1 of the best all around performances of all time. When Penny went on his streaks he was unstoppable.I remember in 2001 when he and Vince Carter kept going back and fourth at one another throughout the whole quarter neither of them could miss that was fun to watch.Penny ate Pat Riley's Miami Heat for a midnight snack,Then decided to break Tim Hardaway's ankles just for shits n giggles,Nobody cant touch Penny in his prime!
Penny was a point guard, yes. A great PG before he got hurt. But putting Armstrong in at PG and moving Penny to the 2 guard was absolutely the best move in this series. It's 100% obvious if you remember this series. They got crushed worse than any team has ever gotten crushed in the first 2 and 1/4 games of the series before that move was made. Then after the move they damn near won the series.
real talk one 1 on 1 there was no one who could guard him i just imagine what he would have been able to do if not for injuries but injuries or not hes one of the greatest ever
Love the video man. My all time favorite player. Still pissed about the heat cutting him this year. Easily one of the best players ever in my book, who knows how far he wouldve gone without the injuries. This vid is a reminder of how dominant he could be without shaq, to any haters that try to say otherwise.
penny was magnificient my favorite player back then youngens probably don't know of him as a magic he did what lebron and bigger guards do today at a very lean and slim 195 frame i don't care what anybody thinks penny was the man MAN he shouldn't of rushed his injury comeback but oh well he definitely was a great great entertaining player hope he gets hof
I paused it right there too, after hearing that dumb comment. Penny was a point gaurd, and the reason he didn't look the same more besides his injuries was because they wanted him to play shooting gaurd, but his natural position was always the point gaurd, and one of the best ever. For the short time did he played in Orlando before the injuries

Actually, Scott Skiles was the point guard when Hardaway joined Orlando in 1993. Doc Rivers' point on the telecast was that Hardaway wasn't a true point guard. Instead, he was more of a big "combo guard" who never averaged more than 7.2 assists in a season but could really score. He could pass, too, but he was almost more in the Jordan mold, only not as strong and consistently brilliant.
@mikelmok Actually, both teams combined to shoot 49 threes that game. The three-point shot has always been a huge part of the game since it was incorporated.
Back then, a lot of basketball pundits would make the argument that Penny would never reach his full potential until he moved over to the SG/SF postion. The truth is however, Penny was never really comfortable being a scorer. Although he could score almost at will, he knew his best asset was being a playmaker. Besides, scorers come a dime a dozen but gift playmakers only come along ever so often.
I didint know shaq had to take winning shots to win the game i didint know shaq ran the offense making plays ofcourse it was penny hes the point guard the floor leader penny made shaq look like he lead the magic but it was penny's passing, shooting and IQ that made shaq looked good
@flossbee volume scorers, especially now come dime a dozen. Anyone can score with a hot hand, many touches and shooting attempts. But Penny was hella efficient due to his acumen and expanded skill set, more so than the players who play like him nowadays. Being able to score, make the most of your touches while playing good defense and getting the team involved are much harder to find.
Yeah Doc Rivers was a idiot for that statement...Penny could handle the ball better than most smaller point guards and he had the size to play the 2 and the 3...This guy was extremely talented and I hate the injuries got the best of him!!! It takes me to watch these old games to remember how good this dude actually was...
damn he was sick he is a smaller lebron they way he attacked the paint he isnt forgotten about every player in the league now compares there game to his ..when players rush back from injuries bad things happen smh
And Penny averaged less points than Shaq when they were together because he didn't wanna steal his spotlight. Unlike a certain someone that plays for the LA Lakers, Penny wasn't a selfish player and he allowed Shaq to be the "man" of the team since Shaq joined the team before he did. The truth is the Magic really became an elite teams because of players like Penny and Horace Grant. Shaq would've been like KG in Minnesota if Penny/Grant weren't on the team, Shaq had it easy compared to Garnett.
Alright then, so the point is without great teammates and a coach that knows to how to adjust Shaq's stats wouldn't have meant shit. Just like how Garnett's and Allen's careers were wasted before he went to the Celtics. I honestly could careless how many points Shaq scored, I'm not obsessed with stats like you are. Punk.
Yeah, that's like saying that Magic or Big O were 2 guards trying to play the PG position simply because they are bigger than the prototypical PG....another reason of why Doc is so stupid and lucked into the title last year. If they don't repeat, it will be because of Doc.
Why you removed your comment brah?!? LOL Shaq did not make the playoffs his 1st year! He made the playoffs his 2nd year because he had a good PG in Penny and they made the Finals the next year because of Horace Grant's playoff experience. Take Horace Grant off the team in '95 and the Magic would've gotten a 2nd round exit, hell probably would've gotten another 1st round exit. So keep talkin shit son!
@AarHart1985 hahahah how many championships did he have? How many years did he play at least 80% of the year? LMAO and he didn't break anyones ankles...Tim never guarded him.
Thank youuuuuu!
Waiting for this one for yearsssssssss!
God bless youuuuu
They just showed Game 5 on SunSports. Classic.
One of my favorire games ever...except when nick anderson hit the three against the lakers....but what an awesome game...thans for putting it up.
Thanks for posting this, awesome game. Remember watching it.
One of the best single performance I had ever seen 🐐 😇

Damn, Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Tracy Mcgrady, and Brandon Roy. Imagined what these player couldve if it wasn't for the injuries smh.
Penny was a point guard, yes. A great PG before he got hurt. But putting Armstrong in at PG and moving Penny to the 2 guard was absolutely the best move in this series. I WILL NEVER EVER 4GET HOW GREAT PENNY WAS. HE WAS MAGIC AND MJ ROLLED INTO 1. NUMBER 1 ALWAYS
real talk one 1 on 1 there was no one who could guard him i just imagine what he would have been able to do if not for injuries but injuries or not hes one of the greatest ever
One of the greatest Penny Hardaway
Penny is my GOAT without injuries.

Penny was a GREAT player. His career ended way to short. he would have been included in the greatest players of all time discussion.
this is why penny hardaway is my favorite player of all-time. right in front of mj.
I was just explaining this to someone the other day: That Jordan is the greatest player ever, but Penny is my favorite player ever
I paused it right there too, after hearing that dumb comment. thats why he broke tim hardaway's ankles at 3:06 bahaha "snap"
@mikelmok
Actually, both teams combined to shoot 49 threes that game. The three-point shot has always been a huge part of the game since it was incorporated.
both Hardaway's were great players...unfortunately, injuries took their toll on both of them..
Back then, a lot of basketball pundits would make the argument that Penny would never reach his full potential until he moved over to the SG/SF postion. Tell me that doesn't look like T-Mac. Magic had a series of great #1's.
Well...except for Christie. Ugh.
Oh and also Shaq having Phil Jackson also helped him, before Phil Jackson showed up I remember Shaq always getting destroyed in the playoffs.
@flossbee volume scorers, especially now come dime a dozen. Anyone can score with a hot hand, many touches and shooting attempts. Gary Thompson magic is the best
@Domini478 i only you would tell me everything in my face

Just like how Garnett's and Allen's careers were wasted before he went to the Celtics. I honestly could careless how many points Shaq scored, I'm not obsessed with stats like you are.
Punk.
Penny should have been able to eat MJ's lunch. But he lacked the drive and shear competitiveness.
Yeah, that's like saying that Magic or Big O were 2 guards trying to play the PG position simply because they are bigger than the prototypical PG....another reason of why Doc is so stupid and lucked into the title last year. If they don't repeat, it will be because of Doc.
@AssHat1985 lmao yeah and Ryan Leaf had potential, too. Look how that turned out? They both SUCKED...hahaha

Hardaway sucked...Tim Hardaway was the man.
