  • Over the past few years GMT watches have been booming in popularity with brands like Tudor offering the Black Bay Pro, Black Bay GMT and Black Bay 58 GMT, and Longines with the new Spirit Zulu Time and Hydroconquest GMT. Seiko got into the game in 2022 when they released the awesome and affordable SSK GMTs which came with a new GMT movement.
    Since then Seiko has been pumping out a bunch of GMTs such as the Marinemaster 200 GMT (MM200 GMT SPB383), Alpinist GMT (SPB379), Field GMT (SSK023), the Navigator Timer (SPB411), and the Sumo Solar Quartz GMT (SFK001) and I’m all for it. But since there are so many out now I’m thinking it would be good to figure out which ones are the best having owned most of these watches.
    So in this video I’m going to go over the 5 best Seiko gmts you can buy right now in 2024 in no particular order and if you want more details on any of these watches i have dedicated review videos of each on so check those out afterwards and lets just get into it

    Yeah now looking back it's been a pretty great few years from SEIKO especially with their gmts. That navigator timer is just on another level

      Agreed it was kind of crazy thinking about just how many different watches were released over the past couple years. Lots to be grateful for! But yeah the Navigator Timer is stunning they did well on that one it was an awesome surprise when it was released

    Great review. I own 7 Seiko’s now , I just got a 1960’s reproduction as a retirement gift and absolutely love it ! Keep up the great work.👍🏻🍻

    Great overview (and collection). My sole GMT remains Seiko's SSK003, which I still love to bits, including the original bracelet: only change I made was swapping the stoch clasp for a Seiko MarineMaster clasp with that amazing on-the-fly diver's extension, which has absolutely comecin handy as we hitvthe warmer part of the year.

    I have 2 Seiko GMT’s, the SSK003 and SPB381 - love both of them. The SPB381 is on another level though, Seiko did a killer job on these MM200 GMT’s. Really my only complaint with it is the diver extension 😂

    Just to be the "um, actually..." guy here, the three and four letter prefix on Seiko model references are to indicate the movement family and not the collection. SRP is used for the 4R movement family and SPB is used for the 6R family. This is why older Seikos with the 7S movements use the SKX and SNX prefexes (among others) in their model references. This can be further narrowed down within the movement family like how the SKZ models all had the 7S36 movement so the second letter that refers to the movement family itself. JDM and other regional markets follow this nomenclature except with a different series of letters but the prefixes are still tied to the movement and movement family rather than the collection.

    The MM200 GMT is by far my favourite watch . I’ve got the green one and can’t take it off my wrist !

      @thewatchidiot  20 дней назад

      the green dial was a very close second choice for me! Seiko did a fantastic job with the MM200 GMT

    I like the SSK023 but I find the arabics on the fixed bezel and the inside set of smaller arabics on the dial confusing.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  25 дней назад

      Yeah at first when I got it, the inside track of numerals on the dial was definitely off putting bc it ends up being 3 sets of numerals total but eventually I got used to the whole thing and it didn't pose a problem thankfully

      @@thewatchidiot interestingly ssk’s friction bezel also can track time zones that are not whole numbers. Not many are aware.

    Are there any Seiko GMT watches where the GMT hand functions as a true/traveller GMT instead of a caller/office GMT?

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  20 дней назад

      No they havent made a flyer gmt function yet but who knows maybe in the future they will!

    • @lexieshores3889
      @lexieshores3889 19 дней назад

      @@thewatchidiot I think you should have mentioned that Seiko does not offer a traveller GMT function and that is probably more expensive to manufacture but is also very important and functional for travelers. I bought the new Seiko GMT when it first was introduced and discovered the function was not a traveller function and immediately took it back.
