made, and cheaper than the original tropics.

    • @typebflieger
      @typebflieger Год назад

      @@phorty89Honestly, the quality is really good. Wolbrook and Joseph Bonnie seem to get their straps from the same company. The straps have fewer molding seams than others and the tropic pattern wraps around the top of the strap where it meets the lugs. Great for smaller wrists!

      @AverageBros  Год назад

      I did a JB review and I can assure you that they are not the same. They are quite different, not bad at all, quite premium but not quite as soft and supple. I do like them though, just a touch too short for me, I like to have a bit of tail end for a sportier strap.

    • @typebflieger
      @typebflieger Год назад

      @@AverageBrosTo be clear, I wasn’t claiming JB/WB were the same as Tropic. Wolbrook and JB are the same strap as each other.

    • @LiamMulholland
      @LiamMulholland Год назад

      @@AverageBros my issue with the JB strap is the keepers, for some reason they have decided to keep the serrated edge on the underside part of the keeper. This means that it digs into your skin when the strap is worn tight against the skin. I may have to sand them to make it comfortable.

      They're meant to fit over a wetsuit. If you're not not actually using it for its intended purpose (diving) just buy one of the many, many copies that other companies manufacture. I'll never understand why someone chooses to complain about a tool that does its job perfectly. "This is a great hammer, but it sucks when I use it as a screwdriver."

    • @Toddster63
      @Toddster63 10 месяцев назад

      Well, that’s not how Tropics are marketed. They’re marketed as being a watch strap that may fit over wetsuits. NOWHERE, have I seen them stated as a strap designed to fit over wetsuits that may fit over naked wrists for street wear. Since I don’t dive, and wear my diver on the street only, I find it EXTREMELY helpful that they can having fitting issues for naked wrists. The Hammer and screwdriver analogy is rather poor…!@@RockandrollNegro

    What is your recommendation for changing straps without scratching your lugs ?

    • @AverageBros
      @AverageBros  Год назад

      These have drilled lugs, so just use a punch tool to remove and a normal spring bar tool to install. If you feel shaky, then you can always put tape on the lugs for extra protection
