Great stuff. Tooth and Nail to this day is one of my favorite from the era. Lynch (as much of a prima donna as he was) had some incredible solos on that record. Don's honesty is refreshing. He was that band and clearly earned his stripes despite the slaggin he gets now for his vocals not being what they were is 84/85.

And some promotor somebody was rushing him along and I quickly asked for his autograph. This other guy tells them he doesn’t have time but he stops and says something like “I’ll make the time.” I met a lot of famous people around that time and I will never forget how cool that was of George.

Thanks for these great interviews. Very enlightening. I do want to say though, the original tension between Don and George was that Don wanted to continue to play guitar in the band and even play some lead, but George wanted to be THE guitarist and just have Don focus on the singing. George finally won out but I think Don was jealous and resented it. He also never thought of the "boys" as being a real band. Just the studio guys he got to play "his" songs so he could have an album. You hear him in these interview clips saying they would write their songs and he would write his. I always loved Dokken's albums until they broke apart, but there's always 3 sides to every story; theirs, yours and the truth Lol. I cut my teeth playing Dokken's music when I first really got into playing and enjoyed every song. They were just the kind of heavy rocking groove that did it for me. Good times

I heard back in the day that Don insisted that the band wear these glamorous outfits like on the album cover for Under Lock And Key. George hated dressing up like that and i don't blame him cause they weren't glam !

Saw that tour with Dio, and the following one they opened for Triumph. They were actually really good live, regardless of any friction there may have been. That Dio tour through...terrible Dio mix/sound. Sound engineer put way too much delay in the guitar and Dio's vocals and there was this terrible mush of double hits on everything that made discerning something almost impossible. Luckily the Dokken mix wasn't nearly as bad.

Being alone doesnt necessarily make you an asshole.don has always been a private guy. Maybe he was abit of a prick? But i doubt the other 3 were saints. If you had to be around someone you werent fond of all the time you too would need a break. Jon levin has been in dokken almost 20 years and its typically george wanting to do reunion shows. Probably because those 500 short lived projects he keeps starting up dont last.

George was a bitchin guitarist however his head space ruined him. He came off as an epic asshole. It's sad because I don't think they could have put another guitarist in Dokken and it would have been the same. George let his ego and drugs run him which ruined Dokken's chance to have major success. I wish it had been differently because Dokken was EPIC AS FUCK! I would have liked to have seen them get major success. I had all of their albums but my ex destroyed them because I treasured them....I am replacing them so I will have them all once again. Still love Dokken.

@4:23 George and Jeff should sue this ego maniac. Lies! Lies! This guy has a sick ego. George and Jeff wrote all the music for that album. All the music. This guy profited from George's talent from day 1 and then he pulled the rug below the band's feet after BFTA album. Ripped them off.
Oh! And suddenly, from your lackluster breaking the chains songwriting talent you went to the awesome tooth and nail songwriting uh? Yeah Right! And Paris is burning is not your song Don.! You stole it from The Boyz.

Sorry, Don's broken hearted musical approach didn't deserve Georges' talent IMHO .... we see who is still playing and who's whining... Lynch Mob is still kickin' and Don's doing nothing.in 2020/2021.. Jeff is playing with the remnants of Foreigner. don't know where Mick is ....ummm was playing for the End Machine 2019 ... another Don won't play with ... a leopard can't change it's spots, not a real big fan of Don he did great on the title track and "Heaven comes down" i'm sure the rest was clingingly dedicated for that girl that got away..... seems like the issue was Don and his huge ego got in the way and he once again can't buy a band ...Glen Hughes is still belting it out at 69 years of age in Dead Daisey's Holy Ground with Doug Aldridge and Deen Costonavo my two cents
