Dear friends at Boss this sounds amazing. Can you pleassseeee make the presets available by midi program change and the controls by midi CC? This would make it a viable option for singer/songwriters and loop-musicians. We don’t have free hands to twiddle knobs between and during songs. Also electronic musicians would use the shit out of it with midi controls. Thank you!!!
@@scramblesthedeathdealer Currently, it has midi clock sync and extremely limited CC implementation. There is no preset or knob control. But the hardware is there, so there’s a fair chance it could be implemented with a firmware update. It could be an absolutely massive upgrade, but they have to be willing to do it
Bro, you played Shalamar’s A Night to Remember as sound example 3! My mom is listening to that and I stopped dead in my tracks cause I was like “Cyberattack just did this melody on a video!” No lie, you are UNDERRATED with your knowledge of how to use these pedals in videos and pulling older songs into them! Love your playing, you’re stupid inspirational to me!
So happy you also came to the same conclusion of using it to make on the fly drum / hi-hat patterns, I'm proud I came to an advanced conclusion on my own 😂😂. Killer jams for all the examples, well done as always 🙏🙏
The best part here is that while I love making sound effects and think that Slicer sounds great in that capacity, you are one of the only, if not *the* only, person I've seen who's made a demo of it and who can make it musical ❤
Bonus points for Bizarre Love Triangle-ing.😁 Also - the last pro-tip sound reminds me of the (verse?) rhythm sound of Coldplay's 'Princess of China.' Always liked this sound but never knew how to achieve it. Going to give it a shot one day.
this was a no-brainer EDIT: SORRY, i meant that including Bizarre Love Triangle was a no-brainer. I did NOT mean to say the thing you've been wondering about for years was a no-brainer for me, I read that part of your comment later and realized my response sounded truly insane and arrogant, sorry for that.
you are the first person who was able to explain to an electronic minus habens like me how an effect that is not a trivial pedal works ... thanks a lot 🙂 .. immediate subscription
I really like this video. Started utilizing my SL2 a lot more and needed a refresher on some of the cool stuff it can do. I like to go back to this video every once in a while.
I just ordered a Slicer while watching this clip. You have a great way of exploring these pedals and presenting them in a truly entertaining way. Thank You ! Best Wishes - John
I got an SL-2 a few months back because of this video. Had never heard of it until then. It's an awesome effect. I don't even need to feel particularly inspired at the moment I start using it because something about it just induces creativity.
Thanks for this valuable information, my brother just got me one for my birthday. If anyone asks why they haven’t seen me this year this is the reason why.
Wow man super informative! I've been messing around with crazy sounds on my board and you're knowledge of what makes certain sounds sound the way they do is rad af! Will be back 4 more
Thanks for this demo, the setting recs in particular are helpful. I will be incorporating this pedal into my board later this week. It will be fulfilling the role my Moogerfooger MURF used to manage in my chain.
Excited to try the drum machine/noise thing on the Slicer effect on the SP404. I appreciate how versatile your advice is, regardless of the gear involved.
Should I even put my Slicer on the board? Sounds like being able switch it from the end to the beginning of the loop is beneficial. You video was one of the videos that convinced me to buy one and I keep coming back to learn more as I go!
I’ve being messing with a lot of gear that makes guitar sound like a synth lately and something that helps greatly is using your neck pickup and/or rolling the tone down. Let the filters add the harmonics basically. Nice tips; gave me some ideas.
This is one of your best videos. I don't think I want a Slicer or could currently afford one with cost of living blah, but it sounds great. And Boss are clearly paying attention. Ask them for an Re-2, i can recommend
Thank you for a brilliant video......shows just what the Slicer is capable of.......!!......first time on your channel...subscription added..!!....Long time guitar players like me need new paths to explore..!! Keep going..!!! Best wishes from Plymouth UK !!!
I used to do this sort of patterned gate effect back in the 90s with midi gate enabled rack effects. And you're right about playing technique with this effect. It sounds better to my ears when I pluck chords with my fingers, like a classical guitar, instead of sweeping with a pick.
Super epic! Had the MD-200 and the Slicer was my favorite effect on it. SO PUMPED Boss made it a stand alone pedal compact with the updated features. Your demo is epic - thanks!
Thanks for this. I've had a SL-20 for ages (got it for 20 bucks when a store was closing, scoreeee), and I know it can do some awesome things but I haven't sat down with it to mess around yet. Love your videos, they're super inspiring. Also I feel like you would like Maya's Theme from Persona 2.
Cool tips as starting points! Thank you for sharing. I've been searching for a way to achieve this kind of effect (with pedals) for years! This one, is the one that comes closer to what I want ! Thank you for the tips, will try some of them. In one of Zappa's solos records (from "Shut up and play your guitar"), there's a similar effect (kinda). He said he used 'his Blue Box' (probably custom made), but nothing comes as close as this pedal. Boss Rules again ! Take care!
I got mine in the mail yesterday. This thing is fun with a guitar but try it with a bass!! I had so much fun with a bass through this and a looper with guitar on top
i love those little animations, it's the sort of thing i might have tried to do years ago. i have a big enough collection of figures but not a lot of patience.
I love your channel and your music; I am so stoked for your next album with a lot of the pedals you’ve demoed this last year. The sounds with the Slicer, the Nightsky and Zelzah are gonna be dope with your music
@@CyberattackWorld It’s going to be awesome man! You’ve got such a great knack for being advanced; it reminds of how Russell Lissack from Bloc Party uses multiple delays to create unique sounds, or how David Knudson of Minus the Bear was with DL4s and it’s so inspirational to me! The sounds you come up with are what I love in music added to the theory. So I’m here for it all the way!
Thanks dude. I had fun learning that by ear, really tried to get the voicings as close as possible. It was a fun mini project during the making of this video.
That first guitar.... I think it had a horse head on it... I love it. That thing is wonderful. One day when I can save money again I've gotta find one. Btw... Dude. You are one of the greatest pedal demo channels. You get into them in a different way. Fucking love it.

Everything you do is musical, beautiful sounds
Just got this pedal this morning as a Christmas gift from my wife
Happy man!
Yes I was just looking at one of the old ones. Now I might just try one of these.
Best review I saw so far of the usability of the BOSS SL-2. All the other review test it as a fancy Tremolo making you seasick after 5mns.
