@@bakura227 Yeah, being a guitar player myself, I have to laugh at George pretending to play an acoustic for the first few opening bars (not his fault). I always thought it was silly after a certain time that they still made bands pretend to play their songs on the Ed Sullivan Show, AB, etc.
Finally somebody posted this !!! Hands down, George Lynch was and is an absolutely mind blowing guitarist. The solo in “Unchain The Night” is ore of my all tine favorites. He packs it all in one mammoth punch, speed, precision, dexterity, harmony, creativity and flawless execution. I myself have been playing for 30 + years and I couldn’t tie the laces in his shoe. Tremendous talent. Big thumbs up to the uploader for this priceless gem. Great memories. 👍😎🎸
He also got his first record deal in Germany and connected with the Scorpions adn ended working with them for rehersal while clause recovered from getting vocal chords removed - they recorded a few songs with them which we will never hear, which he said..... he was just helping them out.
Some of the so-called singers of today, don't have half the talent that Don had. He was truly gifted. I pray that he takes some of that talent and mentors a new generation of artists because what they're calling music these days, is GARBAGE !!!! 😮
Dokken, was absolutely awesome in the mid 80’s. For some reason they get compared to Ratt, but they are 2 completely different bands yet immensely talented.
Warren DeMartini and George Lynch played similar styles and both are amazing musicians but George tears it apart on under lock and key and back for the attack hard to beat stuff he was doing on those albums. DeMartini is no slouch and tears it up album after album on the ratt records ….I said records sorry 😂 I still have the albums
@@cool2no Randy Rhoads said he believed George was doing things no one else was doing and he held him in high regard. More than likely once of the inspirations for George’s huge ego.
I remember seeing this back in 85! American Bandstand used to come on in the afternoon on Saturdays, Sadly, just like all other AB guest performers back then, this was all lip synced and air guitar & drumming. They weren't actually playing or singing. This was pretty much the norm for AB .....everybody lip synced when they "performed" their newest single. You cold tell that these were the studio cuts, right down to the 2nd overdubbed guitar and multi tracked vocals. But it was still a cool blast from the past! Thank you for the upload!
Was all a lip-sync. But, seen them live 4 times back in the 80's and they were fucking killer every time. George did nail most of his shit, and it sounded so damn good. Especially the bigger venues where he had 35 to 45 thousand watts pushing it all....
David Bruce yea how did he do that, and don dokken sounded exactly like the album too.Wonder why don sounded like shit every I saw him live or on live recordings lol
It just gets me everytime that Dick Clark was so kind and funny to all of his guests, ( i realize it was his job) whether it was Gladys Knight and the pips or Dokken. I watched faithfully every Saturday.
Jeff, thanks for sharing this. You guys were always one of my favorite bands in the 80's. I bought this album soon after its release and was blown away by what you guys gave us. I remember this vividly as well. During this time, I worked in a TV shop. I was the helper at this time, and I remember seeing this for about 20 seconds on AB when we got done repairing someone's TV. Obviously, I didn't get to watch all of it, but I was SO excited to see Dokken on AB.
Outstanding performance by the Dokken fellas.regardless of the lip-synch. I so much love the axe work by Lynch in this song. Just Got Lucky and Breaking the Chains are my absolute favorites by Dokken! Alas, time takes a heavy toll Don just cannot sing anymore, sigh. But I am greatful. Pretty much all shows like American bandstand and even the British version of American bandstand always did some kind of lip-synching. Basically it's because if for any reason they have to stop the filming and restart it's nearly impossible, or at least terribly time-consuming, to try to restart a song right in the middle and sync up all the playing and everything else. So most shows just did some kind of lip-synch. I don't think Don Kirshner's rock concert did, but that was filmed more like a concert instead of a TV spot.
NO...Don had a part time job at Long John Silvers.....thats why he was dressed the way he was. He was a cook there part time. He made some good crispies and north Atlantic cod.
I saw Don Dokken playing at a state fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a crowd of about 50-75 people around 2003-2005. ChumleyChumchizer , join the club....lol
Yep, better than rap/hip hop where kids wear their pants dropping, rediculous
true words all these metal and rock artists nowaday have becomes such pussys because of the internet they are scared to be ridiculed fuck the haters and just rock and express yourself in every crazy way possible. Shock the normal people
🎸🙋♀️Thx for posting this! Oh Lord I miss the 70s & 80s music. We knew it was awesome when we were there but didn’t realize how much we’d treasure it now. It’s very sad what they’re calling “music” now.
For me, Pilsons harmonies make this track next level.
Bass player held it down EVERYTIME! Dam good rendition of this song. Strong musicians all around, too bad they didn't get the hype that Def Leppard got. Dokken rules!
Jeff pilson is still going strong and was/is playing with foreigner.
*This was lip synced to the record. Not live.*
@@bakura227 That doesn't make Dokken any less awesome!
I heard about them performing "Alone Again" on American Bandstand ..been looking for footage since I got the internet several years ago but just saw the interview,,glad to see they did "Just got Lucky" also even though they weren't really playing live but still great !!!
Pilson's a freaking whirling dervish... I'm getting whiplash watching him. All I can think is "the coke is strong with this one" lol.
Pilson was very funny. I love him. 😁😂
Lmao 🤣 💨
Awesome band! Still rocking after all these years
Hands down, George Lynch was and is an absolutely mind blowing guitarist. 👍😎🎸
Don Dokken started out as producer and engineer and transitioned into being a fantastic singer!
Did not know that
He also got his first record deal in Germany and connected with the Scorpions adn ended working with them for rehersal while clause recovered from getting vocal chords removed - they recorded a few songs with them which we will never hear, which he said..... he was just helping them out.
Some of the so-called singers of today, don't have half the talent that Don had. He was truly gifted. I pray that he takes some of that talent and mentors a new generation of artists because what they're calling music these days, is GARBAGE !!!! 😮
Saw Dokken playin in holland way bck in 86.
They were excellent
Now im 63 and still listen to them this music is timeless
That guitar sounds great! And it's not even plugged in! :D Great video and thanks for sharing!
Tooth and nail and Under lock and key and first Album Breaking the chains wow great band
Dokken, was absolutely awesome in the mid 80’s. For some reason they get compared to Ratt, but they are 2 completely different bands yet immensely talented.
i am pretty sure jaun from Ratt was Dokkens first bass player and George had short black hair Pilson jumped on board pretry quickly
Both bands had horrible lyrics.
Warren DeMartini and George Lynch played similar styles and both are amazing musicians but George tears it apart on under lock and key and back for the attack hard to beat stuff he was doing on those albums. DeMartini is no slouch and tears it up album after album on the ratt records
….I said records sorry 😂 I still have the albums
@@cool2no Randy Rhoads said he believed George was doing things no one else was doing and he held him in high regard. More than likely once of the inspirations for George’s huge ego.
@@garlandnoble4371 Exactly. They had the crossover of Juan and both bands were far deeper melodically and instrumentally than 99% of their peers.
Wow! George play the solo exactly like on the album! LOL! ;-)
Eddie Steele yea George is awesome live I saw him in a small venue with dokken I was front row and he nailed everything even mr scary
Cain M lol!
The reason is playback dude
Dokken❤,so many top notch songs!thanku don.
Like they use to say back in the day " Rockin with Dokken! "
I heard Alone again and that was it back then. My favorite group in that era
Crazy underrated band... period
What I would do to go back to 1981-89.
Jeff pilson kicks some serious ASS!!!
I got to hear them in their prime in the 80's and I remember them kicking much ass!
this is not lip-synch
Shawn C. This IS lip-synch. When dokken played live it sounded nothing like this. In fact i thought about putting in the songs in high quality.
PLEASE DO! Would live to hear it with that high quality sound. I loved Dokken in high school and always loved their music.
thischannelrocks well if it is they do a remarkable job ..go to 9:26...jeff pilson hits the keyboard trigger right on for that voice synth part...maybe you are correct..its a well made video appearance...on further listening to the just got lucky video...the rhythm guitar track is clearly audible underneath lynches solo.....early eighties i remember it well!!!!....well most of it...
rudy garcia Oh yes, back in the days when everybody wanted to be the new Mr Edward Van Halen but Mr Scary really did stand out of the lot,he ruled and still does!I was 15 when i got into them and now 43 and still can't get enough lol
Even when i was 15,started with Motley Puke and Poison borrowed from a schoolfriend and as soon as Dokken came into my life, that was it,said to myself " another kind of musicians than the two i just named"
Hello from France :)
I love Lynch. He is up there with Eddie and randy. I'm glad I grew up in the 80s to see these awesome bands.
Dokken is awesome they are all so young in this clip! They were amazing to see in the Hollywood clubs of the 80 the wisky!! Modern music has been diluted by American idol etc all of those acts are garbage ! It’s sad to see don dokken now george is still one of the best of all time
Jeff and Mick's backing vocals were always prominent to Dokken's sound.
Don has the most sultry eyes that I’ve ever seen. Alone Again and his eyes just melt my heart!! I just wish I could have seen Dokken in concert back when they were popular! ❤😢
I totally agree with you! I was fortunate enough to see them four times live!
Don has one of THE best voices in all of rock and Lynch is just a freaking genius. Too bad these guys couldn't hold it together.
I cannot believe I am seeing American bandstand after all this time lol! This was 1 of my favorites an still is! Used to have their cassette to, yes that’s what I said lol!
Back when Rock Bands ruled the top 40 charts, oh and look they actually play instruments.
SuperRatBait but who is playing rhythm guitar in this production? Are they not lip syncing here?
It’s completely lip synced. They may be playing along, but it’s the studio track we’re hearing.
Tooth and Nail, my favourite 80's album.
Hair metal at its best, loved dokken.
i still love dokken
BEAUTIFUL Just BEAUTIFUL!
NO...Don had a part time job at Long John Silvers.....thats why he was dressed the way he was. He was a cook there part time. He made some good crispies and north Atlantic cod.
George delivered booze and took what wasn't sold.
I saw Don Dokken playing at a state fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a crowd of about 50-75 people around 2003-2005. I remember Don coming out in a big fluffy mink coat, and he was a little overweight, ... but he his voice was no different as if you were listening to the album. He nailed every song.
I remember watching this when I was in high school class of 87. Saw them open for Judas in 86 in San Antonio then at Monsters of Rock 88 in Houston
That interview was surely live. Good stuff.
The stage settin that their usin is like the metal heaven you go to and metal bands play 24/7 and it's always partytime.
I never ridiculed them I thought of all the hair bands they were the tops because of George Lynch and his guitar mastery.
I just love that George is just shredding it without his guitar even being plugged in. 😂
this was a treat TY
😂❤😅😊 I've jammed to Dokken since the Immortal 80 s and lived in that era of Hair Bands I was 15 yrs old back then .... that era had so many Heavy Metal Bands from A to Z..... Peace ✌️ out WARRIOR 💯
I saw them after "Under Lock & Key" came out . It was my 2nd rock concert that I ever attended . I was amazed by the music & seeing them perform live . The only thing that dissapointed me was that whenever Don spoke to the crowd , it seemed to me like every other word that came out of his mouth was "F n" this & that ! . . . Literally , that was the only thing that let me down .
I'm addicted to this song just got lucky.... George Lynch is the 80s rock God poster boy imo
That bass player has the moves!
Sexy moves! Jeff rocks! 😍🎸🎹
I was almost seventeen when this came out, my brother was listening and singing it all day and I was playing along...
Best power ballad period
This was my band back in the Day and at61 still love it
