- After driving 2 PACCAR powered trucks, half a million miles. I have a good idea of the pros and cons.
check out "After Dark Kreations" for any custom truck accessory. air lift, custom dash, chicken lights, etc and high end tig welding. - Авто/Мото
The PACCAR engine blocks are compressed graphite instead of cast iron. That's where you save roughly 500lbs.
Exactly. Cummins has damn near just as much plastic on em these days.
Thanks man
Also on top of cgi block, some mx13 I believe epa 17, crankshaft has no counter weights.
Cool
I think you overlooked the most important thing of all ! If you get one mile more per gallon of fuel mileage, then think of the hundreds of thousands in savings on fuel , through your career! I would go with the fuel efficient and reliability of the paccar engine!
Great point
Totally agree on MPG. I had a Cummins and now Paccar. I avg 7.2 mpg at 80k lbs in the Rocky mountains!
Hell yeah
On paper or dash?
Also what the hell are u doing?
Coping?
True?
As it sit 5 to 5.5 regularly over 70k in mountains
Hey, appreciate your thoughts on the engine. Thanks for the video an the advice.
Not to be an ass but that plastic box on top of the egr is the air compressor feed line from the intake. The egr feeds into the intake at the front of the engine by the fan
thanks man. i usually do my videos unscripted so i miss some things. ill look into it
how do you clean the egr valve you were talking about?
Not sure. I always have it done at peterbilt
I remember my Cummins have plastic valve cover that keeps on cracking.
over torqued.
Great video but unfortunately Im looking for one engine after 1 million miles, not two engines combined miles, its not the same.
That is true. Wish i could give you a million mile review on 1 engine. But I have to say not even losing a quart of oil in 550k is impressive.
@@tips4truckers252 very informative at the same time, a good rundown of what to expect with a new paccar
That’s exactly why I only watched half the video
Like asking two 50 year olds what it’s like to live to 100.

The bigger shock is thinking they will get to a million without going broke first with emission related issues and dont get started the amount of plastic that breaks if you look at it the wrong way.
Totally you wouldn't believe how many critical parts are plastic and fail on it
While you may be right in some instances, don't forget composite materials is different than "plastic".
Totally
All these new engines with all emission bs suck, give me a 3406 e from mid to late 90’s anyday
havent seen many mx13s come in for a EGR cooler cleaning. injector failure and cam failures are lot more common
Thanks
It isnt the engine itself it is the frigging software and the fact that unless it is a dealer service is limited and the one I'm parked in has 750k and in the 8 months I have been dealing with it has not made a service interval without having to go to pete
Tell me about it. I had a code that they couldn't upload in their computer. Finally peterbilt took a swing and cleaned my egr fixed it.
2015 MX15
ANY GOOD?
My 2016 blew up with 700 miles on it. Then continued to have fuel issues next 100k
it doesn"t matter how good the motor is if you cann't get parts to fix it my truck has been down for a ecm 3 months and paccar cannt find one
Been there with a bunch of parts. Let alone diagnosing an issue is a crap shoot
If your dealership was concerned for you , they would taken one off their new trucks !
Wow thats terrible
Hello
Friends, I have a daf model 2020 mx13 engine, engine retard. Why does this engine damage the valve stem, and I have seen several cases that their valve stem also breaks quickly, and this is a weakness for this engine. Is this weakness due to the construction of this engine or is there a reason that causes this problem, please guide me, this is a problem. The second question is what type of oil is suitable for this engine.
Thanks
They recommend adjusting the valve lash every 100k miles. Hope this helps. Cheers

There all plastic or fiberglass now days
That sir is not your egr cooler and the cooler is not made of plastic.
Thanks I'll check it out. I don't edit my videos so I miss some things
I've been driving an MX 13 450 HP for almost a year. It sucks the diesel. The average is 5.2 MPG for normal roads( prairie and some hills)
I get 6 somehow driving 70 mph
I'm getting maybe 8.5 to 9
Do run heavy?
Yeah my Cummins ISX had 650hp and got. 6.5 mpg and Never smoked. It got totaled and I bought 2 2017 matching pete 579 tractors with Mx-13 engines,I run 80,000 or empty everywhere, and I get 4.93 mpg right now.
I had 1.6 million miles on my KW Cummins and I could accelerate from 70mph to 75mph pulling up hill fully loaded. These newer Paccars barely get out of their own way.
Company bought new freightliners with Detroit, prob worst experience ever as a driver, i never had a set truck because they would breakdown and stay in the shop for a month, last resort would be sent to the dealer for another 2 months😂
Crazy
I think plastic is not the main factor for saving weight of these engines. Daf Trucks whom design and manufacture these engines spend a lot of money in research and innovation.
For example use less components as much as possible in their engine, lighter alloys and (probably following Volvo's example) hollow camshafts instead of solid camshafts.
Great point
What year is this motor ?
2020
the fuel mileage your giving us here is completyl wrong. i am a fleet manager of 300 truck fleet with every single engine on the market. no one beats detriot. no beats a dd15 525hp paired with a dt12 automatic engine. not only does it blow everyone out of the water in fuel mileage but also in reliability. there is a good reason why all major carriers cant get enough of them.
We got them because they were dirt cheap. The 11 western states, the DD15 is getting 7 if you’re nice enough to keep your foot out of it and live at California speeds. Just like the Volvos - theyre a $90,000 truck and we get $55,000 back out of them at auction with 600,000 miles.
I never mentioned Detroit. Heard great things. Just saying my paccar gets 1 mpg more than my cat or Cummins
How anyone got more than 300k out of one of these things is beyond me.
600k on mine so far starting to notice it's not running as good
My old company ran paccars for 10 yrs, all got to 600k to 700k before they bought new trucks
@@213funnyp mine just hit 600k
@tips4truckers252 paccar is all I know, the 2015 which were the 1st yrs with def of course had some issues, but after the newer models came out they just kept getting better, so just bought a 579 with a paccar last week with 200k miles. Would you say about in the 500k range bigger repairs are expected? Thats what i noticed at my old company. Ik trucking it can happen whenever but im a average odds guy, so that how i play it.
you cant compare that engine to a CAT or even a cummins a Cat or Cummins will out pull that engine any day
Sure you can. They do just fine against their competitors.
Hey, let’s be honest people most of these engines don’t make it to 1,000,000 miles.!
Exactly about to get a new one
plastic....so what? We use our DAF in climate you guys never imagine there like -25...-30 degrees Celsius on winter and plus 30 degrees at summer times...so far we have no problems with plastic made deatils on engine
True
Nope ! If it ain’t 1 million miles ? Then it ain’t 1 million miles
True
Nice video but please driver it's a engine
DELETE ELITE
Totally
Most of the engines now have a lot of plastic components, I don't understand why people keeps talking about CAT, when they're out of the market.
because you can still get a truck with one. i have fund them to be common.
Because they will run in circles around a paccar or isx forever. A 3406e/c-15 is the best damn engine any company has churned out. A million miles at least in between rebuilds, they only have around 6 sensors, plenty power and low end torque, and reliable as fuck. Parts are also cheaper.
Cat isn't out of the market completely they are offering a engine overhaul on trucks today you have to donate your motor and they will drop in a new cat motor not today new just a block of an older cat that has been refreshed up look into it they will swap any motor for a cat motor you have to call some number and do an order there is a waiting list too
Nothing wrong with the motors it's the Tyrannical Government /EPA that the failure period!
My brother had one what a piece of shit good mileage until it falls apart literally the block head crumbling junk stay away from
Same. Great milage till they fall apart
