I have 3 trucks with Paccar motor never had any issue with motors but do have issue with def so this time I bought 06 379 with cat motor let's see how it goes, my only issue with mx 13 is no one can work on the motor except dealer and if I have to do inframe it will be very expensive probably I can do cat or Detroit inframe for half of the cost.
Your problem is that your system (USA) is non-metric. The MX-13 from DAF Trucks is metric and sold all over the world. All countries are metric except the US.
There is no difference in the steering geometry of a long hood and a short hood. If you don't like the steering stops, adjust them. A shorter wheelbase 389 will turn sharper than a longer wheelbase. If you don't like the 5th wheel adjust it and lube it properly. FYI that bolt coming out of the front is the adjustment. Smartnav is a POS I agree! That's why I didn't get it on my 389. 23 gauges on the B panel is what I ordered.
If you do regular maintenance on your dpf you have less problems. Every 150-200 thousand have it cleaned. As far as the def system, I have only had two issues since 2010. One was a bad sensor and the other was a burnt heating line. One more thing, I have never had as good fuel mileage as I do with my 579 Pete with a pacar engine than i ever had with any other truck.

My cousin hated her paccar engine. It went tits up just after the warranty went out. Had it rebuilt. It went tits up again a year later. Truck payments with engine rebuild payments were tough. Truck payments along with 2 engine rebuild payments broke her.

The 4th and 5th things you hate is the best thing I like about my 2000 Long hood, 379, C-15 6NZ. No emissions, 600 h.p. C-15, no "E" Logs, smoke nice sound and no trips to the dealer to fix my emissions. I'll just keep putting money into my old 379 thank you. All this emission garbage was about the smoke, people saw the smoke and freaked, "Oh the smoke is killing our mother", "Oh the sky is falling", I mean really, give me a break.

Actually I have a EXHD and my tire rubs on the pitman arm. I don't think it matters wether it's a short or a long hood. They both have a shitty steering radius.
For someone who actually worked for PACCAR, i can tell you the rate of return of their MX-13 engine parts in comparison to Cummins parts is unreal. Especially PACCAR cylinder heads come back like you wont believe it. If I were to ever purchase a truck PACCAR whether it is Kenworth or Peterbilt wouldn't be one of them. They make garbage product and do not care who they screwed over. STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING PACCAR.

Our customer base is near 1000 trucks and in the past 2 years only 1 head had to come off. iirc it was because the driver ignored the low coolant warning and overheated the truck.

1.) Nothing you can do about that except better specs. Only benefit to short-hood 389s are no long tractor permit needed in BC Canada (if you even go there). 2.) You can swap touch-radio with an aftermarket. It's a pain though - primarily the wiring. Probably best to take it to a professional unless you're good with car audio. 3.) Kenworth fifth wheel. I got one, raised to 52" since I pull tankers (makes the axles weight out better since we don't do sliding tandems). Pull tab is much easier to pull and locks. 4.) DPF/SCR can be and should be deleted if you can, but if you can't, spec rears to run high RPMs at 65-70. Keeps the DPF nice and hot, and hot = longevity for those things. 5.) Never ever ever ever buy a Pete/KW with an MX-13. Some guys will argue, but the Cummins is objectively superior in all aspects except for initial cost. MX-13 is a cheap fleet motor, hands down. LOL, where do you think the soot that is trapped in the filter ends up when the filter is cleaned or repurposed? In the environment. It's a market created by the government to extract more dollars from an industry and to stifle the competitors of the mega carriers. Plus carbon emissions are great for the environment. We learned all about how greenhouse gasses feed our plants, which filter our air.
I have a 2019 389. The dimmer switch went out on my stereo, so they are finally replacing it next week. They also have a software update available. Mirrors came apart at 40,000 miles, fuel doesn't transfer between the tanks correctly, on and on. 389s are a warranty hog.
Why the hell would you buy a pete or a Ken and the cut corners on the spec? Better to get a fully spec'd lesser model from paccar. Or the top of the line from another brand
389 sucks in everything aspect I used to drive 389/w900 until I tried Volvo 860 Ultimate Premiere Globe troller . We went from FL to Alaska 2 times a week never a issue but our 389/w900 sucks and breakdown every moth ..
Jan Ligthart it never goes in engine, it is mixed in the exhaust and goes out the stack, it does nothing for power except allows more timing and fuel with fewer smoke particles

I bought myself a Rolls Royce and it broke apart within two months. And you know what? No guarantee. What is this for rubbish? PACCAR started to build DAF Trucks in Brazil and no Peterbilts or Kenworth. And within 6 years DAF is one of the favourites there. DAF trucks is the second best in Europe for the 16 ton + market for many many years.
I'd like to see Prez. Trump tell the EPA to drop the DEP systems. Not one of the environmental agency's, even CARB, can specify how harmful the diesel emissions are. They proved how Lead effects the environment, not diesel emissions. Not a single study. That's called 'hysteria for no reason'. I'd like to see diesel engines become more efficient, w/ that efficiency will come the reduction in 'harmful' emissions, whatever they are. But everyone wants to complain about the cost of transport. Well, they're staring it right in the eye w/ these DEP systems. I'd like to see a delete kit & a re-flash program that can be installed by the owner, not the dealer.

I’m subscribed just cause I know the company you drive for or leased to in Nebraska
How can a rod go through the block with 700 miles on the truck? You need to explain this!
I've got the newer revised paccar 13 they just came out with. So far it runs really great zero issues. 200k miles so far.
Nice
You have 389 too ?
Does your radio crash and reset while driving?
I have a 07 389 with cat, only problem is it's a 10 speed.
I miss my 07 cat 379
LOL, where do you think the soot that is trapped in the filter ends up when the filter is cleaned or repurposed? In the environment. It's a market created by the government to extract more dollars from an industry and to stifle the competitors of the mega carriers. Plus carbon emissions are great for the environment. We learned all about how greenhouse gasses feed our plants, which filter our air.
When you get a call, turn the radio off before you answer
Things I hate about my freightliner coronado:
Not a damn thing.
One thing you probably won't post is 5 things i love about Tonys Freightliner Cascadia lol
I wouldn't know where to start. Probably the crazy driver would be first.
Check the resale value on a similarly equipped CUMMINS or Detroit, and now you know why they are worth more.
I have a 2019 389. The dimmer switch went out on my stereo, so they are finally replacing it next week. They also have a software update available. Mirrors came apart at 40,000 miles, fuel doesn't transfer between the tanks correctly, on and on. 389s are a warranty hog.
my new 2020 truck i got with thr basic radio cost extra but worth it
You are certainly welcome to the Volvo I drive
Why the hell would you buy a pete or a Ken and the cut corners on the spec? Better to get a fully spec'd lesser model from paccar. Or the top of the line from another brand
Engine has to come out to do any cam shaft work
389 sucks in everything aspect I used to drive 389/w900 until I tried Volvo 860 Ultimate Premiere Globe troller . We went from FL to Alaska 2 times a week never a issue but our 389/w900 sucks and breakdown every moth ..
Cummins has same external fuel rail and operates at 35000 psi under full power !
What has pis to do with power?
@@47rintin1 everthing, this is how you can get fuel particles to burn faster in the cylinder
@@mixermanone but how do you get your piss in the engine?
Jan Ligthart it never goes in engine, it is mixed in the exhaust and goes out the stack, it does nothing for power except allows more timing and fuel with fewer smoke particles
Good info.
Wait till the turbo start giving you problems nobody wants to work on him
The thing I hate is it's not as good looking as a 359.
the thing i hate is that it has a paccar and not a Cummins or a cat
I remember it blowing up when you first got it
Can I have your truck since you hate it so bad ? Please it would be a huge help
Certainly, it was sold for 80k I'm sure if you found the current owner they would sell for the right price
@@tips4truckers252 ohh.ok
Why would u order a 389 with a paccar? Im shocked that an older guy would do that! Cummins is the next best thing to a Cat in my opinion!
500k and a Cummins is done, cam and fuel pump wiped
I know how you feel about that nav screen. My dad's f350 is the same way. Dunno why.
We got a PACCAR in a 389 and it went to the shop twice in the first 2 weeks. I’m about to go from a 379 with a c15 to a 389 in a few weeks. I’ll cross my fingers it’s not a PACCAR.
Just tell ol jim you want a long nose 🤣 shorties are all he’ll ever buy the seat warmers you gotta be a cyphers if you want a nice truck
I just don't like asking for extra stuff.
I agree with you.
If you buy DEF fuel out pump you asking for trouble it get cold in tanks in ground it below that 34 it no good
The def tank on your truck has a heater in it
@@tips4truckers252 it don't matter if it all ready milkey out tank the heater in tank don't matter it junk
I hope they get rid of that DEF crap soon.
@@paceta80 Heh...I called it DEP instead of DEF. I was watching a Pirates of the Caribbean video & I guess I couldn't get DEP out of my head(as in Johnny). And I still spelled it wrong, should've been w/ two 'P's.
@@carmiethompson2676 lolz.
That's a Pete 388 if it's a short hood.
Zack8001 _ not true
@@Intellectualpropa rewatch the video and listen carefully he says 389 short hood but the 388 was the short hood and 389 was only available as long hood.
Zack8001 _ I have a 389 short hood car hauler 2020
They should have never put the DPF system on trucks until they knew what the hell they were doing
Dont the short hood 389 have the nuts on the back of the steer to where u can adjust your steering just like the extended hood 379s? Also my thing is why did u even buy a short hood 389 anyway???
Yes they do, however it's a company truck so um not allowed to modify it. But the pitman arm is shorter so its limited there too.
Tips 4 truckers lol fuck that shit, maaaan modify it and keep it moving lol! Me personally i hate the short hoods and now that i know this about short hoods I definitely dont care for them!
Ok so this comment is void sense now I know that its a company truck not yours
So it’s a 388 the. Not a 389
I hate def fuel
Don't batch about your truck I don't care if shorthand or Longwood don't bitchabout it kw wva😢
Let’s just be honest here. The touchscreen radios on these trucks are super nice but they’re slow af! 😂
It's usually a cheap third party crap from China with a decade old software
That's a 388
Lotta preachin to the choir goin on.🤔
Paccar is ah gutless sorry engine Cummins anyday.
I beg to differ
@@victorbernier4765 every person is entitled to there own opinion! It's all personal preference.
Ext it is then
Knock out the steering stops and problem solved
388 bro
You just made me not want to buy one
Short hood = fail.
Seriously it is the worst engine everyone I know that made the mistake of buy a truck with that engine has had nothing but problems with it period!!!!!!
Cummins X15 or Paccar
@@joshsuperduty1270 The MX-13 have a way better milage per gallon. It's a powerful engine. Take a look here: ruclips.net/video/NeDvNjfwWF8/видео.html
I had one a 2020 for over a year and no problem with it.
OMG just buy an extended hood then 🤦🏾
Company truck
@@tips4truckers252 lol I dont mind the short hood, my truck still breaks necks and gets attention from other owner op's. I'm surprised you had such problems with your mx13, I've run cat's, detroits, and have a cummins in my truck but the paccar mx13 that was in my company truck was easily the most reliable engine I've ever run, I was never in the shop. I know the mx13 will make a million miles I've seen it a few times already my cummins definitely wont tho.
@@robbalinski1606 The old things like Cummins and Detroit Diesel is what most people trust. The MX-13 is a DAF engine developed in the Netherlands. PACCAR started to build DAF trucks in Brazil and no Peterbilt or Kenworth. One may ask himself why. DAF Trucks have DAF engines called PACCAR. For the 16 ton + market in Europe DAF is number two already for many many years.
DELETE IT!!!
Sounds like Donald Trump
Why don’t you delete the whole DEF system, it will increase your horsepower and save fuel
Crapcar engines look ugly as hell
Peter hasn’t built those trucks in decades.
I just got a 2020 389 sooooooo
@jadehelm288 0 unfortunately yes but I'm not paying for it and if it breaks down again peterbilt will pay my boss to put me up in a hotel and pay me my average salary
Just like last time lol
But this one will be purple stay tuned and sub for new videos every other day
