News flash as of 11-1-22 the 2022, 2023, models are already on the market and they are taking orders for the 2024 389 year models now so I they change their mind over at peterbilt, and thank goodness. Lol 😆
Devastated by the fact that their discontinuing one of the most iconic and sought after trucks in the industry. Makes no sense, because the demand is definitely there.
I just got off the phone with Peterbilt... This is a false statement. No immediate plans to discontinue 389 is still full production until further notice. This video needs to be edited to reflect the truth.
Paccar is not discontinuing the 388/89 or the W900. In fact, Kenworth has made it very clear that their remaining B-cab models will stay in production indefinitely. The two makes also share parts and assemblies with each other, with Pete using KW frames, and KW utilizing low-leaf and flex-leaf rear suspensions as options. Both makes also use the Paccar engines and drivetrains. Model introduction timeline: - Kenworth W900B - late 1982 - Kenworth T800 - 1987 - Kenworth W900L - 1990 - Pete 378/9 - 1987 - Pete 388/89 - late 2006 (All currently in production)
Modern Peterbilts okay but old school truckers know the 359 with the CAT and a 6 x 4. best truck ever made. . End of story them old cats go a million miles and they got better fuel mileage and more power than the modern stuff
I have a 2002 379 with a cat c-15 ( 6nz motor ) that I bought brand new. The old girl has 1,440,000 miles on the motor and I've haven't overhaul it yet. Still run strong and doesn't burn any oil. Let's see that paccar motor last that long
Bull. I own a 2019 389. One Service Bulletin after another. The 565 Cummins is not the monster they make it out to be, and the in dash GPS is a mess. You can go to the same customer five times, and it will give you a different route every time. It looks good, but all that glitters is not gold.
I’m really curious about what is going to replace peterbilts flagship truck. I’ve always been a fan of the 379/389, and it’s sad to hear they are going to phase out the 389.
Ooh a million miles without rebuilding, stop the presses ......my lord, cat achieved that a long time ago with more horsepower and far greater reliability.
the only way a Paccar engine will ever see a million miles, is if you load it on a flatbed and haul it around behind a Cat a Cummins or Detroit, I have witnessed at least 3 that went down with 250,000 miles. You are destroying what shallow reputation you have, and at only 3,200 subscribers, of which I am not, that is a very shallow rep.
I drove a 2014 389 long haul a few years ago. Truck had 330,000 KMS (Canadian) on it I believe when I got it. I used to pull b-trains (140,000 lbs) in Canada with it and plenty of tandem tandem on a 10'1 spread in the US eastern seaboard and I quite enjoyed that little MX13. Much quieter than any cummins that sounds like they're ready to blow up when you're in the fuel pedal. On longer rides, quite is nice. I used to like a 6nz with 6' straight pipes but quiet time is nice time lol.
Reason why mirrors were moved from doors was for many things. One we had severe corrosion problem between mirror mounts and door. Mirrors made upper part of the doors flex causing air leaks aka noise.
Parcar motors are slow compared to any other engine make personality I prefer theCUMMINS ISX 15 I wish my truck had the CUMMINS in it then I wouldn't be in the shop for over a week. Blown head gasket or cracked block Pacar engine 30,000 miles you gotto be kidding.
Smartnav radio is a pile of crap. It always screen locks on a black screen. Theres nothing to wow about it. It was immediately out of date the moment Peterbilt installed it in the dash. The problem? It was running android 4.1 which is notorious android operating system that kept crashing. And way Back when samsung Galaxy s2 phones were out. Most android devices range between 9.1 up to 10x or 11. To reset the radio you have to hard reset it by holding 2 buttons on the radio. The menu square and return arrow. Hold it till a screen flickers, release, then radio will restart. So now, There is your 11th thing you didnt know about peterbilt 389's
This video seems to be the only place announcing the retirement of the 389...cant find anything on it anywhere. Youd think itd be big news, unless this video is wrong.
Ive heard that they were gonna out it, but why would they? What was the difference between 379 and 389? They had the same basic style, different interior yeah but i dunno seems like a bad move.
@@jackschromeshop8296 yeah but you gotta think they'd keep the iconic design with modern upgrades. However in my own opinion don't try to fix what's not broken.

ive asked a bunch of people and people say that its not true, the 389 is not going anywhere where are you guys getting this info from that the 389 is going away?
I'll take the KW W900L any day over the fucking peterbilt. Also, the peterbilt is the sister to the Kenworth! Kenworth bought out peterbilt. That's how it became part of the Paccar lineup.

Haha didn’t expect to see you here
But yes bring back the 359 I’d buy one
What?

359 and 379x best trucks they made
especially the 359 models
Also the 281
“They would cease production of the 389 in 2021” as I sit with a 2022 389 in the driveway…
They will quit making them soon though I think because they aren't streamlined enough 🙄

And the 3408 and the 3412
Wouldn't trade my old 379 with a 6nz Cat for any 389!
Wouldn't trade my model t for my own life.
I have a 6nz in my 389
Seems like it's damn near the same truck
Mx13 is junk. We're getting rid of ours and going back to Cummins
No comment... but... you can’t go wrong with a CAT!
Yes they are.I have 3 tore down at work right now waiting on parts
I love Cummins
Hard to beat a Cummins

That the 379/389 trucks have better resale than the W900 is very true. The Pete is simply a better, and better built, truck.

No news of retirement here, just rumblings in the industry
Mirror change happened on the 379
It happened between the 379 and 389. The mirrors were redesigned in 2007, same year 389 was introduced.
Jack's Chrome Shop cab mounted mirrors were introduced in 2005. There are 05 and 06 model year 379’s with a split of cab or door mounted mirrors.
