PRO-TIP #6: if you want to buy any of the gear discussed in this video, you can support my RUclips channel by using my affiliate links with Perfect Circuit to make the purchase. Thanks as always for being a part of this.
    FOCUSRITE SCARLETT (interface):
    bit.ly/3rCWQJr
****NOTE: in the video, I make a big deal about how the Focusrite costs less $200. I realized after posting this that I was talking about the 3rd-generation version of the product, and now the 4th-generation version has just been released, which costs more than $200. So if you can find a 3rd-gen version used somewhere, I would say get it. Otherwise, this affiliate link is for the 4th-generation version at Perfect Circuit. Sorry for the hassle and for the confusion.
    ALEXANDER SPACE FORCE (stereo reverb):
    bit.ly/3JbtLt1
    STRYMON IRIDIUM (amp pedal):
    bit.ly/3Uah6ur
    FAIRFIELD BARBERSHOP (overdrive/distortion):
    bit.ly/3LKwqfu
FAIRFIELD HORS D’OEUVRE (recursive pedal looper):
    bit.ly/3zGNZpY
    EQD TENTACLE (octave effect):
    bit.ly/3rBRnm3

Totally agree, there's really only two "gear channels" I think are pulling their weight. Both of them feature the stuff featured in well thought out song contexts that aren't really just guitar wankery but the idea of not only showing off how to use gear, but pushing it past ways in which it's generally used sets this on a unique path

I love tip #5. After years of trying to get that perfect studio sound, I got into DIY music, which taught me that sometimes sounding interesting or different is more evocative than sounding as sparkly clean as a Steely Dan album. Now, I just lean into the DIY nature of my own recordings. The little quirks that come from recording in a bedroom are features, not bugs.

A lot of content creators are just advertisers nowadays and I hope this channel won't turn into another one, so I am glad that you acknowledge the trust matter that arises from advertising gear brands or services and that you will address it.
I am curious to hear what you think about it.
This channel is awesome because it is and ode to the unusual in general, from the aesthetics to the pro-tips it conveys.
Bending a pedal to its extremes, re-valuing what one has by using it in unusual ways: this is a call to being creative, without necessarily buying more gear.
So there is a genuine message beyond marketing here, which makes me love this channel and makes me think - as a follower - that I can turn a blind eye to the affiliate links and similar.
I am here for the glitchy sounds, the arcade vibes and for hearing the next crazy way I could do something which I didn't know before.
Can't wait for your next music release - I loved Hard Feelings!

On the subject of tracking guitars, and double tracking guitars; what I’ve been doing recently is just using the AmpliTube virtual amplifier software. I also have the Native Instruments virtual guitar amp but i prefer AmpliTube. You just send the DI signal to your DAW and add the virtual amp plugin to the track. This can help a lot because you’re not locked into whatever guitar sound you record with, you can change it later. It takes a lot of frustration out of recording because you might not understand what guitar sound will be best until you hear the full mix. You can tweak it slightly to make it work in the mix better, or you can scrap it and try something completely different. The DI track will never need to be re-recorded as long as you get the DI gain, and the rhythm right.
It also helps in double tracking because you can just loop the recording in your DAW and get a bunch of good takes and pick the best two or 3 or whatever and slide them into separate tracks, and amplify them differently. Just be sure to use different takes because using the same take on a double track won’t have the effect of sounding like two guitars. When your mind is not bogged down with what the overall sound is, it makes it easier to concentrate on just getting the right takes.

    • @CyberattackWorld
      @CyberattackWorld  11 месяцев назад +3

Thanks for the comment. My mixing is largely self-taught, and specific to my own material, in a way that makes me think maybe I shouldn't be giving advice about it. But maybe it would still be a cool video, I'll think about it.
Right off the bat one thing I can say is that I try to avoid having to use EQ or panning or other tricks to make stuff fit together. Instead, while I'm tracking, I try to make sure each overdub basically sits clearly in the still-unmixed work in progress. And if it doesn't, then I abandon the overdub-I'll either change the part or change the tone or both before recording it. So I try to only commit to stuff that plays nice with everything else, and then I don't have to do as much correction later. It makes the mixing way easier.
However this is only doable for me if its instrumental jams where I play everything myself, and it's not live drums or anything complicated like that. For anything like a real band (including my own band), I get other people to mix it. I would be unable to do that stuff myself.

I feel like I *might* have heard a slight midboost out of the UAD compared to the Focusrite. Emphasis on *might* - I'm far from certain, especially with the various biases that are observed when a listener knows which is the more expensive device, the fact humans have poor auditory memory, etc.
Even if I am right, it's such a slight change that, even if you liked a slight mid-boost (which is subjective), it's certainly not worth more than, say, 5 in your local currency.
I use a Focusrite 2i2 (3rd gen) and it does everything more than good enough. If you have tone problems with this interface, the problem is far more likely to be elsewhere.

What ‘instrument’ setting do you use when recording in GarageBand with the iridium? Do you use the ‘amp’ or the ‘audio recorder’? I have no idea how to get the pure sound from my headrush without one of the presets messing with the tone.

    • @CyberattackWorld
      @CyberattackWorld  5 месяцев назад

I use "None" as the instrument/vocal setting. I love GarageBand, but running the Iridium into any of its presets will sound terrible. When you create a new track, and it shows you the two audio options-one that looks like a microphone and one that looks like a guitar-try clicking on the microphone. If that doesn't work, pick one of the guitar presets but then disable every single one of the plug-in effects it comes with. Then save that setting as one your user presets, and give it a name like "None" or something.

This might be a silly question, but is it possible to run a guitar and pedalboard into a focusrite without having a pedal like the Iridium in the chain?

The major benefit of UA interfaces is the ability to use their plugins. Also, latency is better.

those are good points. i could believe it about the latency, but i never feel like i'm running up against with the focusrite.

Can I skip the first step if I can connect my amp to the PC directly?

you can skip any step you want at any time for any reason

@@CyberattackWorld Though I would recommend an interface and a pedal like an Iridium. However, if your amp has a direct recording connection, like a Yamaha THR-10, then you can connect direct via USB to the computer without an interface.

@@CyberattackWorld No prob. But you certainly discover new sounds by not always following the directions. Look for the happy accidents. Just don't blow up your amp or computer.

Bit disingenuous about the focusrite. Headphone jack sucks if you’ve got headphones over 80ohms. I did research and opted for the Motu M2 instead. I did not “just not think about it”. You should always think about your purchases and consider your options.
