Penny Hardaway (38pts) vs. Bulls (1996 Playoffs)

  • Penny Hardaway has an incredible Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 by scoring 38 points (15/21 FG) on Scottie Pippen with acrobatic layups, dunks and even a halfcourt buzzer beater. Too bad that all of his team-mates (except Shaq) didn't show up and Magic still got blown out by 38. Of course, MJ and Scottie wouldn't let this happen again as Penny struggled the rest of the series by scoring only 18 (6/15 FG), 18 again (8/24 FG) the next two games, only to come back with 28 (9/21 FG) during the last game of the sweep. May 19, 1996.

Kenny Dupree Absence of Penny and Hill led to a vacuum of selfless leadership filled by many players misapplying MJ's example as a me first dunk first win second lesson, and not understanding the game. Hence you had the Starburies. Had Penny and Hill been healthy, it would have been a more fluid transition, and arguably, LBJ and today's players (a great generation of talent, good dudes, and talent) might be even better having seen more of those two, and not having experienced their premature injury shortened careers.
