What about the 6.0 diesel Ford trucks where one needs to pull the cab just to pull a head??????????? Not exactly driveway friendly.
*Hey Scotty, which Semi Truck is most reliable in today's market?*
I love you scotty

how can they love something that never breaks down ?
Nissan Sentra III, in Mexico it was made until 2017 under the name of Tsuru. Easy fix, lots of cheap spare parts and if the engine fails you can get a new one in box for 750 US. Maybe 75% of Mexico's taxi cabs are Tsurus.
The best way to repair any car is to install a 94 Celica and recycle the rest

It's near impossible to watch Scotty videos without smiling from start to finish. ☺
*but they don't HATE ripping people off.* 💯
@the1kamíkaze
- How can you tell?
Try fixing it yourself and see if it's a rip off! The only people that get ripped off are the mechanics!!!..
@@janinstuning5495 - Damn straight! You tell 'em!
Believe me, Scotty hates more than 5 cars 😂
He have his own videos to prove it lol
No doubt. Mini is the first of many that comes to mind.
Yeh, but he hates them all equally, certainly no discrimination, except for the Celica '94.
How can you leave out
A U D I ??
You have to take the whole thing apart to fix anything.
Went to my friend's to help put in a new clutch on his Audi ... I get there and he removed the seats and was taking out the headliner. "What are you doing??" I say when I arrive. He seriously looks at me and says, "to get to the transmission we have to remove all this and the dashboard too." Long pause... he busts out laughing and tells me he bought a new headliner and says, "but don't be surprised how much of this car we're going to have to take apart to access the transmission."
scotty forget to mention two brands with they use the same parts for their cars and models VW and AUDI here in Mexico the nightmare of the Mexicans mechanics are the engines 1.8 T from the JETTAS and GOLF models and the transmissions DSG or double clutch hard to fix specially the models around 1998 and 2004 in some AUDI models and automatic PASSATS but VW the reasons why I'ts not the most hated brand in Mexico are the classics VW Bug called vocho here in Mexico and the VW Karmann ghia/el deportivo and the VW Square back / la fusca nicknames of those models in Mexico and the VW combi bus/ samba bus and the VW wagon/brasilia these old cars from VW are easy to fix all of those models used the same engine that are cooled by air and that engine I'ts a bullet proof a 2.0 V4 boxer and 2.5 L4 boxer engine but later in the 2000s to these days VW and AUDI build garbage engines and trans with a lot electronic issues
@GERARDO J JURADO LOPEZ check oil for sludge, possibly bad oil pump
@GERARDO J JURADO LOPEZ the principals reasons with the 1.8 T fail because It needs a special oil engine the motor need synthetic oil from VW to work but If the car doesn't start I think I'ts the starter cause the starter is connected with the sensors and the computer of the car typical from AUDI and VW models from 1999 to 2006
So you're saying theyCAN be fixed?
@@rytvdinners5064 Not exactly I was saying the reasons why It fails the electronic issues are so serious specially in the VWs and modern NISSANS and the brands with models with a lot of electronics never buy a car with a lot of electronics I own a Honda prelude 1995 manual transmission and a Toyota 4runner 1998
I was waiting for him to say “taking off all this plastic crap” lol
That plastic crap never made sense to me either! Just makes a really good place for mice to hide. Waste of time having to take it all off just to see the fuel rail. Probably put on there to help keep those who know nothing about engines from becoming overwhelmed when they see a few wires.
same phrase he used on girls
Back in 95, I had an 84 Jaguar XJS. It was a beautiful car that cost me thousands to keep on the road. The last straw was when the wiper motor went out. $1,250 for just the part!!! I put RainX on the windshield and drove fast until I sold it.
@Todd m and it was sealed so you couldn't rebuild the damn thing. Believe me, if I could have jb welded a different one in place I would have.
when all cars become electric the mechanics are going to be electricians.
@Rick Deegan Because cars weigh thousands of pounds?
Not electricians *technicians.
Excellent comment boss
@rick deegan because they need to output hundreds of kilowatts of power, which would require insanly high current (and thus insanely thick wiring... probably motor windings too) if the voltage is low.
you shouldn't worry about high voltage in cars; they're plenty safe... when the system is off the high voltage supply is disconnected right at the battery so the rest of the system is harmless. and most if not all hybrid/ev batteries have a service plug that will break the series chain somewhere around the middle, so the voltages inside the battery aren't deadly.
@dig bounty and computer programmers.

@FlamQ Dbltap Scotty says lease it. If you really want a sports car, try Mazda Miata. Everything else that is sporty should be leased.
JamesJ5664 you’re joking right lol? A 4 cylinder miata is hardly a sportscar. Those things are slow as dust
@@andeleputo89 Miata is not fast, but the corner turn handling is good enough to be classified as sporty.
@@AkiraNakamoto I like how you said "good enough", the body roll on those cars is so epic I'm surprised that the shipment from Japan made it.
@@andeleputo89 Yeah it's considered slow by today's standards, it has like a 7-second 0 to 60 time and tops out at 136 if it's lucky. Today's standards are actually way too picky, there was a time when a car that did 60 mph in six or seven seconds was considered fast.
True Story: In my country, years ago, Jaguar cover up their cars whenever being towed. That way, people think that they never breakdown.

Next would be 5 cars mechanics love to work on.
Scotty's list would probably be like:
1 - Toyota Celica
2 - Toyota Corolla
3 - Toyota Camry
4 - Toyota RAV4
5 - Any Lexus
😂😂😂
Don't forget the Honda that never breaks down.
@@marauzinho1679 Nah, I don't think so. If they hardly break, there is nothing for the mechanics to work on. How are they going to feed themselves ? So I will probably say:
1. New Jeeps
2. Range Rovers
3. Mercedes S class
4. Post Renault merger Nissans
As a Electrical & Electronic Engineer, I have worked from the age of 12 to now on the tools, these days you have Engineers that have not been on the tools, so they have no idea of what the mechanics have to go through to repair the motor vehicle,
Actually Saab stopped "putting their engines in backwards" in the 1980's with the 900 series. From the 1990's on Saab automatics were made by Aisin, the bulletproof Toyota owned company and pretty much the same as in a Toyota (that Scotty sings the praises of all the time)! I've had no problems getting parts for my 9-5 and they're no more expensive than any other car I owned.
2.8 tt ?
Over the past 40 years, I have had 4 Saabs, still own two, and my experiences mirrors yours. Having a mechanic replace a fuel level sensor can be expensive, but Saab is not the only auto that stupidly requires you to drop the gas tank. I suspect that Scotty has not touched one in a very very long time.
Nothing puts a smile on my face like Scotty’s videos

1:18 I'm a big fan of how scotty shamelessly displays his trash 😂😂😂
Scotty makes a good point. Compared to 2 VWs and 2 BMWs I've worked on, the 4 Toyotas have been much easier to work on because the engineers at Toyota clearly tried to make it easier to repair them whereas VW and BMW obviously don't give a darn about future repairs (which are also more frequent).

I don’t know either. The latest XJ (along with all recent Jags) doesn’t have inboard rest discs. Not only that, Jag V8s share a common architecture with the Ford V8s (they were designed when Ford owned Jaguar) that Scotty was praising in the video....

It's not the voltage that kills you it's the amperage (current)
@Dr Frank So When you jump a car with different cables, you get different "juice" with the same 12 Volts. Aahh.
true, plus if it's A.C. (120 , 240 in house, building) , heavy "juice, n very dangerous.
Current = Voltage / Resistance. You don't get any current through dry skin at 12V
@@peterv1436
no , but 120 v , 15 amps , A.C., ya sure do. very dangerous, n deadly.
It’s a combination of the 2 that becomes deadly. 12vDC is safe even though that battery can deliver 600+ amps. 600A is about 40 times the actual current you’ve ever been zapped with if you got a taste of US “house” current at 15A on AC; the difference (other than being AC not DC) is the 10x higher voltage on the house circuit (110V). Not that house current will kill you but it sure does get your attention 😂😂😂
That's why I love my 03 lesabre! Simplicity and good engineering AND reliability!
Most of the old Buicks were good cars. I remember seeing a top 10 cars list some years back. Buick was the only American made car on the list. Then they went and changed them all. An American writer commentor called American carmakers stupid for doing that. You have a good product, you keep improving and refining it. Like many of the foreign carmakers.
"Porsche or should I say Porscha👐" 🤣🤣🤣
I really do laugh when people smugly say "German Engineered" as if it's a good thing. That's like getting pissed on by a bunch of dudes saying "I like drawing a warm bath occasionally."

Calls to Jaguar/Porsche parts departments should automatically transfer to their sales department. After 2 or 3 times the callers might get the joke/message.
You call tell the frustration by how he said "PORSCHAA"
Scotty is honest a rare commodity these days.
VW Passat, Audi A4 A6 are Pita to work on.
I had a 91 Golf. Aside from something or other constantly going wrong with it, working on it was a huge pain. Had to get the water pump done, mechanic had to rip apart the entire passenger side suspension just to get to it. Blegh.
I think the early 90s escorts and tracers had a deal where you had to drop the engine to replace power steering pump.
GM totally mismanaged Saab like they do everything else. They never let Saab be independent, everything in the Saabs were G.M. parts.
Thanks, Scotty. You're the best automotive consultant these days. Bravo! Bravo! And we keep calling you back for encores. :^)
You're not allowed to call it a "slave" cylinder anymore. It's now a "historically oppressed" cylinder.

Agreed, I "found" a fuel pump access cover on my 1999 Expedition. Running around 300k, glad I found it!
The Prius is the most reliable car we’ve ever owned. In 5 years and 50,000 mi the only thing we’ve done is buy a set of tires. That said, buy a new one, that way you know it’s been maintained and follow the maintenance schedule.

From time at 7:11-7:27 was too funny yet very true!!!! You are one of the most honest and realistic mechanics! Thank you!!
I can vouch for the clutch slave cylinder on Fords (actually Mazda manufactures them). Slave cylinder quits? Gotta drop the transmission and you might as well replace the clutch kit while you're there.

Have learned lots of valuable information from you Scotty. I appreciate your help and knowledge.
I'm old school. I never liked the hybrid cars. They just seemed wrong and expensive if you keep them too long. The electric cars have been known to have fires because of the lithium batteries like the Teslas for example. I'll stick with the standard piston engines. Good review.
Kia Stinger... If a pack rat chews on the electric thermostat, you HAVE to drop the subframe of the vehicle with the engine and transmission on it. The thermostat is behind the engine above the transmission where there is no access. I've seen it happen a few times already. One guy had to get his car insurance involved because warranty doesn't cover pack rat damage.
Scotty should be a comedian. He is too funny
"I'm going to show you how to install a water pump on a Jaguar and save hundreds of dollars." Oops wrong channel.
The S-type was owned by ford and is considered an old Jaguar. These new cars are designed to take more money.
It;s good to see the old digs in Houston, Scotty.
Don't know about other saabs, but I have a 9000 with almost 400,000kms, I drive them all over the place and have done for years, I've also got a Toyota hilux that I've owned from new for ten years and they seem to have about the same level of reliability (i.e., near enough to 100%) notwithstanding the fact that the 9000s are much older vehicles.
The saab has many more fasteners and the fasteners are much stronger than in the Toyota, which does make working on the saab a bit more time consuming, but as far as placement and access for parts goes, they seem to be about the same as each other.
15 of the dislikes won't admit they bought a terrible car brand
The mechanic hates my 1999 Boxster (bought new in November 1998) because nothing went wrong until it had 96,000 miles on it. Alternator went. 97,000 or so and the water pump went. 98,000 I decided it was time for a new clutch. I wasn't so lucky with my 1992 Celica (though I still loved it)... or my 1989 Acura (master cylinder failed at 37,000 and 74,000...Yes, twice, among other things. The Boxster is still fun at 101,000 and I still have it. I have since bought a 2017 Cayman. Crossing my fingers. 🤞 😉

I love all 3 Porsche’s I’ve owned. Had great mechanic too!!
The old Saab 900s are exactly as you said - extremely hard to fix certain common things. For the record, the European-built 9-5s are the opposite in many ways (easier than others to repair) - as an example, you can change the clutch without removing either the engine or transmission (just open up the front subframe, split the engine and transmission, change the clutch and reverse the process). Also, the Direct Ignition is remarkably simple, works really well and is easy to replace. The major flub is the comfort system - this works incredibly well, but if it fails, it has to be changed out in its entirety, which involves removing the dash, front seats, etc.. Agreed that a) expertise/special tools are required in all cases, and b) some parts are hard to come by these days - no wonder mechanics hate them. I'm driving my second 9-5 Aero (4 cylinder w/manual transmission) now (runs perfectly at 225k miles), and I sold my last one at 280k miles on the original clutch (and is still running for the 2nd owner), and neither car burns oil (both run Mobil-1 High Mileage full synthetic). Most people that have had bad experiences with 9-5s probably had the wrong people working on their cars (I have a Saab Master Mechanic with a GM Tech-2 computer, who really knows how to use it), or bought one that was badly maintained. Obviously, Saab expertise and parts will become harder to find over time... Truth in advertising - I worked at a Saab dealer which was #1 in the US for customer satisfaction (multiple master mechanics, all specialty tools present..), after I started driving Saabs. The biggest issues we saw were with a) V-6 models (shoehorned into the 9-3, belt drive OHCs with sludge problems in the 9-5), and b) 9-3 sport sedans (electronic body controls and AWD systems were problematic). Thank you for great RUclips videos.
900 series Saabs were very easy to work on. DIY clutch replacement 2 hr, water pump 1hr, starter 1hr, fuel pump 1/2 hr, turbo replacement 1 - 2 hr. One just needed to understand the design philosophy and then it wasn't bad.
Love your content, scotty! 🔥
This guy’s videos offer a unique perspective on the auto industry. Increasingly it feels like this industry is neither consumer nor mechanic friendly when it comes to services. Quite a contrast from all the glitzy marketing we see from the brands we respect.
To be fair, on most hybrids, there is a fuse at the battery you can remove which disables all the electric system so it's safe to work on. It's a safety item, so it's easily accessible too.
I love the horse laughing 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Customer: What model of General Motors do mechanics hate to work on?
Scotty: YES!!
Actually, anything GM older then 2000 is decent
I used to have a Toyota Prius II, and don't get it why Scotty hates them. Most reliable cars on earth, as the taxi drivers can prooove it. You don't need special 120 dollar gloves, just take off the security key from the big battery. Also I never heard of generators breaking. These cars run for 200 000 Miles without any serious trouble. Nowadays you can get a single battery cell regenerated for like 50 dollars (it has like 20 cells in total, and they never fail all at a time, maybe 1-2).
Scotty likes to generalize by putting all cars in a certain category in the same boat.
The inboard brakes are for the reasons, first they can be larger because there is no restrictions with wheels, secondly, unsprung weight, centralising the cars weight makes it handle better. Lots of cars have inboard brakes, a number of lotus and even the little Chevrolet matiz, but that is because the wheels are to small.
Hey Scotty, My wife has a 2012 Honda Accord that’s in great condition. My question is, is it necessary to replace the time belt at Honda’s recommended mileage immediately if the vehicle is running good? They recommend one
hundred thousand miles and our car has one hundred five thousand currently.
Yes. Always replace the timing based on the service schedule 👍
You’re like the smart white uncle I never had LOL! Thanks for sharing👍🏾
"You guys can go to Hades!" LMAO I'm dead!
The kinds of cars mechanics also hate are the ones that don't break because they can't make money on fixing them because they don't come in to get fixed the first place
i had a 2003 chevy venture that you had to pull the engine to replace the back spark plugs.
No surprise, since they were known to rust out due to windshield drainage. Apparently that's a thing.
Why Netflix?
When you can Scotty Kilmer!
I’m glad I got myself a simple GMC Yukon.
It's not the voltage that kills, it's the current measured in Amps! and any electrical shock above 2 milliamps can be lethal regardless of the voltage delivering such electrical current.
“Inboard Disc Brakes” is the stupidest combination of words I’m gonna hear all month 😂 dear god, never mind HOW... just WHY???
They didn't think much why the majority of cars don't do the same stuff as the very specialized oddball racing or off-road application. No regard to regular service when a pit-crew just hot-drops and changes out a whole sub-assembly. Might also see that in the occasional semi-truck too (keeps them isolated from debris and moisture), but air-brakes are already different enough and have room to work without having to drop things from under a lift.
It reduces unsprung weight. They weren't the only company to do it.
Hummer h1s have inboard brakes
Thanks, I love laughing at Jag, Benz, Fiat and especially BMW owners.
Alfa Romeo should be top of this list Scotty, you need to drop the engine out to change the alternator 🤔😂
Regarding the van; why couldn't you take the passenger seat out and remove the engine from the passenger side? That's how they used to do it back in the day
All the dislikes own one of these vehicles.
