Programs like QuickTime, Apple Software Updates, Java, Flash and Shockwave, Microsoft Silverlight and more.

How do I know which Microsoft C++ libraries I can remove? There are far too many.
I use CCleaner Pro with no problems. Once again, excellent videos, and you have helped in the past.
@@SoulPoetryandOtherWorks Same boat here. I have several apps from the Microsoft store that install Microsoft C++ that are recent apps that I use.
Itunes... so...how do we convert iTunes library to????
I remember when a lot of these apps were promoted as the way, the truth, and the light....but nothing lasts forever. I uninstalled roxio, system mechanic and most avanquest stuff as out date.. system mechanic was hard to uninstall...had to root around in the registry.
I use iTunes on Windows 10. I agree with you that Microsoft doesn't update any Apple products, but Apple does. I've gotten several updates for iTunes over the last couple months for my iTunes program. I don't think you should tell people to uninstall it if they paid tens if not hundreds of dollars for content and all they have is a Windows computer.
So his point was that Microsoft should be responsible for updating them? I am confused with his point about Microsoft doing updates for Itunes etc.
@@AndersHass Microsoft doesn’t update iTunes! However, there’s a program on your computer called Apple Software Update . (If it’s not on your computer you download it.) When this program is started, it looks for apple products installed on your computer, such as iTunes. This program will tell you what version of iTunes it is going to download and install. You just click on the install section and the Updater will do the rest. When you click on the install section, you will get a message asking if you want this program to make changes to your hard drive. Click yes and you are on your way. However, sometimes the program will not update. The Apple Software Update gives you the chance to download only. Then you are able to install the new software. This has only happened to me very, very seldom. The Apple Updater works like it’s supposed to 99% of the time or more. Good luck updating your Apple software!! Or you are able to update iTunes from the iTunes program.
@@ronniedmiller8821 so Microsoft runs this apple software update?
I don't have any Apple software lol
Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to connect an iPad or iPhone to Windows without iTunes. Apple issues updates as needed.
There are many software companies besides Microsoft. The major companies do a very good job of keeping their customers safe.
My thoughts exactly. I agree with most of these but I still use iTunes for various things, including a couple movies that weren't able to be imported to my Vudu and Movies Anywhere libraries.
If you are using iTunes, or any apple application on your computer please do not remove apple software update. It make sure your apple application is uptodate and without it you can be opened up to malware and exploits by bad actors. If you want you can remove it and find alternatives like Cider for Apple Music, 3u tools for managing your device, etc.
Love your work. But your comment about iTunes is incorrect. (A few have mentioned it already). If you are an iOS device user (iPhone, iPad, Ipod) it is a needed tool. Especially for media management on those devices. It is updated by Apple and available on the MS app store.
Yes, Microsoft doesn’t update iTunes for the same reason that Microsoft doesn’t update Chrome or Acrobat or Fortnite. Stupid thing to say.
Absolutely right! Telling people they should remove itunes is irresponsible and quite frankly shows that this guy really shouldn't be dishing out advice. !! As for some of the other things, there are instances where people will have applications requiring them. So to give an absolute "you must should remove this" is just going to screw things up for people who don't know better.
The problem with removing iTunes is that a lot of people have iPhones and it's the only software that will sync your stuff back and forth without giving you a load of harrassment
Yeah, that is a problem.
I have iTunes on a Windows 10 Home laptop. It gets periodic updates.
@@brucefay5126 yeah I think he may have been thinking about the one in the windows App Store or Microsoft Store as some people call it you can still iTunes straight from Apple although it looks like the only place to get iCloud for windows is the windows store now.
It's almost like a preditory company has put a proprietary software forcing you to use it so that they may benefit for having their software on your computer. What could go wrong with that in the long term??
@@seangassin958 they have actually began to release a self service program for their products
The Java JRE is mainly a concern if you have the browser plugin installed. If you disable/remove Java in all your web browsers, it can't be triggered from the browser. Also the JDK includes the JRE files, so it's just as unsafe as the JRE.
You do NOT want to delete the C++ redistributables. Those could cause other programs not to work properly!!
Correction, there is in fact an Apple software that is run on Windows and is needed and that is for iCloud if you have Outlook and want to import your iCloud/Me email you have to have this in order for it to work.
he was very controversial (& wrong) to say uninstall all Apple software
i really love this channel, it helps me a lot ✌🏾😊
Happy to hear that!
You missed the largest, most bloated app that is completely riddled with security issues: Microsoft Windows.

Some mov file types can't be edited in video editors without without either QuickTime or QuickTime alternative on a system. You don't have to have the full program installed, just the bit that allows decoding and encoding. Installing VLC player does not help in this instance.
Java is where I got nightmares many years ago with all the virus, thanks for this video, glad you are doing more and more content !
Glad to help!
There will be a few edge cases where you may need some of the old software to run something. A good example is the Logitech Harmony remotes. The older ones only work with some of the original software, others will work with a more recent release of the software (Harmony 900 vs 300. I will grant you if you have a 300 you will want to swap that for a 900 soon, as they can end up no longer working due to issues with the eeprm in the remote).
Great video Brian i was looking out for a video like this for awhile and BAM here it is keep up the good work chap, have a blessed day.
Thanks, you too!
After effects and other programs like Maya require Quicktime elements to properly implement some of it's dependences and should be installed regardless but I hope things will change from Adobe's side. Thanks for the video
I know somethings use it, but they really need to move away from it if its not supported.
he's speaking under Windows topography not iOS and still a dinosaur of software seems not up to date, I think there may be better options even for Mac users

You may also want to remove the biggest security risk - Windows 10/11.
Just format the whole disk and install Linux :)
What he said.
How do you format it ?
Can you please add timestamps to your videos? It's difficult to search through your videos.
Valuable - maybe on any similar videos worth explaining more what these items used to be used for and how they've been rendered obsolete - you did that for flash but not java - thanks \m/
Great video as always 👍😀
Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us 👍😀
Thanks for watching!
Super useful as always
Strangely even though flash isn't used in webpages anymore it is still used in the tv industry. All the computer screens in the tv series Dark Matter were done with flash.
Why stop at programs?
I uninstalled the whole operating system!
Haven't looked back, ever.
Great channel!
thank you, i did not know about extensions. found one on there that was security risk that i didnt even know was on my pc.
Apple still sends updates for their apps through their updater app for Windows, so removing it doesn't mean software can't be updated.
They don't update Quicktime anymore. It's out of support.
The Java Runtime is still being updated regularly to fix security issues. I need it to run some programs that are part of a large suite of nuclear safety codes. I don't use it for anything online.
Same here!!
Thanks. Still had quicktime and silverlight.
Glad I could help
Question. Why would you uninstall iTunes? What security risks are there with having iTunes on a Windows machine to manage an iOS device?!
None really. This is a poor bit of advice. Which is unusual for this channel.
No security risks. Itunes is still updated and supported for Windows. Itunes for Mac Os and IOS is not supported anymore, but this is not true for windows.
In WIndows 10, there a way to remove Internet Explorer 11. Run - Optional Features. Uncheck Internet Explorer 11 to uninstall it
Hello, Davin. I'm glad I found your comment because I've been wondering about Internet Explorer since Microsoft installed Edge without me even asking for it. Actually, I hardly ever look into Edge (or IE before that), but wondered if it would give me some extra space if I removed IE.
I'm a woman of 71 who is self-taught, but am able to get around quite well on Windows 8.1 (I didn't want the free offer of W10). I regularly defragment and disk clean, and am always careful about not clicking on any unknown links. I know nothing about computer technology, but better safe than sorry.
Does your above recommendation work on W8.1 as well, and without affecting Edge?
Don't worry, I'm not looking for a massive amount of help from you, just a yay or nay about removing IE.
Thanks, Patricia.
@@EIRE55 I am not sure. You try and see if that works. Windows 8 was before Edge came put, so it may not be possible to remove Internet Explorer in older version of Windows prior to Windows 10
@@davinp
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
Yes, that's a good point and, when I think about it, even stranger that Microsoft would install Edge onto their older Windows versions (W7 as well).
I'll give it a go and see what happens but, either way, it doesn't worry me if I lose Edge at the same time as I'm removing IE because I don't use them. I've always used Google since I started my trials and errors in 2014 (NEVER Fakebook!).
Thanks again, and stay well, wherever you are.🙂
Windows programs you should uninstall: .......windows 11
Some good advice and some bad advice. Always check before uninstalling software in case you have any other apps you require to do work that are dependent on what you are uninstalling. Example specifically telling people to uninstall iTunes you do and if you are an iPhone / iPod user you won’t be able connect them to their pc properly. Let alone the nightmare of transferring files, music, etc. Please be more careful with your advice. Telling someone using iTunes on a windows pc is a big no no is like telling someone using chrome browser is a no no. Chrome is owned by google. They make chrome OS so should we buy a chrome book to use chrome browsers ? I think not. Telling someone to buy a Mac to be able to connect their phone is honestly a big waste of money. Please think your advice through thoroughly. Give this video 2.5 stars out of 5 based on that one major issue.
If you are using iphone, you need also apple software like itunes!
I uninstalled the main problem Windows 11! Love my i7 Chromebox, faster than anything Windows ever made and runs my Android apps.
The old adage, "There is no such thing as a free lunch.", is so applicable with the internet.
I still have a desktop running Windows 7 and still use iTunes. I also like to run with scissors. Great video as usual.
I hate Apple because they're so anti-DIY, but I'll never get rid of iTunes because It's the best piece of music software that I've found.
Try Foobar 2000, this is one of, if not the best audiophile player for Windows
@@No_Plastic Thanks, but from what I've read, it won't play Audible's AAX Audiobook files. iTunes does.
I keep iTunes to handle my iPhone and it is a great organiser for my MP3's

If it helps anyone, the desktop version of iTunes is available through the Microsoft Store without all the extra fluff you would get from the normal installer.

WOW! I'm amazed that iTunes is still around. I mean, I tried that total iTunes crap way back then when it first came to the PC, thought it was great and installed it, loaded on most of my tracks from my CD collection and immediately got clobbered the following day to find that the iTunes app had ONLY DRM'ed my collection saying I don't have the rights to the music and asking I pay £1.99 to download each track from the iTunes Store. Lucky I had backed up my CD collection. That was way back around 1997 and to this day I will never buy anything from Apple ever.
Some of the apple products are in the ms store.
itunes and icloud
Thank you kindly Brian
I have old version of games I like that uses flash that are install on my laptop. Removing Flash and shockwave would make those games stop working. As long you don't use the Flash online would be okay.
Bonjour is currently required on Windows PC for Mackie Sound mixers. So if you don't want to use a Apple product to control your Mackie sound Mixer, you will need to keep Bonjour, as Master Fader will not even load without it.
The point is, you may want to create a restore point before blindly uninstalled support programs like VC++, Bonjour, Silverlight, etc. While they might not be widely used, you might still have programs that require them. Not all software companies are quick to update. Medical Software is notorious for riding the trailing edge o f tech...partly due to FDA requirements..at least in the USA.
Great tips thanks
For video I highly suggest CCCP aka Combined Community Codec Pack. Hit it with an AC3 filter and you are golden.
When you installed on ITunes, Apple would install Bonjour. You don't need that, so you an uninstall it. As you know, Apple doesn't like its apps cross-platform for Windows
The number one program that you should uninstall immediately, is Windows itself
can't do that, I need it to play games , lol.
8:42 You don't have to go through the page to remove it, just close out of it.
Why uninstall`iTunes? It's no different to any other program and Apple update it!
Brictec09 some games need java to run like Minecraft java edition and car computer diagnoic hardware that plugs into a DLC connector in your car that the dealers use to read fault codes plus do by directional controls too
Do we need all the versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, or can I just keep the latest?
Didn't have any of the software you mentioned.
If you have different versions installed, different programs are using it (you can have a ton of them in the same machine). Do not uninstall them blindly.
@@MarcosRobertoDosSantosJF Yep, I just found that out. Kinda thought one might "break" something if you went and haphazardly uninstalled them, after all they['re there for a reason. Thanks for replying.
Sound advice, Brian. I have free CCleaner which is excellent. Tried VLC and don't like it.
Did no one read anyone else’s comment about iTunes we get it say something new
Microsoft does not update iTunes on Windows but apple still does updates occasionally. I have it installed and have used it for 17 years to sync my mp3 music library to my iPod and now my iPhone. I usually listen to my library every single day so I will be keeping it on my system. I also believe I need bonjour installed to install/run my 3D modelling software too. However, this is a good video as I've had most of the programs mentioned at one time or another.
Not fan as iTunes in 2022. Spotify does everything I need nowadays, but thanks for commenting and sharing your insight. Appreciate it
I need QuickTime for Office 2010. I have my reasons for using Office 2010.
1. It's lightweight on system resources.
2. It has features that Microsoft doesn't include in its office suite.

I don't get the issue with java. Unless you're not using java for any programs, getting updates / latest version would suffice since oracle is continually updating the JDK/JRE. Also if you don't know, the JRE IS INCLUDED with the JDK.
People have Iphones and when they need to update the Iphone or have sync with the laptop to have internet access with the Iphone you need Itunes.
Do you know about other programs that also give updates for the Iphone and give possibility to use Iphone as a hotspot for internet access for the laptop or computer?
Do you know other programs that can have access to the different programs that can have access to the apps on the Iphone?
There has not been other than Itunes where you can sync the Iphone and windows computer.
Just remember; don't uninstall Java if you play Minecraft!
I completely disagree with removing Java. It is still fully supported. I’m a Java developer.
Everytime you went to the program list at the uninstall menu, I was expecting chrome to be next. It's malware at this point, really.

@@SupremeNerd Not really. Chrome specifically is bloated with telemetry. google's business is selling users' data, I thought everyone should understand that simple fact by now. Your comment on how Microsoft doesn't update iTunes showed a complete lack of understanding of how software works.
So how do you code in Java if you remove jdk? Since when ist that end-of-live?
then dont. i am practicing android prog and jdk is a must. it's like in my previous company, they use visual studio 2012 which when installed, bloated with silverlight and blends and you couldnt do anything about it. actually, i recently installed visual studio 2022 and blends came with it even though i didnt check to install mobile development or wpf (blends is another IDE, another ram eater like visual studio)
Brian I take it that these uninstalls go for the Windows 10 system as well? Actually, I found that I still had Bonjour entries in the registry, so should you check the registry for the others you mention, or am I being a tad paranoid?
you can
most dont know what theyre doing with the registry and that's why it wasnt mentioned
I didn't understand what did you said but it seems important can you pls say it again? I have Uninstalled some of the apps he mentioned but my laptop became slower.. And before that I checked my laptob with CCleaner and it was okay
After deleting silverlight check your registry. I found over 800 references.
Silverlight is still used for some security camera dvrs.
Of all the browser extensions I use, Honey causes the biggest performance hit. I leave it off and only turn it on briefly to order pizza.
Hi, Just below the first paragraph is mentioned QuickTime 7.7.9. Are you also suggesting this be uninstalled too please? Interesting video.
Microsoft is responsible for Itunes updates on Windows? I would think it is Apple that made it and "maintain" it.
Correct. Microsoft have *never* updated "iTunes on Windows", or any other Apple software for that matter. It's available at the Microsoft Store, but of course only updated by Apple. It's the same the other way around: Apple haven't ever updated Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office/365, even though they're readily available in the Mac App Store and runs beautifully as native Mac programs on a Mac. But updates for MS Office and Outlook, Excel etc? Nah, it's of course only Microsoft who delivers those, regardless of from which store you purchase them.
Unfortunately in order to reload my public transport pass, JRE is a requirement.
Well some music/series/film are available on apple store but not any where else, and you can have an apple account even without using any Apple products, so removing all Apple seems to be a no no for me. Do you have any alternative to access your apple library without going on an apple hardware ?
If you have Windows 11 you can go to Microsoft store and you can get ITunes for Windows there. The downside it’s that is a large file

Hello, thank you for the video but iTunes is still receiving updates on Windows and without Bonjour and Apple Mobile Device Support we can’t connect our iPhones to backup/restore or transfer files even when using alternative softwares like 3uTools.

Quicktime, installed in May 2022, just to make point presentation about uninstalling it.
why WOULD microsoft update iTunes?? Apple would update the Windows versions if/when it does....that is like saying "remove Oracle database engine because Microsoft do not update it" which is silly it's an Oracle product

So what would be an alternative to iTunes in Windows?
I already uninstalled Windows for Linux. best decision I ever made.
Before the itunes thing, i'm ok with this video, but when you talked about itunes i was like "wtf this guy talking about?" itunes is official tool to connect to iphone, ipad if you are using apple device, apple always update it, it has nothing to do with microsoft or like other abandon (retired) programs.
Wow not one of these was in my windows 10 !
The information about uninstalling iTunes is complete BS. I'm not even an Apple fan and I can tell you it's fine. That software does still get updates frequently enough so saying "You should have just bought an iMac if you wanted to use Apple products" is utterly asinine. There are literally millions of people who have things like iPods and iPhones and run Windows machines.
What the heck does Java affect your system with?
Am on windows and I have Uninstalled some of the programs that was mentioned in the video and my laptop is now slower man I feel like hell am really sad cause my laptob was okay but now it's slower
Why does an app need to be supported? It doesn't. I still use apps from 20 years ago. They work just fine. This video is nonsense. Out with the old and in with the new is not always a good idea.
I agree. If an app is not a security risk (internet browser, password manager, antivirus, and so on) no need to uninstall just because it is old or unsupported.
I'm sorry, I disagree with iTunes and PowerDVD.
I have an Apple account despite not having an iPhone. I use Apple account for music purchases and I don't see any problem with having iTunes on my Win11.
As for Cyberlink PowerDVD I use it for my Bluray collection. Windows does not have any proper Bluray playback software, you can download DVD playback software from Microsoft Store, but you need PowerDVD to be able to play Blurays.
As for JRE, it is essential component to some piece of software in big enterprises, at least where I was doing my job. For private use you should skip it indeed.
Why isn't there a strong competitor for a pc operating system? All you ever hear about is linux, but because it's freeware most hardware manufacturers won't give it any love and treat it like the kid you keep locked in the attic away from everybody. We need competition so we can get a better, cheaper more user friendly OS.
I was watching the video and went to look this stuff up if it was installed. I was on running Fedora LOL
If you have a iPhone you want and need iTunes…. especially if you back up your phone on the pc… FYI
How about you don't install Windows in the first place then you don't have to remove it afterwards.
IMHO, when using Win 10, CC Cleaner is no longer required.
Hold on, apple still updates itunes not microsoft lol
Good advice, but unfortunately LibreOffice requires Java to operate correctly.
It depends on what you're doing with it. It works just fine for those of us just using the basic tools.
You say to remove Java due to EoL, yet the latest update for the Java JRE is dated May 2022?
I have JAVAFx on my PC and it says it is from Oracle. Is this the same one you are talking about?
