You really did a great job of showing how this isn't just a novelty pedal but how it could be used in a song. I never would have considered a slicer pedal before.
So many hours can be spent using this pedal before even scratching the surface. So much going on, so much to noodle with, so much variation...any way you slice it, this pedal will bring the inspiration for new and exciting ideas. With the distortion, it has instant industrial metal grooves \m/ Very very cool
Amazing demo, as always, Thomas. I have to say it is much better than the BOSS demo clip. They should have hired you once again for it. ;) I had the SL-20 for years and later used some of the Slicer patterns in the MD-200 but it was never the same. So, seeing the effect being re-issued as a compact pedal like this is just incredible! Will get one asap. Cheers, mate!
I had been debating on this pedal and THIS video made me push the ORDER NOW button. It was very inspiring with your dynamic playing and demo! Also ordered a Boss DD-8 and Joyo infinite sustainer along with it! Cant wait to play with them all!
I was JUST thinking about the old larger Slicer pedal the other day, and thinking how that is something that would do well as a comeback offering. AWESOME!
My wife bought this pedal for me a few weeks ago. She knows I like “weird” pedals. I’ve been experimenting with it a lot with both guitar and bass and have been having a lot of fun with it, especially when I start layering in other pedals like chorus and flanger.
Okay, not only is this pedal absolutely insane but this demo was killer as well!! You can really see how the song ideas keep coming. Especially at the 9:30 mark, that riff is an absolutely banger!!
Wow! Crazy + Amazing sounds from this thing! It's like it has a Buckethead Auto-Kill-Switch built into it as well. Very interesting.... may have to check one out soon. Great DEMO Thomas (of course)!
wow Thomas really awesome product demo, I guess I’m going to have to add this on my list of Boss pedals I want, still waiting for your signature McRocklin boss pedal I’ll pre-order mine right now lol 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸🎸🎶🎶
I love the potential of this pedal and I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to buy one. I feel like Boss should release online courses on how to get the most out of the pedal!
greeting! If you can explain whether you only used the settings from the pedal or from the boss software?? The pedal and its settings sound very good, but only on your tutorial!!!! So that worries me! If you can answer! Greetings!
How do you basically get the tempo of the slicer to synth with the drumbeat? And secondly how do save the the preset we made directly to the unit? This is the most important thing for me. May you teach on that? Thank you.
I heard the normal guitar sound ringing out briefly with the slicer effect sustaining after it. Is that from parallel mode? Also how are the 3-D modes? Thanks!!!
Top video! Can you please let me know how to sync it with Logic X? Got boss midi/trs cable and connected via USB as well. SL-2 is seen in Logic as device but can't find a way to sync it to the song tempo. Thanks
Thanks dude! I got it, it's probably something in the settings of Logic or my Motu because it seems the pedal does not adapt to song tempo changes... mmm gonna dig deeper into it, BTW thanks again and HNY
I’m blown away by this. It’s basically the tremelo I have always wanted, considering trems can be pretty boring. With a looper and drum machine this would be incredible
I bought this battle with the intent of issues, and as a recuperation of the vox repeater, but man there’s so much more than I can do I really fell in love with it
Ive a Hardware setup of some amazing synths and Drum machines and there Nothing that brings out the creative possabilities than FX Pedals ,and i have a FEW !!!!😮 NOW THIS Peddle especially being a natural DRummer had me all over the place on if i should by one , it should have been a no brainer but until this Video i wasent convinced !!!! THANK YOU THOMAS 🤩😍🤤😜👍
This is WILD! You've totally sold this pedal to me. Is the footswitch always a toggle or can it have a momentary type press too? Absolutely fantastic demo and video!
Thank you Sean! It’s on/off not a momentary. I wonder if I can hack it via midi though, it does have a mini midi connection. Ooooof you’ve got me thinking now lol. It is a lot of fun though, great for starting ideas.
This is an amazing demo, I just was wondering how you managed to sync the pedal with your DAW using the USB port, is the pedal tempo knob controlling the DAW's tempo?
For this video I actually just manually synced the tempo and tried to turn the pedal on in time with the beat. I since added midi to the pedal which makes this way easier.
How does it feel in terms of attack? I remember the PH3 Phase Shifter in which I can't "feel" my picking... it's like an envelope without any shoulder. Can you feel your picking attack with the SL2?
Lol. I've just bought this, and your video is what I've been sending to my musician buddies to justify the purchase, in case they think I've lost the plot. 😂
Thanks for showing what this can do I'm definitely getting one now. I've been working with FL studio on sequences for my ambient music and was looking for a pedal that can do sequences. So thank you.i just have a question. How are you figuring out the tempo of the slicers sequence and adding drum beats to it?
Can it save patches that you've tweaked? That was one of my main probs with the SY1.. amazing pedal but you couldn't save any of your patches with settings!
Finally I can use my SL-2 in public hah! For lessons, it's School Of McRock 👉🏻 schoolofmcrock.com

I've been through several demos and none have even come close to showcasing what this little fellow can do like you have. Bravo.
Hey Tier, appreciate that thank you!
You really did a great job of showing how this isn't just a novelty pedal but how it could be used in a song. I never would have considered a slicer pedal before.
Thanks mate. Yes, I can imagine people trying to do really cheesy silly stuff with this pedal, and missing the point.
Thomas is one of the few guitarists who can actually utilize and show the musical possibilities of funky pedals like this.
🤓 Hah well thank you. That’s very kind of you.

UNBELIEVABLE DEMO of this SLICER thang !!!!!! just crazy and insane what we can do with this box !!!!
Thanks!
The most useful demo on this pedal. Also, yes, you created a few hit song riffs in the process. Nicely done.
Thanks Lance!
The SL-2 coupled with a loop pedal would be such an insane combo 🎸 Great review as always and loved the creative ideas and playing 🙌🏼😄
Very true mate!! This is the next move for sure.
Yea I'm thinking of getting the Slicer to pair with my Chase Bliss Mood 😄
So many hours can be spent using this pedal before even scratching the surface. Absolutely! Cheers Joey, we’ll be taking this for a spin on a stream soon.
Boss pedals for the win 💯
I agree with you on that... I wont use anything else but BOSS PEDALS
Amazing demo, as always, Thomas. I have to say it is much better than the BOSS demo clip. Hah thank you! I missed out on the SL20 could Never find one, so I’m glad they made the SL-2. Appreciate the kind words!
Wow...Boss releases yet another inspiration machine. Excellent video review as always!!!
Thanks Melody King! 💜
You are the PERFECT GUITARIST to demo this amazing pedal! Brilliant video, bruh.
Holy hell, that's one amazing pedal! Thanks for the demo, Thomas!
Cheers Troll!
This is one of the most insane pedals I've ever heard. Wow.
🤓👋🏻
Yes! Sounds incredible! Nice work.
Thanks Matt! Congrats to the team!!
Dude, you made, like, 10 songs just in this one demo… I’m so buying this pedal ASAP since I’ve been trying to get SL20 for years now
Same! Ye it’s a really awesome pedal.
I had been debating on this pedal and THIS video made me push the ORDER NOW button. It was very inspiring with your dynamic playing and demo! Also ordered a Boss DD-8 and Joyo infinite sustainer along with it! Cant wait to play with them all!
Enjoy!!
Absolutely top job showcasing this pedal!
Wow!! Love this pedal!! Sounding great Thomas!!!
Thanks Alec! It’s a top five pedal for me 💯
Boy! That was a convincing demo… I want one now!
Haha it is a lot of fun! Cheers
The sy-1 and now this we can make totally guitarcentric synthwave great video
I have to admit i love your demo videos, you get so much out of these pedals. Brilliant
Excellent demo, nicely done.
Thank you kindly!
Probably the coolest video on this pedal I've seen so far!
I was JUST thinking about the old larger Slicer pedal the other day, and thinking how that is something that would do well as a comeback offering. AWESOME!
Exciting times Jon!
First thing I saw when I woke up this morning was that this was releasing. Instantly bought it
Congrats! And enjoy! :)
Veeeery nice video Thomas and super cool and amazing pedal! It seems to have a great potential 🔥
Thanks Luca!!

She’s a keeper
I am sold! You did better demo than others and the Boss company themselve.😊
Haha well thank you! I’ll be sure to tell em 🤪
This is the Swiss Army knife of unique sounds in the form of a pedal. Great Job!!!
Thanks Chris!
Definitely the best video on this pedal!🎉
Okay, not only is this pedal absolutely insane but this demo was killer as well!! You can really see how the song ideas keep coming. Especially at the 9:30 mark, that riff is an absolutely banger!!
Haha thank you! Yeah I’m excited to use it as part of future songs, which is what it’s all about. Thanks again! :)
Wow! Crazy + Amazing sounds from this thing! It's like it has a Buckethead Auto-Kill-Switch built into it as well. Very interesting.... may have to check one out soon. Great DEMO Thomas (of course)!
Hey Scott, thank you! It’s a lot of fun, I enjoyed making this one.
this gives great ideas for composing various styles of music
MIDI clock sync is the key of SL2. I just did a short demo for it. Really cool video btw!
Nice my cables just arrived!
Midi clock is crucial. And use a drum program with it. Your vid was great too.
I got this wonderful thing. There's quite some tricks to learn from your video. Thanks!
I’m blown away in just the first 5 seconds! Or maybe it’s just McRocklin’s playing?
😆😆😆 too kind mate.
Legend has it that he never even turned the pedal on.
Thomas, You ever play a Steinberger?
Briefly but not in any detail.
@@McRocklin What model Steinberger did you play and what is your opinion on it?
That's a very cool pedal! Great demo! 🤘🤘
Yo Joey! Thank you mate!!
This guitar pedal is absolutely fantastic !!! Many thanks for this superb and very professional demonstration...
Thanks for checking it out!
Man, you are so creative and a great player!!! Nice demo!
Love it! It’s like having the Matrix as a guitar effect!! 🤘🏻🤪🤘🏻
Bullet time effects!

Where does the Slicer go in the signal chain? do you like a modulation pedal, placed after all the dirt pedals?
Depends what you’re looking for. I’d go before personally 👍🏻
it has a 'set level' function.. does that make effect louder in the mix? Thinking more for a live effect.
Yeah it’s balance between wet and dry.
@@McRocklin hang on, isnt that the Balance nob?? There is an option 'hold for level' ??
F’ing sick as always Thomas! Commencing SL2 transaction protocol sequence initiate. 🙃
👋🏻🩵
...Thank you,Sir....Great,as always!!!....Think I'll "WAIT" for the "SL-200"...This time...
Very nice , great inspiration,, you have gone to an extreme level
greeting! If you can explain whether you only used the settings from the pedal or from the boss software?? The pedal and its settings sound very good, but only on your tutorial!!!! So that worries me! If you can answer! Greetings!
I made these presets for the pedal, so they are mostly patterns that I have created. The tones/amp comes after the pedal.
Thank You for the quick response! Greetings!!!
That's certainly one of the more interesting pedals Boss has put out in a long while
Nice, I have lots of fun with the Slicer on the Katana amp.
The slicer on the katana amp? Since when is the slicer built in to the katana?
Since always
@MagicPumpkin haha do you have to go on the editor for that? I've never heard it just the main amp by itself
what setting is at 6:16 distortion? its awesome
I can’t remember I’m afraid :(
At 7:44 you showcase a organ sound I’m trying to recreate, and it seems to be ignoring your tempo and just giving you the Tone. How do I do that?
It may be one if the patches that I made for the expansion packs 👍🏻
When it “creates a bass line”, is there a way to keep that going and bypass the pedal? Or would you need a looper?
Yeah that would be a loop thing mate. But yeah that’s a great way of using it, gonna try that!
Awesome demo! The Slicer pedal sounds great!
Thanks Troll!
How do you basically get the tempo of the slicer to synth with the drumbeat? And secondly how do save the the preset we made directly to the unit? This is the most important thing for me. May you teach on that? Thank you.
BOSS didn’t release editing software to the public, just for me to create the patches. You can purchase a midi adapter cable to sync it to your Daw 👍🏻
Just seeing that Boss had an SL-20. Anyone have any insight into how they compare? Other than size and availability
I’ve never tried the original, missed the boat.
I heard the normal guitar sound ringing out briefly with the slicer effect sustaining after it. Is that from parallel mode?
Also how are the 3-D modes?
Thanks!!!
It has a balance control, so you blend it. They’re all really good.
The Boss Slicer...I love it and I bet that Tony approves!
I bet he does. He’s tried to stick it on eBay all during my preset creation period. 😆
@@McRocklin Haha oh that Tony! 😅
How do yo sync the drums to the beat of the slicer ? Thank you !
I did it manually, by setting them the same tempo but you can it via midi with the boss adapter
SIC.. Thanks for cutting to the chase with the HEAVY... So gonna implement this in out live productions
Absolutely. Cheers!
Killer!! I love my SL-20 but that sounds great as well.. and more tidy package as well!
Great review! How would you sync the pedal to a PC based DAW? Would a USB C to a 3.5 mm minijack TRS allow the SL2 to sync with a computer?
Thanks! I have done that recently and it works very well!
Top video! Can you please let me know how to sync it with Logic X? Got boss midi/trs cable and connected via USB as well. SL-2 is seen in Logic as device but can't find a way to sync it to the song tempo. Thanks
Hey mate. You need the the midi to 3.5 cable that they sell, I use that now and it works great. Thanks!
Thanks dude! I got it, it's probably something in the settings of Logic or my Motu because it seems the pedal does not adapt to song tempo changes... mmm gonna dig deeper into it, BTW thanks again and HNY

An amazing pedal that caters for EDM! 😄
6:31, which variation is that?
This reminds me of the sequencer settings on the Boss SY1 Synth pedal, I may get one.
I bought this battle with the intent of issues, and as a recuperation of the vox repeater, but man there’s so much more than I can do I really fell in love with it
Great production on this vid. PRO FESH
Thanks Hammer!!

How does one setup specific tempos and can it be sync’d to the computer’s midi timing?
Yep, with a 3.5 to midi cable 👍🏻
I bought the sy1 based off of your video. Now I have to get this. Combining this with the synth sounds the possibilities would be endless.
Ooooh I must try that too!! Thanks Myke!

I’m curious how you sync the slicer tempo with your music software perfectly
This was just done manually, but I did try the midi cable which works.
Great review!!! Thanks!!! Just a question: how do you get the slicer so perfectly in-sync with the drums track??
This was just down to pressing the on in time with the loop lol. I gave it set up with midi now which makes it easier.
