Im also a maximalist in my personal style, but I think this style was also maximalist in construction, it took that beat up aesthetic to a real extreme, so I appreciated that (not that I own any Yeezy tbh) Also, Mugler you say? You may enjoy a video I have coming soon 🧐
Oh let me include this because it was actually in the news. Kanye literally went to the poorest area in LA: Skid Row to “donate” his “white life matters” shirts. No pants, no shoes, no winter clothing… just white life matters shirts. He’s trying to make a point and he doesn’t care who he has to run over to prove it. He’s just embarrassing.
John Galliano being anti-semitic: We celebrate 🥳🎉 Kanye West being anti-semitic: Boooooo 😡😾 I can't understand the hypocrisy of these fashion elitists. The fact that Alexander Wang, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Peter Nygard, etc., didn’t receive as much criticism from the fashion industry as Kanye West did for something far less egregious is really telling.
How is oversized clothing pioneering? Ppl have been wearing this way since the 80's, as a uniform on the daily. Just bc it's a trend now doesn't make it visionary. His pieces are not prototypes of what we see in today's oversized.
The silhouettes from the 80s are different and largely based on or inspired by 40s style clothing or zoot suiter culture. Each of these were pioneering in changing the fashion of their day. They helped change the way fashion was interpreted for their generations. The trend of oversized streetwear had been coming out of london for a while too, based off of the chav culture, there were brands that heightened it, like Nasir Mazhar and Christopher Shannon, although there were international brands championing oversized clothes too, like Juun.J with their neoprene sweatshirts in 2013. What Yeezy did was to take that idea and bring it to a way that was accessible to all people, both into and not into fashion. This is pioneering for the industry and hasn't been done on such a wise scale for men since Hedi Slimane popularised skinny jeans again (after they were popular in the 80s known as drainpipes)
Those people were wearing Yeezy just because they wanted whatever is attached to any famous people to feel like they belong, in this case Kanye's stuff but the clothes in general are hideous.
I think that was part of the argument very early on when the brand started, but I think over the years approved itself to be a legitimate design house, bro are some of the most influential designers that we have today like Demna and Mowalola
I think (could be wrong) he still gives 10% of his income to charity, if I got that right from the documentary he did, but yeah, your point still stands
Heyy. New Subscriber here, LOVEEE your videos. You do such a fantastic job with the history and breaking down each designer and relevant collections. I absolutely love Kane, Ive followed his brand right from the early days, I honestly expected his comeback last season to be much bigger than it was, there are so few searches for him, such a shame
😮💨Even though Nike does well on their own, I know they kicked themselves in the a$$ for how well he did with Adidas. That small compromise he wanted, would've had them in that position. Having a former designer go to the opposing brand and do what he did was wild! I LOVE IT!
Thank you for also drawing light on the many anti-black things and actions Kanye has said and done as well as the anti-semitism. It is most definitely the 'rise and fall' although he still does have his tribe of sycophants that will follow him wherever he goes. We cannot stand with any form of bigotry in this day, we must come together against it! Thanks for always providing well-thought-out and researched videos! i have watched them all xx

Ye has always been immune to cancellation. Now he's facing his biggest challenge yet when it comes to it but he'll make it out unscatched. He did push his luck pretty hard this time though.
I don´t think this endeavour was actually that influential. It is one of the many cases when the general public taste (or at least a certain segment of the public) aligned with the vision of certain stylist. The problem with Yeezy clothing is that they were NOT designs, they were styles (as per CSM Central Saint Martins critique at the time). The clothing looked the way it looked because of the show and the scenography around it, not because of the clothing. And there were brands that already did it, such as G-Star.
Fall this is wrong fall is when something or someone merch or someone product doesn’t sell at all Yezzys are still expensive and it prices will go up crazy
Thats the resale market, of course their worth will go up if the company stops producing things. I dont think Yeezy will be gone forever, but Ill be interested to see what happens to the cost of the older shoes on resale then
The intellectual property of Yeezy is from Ye, many brands have design teams, pattern cutters, seamstresses as he did. Thats why the title of head designer was changed to creative director years ago. People pay for your idea not something you design yourself now
@@understitchYT All the design of the shoes are adidas design/exclusive property like Nike 'Air' sole and logo, Adidas boost sole and other original Adidas design/fabric etc, there's nothing uniquely or original about 'Yeezy' he tries to make it seem like an actual brand but it's even less so than Jordan
@@shaunharn1998 Though that may be true, the branding of Yeezy is his own and with it the shoes sell more, theres consumer percieved worth in the name alone
I love that you follow the numbers and documentation instead of falling for the “it’s beyonce so she will sell out of everything” fallacy. The commercials, the ads, even the products were made for her! So why would someone like me buy it? I’m not surprised it did not sell as well as they thought. A 93 million dollar profit looks good but I’m pretty sure they cost an arm and leg to make so, they really didn’t make a profit. Probably barely broke ramen status with beyonces expensive taste 😅
I think numbers are more important than my opinion. Also, i really dont have much of an opinion on any celebrity tbh, music, film and tv arent really my area of interest
the kids see ghosts camp flog gnaw merch and other merch should have been included. those might not be as much of Yeezy fashion per-se but extremely important to the growth and mass-market acceptance of the brand.
I’m impressed that he can handle so much turmoil for so long, makes me wonder how you can be an outcast as a designer within the industry and still be relevant to his consumers. Just like how Steve Jobs was treated in his tech community before his rise. The end consumers finally dictated his success. In conclusion, the purists in the industry will always be judgmental. Virgil tried to cater his brand to both of what he terms as “purists” and “tourists”, and I believe we should look at Kanye simply as tourists. Looking at the bigger picture as a “tourist” makes Kanye look like a genius critic of the modern fashion era. One of the few non conforming artists and designers out there, the true meaning of being a avant-garde in a well established industry is to go against it. Showing us how style isn’t individualistic but entirely compliant to herd mentality and how celebrities perceive and advertise them. The colors in many seasons are muted and dystopian, they are a representation of an unwanted future and not meant to be worn popularly. A slavery themed, monochromatic collection represents Kanye’s mind, his ultimate fear of obedience, compliance, homogeneity and control yet a collection that resonates entirely that. Kanye isn’t going to fall for too long. He did several times and got back up again. This whole BLM and MAGA controversy is just a matter of perspective, it’s a divisive topic but not unanimously controversial. Many people applaud his stance as much as hate him for it. I mean, WTAPS have literal communist symbols on their clothing but no one bats an eye. I think we should look at him philosophically instead of looking at how his clothing matches with our closet.
This is so incredibly smart, you explain his contribution to fashion really well, and I really really agree that he concep tually was so important to fashion evolution. But the one thing that I think is important to note, is that this was the first big outcry for the Yeezy brand for having such negative racist messages. The vast majority of the scandals before were only based on Kanye the person, not Yeezy the brand, or were largely limited to the clothes. The reason it was so bad this time was because he took his own agenda to the clothes, and it overpowered the message and people didn’t want to support that. I genuinely believe if he didn’t have the WLM shirts in the last show, they wouldn’t have needed to cut ties with Kanye at all, because then it wouldn’t have been associated with the brand, just with Kanye
@@understitchYT There’s certainly a difference between joining people to a common interest and acting entitled as a moral judge. I think that’s how Yeezy stepped in unwisely. No matter how well intentioned it may be, an electric car company shouldn’t make other car owners feel bad or guilty, instead share their passion with like minded people. As a person Kanye is completely entitled to his opinion but business wise I agree with you. I think you shouldn’t mix in personal opinions of polemic issues with your business. Our world is so complex that there are always things we can disagree with one another. If Kanye wants Yeezy to attract customers, shareholders and investors, he should do so bringing people together and finding some sort of common ground.

As much as I dislike the man, Steve Jobs actually had Wozniak to build the machines for him and their products were actually useful while also being "trendy" and overpriced. That is how they remained in business..ie by adapting to the market and producing useful products. Kanye does not produce anything useful anymore, its all garbage... its just that Kanye and his fans do not yet realize that fact.

Sad tbh, seeing another person succumb to narcissism and internal mental health conflicts. His fans will still support him regardless of his misogyny and antisemitism though so I do wonder how long this controversy will last
I agree really and Im also so curious to how long itll last
Idk how he was able to keep going when it was continuously bad from the start
you think? I know it wasnt immediately accepted, but it quickly changed fashion globally and I think thats a real achievement
would love to get a hedi slimane video from you x
Its absolutely planned for the future. I would like to start a series about the people behind the brands, Hedi, Kanye, Karl etc but I want a good foundation of brands first before I branch out to a second series 🥳
If Ye's clothing and shoes were the cost of things at Zara, Top Shop, Uniqlo or H &M it would be good.
I think he was trying to head that way but the company was so expensive with his head designers and manufacturing/distribution chain being a problem for the company
@@understitchYT Yeah. There must have been a lot of people to pay for their role in the brand.
@@bkbx718good And theyre all such top designers, demna, mowalola etc, major players
@@understitchYT That's a good point. Their talent must be an elite level. I hope that the falling apart of the Yeezy brand doesn't hurt them professionally or personally. It's hard to rebound with something changes so suddenly.
@@bkbx718good Luckily the designers were never at fault with anything to do with the brand, so if anything Id imagine being a part of this would help them...at least I can hope that
So happy I discovered this channel❤🐐
Being bipolar is not an excuse for this behave, I live with bipolar disorder for more than a decade, I had maniac episodes and know these very well, I end up I hurting myself, spent money I dont have in useless things, and picked fights with strangers on the street ( You know, paranoia and etc...) but being racist, homophobic, transphobic, is another thing. If you are bipolar, had a maniac episode, and ended up being racist, its because deep inside you are racist. Being Bipolar does not make you prejudiced.
From what Ive read this is true. I really appreciate your input on this as someone living with BP, he is often excused of his behaviour because he is a ‘suffering artist’ and simply, youre right, that these words dont come from thin air, theres a rooted problem he needs to sort out
Coming back to this with his new “Business venture” can’t wait till he gets back to Music and Fashion since I love both!
Yeah, he certainly an interesting person to watch
The devil works fast, but understitch works faster
for me collecting Yeezy Season pieces is more on a sentimental level , I don't care where the brand goes that much , I wanna look at my Yeezy Season 3 boots and be reminded of that legendary day at MSG .
I'm glad that you took the time to find something that resonated with you that even post all the drama, it holds personal value. Thats really great
If designers, brands, sponsors, and banks dropped Ye.
Consider pretty much all consumers. Ye has offended all groups. There is no second chances. Once you fuck up. Bipolar is no excuse.
I mean, if you look through the comments even of this video, you can see that he has a massive following still, I really think he might manage to make a very successful comeback in the future, regardless of whether that’s just or not
Your work is superb, and improves the quality of my life. Many thanks to you, and every wish for your continued and ever-increasing success. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you Mike, thats such a lovely thing to read 🥰
Ye is actually more influential in fashion than in his music it's actually SURREAL! too bad he couldn't shut his mouth
Couldnt agree more, he LITERALLY changed the way everyone dresses
Why should he shut his mouth?
I must move in the wrong circles because I don't know anyone who owns or wears Yeezy. The popularity of the brand doesn't make sense to me, but I'm more of a maximalist (Westwood, McQueen, Gaultier, and Mugler are brands I enjoy), so I'm not the demographic.
Im also a maximalist in my personal style, but I think this style was also maximalist in construction, it took that beat up aesthetic to a real extreme, so I appreciated that (not that I own any Yeezy tbh)
Also, Mugler you say? You may enjoy a video I have coming soon 🧐
@@understitchYT😅
Oh let me include this because it was actually in the news. Kanye literally went to the poorest area in LA: Skid Row to “donate” his “white life matters” shirts. No pants, no shoes, no winter clothing… just white life matters shirts. He’s trying to make a point and he doesn’t care who he has to run over to prove it. He’s just embarrassing.
I dont understand what was the point of that at all, it seems quite insulting to them
John Galliano being anti-semitic: We celebrate 🥳🎉
Kanye West being anti-semitic: Boooooo 😡😾
I can't understand the hypocrisy of these fashion elitists.
I didn't know this was a fashion brand... I thought they were just overpriced adidas sneakers.

Heyy. New Subscriber here, LOVEEE your videos. You do such a fantastic job with the history and breaking down each designer and relevant collections. I just saw the Simone Rocha video and would love if you could do one on Christopher Kane! I feel like he was everywhere then quickly no one cared as much anymore? I’d also love to hear your opinions on the fairly new Parisian brand CASABLANCA which everyone seems to be obsessed with now. Keep up the great content! :)
I LOVE IT!
I agree, very foolish of Nike at that time, but perhaps it wasnt meant to be, Im sure theyre glad not to have the recent negative pr from it
Thank you for this history. Is West considered the creative director of Yeezy? Are there named creative's who design the clothes and accessories?
I dont think so actually, but they did have a really great team back in the day
I don’t think Yeezy is going anywhere ❤
I think it will come back, the name has incredible presence
The answer for Yeezy's success is they fired and buy all out from Kanye West.. K West only the cursed of the company..
This easily going to be your most viewed video!
So far its doing well, but Im not sure how long the Yeezy buzz will go on, so I can only hope 🥹
Nah, you’re doing great content! Plus Ye can’t stop making people talk about him, so is gonna go on
That Season 4 show sounds like Kanye West trying to make a statement about how slavery is a choice 🤦♀
Did you see the people in LA on the bridge with the ‘kanye was right about the jews’ sign? Its really awful that they are putting their agenda before his own well being

@@understitchYT Have you done any research about what he said? What about the movie Kyrie was speaking about? They go hand in hand.
Ye can bring Yeezy back if he follows the D&G model of reversing a cancelation 🐸🍵
I think thats what will happen, but perhaps without Ye
Ye has always been immune to cancellation. Now he's facing his biggest challenge yet when it comes to it but he'll make it out unscatched. He did push his luck pretty hard this time though.
I really agree with what you said, hell be back, but hopefully with a more supportive team
lets not forget that he designed SKIMS. that's all kanye.
it certainly looks very Kanye influenced
I don´t think this endeavour was actually that influential. It is one of the many cases when the general public taste (or at least a certain segment of the public) aligned with the vision of certain stylist. The problem with Yeezy clothing is that they were NOT designs, they were styles (as per CSM Central Saint Martins critique at the time). The clothing looked the way it looked because of the show and the scenography around it, not because of the clothing. And there were brands that already did it, such as G-Star.
I loved his interview with Lex! He explains once AGAIN what’s going on.
That he is suffering serious mental health issues is apparent
Fall this is wrong fall is when something or someone merch or someone product doesn’t sell at all Yezzys are still expensive and it prices will go up crazy
Thats the resale market, of course their worth will go up if the company stops producing things. I dont think Yeezy will be gone forever, but Ill be interested to see what happens to the cost of the older shoes on resale then
Not the Trisha Paytas of fashion 😂😂😂😂
Did I liiieeeee?
It’s not even a real brand, it’s all just other brands paying him to use his name, he doesn’t make his own shoes or products.

YZY is in an even weirder place right now
Im finding it interesting because its so unlike anything else
Was it ever a beginning besides the shoes I don’t know who bought his clothing.
Oh, it’s sold very very well, I think
He needs to take a break
Would probably be for the best yeah
All I know is that the style of his clothes ads atrocious imo
They changed fashion completely, actually, he still has huge influence on style today
Anyone notice the wolfsangel in yeeZy?
What does beyonce have to do with Kanye's downfall or brand? Lol
I hope the 700's continue.
Revival wasn't that great but it didn't deserve to be used as a wallpaper for yeezy ads 😂
I find it quite funny that people praise Alexander McQueen for being controversial but when Kanye does it, it suddenly becomes taboo.
Oh they didnt at first, McQueen was very heavily criticised for it at first, it took a long long time for the criticisers to come around
I would love if u did a marc jacobs video!!
100%!!!! Would love this !!!
the kids see ghosts camp flog gnaw merch and other merch should have been included. those might not be as much of Yeezy fashion per-se but extremely important to the growth and mass-market acceptance of the brand.
Hot take: yeezy were never drip for me.
They were never my personal style byt I knew they were influential
Rise a rise !
na na na na, hey hey hey, bye bye (Ye West)
Is this a Hocus Pocus reference??
@@understitchYT What self respecting human with mouths to feed, responsibly takes out multiple several million dollar million loans in addition to several multiple million dollar mortgages on royalties, then shits all over the touring companies to try to be a unicorn ? YZY does lol. This isn't $53 million in debt, this is a text book case in a sharp and painful correction that's all self inflicted.
