I can't say I get it. I only got the humor of dishing corny 90's demos and then getting a corny 80's KORG drum machine he bought for 80 bucks from Craigslist...
I love how this demo for 1 pedal grew into setting up a whole bank of equipment. THIS is the demo I wanted to see. I have a hard time believing this pedal is just so plug and play like other demos make it out to be and this video addresses it. Thank you.
Brilliant idea using the Slicer to keep the loop in time. I don’t think I would have ever thought of that. Also really cool to see a DL-8 in the picture and I thought it was interesting to see the flipping through presets on the Particle to create a sound using all of them. Really inspiring, I really like this approach.
Music should make you feel something or take you somewhere in time. This took me back to the option selection screen of an SNES game when I was a kid. Love everything Nick does.
Hey, I have a slicer sl2 and have found that when I send in a midi clock from a drum machine, I still have to press the slicer “on” in time with the down beat to get the pattern to start correctly at the right time. Is that normal or is there some work around so you can switch it on and any point any the pattern lines up with the midi clock no matter what?
The Empress Midibox gives you multiple TRS outputs that work on Meris or Strymon pedals. These are different from normal TRS MIDI in that they are bidirectional and use the ring for return data. Normal TRS MIDI has the constant voltage from pin 4 wired to the ring and you can just get a cheap cable that converts DIN MIDI to TRS MIDI.
Thanks to Nick and his guttermouth, I had to have a long talk with my kids about what B*****ger is and why we don't use that word in polite conversation.
This is a very complex pedal. I have watched several videos about it and realized that it can produce wonderful or hideous results depending on *WHO* is using it, because this is one of the rare pedals that you can't just drop it in your pedal board and start using. At least not if you want to do decent stuff. Instead it demands a lot of efforts and experiments until finding a pleasant result. This is one of the reasons why I still didn't buy one.
The only thing I've to complain about BOSS and SL-2 is that after 4 weeks of wasting time trying to figure out the MIDI problem about CLOCK and all the stuff, the fact is that SL-2 works ONLY with BOSS MIDI to TRS owner cable like "Yes we said it's MIDI, same jacks, same pins, but not precisely the INTL STANDARD that it's should be, you know, just a couple of inverted PIN just to make you buy out 25 bucks BOSS cable"
Sorry to disappoint you: a "typical" TRS midi cable has standard schematics. A Boss B-midi cable has a pin inversion which is not a Standard, and Boss customer service has proved me right. I own it and the customer service was very helpful, fortunately.
This is so funny ridicoulus. To make use use of a Boss Slicer, simply add gear worth over 1000 bucks to it. Than play a guitar, but turn the whole rig into a pro synth-desk, where the guitar acts as a midi-type input controller. And than loop the hole thing, so it plays itself. 😂🥳
2:06 "90s corny guitar player jamming these guitar synth sounds with fake drums or something" --> proceeds to make corny guitar synth sounds with fake drums
You have this weird archetype sound coming from your audio in this video. I would suggest rolling off that strange, high frequency noise that only dogs can hear, and apparently myself.
It became painfully obvious that the slicer belongs in a garbage can about half way through. I had hopes you were going to make sense of this “useless effect”. But only proved to me, that it is absolute garbage. Lol
Strongly disagree. Try taking the slicer and attaching it to an expression pedal (I found my much-cheaper “On-stage” pedal worked fine for this. It will slow the slicer bests down by about 75% - NOW you can make grooves that sound better than the results of this video, frankly
@@wintharrison3637 anything that inspires and causes a person happy with guitar gear is great. I love guitar. I hope to love all people who love guitar. I am glad you found a way to use that pedal. I watched that video with a very curious and open mind, only to be very confused and disappointed. I was curious as to why that pedal actually sells, only to become more puzzled.
WTF? Another waste of 18 minutes on Perfect Circuit! If I would have watched this before I bought my Slicer, I wouldn't have. It's a lot more awesome than Nick demos.
Terrible review. Totally lacking creativity. It’s almost as if the presenter doesn’t want to be there. I get inspired and come up with some great sounds using a guitar, the Slicer and a looper pedal, even on a clean tone. Quote: “I don’t like using a clean tone with the Slicer because it reminds me of 80’s synth pop”, “I like the DDD 1, because it sounds so 80’s”, rather contradictory.

Holy shit Nick went full DAWless on us! 🥹🤘

Dad joke…..
Nick is one of those guys who is far more important to the gear world than anyone realizes
Whoever edited this: the pick drop, zoom in on the mic and behringer bleeps made my day. ❤️
Whoa, such a pleasant surprise to see Nick here. I love his music and playing style. One of the best experimental guitarists out there for sure.
i am legally obligated to watch every video of nick playing with pedals
it’s true, i was subpoenaed once.
You bleeped out B*hringer omfg 😂😂😂
yea whats that about
@@boarderking133 just some good ol fun ;)
@@boarderking133 they’re trying to not get sued
Anything Nick does is so awesome haha
this is a reminder that you can throw some ingredients in a pot and you can eat some food
I'm old. The "90s" guitar-into-Slicer sounded much less corny to me than the 80s-esque synth pedal/drum machine combo. 😂

Nick! I’m so thankful we are friends. Love you man! ❤ 🪵🎸🔊🕺🏻🪩
legendary
Cool piece of wood, Paul!
I watch pedals vids to get ideas for modular. Good food for thought, this one is. tx!
couldn't agree more :)
Thanks Nick!
I just got the boss SL-20 and damn… this thing is amazing. I considered getting the V2 (this version) but damn… it’s way more fun than I thought.
If Nick has taught me anything, it's that faith in developing the weird thing makes great art
Finally, a video that shows what this thing can actually do.
Now try SY-1 > Ring mod > SL-2 > distortion
heck yeah >:)

Love that setup!!
"We are already 100x closer" love that line
Well, after all that, raw guitar into the Slicer ftw.
This is great fun! 😂
Nick should be solely responsible for demo videos for all pedals for all times forever and ever and also forever, Amen.👽🌈👾
So what's the deal with bleeping out and blurring Behringer?
the retch at 9:17 is fkin killing me
Huh....I always thought wizards were supposed to wear pointy hats....
Good stuff as always Nick!

Me: I’ll be back in a few minutes. Going to check out this new pedal.
Wife: okay dinner in 20 minutes…
You got that Slicer on the New Order Bizarre Love Triangle setting. 👍
Yooo i laughed out loud when you behringer😂.
So you blew up the yellow box😂
Love your processor, err,I mean process!
Sounds like New Order circa ‘86
Makes me miss pedals and effects!!!!
seriously! :(
came here to say how much i miss nick and juan together

Damn just when I thought TRS midi is bad enough with A/B ring/tip swapped you are telling me theres another flavor… yikes.
Nick Reinhart Masterclass When?
Lol why do they bleep the B company?
I use the Slicer with a headless guitar too
So for about $4000 you can make the sound track for Napoleon Dynamite
Love Nick's brain burps! (What's the deal with the B******* censoring? I'm out of the loop on that one.)
Some “real” musicians are sensitive to B----r, even just a mention. 😆
Poor Johnny DeMarco @ 1:54

thieving bastards- thnxs for the heads up
The Boss SL-2 and their other pedals work with a typical MIDI TRS Type A cable. It isn't there own in house invention or anything.

Why the hell did you bleep behringer? 🤷♂️
I’m not really big on this guy’s music, but I love how his brain works. Dude is creative as hell. Much respect.
Not even old Tera Melos material? Damn
Respectable comment actually
May as well just plug in a $10 1980’s factory preset bontempi keyboard for those sounds 😂
I feel this same way. Those things are worth money now if you find one.
This would be great for making beats or video game music.

Beginning guitar players be wary; You can fuck up your neighbors.
Really it sounds like the first pedal ever. Vox Percussion repeater with some latency
Where’s your Mueller shirt?
Nick Reinhart is the raddest!!!
you even blurred the logo XD
I need this color…I mean pedal
So it is a square wave tremolo with the depth set to max
OMFG! Who decapitated that guitar😰

The jam literally sounds like Fuck Buttons!

so we are all just gonna pretend like this boicot on behringer is real while having a fake model D and crave and whatnot?

Raw guitar sounded best. My rule is if you want keyboard sounds…..use a friggin keyboard. The kids like synths more than guitars nowadays anyways😆
