Nicely done! Thank you for making this. Most definitely a very powerful tool and worth the price tag for larger shops but, I would have to agree that $100 a month is a bit pricey for folk whom are looking to incorporate this into their streams. It would be great to see a lower tier plan for social media or presentation platforms - RUclips, Zoom and the like. Even cutting the price in half would be more palatable.
I just started Singular.live 3 weeks ago. They support schools I am a college teacher back to new semester online classes tomorrow. Singular.live is excellent - it adds some functionality to an online class. They have been very helpful and supportive to me. Alex - my Atem mini pro still waiting for delivery. Glad to see your down key. I have been learning OBS for last 3 weeks and cannot get my testing stream quality up yet. I have the upload power on internet cannot get it going yet. I have learned a lot from your tutorials. Thank you.

@@AlexPettitt ha ha I bought the bmpcc 4k - just arrived. I am just slowly putting it all together...Fall semester likely online so I will try to create a more virtual classroom by September. I did online boot camps in 2015 but the Singular.live overlays are new and so will be 2 cameras and a switcher and a few other things to update to 2020. I bought a Streamdeck last week. Best device in the world for a teacher who is both an online operator and presenter. Between the playlist, auto advance and loop on Singular + Streamdeck + OBS scenes set up = a lot more autopilot. (I never heard of OBS until about a month ago) my green screen is coming this week 🤣😎. Keep up my lessons and thanks!

Currently using Singular to replace an archaic graphics platform that the US Track & Field industry still uses for timing. Data Streams for the win! But man it's a lot of work haha

However, Singular.live generously offer a free tier with just one single caveat. That watermark. If you're not making money with singular.live and cannot afford the pro tier they still offer the exact same functionality - with that discrete watermark. That is a pretty decent deal! Singular.live gets promoted by you and you get the free service. Win-win and with the 1 month free trial with the Pro tier I'm certainly not waiting around a minute more. Again - thanks Alex!
This was an amazing tutorial, thank you! You're very knowledgeable on Singular, but man that's a lot of work and a lot of money to get graphics to the ATEM Mini! It looks very professional and opens up a lot of possibilities but it looks like it will take several weeks to learn the navigation of Singular before I'm ready to actually use all of the features and that's rather discouraging.
If you don't need to edit your graphics live, it makes much more sense for you to bring your ATEM feed into OBS or Vmix and use those to add your graphics. It's very simple to throw a graphics overlay on in Vmix, and you'd only need the $60 USD HD version to accomplish this.
Sounds like Singular is a game changer. I was just wondering the best way of doing this, but was considering baking into animations and doing it in Apple Keynote, and just driving it off an iPad. But this is so much better. Expensive but I've not seen anything that does all of this before. Thanks for the tutorial

A big question for me is: Blackmagic doesn't recommend using HDMI cables over 12 feet. What do you use for long runs, HDMI fiber or something else? Thanks for all you do!
Use SDI via converters at the camera HDMI to SDI and back again at the Atem. SDI uses a single 75 ohm coax Kabel that transports audio and video in upto 4k. It's really worth the money up to 70 to 100 meters

how do you change the color for the DSK? I'd like to be able to use something other than black since many of my animations have black in them. Also, if you are using chroma key for a green screen background on say camera 1, how do make the chroma key automatically appear again when switching back to camera 1? When I switch to camera 2 or 3 and then go back to camera 1, its just me on a green screen and I have to manually press still and the key button
DSK is black only as it is a luma key, so if you want to key out another colour you’ll have to use the chroma Keyer in the Upstream key. as for the green screen, you’ll need to create a macro that cuts to camera one and turns the Keyer on. I’ll try cover this as a topic in my Macro series soon :)

Great vid. The quality of your stream is so good. Are you using the HDMI out of the ATEM into another capture card? And if so, which one? Or are you using the USB-C?
Hey Jerry, thanks very much for the comment. When I stream and record, I do that that directly on the ATEM. No external capture card or device needed :)
@@AlexPettitt Thanks Alex. My last stream with the ATEM mini pro didn't look that great. It wasn't my cams as the preview monitor looked great. But, I had to have the ATEM 20' feet away from the computer, so after unsuccessfully trying all types of USB C cable connectors that wouldn't allow it to be recognized, I was able to get it recognized if I used one cable with no connector (10') but the audio was out of sync and the image wasn't the best. I've now learned that 3 feet or less should help, so I'm going to have a laptop on stage with me (one man show, I control it all). I do have a Magewell 2nd Gen Plus capture card, and I was wondering if I give up the preview and use the HDMI out of the ATEM to the Magewell, if I'd get even better image results. What do you think? Have you tested this? Thanks again.

Do you know if Singular can work standalone without an internet connection? Reason I ask is sometimes I record live shows, but they are streamed later. Singular just wouldn't cut it in such circumstances if there was no internet. So does it rely on a live internet connection to work at all, or can it be run locally for a show without one?
Hello I use Singular.Live on my laptop. The laptop is connected to the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro via an HDMI cable. I'm using an extended desktop and a "Web Output" address has been added to the Google Chrome window. However, the graphics appear on a white background which prevents you from seeing the back image. What am I doing wrong?
I like SINGULAR LIVE and have been using it with OBS as a simple browser overlay and it's super easy to use. I want to come away from OBS and the ATEM mini pro would allow that to happen, but this seems a little complicated to get Singular working. Is there no way on the ATEM to use the Singular output as a browser overlay instead of needing to set it up as a 'camera view' as here? I do outside broadcasts and struggle to use several monitor views.

Hey Jordin, great question! Currently the Key Button on the ATEM Mini and ATEM Mini Pro is set to turn on and off the Upstream Key. This isn’t changeable annoyingly. The only way to turn in the DSK is via the software control :( Hopefully they make the Key button selectable in the future though :)
Alex, Do you think that you can take an iPad feed into the ATEM software and draw or write over a playing video live? Kind of like a telestrator using this method?
Building on this is there a way to set up an iPad as an input device and to be able to write multicolored text, much like Khan Academy, and place it on the screen next to talent. This will not be a picture in picture type of deal, but more of a key effect.

Hey Alistair, this was actually done in the post edit...but this could absolutely be done on the ATEM Mini Pro itself using Macro’s for example. I have a video coming out soon about Macro’s so will be sure to talk about how to do this type of setup in that video 👍

Hi Alex, Sure! Basically a fully offline way of playing footage during a lived edited offline session. Lower thirds, countdowns, small intro or similar type of reel. You had a device in an earlier video you had connected that did some sort of video playback but I don't think you went into much detail about that particular device. You did tell me however that I can just play a video from laptop output as second screen through hdmi but I was mostly looking for your most recommended way to do it for a fully offline, live edit, saved to drive as a finished uploadable product. Now I'm questioning if the Atem Mini Pro can even be used without internet at all. I was under the impression that it was.
Oh man...didn't get a chance to learn about this when you first made it. I am curious can you do a video on using files made in PS and if they can be "pushed" in and out using ATEM? I guess there may also be a way to just bring After Effects movie files in too right? Would you mind doing a video on that?
Good video and very well explained but is there a way to include the browser sources used in OBS? Apart from $100/month, I'd rather use the preview option in OBS, loop it into the Atem Pro via a dedicated HDMI output and start the stream that way. Encoding is done by the Atem Pro alone and the sound comes from a Go XLR via jack. Should work, right?!
Hey Gary, absolutely you can. Singulars output is an HTML Overlay...so can use it in software like OBS, VMix, Wirecast etc....or if you follow the method I've used in this video, it should work for any hardware mixer that has a luma keyer (or Chroma Keyer if you set the background to green and use that). Hope this helps!
Was waiting for this. Do you think I can use a mac mini or i7 macbook pro to run singular and ATEM controls together. I can't afford two computers at this time.
Yep, Singlar just runs in chroma so you’ll be able to run everything on one device perfectly fine. Just connect that device via HDMI to ATEM HDMI Input and then extend your display and put the output full screen on chrome. Works a charm 👍
Any tips or sources on how to actually bring in the comments? Because copy/pasting it while being live isn't really working, unless you have a person just for that. Thanks for the presentation though!
I do the copy / paste method for now but am working on a script in Singular to bring them in automatically too. Will post a How-To once that's up and running :)
Hey JT, bringing the graphics direct into the ATEM Mini Pro first means you can stream direct from the encoder rather than taking the feed to a computer and using OBS to stream :) that’s the main reason I go with this method, as quality will be best 👍

My question is if you can do everything in FCPx with the effects we have and shoot from another machine exactly as you are doing. FCPx makes it simpler for us, in addition to not having a monthly fee. lol Can you do it that way? and another, can you put more things on the screen, like QR code, etc? If you wanted to pre-render your GFX in FCP and then play them out, I see no reason why this wouldn’t work. It just means you can’t update stuff on the fly :)
Hi Alex, thanks for the helpful ATEM Mini [Pro] videos! I've watched them all, and searched the manual, but haven't been able to find a clear answer on advanced functionality with Wirecast (or OBS). Is it possible to feed the switched ATEM program into Wirecast (say, inputs 2-4, via USB), and then loop that back into the ATEM (say input 1) complete with additional inputs/video playback/bugs/lower thirds from Wirecast, and stream that out of the ATEM Ethernet port? I guess most basically, is what gets streamed out of the ATEM Ethernet "stuck" on program out, or do you know of a better solution to incorporate Wirecast as both a backup encoder/recorder and output the complete show from Wirecast through the ATEM Mini Pro encoder?
I want to bring graphics like lower thirds from obs into my atem mini pro but I already have 4 cameras coming into the atem. Is there a way to bring the graphics in without disconnecting one of the cameras and using my computer as an input to the atem?
I'm not sure if this would work, but try an HDMI switcher plugged into one of the inputs. Just make sure that you don't want to cut between any of the inputs on the switcher and you should get away with it. Also a very cheap way of extending the inputs beyond 4! But like I say, I haven't tried this

Quick question - how do you configure to livestream to youtube but keep the chat out from the broadcast but be able to monitor it so that you can choose and put into Singular.live ?
@@AlexPettitt I think I figured it out - I have seen some gamers chat where they show the chat - extracted from RUclips and put into the OBS scene as a browser. I just want the chat handy to extract comments and questions to Singular in - same as you are doing - but do not want my study group to see all the chat. I just need to have another screen open be broadcasting the scene that I want from OBS. I am hoping with the ATEM Mini Pro and the downstream key fro Singular that I can maybe get away from OBS - it freezes and crashes sometimes in my testing. I am only testing right now. Mini delivery is June for me (Vistek in Canada). Your videos have helped me tremendously.
Yes, Singular has built a stream deck integration that is in private beta currently. I'll try and get some information about when that will be available publicly....but yes, it's possible :)
I actually do a little hack an come directly out of the Mic’s headphone port on the side and take that into MIC1 on the ATEM Mini. That way, all you need is a stereo mini jack cable 👍
Great video, ridiculous price on the service. Absolutely no way that I could use this or recommend this to someone simply due to price. They need to get on board with changing the pricing profile.

The only way I can think of is by bring in your guests to your ATEM through one of the HDMI’s I don’t think you could use the request feature as like on Instagram for example
Awesome tutorial. I'd love to know how to set it up with comments and names being automatically pulled from RUclips so that you don't have to type up each comment before posting. Would it be possible to do a tutorial on that next?
This is such a difficult way of doing things and very much a thing that has come from the broadcastindustry. The streamers think in software, broadcast in hardware. I plug my ATEM into a laptop with vMIX (way cheaper one time deal then Singular.live) and use the graphics there + encoder + recording. No fussing with chrome/luma-keys, you can grab comments from RUclips, Facebook, Twitter with vMix Social (free addon) and if you really wanted you could also output with chromakeycollor to your ATEM using vMix. Way better workflow in my opinion.
thanks for sharing! it has really nice features. I hope that u can do a video about automation of this comments graphics. I saw another youtuber sharing a more easy and free way of doing this. Also with the left icon/photo in it by just opening the youtube chat and cliking on it. The only advantage I see, is that u can show youtube and facebook comments if your restreaming to both channels at the same time.

I use a product from NewBlueFX called Titler Live 4 Present to create the same graphics and live inserts from Twitter, etc. Check it out it is less than Singular Live but is an app installed locally.
Well, looking at their pricing 3 years later, I see that they are 100 bucks a month, or 1200 bucks a year. I can buy Cayman live for half that price and get to keep it. Assuming, of course, that Cayman Live still exists. :-) I'd still be able to use it, though, even if it didn't exist anymore. Buying is almost always better than renting.
Is anyone else tired of the "subscription" culture that's occurring? Can I not just buy a product and be done with it? You can't even buy videogames without buying a season pass or some subscription model like Nintendo or EA. I suppose, on the plus side, you could technically cancel your subscription month by month and then re-enable it when you get another gig, like if you're webstreaming for a wedding or a small conference... but that's about it. If you're a daily streamer, hope you're getting a lot of Google/Twitch/Subscriber money...

Hi Alex. I love your content! HOW would a person work-in an "instant replay" solution, e.g. for a gaming stream from PC? PS: I think I've found a dynamic workaround for instant and custom lower thirds, tickers, logos, text output AND .gif and/ or logo video clips etc.. with FREE software and OBS as an HDMI source input if you are interested to look at that.
Hey Alvin, not sure if you saw but there is a code on the description so you can get a free trial of the Pro. What I would say it does a hell of a lot more than lower thirds... it’s a full graphics engine with deep data integration too. It’s a professional grade broadcast package, so that why it’s priced as so :) Obviously there are other more basic graphics packages out there that you can apply this same method for the ATEM Mini to, but I wanted to show what I use personally, as thats what people asked for. 👍
@@AlexPettitt Yes I saw, the problem is you use for a month then you are back to square one or you start paying £100 per month for this - put in context, the entire Adobe suite of 50 apps is less than ½ of this. It's understandable for broadcast but not RUclips - maybe they need to give a RUclips specific license at a greatly reduced price... Just my 2 cents worth :-)
@@TomSykesMedia the problem with the H2R solution is that currently it doesn't work as a localhost overlay. So if you're running multiple overlay types, etc, then you're snookered. So I have overlays from Pixel Chat for example for new followers etc. This allows me to use that and these (as I have a piece of software that lets me input URLs and add them to one giant overlay). So this allows that software to put its own stuff on the overlay, as well as bringing in the overlays from Pixel Chat and Singular. The H2R solution... Well, won't work in that regard as there's no way to get it combined into that one giant overlay.
The ones I was using in that stream were indeed using the free tier of Singular. I’ve also provided a 1 month free code in the description of this video so you can try Singular Pro for even more features. Hope this helps

When I switch to camera 2 or 3 and then go back to camera 1, its just me on a green screen and I have to manually press still and the key button
DSK is black only as it is a luma key, so if you want to key out another colour you’ll have to use the chroma Keyer in the Upstream key.
as for the green screen, you’ll need to create a macro that cuts to camera one and turns the Keyer on. I’ll try cover this as a topic in my Macro series soon :)

Great vid. The quality of your stream is so good. Are you using the HDMI out of the ATEM into another capture card? And if so, which one? Or are you using the USB-C?

@@AlexPettitt Thanks Alex. My last stream with the ATEM mini pro didn't look that great. It wasn't my cams as the preview monitor looked great. But, I had to have the ATEM 20' feet away from the computer, so after unsuccessfully trying all types of USB C cable connectors that wouldn't allow it to be recognized, I was able to get it recognized if I used one cable with no connector (10') but the audio was out of sync and the image wasn't the best. I've now learned that 3 feet or less should help, so I'm going to have a laptop on stage with me (one man show, I control it all). I do have a Magewell 2nd Gen Plus capture card, and I was wondering if I give up the preview and use the HDMI out of the ATEM to the Magewell, if I'd get even better image results. What do you think? Have you tested this? Thanks again.

Do you know if Singular can work standalone without an internet connection? Reason I ask is sometimes I record live shows, but they are streamed later. Singular just wouldn't cut it in such circumstances if there was no internet. So does it rely on a live internet connection to work at all, or can it be run locally for a show without one?

I use Singular.Live on my laptop. The laptop is connected to the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro via an HDMI cable. I'm using an extended desktop and a "Web Output" address has been added to the Google Chrome window. However, the graphics appear on a white background which prevents you from seeing the back image. What am I doing wrong?

I like SINGULAR LIVE and have been using it with OBS as a simple browser overlay and it's super easy to use.
I want to come away from OBS and the ATEM mini pro would allow that to happen, but this seems a little complicated to get Singular working. Is there no way on the ATEM to use the Singular output as a browser overlay instead of needing to set it up as a 'camera view' as here? I do outside broadcasts and struggle to use several monitor views.

Yea you absolutely can do this with Singular. They even have a Google Sheets widget to help :)

Hey Jordin, great question! Currently the Key Button on the ATEM Mini and ATEM Mini Pro is set to turn on and off the Upstream Key. This isn’t changeable annoyingly. The only way to turn in the DSK is via the software control :( Hopefully they make the Key button selectable in the future though :)

Alex, Do you think that you can take an iPad feed into the ATEM software and draw or write over a playing video live? Kind of like a telestrator using this method?
Building on this is there a way to set up an iPad as an input device and to be able to write multicolored text, much like Khan Academy, and place it on the screen next to talent. This will not be a picture in picture type of deal, but more of a key effect.

Sure! Basically a fully offline way of playing footage during a lived edited offline session. Lower thirds, countdowns, small intro or similar type of reel. You had a device in an earlier video you had connected that did some sort of video playback but I don't think you went into much detail about that particular device.
You did tell me however that I can just play a video from laptop output as second screen through hdmi but I was mostly looking for your most recommended way to do it for a fully offline, live edit, saved to drive as a finished uploadable product.
Now I'm questioning if the Atem Mini Pro can even be used without internet at all. I was under the impression that it was.
Oh man...didn't get a chance to learn about this when you first made it. I am curious can you do a video on using files made in PS and if they can be "pushed" in and out using ATEM? I guess there may also be a way to just bring After Effects movie files in too right? Would you mind doing a video on that?

Apart from $100/month, I'd rather use the preview option in OBS, loop it into the Atem Pro via a dedicated HDMI output and start the stream that way. Encoding is done by the Atem Pro alone and the sound comes from a Go XLR via jack.

Hey Gary, absolutely you can. Singulars output is an HTML Overlay...so can use it in software like OBS, VMix, Wirecast etc....or if you follow the method I've used in this video, it should work for any hardware mixer that has a luma keyer (or Chroma Keyer if you set the background to green and use that). Yep, Singlar just runs in chroma so you’ll be able to run everything on one device perfectly fine. Just connect that device via HDMI to ATEM HDMI Input and then extend your display and put the output full screen on chrome. Works a charm 👍

Hey JT, bringing the graphics direct into the ATEM Mini Pro first means you can stream direct from the encoder rather than taking the feed to a computer and using OBS to stream :) that’s the main reason I go with this method, as quality will be best 👍

If you wanted to pre-render your GFX in FCP and then play them out, I see no reason why this wouldn’t work. It just means you can’t update stuff on the fly :)
Hi Alex, thanks for the helpful ATEM Mini [Pro] videos! I've watched them all, and searched the manual, but haven't been able to find a clear answer on advanced functionality with Wirecast (or OBS). Is it possible to feed the switched ATEM program into Wirecast (say, inputs 2-4, via USB), and then loop that back into the ATEM (say input 1) complete with additional inputs/video playback/bugs/lower thirds from Wirecast, and stream that out of the ATEM Ethernet port? I guess most basically, is what gets streamed out of the ATEM Ethernet "stuck" on program out, or do you know of a better solution to incorporate Wirecast as both a backup encoder/recorder and output the complete show from Wirecast through the ATEM Mini Pro encoder?
How come they think 100 dollars/month is a reasonable price, when much more advanced programs like Premiere Pro costs around 20 dollars a month?

I want to bring graphics like lower thirds from obs into my atem mini pro but I already have 4 cameras coming into the atem. Is there a way to bring the graphics in without disconnecting one of the cameras and using my computer as an input to the atem?
I'm not sure if this would work, but try an HDMI switcher plugged into one of the inputs. Just make sure that you don't want to cut between any of the inputs on the switcher and you should get away with it. Also a very cheap way of extending the inputs beyond 4! But like I say, I haven't tried this

Eric that lens is MFT so no need to lens adaptor if you have a BMPCC4K, if you have a 6K go for the Canon EF alternative which is the 50mm f1.8

It's quite easy actually. There's a lighting to HDMI adapter which allows the tablet to be powered as well.

@@AlexPettitt I think I figured it out - I have seen some gamers chat where they show the chat - extracted from RUclips and put into the OBS scene as a browser. I just want the chat handy to extract comments and questions to Singular in - same as you are doing - but do not want my study group to see all the chat. I just need to have another screen open be broadcasting the scene that I want from OBS. I am hoping with the ATEM Mini Pro and the downstream key fro Singular that I can maybe get away from OBS - it freezes and crashes sometimes in my testing. I am only testing right now. Mini delivery is June for me (Vistek in Canada). Your videos have helped me tremendously.

I actually do a little hack an come directly out of the Mic’s headphone port on the side and take that into MIC1 on the ATEM Mini. That way, all you need is a stereo mini jack cable 👍

Have you tried the 'Blue Screen' color?
This is such a difficult way of doing things and very much a thing that has come from the broadcastindustry. The streamers think in software, broadcast in hardware. I plug my ATEM into a laptop with vMIX (way cheaper one time deal then Singular.live) and use the graphics there + encoder + recording. No fussing with chrome/luma-keys, you can grab comments from RUclips, Facebook, Twitter with vMix Social (free addon) and if you really wanted you could also output with chromakeycollor to your ATEM using vMix. Way better workflow in my opinion.
thanks for sharing! it has really nice features. I hope that u can do a video about automation of this comments graphics. I saw another youtuber sharing a more easy and free way of doing this. Also with the left icon/photo in it by just opening the youtube chat and cliking on it. The only advantage I see, is that u can show youtube and facebook comments if your restreaming to both channels at the same time.

Yeah, too pricey for my limited budget.
I use a product from NewBlueFX called Titler Live 4 Present to create the same graphics and live inserts from Twitter, etc. Check it out it is less than Singular Live but is an app installed locally.
Well, looking at their pricing 3 years later, I see that they are 100 bucks a month, or 1200 bucks a year. I can buy Cayman live for half that price and get to keep it. Assuming, of course, that Cayman Live still exists. :-) I'd still be able to use it, though, even if it didn't exist anymore. Buying is almost always better than renting.

Is anyone else tired of the "subscription" culture that's occurring? Can I not just buy a product and be done with it? You can't even buy videogames without buying a season pass or some subscription model like Nintendo or EA. I suppose, on the plus side, you could technically cancel your subscription month by month and then re-enable it when you get another gig, like if you're webstreaming for a wedding or a small conference... but that's about it. If you're a daily streamer, hope you're getting a lot of Google/Twitch/Subscriber money...

PS: I think I've found a dynamic workaround for instant and custom lower thirds, tickers, logos, text output AND .gif and/ or logo video clips etc.. with FREE software and OBS as an HDMI source input if you are interested to look at that.

Hey Alvin, not sure if you saw but there is a code on the description so you can get a free trial of the Pro. What I would say it does a hell of a lot more than lower thirds... it’s a full graphics engine with deep data integration too. It’s a professional grade broadcast package, so that why it’s priced as so :) Obviously there are other more basic graphics packages out there that you can apply this same method for the ATEM Mini to, but I wanted to show what I use personally, as thats what people asked for. 👍

It's understandable for broadcast but not RUclips - maybe they need to give a RUclips specific license at a greatly reduced price...

@@TomSykesMedia the problem with the H2R solution is that currently it doesn't work as a localhost overlay. So if you're running multiple overlay types, etc, then you're snookered. So I have overlays from Pixel Chat for example for new followers etc. This allows me to use that and these (as I have a piece of software that lets me input URLs and add them to one giant overlay). So this allows that software to put its own stuff on the overlay, as well as bringing in the overlays from Pixel Chat and Singular. The H2R solution... Well, won't work in that regard as there's no way to get it combined into that one giant overlay.
