This was my second watch, and first seiko. Didn’t rly know what I was getting into besides just liking the design. Your vids and thoughts helped affirm me that I did not impulsively dropped money on an overpriced watch. Much appreciated.
Thats awesome to hear, happy that I was able to help out a bit and confirm your thoughts. Liking the design of a watch is more than enough reason to get a watch and design is something that Seiko has in spades considering all their iconic case shapes and more. In the end Seiko is Seiko and while they arent perfect, seeing their designs on my wrist makes me feel so happy. In the end thats what watches are all about!!
Thank you so much that's very high praise! So long as Seiko keeps putting out fantastic watches I'll continue to cover them. Hopefully 2024 will be a great year for them😁
Hey man, I’m a new subscriber and I own 3 Seiko divers 2 have actually been in the ocean when I snorkel here in Florida. My Orange Samurai is my favorite. Great channel.👍🏻
Thank you so much it means a lot to me that you're enjoying the channel enough to subscribe! Great to hear that your Seiko divers have seen actual water, mine barely touch water or rain lol. I've been wanting to learn how to dive so that my watches can live a good life doing what they were meant to do! One day maybe
@thewatchidiot just got mine very recently, and after a couple of days on the wrist, i now understand what you and others meant. The wearing experience is so comfortable. I love it and am starting to want the other color variations as well.
Congratulations on the pickup the 439 is such a stunning watch! Btw what color is the GMT hand some photos and renders it's blue but in others it's quite teal. Glad to hear you're enjoying the channel, there's a lot more to come😁
@@thewatchidiot to me it looks like a shade of Sky blue. The indices on the bottom half of the rehaut are the same color as well. It's a super nice detail!
I’ve been SO torn about grabbing this one! The only thing holding me back is the 6R movement. Dozens of 4R/NH3 movements haven’t disappointed me once, but four of the five 6R15 movements I’ve owned haven’t even met Seiko’s -15/+25 rating. I’ve been wearing my gorgeous MM200 “Great Blue Hole” all weekend. I sent it in for warranty regulation last year, but it won’t get me to meetings on time tomorrow. I love this GMT enough that I think about swapping an NH34 into it, which makes me second-guess my excitement for Seiko in general.
I say just go for it! I have the new 6R54 GMT movement in three watches at the moment (this MM200 GMT, The Alpinist GMT, and the Navigator Timer) and I haven't had any issues with them at all in terms of the accuracy ranges. Also if you want before potentially swapping it out for an NH34 you can try adjusting the 6R54 yourself or you can have it regulated. People have been getting these well within COSC levels after regulating them.
On the accuracy subject, I understand if it's your only watch. However most of us have many watches. I personally swap to a different watch nearly every day so it's less important.
Have you checked out the SLA055/57 and SLA073/75 . I believe that is the real MM200 and a substitute for the MM300 . Has a similar case to your gmt at 42.6mm but with wider and more beautiful bevels . I think that is the future of Seiko divers right there and I really hope Seiko bring out a simple black sunray dial and black bezel version of the SLA073 on the bracelet cuz that would just be perfect and will definitely cause a huge ripple in the landscape of Seiko divers (similar to when the MM300 came out ).
Yeah the SLA057 (the gilt version I think) is a stunning watch and is beautifully done! Although for me I'm not the biggest fan of gilt dials and especially gilt bezels so I'd have to see one in person to see what's what. Although lately I've been warming up to gilt dials. And while the current price of about $3600 is worth it, it's just a bit too much for me considering my love for the SPB383. But I agree if they release another one with a great bracelet and a great clasp it'll be next level stuff!
Great video. It's my "next" seiko when they will be lower priced in used condition. I really like a lot more the 8l35 movement. The sweep is a lot better and the accuracy also. It's not in the same league but not at the same price either.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah I'm sure the prices for used versions will be good soon enough. All the 8L movements are very nice indeed but like you said they cost more so I'm more than happy with the 6R movements I've got
I stopped buying Seikos after my Alpinist… because the 6R35 in mine is so terrible (even after warranty repair). I don’t want to gamble on it happening again.
My Alpinist with 6r35 is the most accurate watch I have. Too bad they're not better regulated out of the factory for consistency. Would iit really be that expensive for Seiko to do that? There are micro brands that sell for $500 that do it.
Thankfully I've never had any issues with seikos but technically speaking bad experiences can happen with any brand or movement so mechanical watches will always be a gamble to a certain extent. But that doesn't mean that Seiko shouldn't step up and tighten up the accuracy ranges should be standard for 6R movements at the very least
@@thewatchidiothe was more so referencing the frequency at which the quality control issues occur with the 6R35 specifically. Obviously all mechanical movements are prone to issues.
My Seiko srpd55k1 gains 2 to 3 seconds a day, I don't bother with the accuracy at all since I wear it for 4 to 7 days and then put another watch on my hand.
I had MM300, sold it, was just too thick, hard to wear. Bought SPB383, black version and only thing I regret is that didn't take green. Hope so somebody would do matching jubilee. Absolutely god tier Seiko
the green dial is pretty cool but for me the classic look of a black dial suits this watch. A jubilee for this one would be cool and i'm sure it in the works somewhere out there!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Definitely give it a shot and try to see it in person bc its really special. The SJE071 is stunning and it tempted me quite a bit when it was released! Hopefully I can get one in for the channel at some point I'd love to see it in person
Nice watch, but that's one hand too many for me. I have no use for the gmt complication. A regular diver works just as well for tracking a second time zone.
I feel like the shiny parts of this watch make it look cheap. Also if you are after a dive watch that works for Saturation diving you would expect it to be this big but standard diving to 40m does not require the watch to be this big. The case just looks like something you buy for under 100quid.
Stopped buying auto Seikos, I own 2 quartz Seikos (SNE573 and SUR447). Waiting for Seiko to release the SPB143 in quartz as that's the only Seiko I would buy.
I really wish there were more quartz variants of the SPB lineup a quartz SPB143 would be awesome and I would love a quartz Shogun as well to get it as light as possible
I've had the SPB 143 for almost two years and it still pleases my eye on my wrist. Of course I have problems with accuracy but I love it nonetheless. Yes, 143 quartz would be a nice option.
The case will never get old for me! Still love looking at it to this day😁 Personally I'm really happy that this is using a dive bezel bc it's more useful for my use case but mainly bc it still feels like it's a pure dive watch first that just happens to have a GMT function!

There is something which I found quite negative. There is no GMT 24 hours either in the bezel insert or the chapter ring. So how the heck you read the GMT hand?
Yeah this watch really does bring about all the best things that Seiko has to offer! Pure Seiko case and it being a GMT is a huge plus. So actually this SPB383 has a 24 hour chapter ring! I didn't show it in this video but you can check out my original review video and you'll see it there. It's quite subtle which I like just to make sure that it's prioritizing it's dive watch functionality and aesthetic
