    Hi, is there a clear protective coat one can use OVER...the chrome ..after it has been applied?...And how long should it be left to dry...before clear coating it? Please let me know..Thanks!..Rowland..

      Thanks for the comment, very good question. If you apply the clear you will loose that chrome effect hence the chrome should be applied as one of the last finishing touches👌

      I've found Alclad Clear Kote works really well for a protective coat that barely effects the chrome finish

      Future floor shine works and you lose 10% shine however it is very soft itself. If you apply future floor before a lacquer clear gloss it might work as a protective layer.

    These look great, I have a kit I'm working on with a fair amount I'd like to go for a chrome finish on but was a bit worried about control. I wouldnt mind trying these out and its great you can just switch it to a brushable medium for the bigger areas

    Informative video, thanks. Would the 2mm version or the 1mm version be better for painting the chrome trim around windows on 1/24 scale model cars? I'm thinking of going for the 1mm version but I'm worried it's too thin

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  4 года назад +1

      1mm is very think however it depends which parts you want to cover. May 2mm could be a better in between option👌

    I have a 1mm pen, but im getting troubles using it, i think the tip dried out
    Do you have any advice ?

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  Год назад

      If the tip has dried then the paint will not be able to flow through the tip fibres. Try soaking the tip in alcohol (IPA) to soften the dried paint and reinsert it into the pen. Hopefully the paint starts flowing again. Overwise, replacement tips can be purchased separately.

    Hi, could you use it on a fixed vertical surface? Or would the self-levelling aspect prevent that?

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  3 года назад +1

      Yes, Molotow will work on a vertical surface. The liquid is quite thick so it wont drip off but ii will move a little towards the bottom, depending on the thickness of the coat. The finish will still look as good as a level piece.

      Molotow works on many surfaces including metal. The chrome finish will rub off if handled.

    Just two questions, I have one of this pens but it dried up, is it possible to revive the paint? also if I had to dilute it which thinner can I use?

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  3 года назад +1

      Sorry, I don't think it can be relived after drying. It cleans up with alcohol based acrylic and lacquer thinner. You could try with those as you have nothing to lose.

      Molotow cannot be handled after application. It can be cleared with a good water-based gloss but it will lose some lustre Alcohol or lacquer based chromes can be handled. Checkout our video ruclips.net/video/7HTpUIBcHSo/видео.html

    Please turn off auto-focus and use manual focus - it's so frustrating seeing everything blurry!!! The pens look great and very beginner friendly. Thanks for the demo

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  4 года назад

      Thank you for the advise, focusing on reflective surfaces is harder and we are trying to show as much detail as we can be getting as close as possible however that means that we cant use manual focus. We are going to work on this aspect and you if you have any suggestion please let us know. For now we thought was best to have some content than none.

    Could this be used on a mirror that has lost some coating

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  2 года назад

      Yes it can but from the front side. Coating is using applied to the back of the glass and Molotow is designed to be viewed from the front. If you want to fix from the back then Alclad Chrome for polycarbonate will be the best bet as it is designed to be applied from the back with a black backing coat to seal.

    The Molotow Liquid Chrome refill may be great for airbrushing and has better reflection but when it get smudged it turns matte silver. I wonder why this happens a lot even letting it cure for weeks.

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  2 года назад +1

      Molotow does produce a stunning reflection but it cannot be handled. Many people confuse the soft nature of Molotow and think it has not cured when it remains soft after drying. If you must use Mototow you can seal it with Deluxe Materials "Looks like glass" clear. It will lose some lustre but can be handled.
      For a more robust chrome finish that can be handled use Alclad, SMS, or Greenstuff airbrushing chrome.

    In reality molotow liquid chrome is worst u need to wait 1year to fully dry the mirror effect

    • @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne
      @HearnsHobbiesMelbourne  3 года назад

      We have used the Molotow for some time now and it has needed at least a day to dry. Molotow chrome is not a durable surface as it loses chrome effect when handled. It should be the last finish to be applied and handled as little as possible.
