To this day, I can't stand to hear...Here I go Again. It was so overplayed in 87,88 that I was permanently burned out of it. Same thing with Sweet Child of Mine. I switch the station immediately when either of those songs come on the radio.
That was the best line up Whitesnake ever had. I seen them 2 times with Motley on the Girls Girls Girls tour! Was bad ass. WS Kicked some ass!
I liked John Sykes playing...He was laid it down as good as anyone!
This was definitely the peak time for all these bands. I saw Crue and Whitesnake in 87 in Phoenix Az. on Tommy Lee’s Birthday, his Drum kit had Happy Birthday on the bottom when he spun around... Kick A$$ times...
@@destinjetski5289 Are you living in Destin..If so thats crazy..i use to live in Tucson...I live in Crestview now and obviously spend time in Destin...Im going to look up Tommys birthday..I could be wrong.. I've seen them 2 times in Tucson and once in Phoenix...
so funny.
this interview made me go watch whitesnake live in 1987.
they all prace about on stage like ponies gyrating at everything and nothing at the sane time.
all except vivian. its really obvious he was on his way to bigger amd better things. dave playing with his mic like a penis. rudy licking and humping his bass, and other members pouting at the audience and rubbing themselves on their speaker... all was kinda normal then i guess ,yet vivian was just playing like an awesome frickin guitarist.
@@DevilTigermoth I like Vivian to and he was a perfect fit for Def Leppard. When your only 20 and partying and looking at rows of hot girls in spandex, Michael Bolton would have been good to see....Motley was really good...
Saw it at San Diego Sports Arena, Motley Crue Girls, Girls, Girls Whitesnake ST. Great Show! I was only 13 or 14. My Uncle had brought me to shows since 84.
Great guitar duo. Witnessed it. Just amazing. Campbell and Vanberg.
The soundtrack of my youth. Just loved WS, absolute Supergroup.
Very cool. This channel rocks man. ♥️🤘♥️
He's a nice guy it seems. Always loved his writing and guitar playing. ♥️🤘
He and Steve Vai were my favs after John Sykes left who was by far my fav. ♥️🤘
Olsen did a great job producing that album and that's what a producer does. He did excellent ... ♥️🤘
Great interview and thanks again.. ♥️🤘
The Vandenberg 2020 album is incredible! Great interview!
One good thing that's come out of the Covid pandemic is that it's given many artists, (Us common folks as well) time to reflect and delve into their pasts. I saw something with Vivian Campbell the other day. I knew who Vanderberg was from his solo work before he joined Whitesnake so it just made me more interested in the first album that he was on. One year later that album was playing everywhere I went.
Great interview. This is one of the best channels on RUclips. Thanks for posting. I am also subscribed to the podcast on my phone for my commutes to work in the morning. Great stuff. Thanks.
Thanks for listening, Michael. Glad you dig it.
I love the new Vandenburg album. There are no better interviews than the ones you do.
Thank you, Brian.
I was 16 and MAD AS HELl because The Mighty John Sykes was gone
More than 30 years later it strikes me as a stupid decision give the creativity he brought, and the success Whitesnake had due to his playing and presence
@@bathtubgeorge I think it’s been proven to be a stupid decision for everyone involved. Including FANS of all sides. But I do dig The Mighty John Sykes solo work
Coverdale is a douchebag
Best hard rock/80’s interviewer and channel 🤘
Love this channel …
Just stumbled on to it … keep ‘em coming bro!
I love your interviews! Thank you!!
Thank you for listening.
Saw that tour...it was incredible. Great great times back then.
David and Adrian knew each other for years before 1987. Still coopersting 20 years later
Sykes has no competition & is the Best Ever Guitarist whitesnake ever had!!!!!!!
Sykes abilities propelled the band to the next level.. Coverdale was a complete fool to oust that man
Two big egos that couldn't co exist
Amen
I ove the pic of them holding their gold records that they didn't play on. lol.
I saw them at Red Rocks; with Vai, and Bad English opened. That is a cool place to see a show; but, it usually rains, at some point.
I’ve always wanted to see a show there in fact Ozzy Osbourne filmed his video for changes there be sure and take a look at it it’s really cool
Yeah, we got drenched in '90 there at the Kiss/Slaughter show.
Nice when an interviewer knows his shit.
I saw Whitesnake open for Motley twice and while they were a solid band but they definitely didn’t blow the Crue away. In Phoenix, I remember the crowd being pretty sedate while WS played l, this was in the days when it was standing room only on the floor of the coliseum and all of a sudden “The Stripper” was playing and people began to stir for a minute in 90% darkness until BAM pyro , the curtains rose, and All In The Name of smacked them in the face…My other show was mid-tour wit Guns N’ Roses opening…that was like having to headliners playing, who was better was a matter of personal preference
Seen the WS 87 they opened Crue
Yep. Saw them on that tour too. Louisville KY. Crue was loaded on stage. They sucked. The Snake blew their asses away
I saw that one in Houston TX.
@@joeylyons4549 "The Snake blew their asses away"
😆 so true. I saw the show in Indianapolis.
@@joeylyons4549 yeh i saw them on this tour and can say the same thing, Crue sucked ass
TRES, TRES Cool!
There's gotta be some truth to what he says about Sykes, and other stories about Sykes. You don't come off an album like Slide It In, and then get booted off the project because you're a joy to work with.
John only re do guitars for the US mix .
He didnt wrote anything for Slide it in.
The true line up on that is David , Lord , Cozy , Colin , mel galley , Micky moody .
How many people have been in Whitesnake? Maybe it's David...
@@allsystemsgo8678 Could be.
@@allsystemsgo8678 or not ....
Take case by case
Coverdale is a douchebag.
Saw them open for Motley in Philadelphia 2 nights in 87, honestly they smoked the CRUE both nights. Lol Nikki said they smoked Whitesnake at those shows in his book. Apparently that’s what happens when your book is called “the heroin diaries “ lol
I also saw the motley 87 tour,...but guns and roses opened,......blew the doors off the joint....people were laughing at m.c.
@@brianfalarski6074 yeah I saw Guns open for Aerosmith two nights. First night was Baltimore. The vibe for Guns was amazing but they were a train wreck really BUT the very next night in Philadelphia? STILL one of the greatest nights I’ve ever witnessed!! I was a big Aerosmith fan but I was 16 at the time. So Guns was my shit!
@@STETTRACE lol...I was also 16....it was Columbia s.c.
@@brianfalarski6074 RIGHT?? Just something about WHEN that shit hits you!!!! Appetite STILL the greatest guitar rock album
@@STETTRACE yea , terry... that was a landmark album, every idg started to trade their bullshit pointy guitars, for the real deal, Paul's and teles,,,geez ,nightrain is a beast..not sure if they ever recovered ,from a songwriting angle, after losing mr stradlin,.however,..scince I cant have you is brilliant....always loved " breakdown" as well...I'm going a little off topic here
Was Vivian actually ever recorded on any Whitesnake track?
you did a great job playing all those john sykes songs..
Interesting that Texxas Jam was their first show. I was up front and remember on the breakdown section of "Still of the Night" that Vivian came in 4 or 8 bars early. As a teenager, I thought even the pros make mistakes. Great set otherwise!
🎶🎼🎸🥇🪔✌️💫🌎🧜🦋
No the best line up is the band that recorded ws87
Coverdale did Sykes super dirty
Original drummer 1987 album Ansley Dunbar the best whitesnake drummer after Jan Paice
Dave dowle wasnt laughing either .
I mean the guy had weird stuff ..maybe more fusion .
Try Nightawk vampire blues again 😊
Except Tommy Aldridge played in Whitesnake and he’s probably the baddest metal/rock drummer of the 80s.
You had material for headline shows .
But again even again nowadays David choose to deny the pre geffen stuff like the plague .
Business is business
Slip of the Tongue was a bit of a wank, but Sailing Ships, Wings of a Storm and Now You're Gone are great Vandenberg penned tracks.
He is high paying cover band
Hopefully he doesn’t fall victim to an unfortunate gardening accident
Motley Crue was embarrassed that the opening band was outperforming them. After WS they toured with GNR. Same result.
I have to differ. I saw both shows and White Snake was good but didn’t really compliment the style of the headliners, definitely didn’t outperform them according to the crowd. GUNS was a great fit, but, they were so young it was obvious who the headliner was.
Funny how people forget the reality of the situation and either go with what’s become popular opinion or parrot others. Girlsx3 should hav been a #1 but for record company politics and Whitney Houston’s version of the Dolly Parton classic, i Will always love you”…… riding the coattails of a decent movie, her contribution to the soundtrack was all that was needed for her to debut at #1 the week MC should have filled that slot.
Imagine the arrogance of David Coverdale not wanting Vivian Campbell to help write songs!!!
He’s driving me crazy with his nasal deep breath thing he keeps taking every 10 seconds what’s that about
OCD?
@@peevee605 Well I think I am now for sure
Maybe he's sick or has allergies. What's up with Stevie Wonder not seeing? What's going on there, anyway?
"Wrist problem"
Translated: "Dave wanted a hot-shit guitar player like Steve Vai, so we faked an injury that suddenly healed as soon as the album was finished... imagine that."
His injury was not faked you idiot. He still had a lot of problems with his wrist during the tour.
Adrian is a hot-shit guitar player.
Never have been a Vivian follower. Just couldn’t get into him.
His riffs and solos on the first DIO album are fantastic imo
Sweet savage too
Vivian is better than vandenberg. It's not even close
He was great in Dio, but in whitesnake Vandenberg was the best guitarist by far.
@@rv9905 I think John Sykes was better in Whitesnake than Vandenberg and overall as a player/writer. So was Doug Aldrich…..
