A few tricky bits to watch out for: Make sure your audio goes into your camera and from there into the computer, HDMI will otherwise give you a delay. Also, if you also share a screen and your system audio, get a mix-minus set up for your participants, otherwise they will hear themselves echo.
@@droopydog500on your audio mixer: - use AUX sends to send all of your desired audio feeds (mics, laptop audio, etc) to the Zoom conference call EXCEPT (minus) the Zoom audio coming back to you from the far end. - use your audio mixer main outputs to provide a separate audio mix to your live audio speaker system for your In-Room participants.
I have connected the ATEM Mini to vMix and used vMix output as my Zoom camera in. Worked great. VMix can also display the current output on a screen, if you have a two or three screens connected to your PC. Doing that lets you do a screen share in Zoom which shows the vMix/OBS output. This allow you to combine all the features of the ATEM and vMix/OBS. 😁
I didn't have a USB-C to USB-C cable handy, only a USB-C to HDMI and HDMI to USB-C cable. After I connected those two cables (webcam out to Macbook), my Macbook didn't read my ATEM Mini. I guess I need a straight USB-C to USB-C from the Mini to my Macbook. Thanks for showing that setup. It really helped me.
This is a great method. The way I've done it is by using my laptop webcam so the person I'm talking to sees that, then I use the ATEM mini pro PIP to overlay over the top of the little video window zoom shows of yourself talking using the laptop webcam. Then I can record directly out of the USB C port. The nice thing about this is it's simpler, the bad thing is the person I'm talking to sees a terrible webcam video feed of myself instead of a nice looking feed. BUT.... I've worked around that by using a 5D mk IV I typically only use as a stills camera and the new EOS webcam utility to use my 5D as the webcam so the person I'm talking to still has a nice image.

Are you getting HD with Zoom right now? We have a paid Pro account with the Webinar addon, and have enabled HD both at the camera settings in Zoom and on the account settings on their website, but when we connect a camera to usb and check stats it says 640x360. I contacted their support and they replied that "in order to conserve internet bandwidth and to assure that our global networks are being utilized the best during these unprecedented times, we have been required to lower the quality of videos during Zoom Meetings hosted on your desktop or mobile device. Fortunately, standard video capabilities will still remain in place. That's why the resolution is at that quality right now."
I’m experimenting with an HDMI splitter from my camera feeding into a capture card and using OBS’s virtual camera as my zoom source and using the ATEM mini pro to broadcast, so the people I’m chatting with on zoom get a cam that’s useful for them, and the stream audience gets another. Frees up the USB port for recording too.
i always use voice through HDMI to make sure video and voice are in sync. Too high resolution may cause zoom consume a lot of CPU cycle so HD call may not good for long call.
Do you have a video that shows (when you're live streaming) how to have your screen AND your camera on the screen for training and seminars using the ATEM Mini Pro?
This is excellent. I'm gearing up to do some live performances on Zoom and was wondering how to get a better quality recording. Now I know at least one excellent way.
@@bsetbeauty No. I am using a DSLR Canon Camera and feeding it to Zoom using Ecamm Live's Virtual webcam and then using a USB Audio Interface for my sound. I suspect I will not need an ATEM Mini for my needs. That seems to be working okay.
Has anyone else run into the problem where the mini pro will connect fine to the Mac, the audio feed will show up in Zoom but the camera feed will only show your Facetime camera as an option in settings. It seems random and sometimes just fixes itself, but if anyone has a definitive solution would appreciate sharing. I don’t have any other apps using webcam running.
Hello, Thank you for another great video. I have the Atem mini pro, and the same Rode USB mic, please advise how to use it or what channel you have yours plug into it sounds great. Thanks
Great video - *very* useful - thank you! ..quick cheeky question: can i ask what you are using to achieve the red->magenta lighting hue behind you?? it's very effective 👍
Great video! I'm curious as to why you record with OBS instead of direct to an attached SSD? Also, I would love to see a video about getting a guest to show up as I am interested in using this for a live show where I interview guests via Zoom or some other provider.
Video re incorporating high quality guests will hopefully be up soon :) but to answer your question RE SSD, it’s because I’m using the USB C port for the webcam output to my Mac for Zoom, so you can’t record to a hard drive from the USB C at the same time sadly
@@AlexPettitt I have the same question regarding calling on Zoom while recording on SSD. Of course this can't be done normally by using just the ATEM Mini pro ISO but... I was wondering if I can use the new Atem Streaming Bridge to convert the ethernet signal in HDMI out and feed this back into my laptop with my magewell HDMI to USB, would this work? Thanks for these amazing videos by the way! Just subscribed
Hi Alex, Thanks that was a very informative video. Have you figured out how to stream a zoom meeting with multiple participants in addition to streaming yourself
Excellent. if anybody wants to record Zoom meeting for all ,just add display capture in OBS not the video capture. That way laptop display will be record in OBS.
Thanks for the informative video. Instead of using OBS setup for the recording, why are you not using ScreenFlow, which I see you use it to record the video tutorials? What is the difference? ScreenFlow records whatever is on screen. This allows to use the ATM USB3-C to internally record the Multicam, and ScreenFlow the program out at higher bit rate and Codecs.
Best microphone to use? I see your R0DE NT-USB, are you feeding that to your MAC/PC and then back out into the ATEM Mic 1 or 2? Is there 3.5mm Mic (or XLR) to go direct to the ATEM? What's your recommendation? A video on mic choice, types, etc. would be awesome. I don't believe you have one unless I missed it. Thanks for your vid's - Excellent!
Thx for the tutorial! Zoom is obviously reducing the resolution of the webcam input. I came acorss the issue when using Powerpoint presentation. When I share it directly in Zoom, it has good resolution. When I feed it from an extra Notebook through the ATEM mini it gets reduced in resolution. The output resolution from the ATEM mini is still ok at HD. But the viewers in the Zoom webinar get a much lower resolution. Does someone have a fix to that?
Thanks. This has been very helpful. I wish this was available when others were saying you couldn't use an external camera with Zoom and stream live church services. I have OBS and ATEM mini pro running with castr.io for Facebook Live and You Tube. But many in our congregation don't have a Facebook account.
I have the ATEM Mini Pro ISO connected to my Mac with a long USB 3.0 cable (4 meter) and using an adapter at the ATEM for the USB C out. It's not working. Have you found that longer cables don't work or should I be using a longer USB-C cable and an adapter at the computer end? I don't have USB-C into my Mac, so I have to get the input from the ATEM to a USB 3.0 type.
Zoom will do a maximum of 30fps so it will just drop every other frame if you select 50fps. The a6100 only does either 24fps or 60fps in North America. The HDMI output on the Sony should be set to 24fps and the output on the Atem should be set to 23.98. NTSC/PAL might be slightly different, but certainly don’t select a higher FPS than what Zoom will max out as.
great video! i'd love to see more regarding how to implement graphics and pre-roll for example. Is it possible to stream the zoom participants as well?
Hey Allie, it’s because I was using the USB-C to send a feed to my Mac for the Zoom call, so with the USB-C already in use, you can not plug a Hard drive into it for recording, so best way to record is via software on the same Pc/Mac
@@AlexPettitt Just to clarify your point here. If you're using the ATEM Mini Pro ISO and using your USB-C to connect the switcher to your laptop, this will means you're unable to record each angle independently correct? I don't believe OBS allows for that and only captures the switched stream output. This is a major flaw with the design and something I hope BMD addresses in their next model. Having two USB-C outputs would be massively helpful. Any wisdom on this, Alex? I'd love to hear your take.
@@AlexPettitt Could you use an USB-C Hub to get the signal out to connect the Atem to the Mac and at the same time record on a hard drive? have you tried it?
Hi Alex. Thanks for this. I’ve been putting off diving into all this for a while, and it seems today is the day! I like your presentation style and videos, and might have to schedule a 1 on 1 with you soon. Cheers from Australia
I have the Atem Mini, with multiple cameras this is a great way to do online learning sessions as well as Zoom calls. One thing I noticed is your camera is to the right of your screen, which forces you to look at the camera if you want the viewer to feel like they have "eye contact" with you, but you can't see their face so clearly... have you ever tried other positions, or do you have any other tips for maintaining eye contact?
I had been expecting all sorts of problems with delay with audio into the mic inputs. However, everything looks perfectly in sync. My camera is a C100 mkII so maybe that helps. I have audio from a Sound Devices Mix Pre-D going into input 1. Lip sync is perfect.
@@AlexPettitt How do you have your vocal mic that is on the boom arm with popper stopper going into the ATEM mini-pro? Does that mic have an 1/8th inch TRS plug? Thank for the great videos! steve ps - my mini-pro arrived about a week ago : - )
Hello Alex- I am loving your videos- but am jealous I can't get my Atem Mini to work the way it does for you I am experiencing an audio video sync issue with the new ATEM Mini and a Macbook pro 2017 (Catalina 10.15.4) and a Panasonic Lumix G95 as my camera with a rod lav mic. The USB-C webcam video (out of the Atem Mini) is 1.5-2 seconds late into the computer and out of sync with the audio. What I see on the screen (eg via the zoom window is upto 2 sec behind and the sound is also out of sync for me and my participants). So the whole thing is problematic for me. Even the recording is out of sync. I used Quicktime to test it it and record, the lag is still present (1.5-2 secs) between what I am doing and what is on the screen- but when I watch the recording everything is in sync. So at least I know everything 'can' work. But why the lag and latency when I am using it as a webcam? I have tried different cables, different settings etc and feel like I am running around in circles. It's not proving to be plug and play for me ;) I am really confused, and frustrated- Do you or any of your awesome subs have any ideas? Is it a cable thing? A software thing? Or..? I'd really love some help!
Best thing to do it run your audio/mic into your camera, then run that into the ATEM. That way it will arrive at the same time into your switcher. Hope that helps!
Brilliant Alex. The thing is... Set up just like you say, coming out of the ATEM Mini Pro into the computer when monitoring OBS from the computer the audio is delayed some and the video is even more delayed. Is that because I'm using a very low spec MacBook Air? Recording looks good at bit rate 2500 kbps but audio and video are out of sync withe audio first of course. (P.S. I've integrated my entire 3 camera set-up built around the ATEM Mini Pro on many Skype and Zoom meetings and it's been working great.)
@@AlexPettitt Thank you, Alex. I've tried adding audio delay...no effect. I think that only has an effect if audio and video are coming from separate sources and using OBS as the encoder. Still digging the hair, mate!
Maybe try opening up QuickTime and recording in there. Or even better, try recording to a USB-C drive using the ATEM Mini Pro recorder. Then, check if that file is in sync. If it is, you know that the ATEM Mini Pro is fine, so the issue is with your MacBook. If it’s not in sync on the ATEM Recording, then that means that there is a sync issue with your audio/video sources :)
@@AlexPettitt Thank you Alex...Sorry I should have said...everything is fine with recording USB-C out to an external HD...beautiful video and audio and totally in sync. I will try recording to QuickTime, that's a good idea. I think the OBS issue is my weak MacBook Air. I'm going to be getting a fully powered 2015 MacBook Pro at some point BUT if I don't use multi view during an event production, which I don't really need, I can record beautiful video (totally in sync) with my Avermedia Live Gamer Portable as I split the ATEM Mini Pro HDMI out to video monitor with a splitter...works great! (I use the Mini Pro USB-C out to connect to computer for ATEM Mini Pro control software and I use ATEM Mini Pro ethernet out to my router or travel router on gigs for internet streaming and so my MacBook Air can have wifi internet for live internet websites as a program source into HDMI input 4 of the Mini Pro. Things will be a smoother and less work-aroundish when I get a second computer...and this MacBook Air will be for graphics source only.) Cheers, Mate!

Great video! Really showed me a few things I had been trying to figure out!
Your tutorias are just great. When can I buy those equipments?
Hey man, great video! Question though, how are you running that Rode NT-USB through the ATEM Mini?? Isn't the mic input a 3.5 jack??
I double that question!
This is very helpful! I wonder how to set up the ATEM mini extreme iso for an hybrid conference with remote guests participating in a zoom session.
i always use voice through HDMI to make sure video and voice are in sync. Too high resolution may cause zoom consume a lot of CPU cycle so HD call may not good for long call.
Solid vid man, big help. Thanks from Texas!!
Do you have a video that shows (when you're live streaming) how to have your screen AND your camera on the screen for training and seminars using the ATEM Mini Pro?
Thank you Alex !
This is excellent. I'm gearing up to do some live performances on Zoom and was wondering how to get a better quality recording. Now I know at least one excellent way.
Hey Craig, did you try this product with LIVE stream on Zoom yet? please I will appreciate your reply.
@@bsetbeauty No. I am using a DSLR Canon Camera and feeding it to Zoom using Ecamm Live's Virtual webcam and then using a USB Audio Interface for my sound. I suspect I will not need an ATEM Mini for my needs. That seems to be working okay.
you are amazing , thank you too much Alex
Fantastic! This is just what I was wanting to know. Thanks for such a great video.
Great tips. Thanks. Which microphone are you using and how do you connect it to the ATEM Mini?
Has anyone else run into the problem where the mini pro will connect fine to the Mac, the audio feed will show up in Zoom but the camera feed will only show your Facetime camera as an option in settings. It seems random and sometimes just fixes itself, but if anyone has a definitive solution would appreciate sharing. I don’t have any other apps using webcam running.
Thank you for this, very well explained
Hi Alex ..always excellent tutorials! Thank you.
super great explained!!!
Thank you tutorial hopefully his knowledge can be learned. The resource.
Hello, Thank you for another great video. I have the Atem mini pro, and the same Rode USB mic, please advise how to use it or what channel you have yours plug into it sounds great. Thanks
I double that. Do you feed your Rods NT into Atem somehow?
Yea, trying to figure it out a way to use Rode NT USB without OBS... to stream/record is it possible?
Great video - *very* useful - thank you! ..quick cheeky question: can i ask what you are using to achieve the red->magenta lighting hue behind you?? it's very effective 👍
Great video! I'm curious as to why you record with OBS instead of direct to an attached SSD? Also, I would love to see a video about getting a guest to show up as I am interested in using this for a live show where I interview guests via Zoom or some other provider.
I'm interested in the same thing!
Great video exactly what I was looking for. I plan to do a setup similar to this
thank you so much for this!!!
Excellent video 👏
Hi Alex, Thanks that was a very informative video. Have you figured out how to stream a zoom meeting with multiple participants in addition to streaming yourself
Excellent. if anybody wants to record Zoom meeting for all ,just add display capture in OBS not the video capture. That way laptop display will be record in OBS.
Thanks for the informative video.
Instead of using OBS setup for the recording, why are you not using ScreenFlow, which I see you use it to record the video tutorials? What is the difference?
ScreenFlow records whatever is on screen. This allows to use the ATM USB3-C to internally record the Multicam, and ScreenFlow the program out at higher bit rate and Codecs.
dude killer! thank you!!
You don't need to open obs to record on zoom while u stream live, u can record straight from zoom I do my podcast live on fb every week.
Very useful information. Thank you
This is great stuff Alex, thanks for the info.
This was super helpful thanks
Awesome video. Thank you.
great video! i'd love to see more regarding how to implement graphics and pre-roll for example. Is it possible to stream the zoom participants as well?
Question: why are you using OBS to record the feed rather than the usb out to direct record to a hard drive from the Atem Pro?
@@pinnaclephoto The ATEM Mini Pro ISO does this. There are three versions of the ATEM Mini.
I believe you can use a USB hub so you can use the hub to output to zoom and record to a portable drive
awesome ... tanks mate ..!
I had been expecting all sorts of problems with delay with audio into the mic inputs. However, everything looks perfectly in sync. My camera is a C100 mkII so maybe that helps. I have audio from a Sound Devices Mix Pre-D going into input 1. Lip sync is perfect.
Really glad to hear all is working well for you 👍
@@AlexPettitt How do you have your vocal mic that is on the boom arm with popper stopper going into the ATEM mini-pro? Does that mic have an 1/8th inch TRS plug? Thank for the great videos! steve ps - my mini-pro arrived about a week ago : - )
ps .. I would also like to understand how to show other participants in a live stream. Thanks
You can do it use it doing obs
Use window capture on obs
He just showed you only he did not have any participants on his call.
love this tips bro
Any chance we can see a video on doing all of this while recording all 5 iso channels on the atem mini pro iso?
I don't think this is possible. I worked this out having already purchased the device.
Thanx it’s really helpful
Hello Alex- I am loving your videos- but am jealous I can't get my Atem Mini to work the way it does for you
I am experiencing an audio video sync issue with the new ATEM Mini and a Macbook pro 2017 (Catalina 10.15.4) and a Panasonic Lumix G95 as my camera with a rod lav mic.
It's not proving to be plug and play for me ;)
I am really confused, and frustrated- Do you or any of your awesome subs have any ideas? Is it a cable thing? A software thing? Or..?
I'd really love some help!
Best thing to do it run your audio/mic into your camera, then run that into the ATEM. That way it will arrive at the same time into your switcher. Hope that helps!
Love black magic mini pro
Brilliant Alex. The thing is... Set up just like you say, coming out of the ATEM Mini Pro into the computer when monitoring OBS from the computer the audio is delayed some and the video is even more delayed. Is that because I'm using a very low spec MacBook Air? Recording looks good at bit rate 2500 kbps but audio and video are out of sync withe audio first of course. (P.S. I've integrated my entire 3 camera set-up built around the ATEM Mini Pro on many Skype and Zoom meetings and it's been working great.)
It could be to do with your MacBook Air. You could try adding an audio delay in OBS to match the two
@@AlexPettitt Thank you, Alex.
