The Patrol could do with the Lokka for the front diff. Cheapish mod, easy to put in and would definitely help overcome the leaf hangers. Just what I would do. Good to see you guys getting out and having fun especially while being restricted 👍
Good to see some young blokes out having a good time and treating the tracks well. Smart move avoiding that mud pit right at the start too. Love your content guys
The dampener don’t work that well mick ya see there’s 2 ends of the cable and the dampener only stops one from moving had a pice of wire cable that snapped come straight thru my windscreen and try give me a kiss and it had a dampener on it.. hopefully they make something better soon
My rescue squad's 1996 GQ (Y60) with TD42 just clicked over 86,000km today on the way back from a vertical rescue job. It's not quick, but it gets there every time.
Any thoughts on mounting the diffs under the leaves? Would give you lift and clearance . Also when your front diff open centres and throws the power to one wheel ,try tapping the brakes and it can help even out the distribution of power to both front wheels. Kinda like man powered traction control.its saved me a few times on the muddy clay.
Mounting the diffs under the leaves would give it a massive lift and you need to extend so many things and it would be impossible to engineer and therefore be very illegal. Would be easier with stock leaves and take a leaf or 2 out to sag it a bit but then you would need a way to mount the leaves to the axle so you need fabrication to be done on the diffs
Nice one boys. 👍 I too hate going through bog holes. I always avoid them, and I only go through them if there is no way around it or an alternative route. My 4WD is not a garage queen. It gets used as intended, but I do like to look after it, and I do like to keep it as clean as I can. Mud always make a mess in the engine bay of my LC80, and as you'd know it's a bugger to clean - especially bog mud. Loving the content of your channel. Keep it up. 👌
In terms of air compressors, I don't know if you guys have working ac, but you can actually convert your ac pump into an air compressor with just a few simple air line connectors, an inline oiler/moisture trap and some hoses! There's a few videos of people showing their systems off on here, might be worth a look!
I'm not familiar with Patrols (I'm a Cruiser man), but can you do a front coil conversation on the TD42, using GQ/GU Wagon components? Is that an easy mod? But whether it is or not, it's probably not a cheap mod. Another good episode gents.
could the patrol get inverted leaf hangers? moves the leafs to the top side of the diffs and means that the only thing hanging down is essentially your u bolts. i know its a fairly common mod on the ln106 hiluxs not too sure how it handles or what geomitry it changes as i haven't personally done it but might be something worth looking into :)
I reckon you boys should do a lsd shim install video on the ute, I put a .55 shim in my gq wagon (different diff I know) and it made all the difference plus the shim only cost $8 bucks at the time I did mine.
@@lachyparker5703 Road runner offraod. Of course there are other little associated costs like a new center carrier gasket/sealant, diff oil, crush washer and whilst you have the axles out you may as well replace the outer axle seals, oh and shipping of prior mentioned shim.
What tyre pressure are you running? I'd be down to about 10psi in that slop. Would you consider an axle modification and bolt the leaf springs on top of your axles rather than below?
Got an ARB high flow compressor with pump up kit, brand new in the box hanging around. Got 2 free with my diff locks, only need 1. Spose I should sell it.
Looking forward to seeing you guys in Toolangi/Kinglake if we cross paths boys, look out for a two tone blue/silver GQ and a white 80 on 35's with yellow spread lights on the rack :P
Cheap auto lokka or just weld the front diff works mint. Also can u get flip u bolt kit where plate is on top. Can get them on old Hilux. Possibly make something up?
Good call on mechanical sympathy especially when you are doing the work yourself…most folks don’t have sparesbox tagging along with an open cheque book 🤑
I’m thinking of getting a 1hz 80 or a na td42 gu. Mainly because in my opinion reliability is more important than power the less stuff that can go wrong the less that goes wrong. Right?
I'm so bloody keen to get back out on some tracks, especially now living around the qallan whittlsea area there's soooo many more places around! But as always top video! Most definitely need to invest in a front locker and some decent rubber in the patrol though! Keep up the good work guys
bloody great episode, I like how you guys do realist tracks, I agree about mechanical sympathy, I'm the same no way would I do the big tracks who wants to pay to fix that dmg you will no doubt get. sidenote: cheers for the stickers got mine the other day and representing on the rig now.
Don’t ya just luv the banter between Toyota owners and Nissan owners, but seriously to solve the hanger issue with the Patrol buy a Toyota 80 series. Cheers boys😂😂😂🤪😎👍

100% agree! Awesome work lads, heaps better then the million dollar team 🍻🙃
If you order it now you may get it before 2024
@@petercarruthers637 just got my lokka.. 6 months from Australia to dubai, UAE.. worths every minute of waiting

Thanks Karl! means alot!
Karl Ross. More like stuffing the tracks.
Hey lads make sure you use a dampener on the winch cable so that bloody thing doesn't come through your windscreen if it let's go 🤔
Yeah , we should of, laziness on our end.

@@mikezog1030 about 3000 mate.
Only gets driven to rescues and back.
Love this video boys both rigs are mint but, up the 80!! 🤘
Thanks Beau!!
Will never get sick of hearing TD42 sounds 🤤 keep it up lads !
Thanks mate!!
You should give some thought to taking out the lift in the patrol. And doing a leaf over diff swap. She would be a different car

I've had my 80from new since 1990and with factory diff-locks and never let me down. And mud chains if needed in case. Great job 👍 boys.
I reckon send the leaf over axle method, went that way in my rodeo 🤷🏽♂️. Love the video guys.

very cool!! tyre pressure + hi range / low range combination.. can't wait to see the bigger trips !

Hi guys. Isn't it good to get out of lockdown and hit some tracks. Keep up the good work. MP
The 80 is awesome as expected!!!
Where’s old mate in the black GQ been? Havnt seen him in a video for ages
I was thinking the same thing
Great vid, you boys definitely need to do big like 1 hour episodes like 4wd 247 and good ol camps and shit
Driver skills play the biggest part.

mount your compressors in the engine bays.dad did it in his 150 series prado. works great
Next video: Patrol gets dual wheel conversion (set up to remove for driving on road. And can be easily installed for off road)
Check out Air on board. They will have what you need
Awesome video boys need Dan with you and The other bloke that had the black patrol
Put ur diffs on the bottom of the leaf pack
Awesome video!
Should do a leaf over axle conversion my old 79 series had one fairly simple but might need engineering

I reckon you guys should make some aussie arvos door banners for the 80. And for the public.
** Leaf Clearance Hangers !!
I have a pair for sale that didn’t fit my Patrol mate.
Hey guys great video. 👍 have yous ever thought about modifying the diff so you can put the leafs on top of the diff?
Put the springs on top of the axles 👍👍
What a great comparison on Toyota and Nissan 🤦🏼♂️ 1 is a leaf sprung Ute the other a coil spring wagon

first mod should have been a snorkel hay
Yeah Mate
Man i wish we had tracks like this that are legal to drive. Just 15 k from home... i would have to leave the country to be allowed to do that.

At some point he did say he has installed a 1HDT 👍
i recon if you called superior you would probably have a decent chance of getting the leaf hangers pretty quickly
Coil conversion for the old poo roll??
Hey just finished watching your tyre and wheel vid , Patrick why don't you put your old wheels and tyres on Liam's until he gets new tyres 😎
We actually spoke about this, don't think it made it into the final edit! it would of been better traction but liam would of lost clearance
Does this mean you are gonna get muddies now? 🥲🤙🏼🤙🏼
Did u guys air down the tyre at all

Thanks Randell! no worries!
Liam chuck in 3" lift and 35 muddies
Is it illegal to do an axle conversion on the patrol? Like flipping the axle to make the leafs ride on top.
Yes unless engineered
Before even watching I’m saying patrol for starters it’s leaf springs so that’s my guess
Weird my ln106 has better clearance.. leafsprings sit ontop of the diff.. Toyota big brain things! Really nice track too!
I so wanna do this
But covid stopped my plans hahaha
What track was that
Not bad
Just get a tb42 carby chassis. And seap everything over
