Random Pen Lot - Possibly A Compete Loss?

  • This is the latest edition of Random Pen Lot, where I buy bundles of random (usually vintage) pens and pencils from the internet and see how well I did with the purchase. It's very hit and miss -- sometimes pure gold is uncovered for cheap, other times it comes down to learning experience and little more than a fun gamble.

    I had forgotten all about pens with the small LCD clock in the top piece. I had one way back in the day. Thanks for rolling the dice to create a new pen haul video.

    A lot of sprung clips. Having purchased a couple of pen lots, they aren't worth the disappointments regardless of value. My ceiling was $50. You have my sympathy...
    Great coverage as usual.

    Yeah I have definitely been there before. You're smart to be looking at some of these for parts while others would be throwing them away. That desk pen refill and the old long Schmidt refill make me think that a line up of different refills, vintage to modern, would look cool in a framed display case that you might be able to hang up.

    Pretty much my experience most of the time I "pen-gamble" on ebay. Yes, I have scored some nice pens in the past (like Parker 180 or vintage, almost mind Watermans), but after that, desert. I think people are catching up and some of the adds are pretty much scams, using knock-off Parkers as a bait to buy a lot full of crap. I avoid Parker pens if they are not some vintage, very recognisable, not easily replicated model (like 180) but it looks to me that season of cheap, good pens from reputable makers is behind us. My last good catch was Sheaffer Snorkel from late 1950s for 20 USD, not spotless but amazing for that kind of money.
    Edit: That multipen in 8:45, you still can buy them new, for 2-4 Euros. I know them under Concorde brand, and this specific version is made in the Czech Republic. Trusty companion to every elementary school teacher since the 1990s.

    Schmit rollerball. Not PARKER. And there are Jotters, literally. Cross type refillers and, any of the pocket clips tweaked, are good for the bin, recyling bin. Not done for the refills. You have tons of them. As for the Multi-Pen in One, just go for a way less expensive Japanese multi drop in from the top. Much better deal.

      Yea good call on the rollerball, thanks for that

    Bummer! But it's all part of the hunt. I scored pens on FB marketplace based on okish side profile photos. The price was right and if just one was what I thought it was, would be an amazing deal.

    What do you do with all these pens? I sort of feel guilty because I love thinking too much about what pen would write best

  • @sarbeanicolae
    @sarbeanicolae 11 месяцев назад +1

    That is a rOtring Tikky 1 aluminium, rare and valuable in good condition.
    The 2 rollerballs are not Parker, just fake copies that use standard rollerball refills. The original Parker IM is using Parker rollerball refills and cannot take European refills.
    The multipens are cheap one, possible made in Hungary. To change the refill you need to slide the button down and grab it out, and push back the new one while you hold down the slider. It use the D1 refills. Do not touch the inner springs, once you have done that the pen is completely ruined.

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the tip on the Parker, that makes sense actually. And you are right the multi pens- once that inner spring is messed up these are done for.

    Great video, I am new to the channel and I love the pen lot videos. What do you do with all of the pens that you deem to be a total loss?

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  11 месяцев назад +2

      I'd say it depends. If they have some historic value, like the rotring I'll save them for reference. If they still write I'll use them in a junk drawer or for outside work. I give away a lot of pens, as you've probably guessed
