Yes!!! The humble Flying Dutchman and master of tasty phrasing gets a rundown! Who else is a fan of this man's amazing tempo changes in solos? Ga zo door Adje!
I was a teenager in the 80's and bands like Whitesnake are the sound track of my youth. My first car was a 76 Camaro and I worked my ass off to buy the highest end Alpine stereo available. It was a glorious thing to behold. 6 Alpine woofers, 4 midrange and 4 tweeters with the Bazooka bass amp under the back seat with the 100w amp/graphic EQ under the CD/tape deck. And emanating from that system was Whitesnake, Ozzy, Crue, WASP, Dokken, Priest, Maiden and all the other bands that made the 80's so good. My God, take me back to those days! Cruising the strip on Friday nights, going out to the quarry to smoke weed, drink beer, make out with your girl, party with the boys...magic on earth.
I had a great stereo in a '67 Cutlass with just two Jensen Coaxial speakers. But those speakers mounted in holes in the rear deck...used the entire massive trunk as a cabinet. Incredible!
@@troymiller885 Yes they were. I was at the license branch the day after my 16th b-day. I would have done it on my b-day but that was a Sunday. I had to MAKE my boys go thru drivers ed and they never got their license until they were 20 and 22. They have no desire to drive. It is a different time now. Back in our day, cars and metal were it. Now? iPhones and Ubers.
as a teenager, I used to use "vanderberg" as a nickname for every thing I had to name myself on the internet, because of this guy. What an amazing guitarist. True hero
Wat leuk om als topgitarist je zo bescheiden op te stellen. Ik heb het met veel plezier van begin tot eind gekeken.. O ja, en natuurlijk heel veel respect om op deze leeftijd nog zo te spelen en er uit te zien..
First three Vandenberg solo albums his playing is just off the charts. His euro influences, staccato style, bursts of speed was incredible. Find the albums or watch old videos with the band. You may not dig the songs but his soloing is worth the listen. I never really thought he fit in Whitesnake but I was glad Adrian got the fame from it. His playing today is clearly different due to the injury.
An absolute legend, and a HUGE influence on me as a guitar player. I've been a lifelong fan since the 80's when I was a child. Still have my original Vandenberg vinyl records. Looking forward to the re release of his signature model. I owned an original in the 90's which I unfortunately sold several years later. They really are amazing guitars, and I'm loving that red and black "batman". Best of luck with the tour Adrian and whatever the future holds. You've definitely been missed here in the USA.
What a treat! I can't believe it's been 30 years since we've seen Adrian in the US. Wow. It's so good to see him and especially his amazing classic gear. lol. Good job PG.
I got one of the Peavey Vandenburg guitars when they came out - late 80's? Wish I still had it. On a side note, my grandma used to shred on a guitar with a whammy-bar! The props he gives to his guitar techs at 37:45 is priceless 😊 what a humble dude.
This is the first time I seen someone taller than John standing next to him. I clicked that like button before I even watched it. I knew it would be good.
I’m an Epiphone SG owner? I wish I had a real Gibson any brand. My father gave it to me before he passed in January 2020. You for sure rock Mr Adrian. Much respect 🤘🤘
I've been a fan of Adrian since the 80s. I remember when "Burning Heart" was a big song on MTV in '83 and when he joined Whitesnake. I saw him about 3 or 4 times with Whitesnake and he's just as good as Vivian or Vai. Different style, but absolutely world class.
What a funny guy. Adrian just made my day. I remember learning Burning Heart when it first came out "a couple of years ago" and was awestruck with the solo tone. Keep on rocking Adrian.
I saw Adrian play with White Snake on that 1990 Tour! He was one of my favorite guitarists and the reason that I bought a White Peavy Electric when I was in high school. Of course mine was a cheap Peavy Nitro and I was a horrible guitarist, but in my head I was playing on Adrian's guitar! Actually I had no idea that he played Gibson Les Paul. I only remember him playing the Peavy.
Great Rig Rundown. One of the Whitesnake guitarists (1978-1982) before Adrian was Bernie Marsden who sadly passed in August last year. Gardiner Houlgate are auctioning his guitar collection in June this year.
My favorite guitarist and the reason I got into guitars is John Sykes who wrote the 1987 Whitesnake album with David. So in 1990 I was so excited to see Sykes but half the band was fired by Coverdale. We didn't know, there was no social media, RUclips, etc. John Sykes was fired, Adrian Vandenberg remained and Sykes replacement was Steve Vai. Most will say Vai is a better guitarist but for me Sykes is the better songwriter. Still the Night is a masterpiece and Is This Love is the greatest ballad from all the hair metal bands of this era. Glad to see Vandenberg is back, it's full circle. He was fantastic during the 1990 I got to see along with Vai.
First interview I have seen with Adrian, and what a great guy! I could listen to him telling his stories all day! Interesting guy and a great player. Well done!
I just finally after all these decades found one of the off shore Peavey V-type exp Vandenberg model guides, completely rebuild the guitar, even though it's an old off shore version, the neck and body are amazing and extremely comfortable. I replaced all the hardware with Schaller and Seymour Duncan blackout pickups. It's one of my go to guitars now! He's such an awesome guy!
John Sykes wrote the 87 album. Then David hired a whole new band to tour and do videos. Great respect and love for Adrian. Saw the tour with Aldridge, Campbell and Sarzo. It was epic.
@@SurfGreenTelecaster yes, true. Just getting some context out there. Sykes doesn't get recognition due to the videos and tour lineup. Perhaps my comment was a bit too ...uh..but. fair enough. Peace
@FreeThink4Peace Yeah. Adrian always seems like a great dude. However, no mention from either of these guys about Sykes creating and recording most of that album was a major faux pas.
@@jfo3000 Don't get me wrong - Sykes is the all time greatest combination of hard rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. But I think John B is just being fair to Adrian here to not risk derailing the interview with the Sykes/Coverdale saga. He was only highlighting his most famous moment in the band.
@joehitz5613 Sykes' dropping out of music was so sad. One of THE greatest. But the music biz is pure evil, run by criminals. It kills some folks. At least John survived and made a huge contribution!
Makes me appreciate my Heritage 80 Standard (1981) that I found used in Philly mid 80's. The shop actually had 2, this one had a Dimarzio in the bridge and was cheaper. Now I wish I had bought both. So, I replaced both with Duncan 59's right away, and so that's the way it is today. The lone Tim Shaw wound up in another guitar. Speaking of Tim Shaw, I also found an '81 blonde dot neck in Philly that I have kept. It's totally stock. The Duncan's in the LP and the Tim Shaw's in the 335 sound very similar to me.
Fun fact: Vandenberg played the solo on the album version of "Here I Go Again"; Dann Huff played the solo on the radio remix. Why Geffen felt they needed a radio remix is beyond me. Most played the album version anyway. I didn't even hear the radio remix until years later.
Listen to his rig that there no Buzzing ground noise, If you notice the wire coming from the pick up ring going to the bridge post grounding it . I do all my Les Pauls like that, it makes a big difference.
All these years I never knew he was really playing that bow part on that song. I thought it was a synthesizer, and he was just doing that live as part of the show.
When I was a drummer I would always wear ear protection. As a singer I have a bit more trouble with ear plugs. Hearing protection is a must for longevity. I have hand troubles because of my neck from an accident too. It took forever for my doctors and I to figure it out.
I would have repaired the ground on the original Shaw pickup and put it back in. That nerve damage stuff is a bitch, as I've dealt with it. Everything is connected. Adrian looks pretty good and seems to be having fun, so good for him. Nice interview 👍

Hard to believe Adrian is 70 years old. Music has kept him young!
No way is the dude 70 years old, I refuse to believe that
That's pretty incredible. If I didn't know any better I would think he was in his mid to late 50s.
He really is. nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_Vandenberg
On the road he plays scrabble and collects stamps.
The word is frequency and frequency is the word of god and the offspring of god.
Adrian seems like a really great guy. So warm, open, funny, and self effacing. Makes me want to see him play live again even more.
Adrian Vandenberg such a humble man !! and what an guitarplayer, I'm proud to be Dutch for once
That Vandenberg video was in HEAVY rotation on my MTV in 1983.
