- Telfar is one of the most successful modern luxury fashion companies in recent years, made even more impressive that its still owned by Telfar Clemens, the original business owner and creative director. Telfar is famously a favourite of celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce for its everyone is welcome mindset that brings true accessibility to the luxury market. I very much look forward to a store opening for Telfar in the near future as I respect and admire his work so much

Can't lie the thumbnail always pulls you in
That Kirby effect 🤣
Telfar is seriously a revolutionary, the ridiculous level of zeitgeist potential his brand has is so scrumptious and FRESH , love that his brand is synonymous with his image and personality, that man is a ball of genius
I really hope his clothes are able to catch on soon as his bags were
contacting the VP of a company through customer service is crazy thats fire
Im so intrigued as to HOW???? Either crazy luck or the VP is super nice
Loved when you say; '...the brand was unequally critiqued because of Telfar's race...the repetitive reduction of his brand by the media is very uncomfortable, and its easily tokenism used to minimise his talent and unique point of view'
Amen, @understitch what a summation, I'm glad that he continues to prove how much of a creative genius he is, but also in business as well! He deserves much-continued success!
Its very important, the way black creators are often unfairly treated in the media often heavily impacts their ability to reach the same exposure as a white counterpart would be able to. Without talking about it, the history of the brand wouldnt be complete and in a way I would be complicit in allowing racism to continue

I think you missed a valuable opportunity to surpass the other analysis’ of Telfar that you mentioned. His childhood may not seem to have much bearing on his brand and ethos but I think his race does. His collabs with White Castle, Kmart and Rainbow have a different connotation when factoring in who he is. These are all brands that are routinely found in or are loved by black communities. Similarly, he recently announced an innovative pricing model that will reward early adopters and in effect punish trend chasers. Considering the largest portion of his consumers are the same people who created streetwear style and can often be seen at the forefront of trends, it’s an interesting move to say the least and is already being taken by some as a nod to the community.
I had a whole section on his pricing strategy and on Telfar day too and it had to get cut for time, but you're so right
What’s the early adopter program called? I’d like to do more research
Thank you! Period! I don’t know why people ALWAYS ignore Black successful people’s race. It’s so annoying.
is this channels creator white? that would explain the oversight
I love their approach of democratising a premium brand, blurring the lines between the everyday ❤
i love how informative but easy to understand these videos are
Thank you so mich 💕
Can’t help but
Be proud of him
Right? He seems like such a deserving person
We appreciate the way you create these videos for us. You really go into detail with everything. More blessings to you all the way.
Im so glad you enjoyed the video! Telfar has such an inspiring story
He’s truly a genius. The fact that he sells his bag at a certain time and price brings demand. And his items are great quality ✨
Oh my gosh, absolutely genius, he is one of the best business minds of our generation I think. Not everything he does is going to work, and that’s what makes him so genius, I hope he stays in business for a long time
However they lack quality. People buy them just to say they have one. He is winning due to consumerism. He found a niche. There’s better quality by black designers, around the same price point, and more creative.
I remember reading about his brand is Essence Magazine in the early 2000
wow he has come a long way since then
I see Telfar as being the Coach, MK for millennials. Not ground breaking bags. Reasonably priced but a financial beast. The last truly commercial black designer was Willie Smith and he died before he reached his peak. Amazing video. As a Af American, thank you for NOT making it seem like black people just arrived in America and are copying white designers. It’s usually the opposite. I’m looking at you Gucci with your well deserved colab with Daper Dan.
PPS. Please do a Daper Dan video
Dapper dan is 100% on my list, most because he’s incredibly important yo to fashion history, but also because he’s a really important person to Black history. He was used for his ideas by so many for so long without any credit. I’m glad that the hip-hop community really championed him when seemingly nobody else would, absolutely loves him, think he’s a genius
@@understitchYT just discovered your channel and as a long time fashion lover. I hope you’ll do more designers of color. Hispanic and Native American designers get almost no press. Asian designers are finally breaking through but they now have the market to do so. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Also I’m gonna dig into your videos to see if there’s a “Rise an Fall of Gloria Beckham” Luke Maher from Haute LeMode said…”VB is Zara clothes in expensive fabrics” Find the lie…😂
I am in love with your detailed videos !!! ❤
Thank you so much Fabia, Im always so happy to see you back 🙏🙏
This was so good! I’m a handbag designer and all of your videos are so helpful. Thank you!
Im so glad!! Please send me your brand on instagram 💕
Thank you for the well organized and yet easy understanding video. I'm starting my business of an online thrifting store in China, and definitely have got inspiration from you content as to enrich the content on my social media.
Then Im so glad to be helpful! Congratulations on the starting of your own company
Really excellent commentary and equally fantastic video editing! New subscriber 🤩
Thank you so much
love this analysis!!
Thank you so much 😇
another great video I really love your channel!! telfar is really incredible as far as attainable fashion because you see celebs and non celebs using his bags all the time because they just have such a good classic look. idk if youre interested in recommendations but i think jeremy scott would be a good person to cover.
I totally agree, Telfar has genuinely managed to do the ubiquitous, accessible brand that retains its value where so many others have failed, its very impressive. I adore Jeremy Scott, Ive been a fan of his for a long time, Id definitely love to cover his mainline as well as Moschino because they both have such interesting stories
Ugh love your videos the first one I watcjed was Miu Miu one I'm always want to know more about the brand now telfare thank you for this ❣️🥰
So glad that you enjoy them 🙌

Looks a lot like the Sergio Tachini logo.
He must've got some heat for it?
I did not know this designer. Now, I am now know where Kanye got the inspiration for fashion to be in garbage bags on display in pop-up stores.
I don’t know if they have too many things in common actually, I think that they evolved quite individually
I loved the Tunicas he designed for the Liberian tea
They were gorgeous
this is great lol i voted for telfar and you haven't disapointed too make a in depth and interestsing vid about him
Im thinking Marine Serre will be next week, she also has such a great story to her brand 💪
Really enjoying your videos! I just have a couple points of suggestion:
You use the word “depredation” which means to rob or plunder, and I think you actually meant to use “deprivation”.
Also, you use the word “infamous” which means to have a very bad reputation, but from the context I think you actually meant to use “famous”.
I went back to check my script, I had depravity written, so I guess I just misspoke, but youre so right about infamous, i thought it was notirious/famous/with reputation, but not inherently negative. Turns out i was wrong, so thank you for that
4:08 I was at that show. My ex and he were very good friends and 5:10 we partied together a lot. One of the loveliest people I have ever met. Telfar deserves everything
Oh thats so great to hear! I love this wave of ny designers, they all seem so genuine
@@understitchYT I luv that generation of designers it was really cool being a fly on the wall for it
@@elihyland4781 Shame I was 20,000 miles away ahahha
Bro a genius
He really is
tbh im still waiting for him to suddenly announce a permanent store location the same way that brandon blackwood did the other day
100% yes, this will happen and it will be a phenomenon when it does. Did you see theyre selling wallets now? SOOOO NIIIIICE

13:40 - Mistake - You said 2 million in profit while high lighting the text that says revenue. Very different thing.
oh good catch 🤌
omg you sound like LDShadowlady
I had to look her up, 6 million subs I wish I was her!
Rihanna and LVMH could take some notes.
Right!! His business model is so much clearer, and he did it without the millions of dollars LVMH poured into it!!

But if everyone has it, is it even a luxury good?
There are many things that make a product of luxury, scarcity as one, perception is another, wuantity or quality too, you could definitely argue that this is a luxury. But also, on the same vein, you see more people with the Louis Vuitton monogram, that’s also made of plastic (vegan leather), probably costs about the same to make as a Telfar bag, but it’s sold for significantly more profit, I think you’ve considered one as a luxury good, then so is the other.
are you a woman
