    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 10 лет назад +41

      Thor Odinson yeap, Bungie is very different now than what it used to be....and I think Destiny, how it was build and how Bungie has "updated" it since its launch are all the proof you need....and like said Marty got fired, Joseph Staten is gone, Im not even sure how many of these people you used to see constanstly during Halo 2, Halo 3,ODST and Reach "behind the scenes" videos work there anymore...all those faces who became familiar over the years and gave some kind of "face" and "soul" to the company....its a sad thing to see how that has fallen apart. But nothing lasts forever I quess....it was fun while it lasted, Bungie was one of my favorite studios between 2002 (when I first started to follow them) and 2010.

    I remember this release date well. Got locked out of my apartment. It’s 4am and I’ve just arrived home from my night shift with game in hand after picking it up on my lunch break at midnight. After giving my bro my key so he could make a copy he has forgotten to leave it hidden that night. It’s crazy this aligned with such a night because I always have my key. Not a normal thing at all! Ended up driving over to my brother’s girlfriend’s apartment to wake them up and tell him to give me my damn key, but I needed to get through security gate first! Waiting 15 damn minutes for someone to randomly come open gate so I could piggy-back, which never happened!!! Finally it dawned on me that bro often likes to open his bedroom window a lot during the day so MAYYYBE he leaves it unlocked out of laziness. Drive back and sho nuff! Window is unlocked!!! Crawl in that shit and FINALLY!!! HALO 2!!!

    I love how the E3 demo was indeed essentially "smoke and mirrors bullshit" lol. It certainly wasn't as manufactured as a lot of "gameplay" footage modern companies show off, but they did make that particular vertical slice just to show off the idea they were going for. Not a critique, just ironic, I'd never taken notice of the smoke and mirrors line from Johnson.

    Just imagine what could have been, if these companies had no due dates or weren't limited with money - i understand the pressure helps the process and limited resourced yield more creativity but - seeing how so much was cut from the game, i just wonder "what if".

      Well thats how it usually goes with games and movies, but with games especially...
      Sadly there isnt limitless time to make these games....Halo 2 was originally (from what Ive heard) supposed to be released in 2003 already, but since Bungie still had the game completely in design board at that time, Microsoft gave them until end of 2004 to finish up the game, and from marketing perspective I understand that perfeclty.....
      2004 was HUGE year in gaming (imho its still the biggest and best year of ALL TIME in gaming) and Microsoft simply couldnt afford to have their flagship title delayed any further....from marketing perspective, I can completely understand that. Unfortunately for Bungie it only left them 1,5 years to finish up the game from E3 2003 to the launch in November 2004....VERY short time to get game like that put together, considering where they were at the time with this game according to this documentary.
      But for sure had Bungie had more time or had they nailed much of the design phase (good designing and planing is job half done is so true) from the very beginning, for sure the game would have been much more polished....
      At very least Halo 2 would not have had the cliffhanger ending that it had, so it would have had atleast 1 more level at the end, perhaps more.
      But thats part of this business.....and all that being said, I still love Halo 2 way more than i did Halo 3, despite the latter being much more polished in its release than Halo 2 was. And I think its exactly because Bungie aimed so high and big with Halo 2 and despite its flaws, it clearly shows.....where Halo 3 imho was much more of "safe play" in many ways. Its still good game, but it just lack that "wow" factor that was there with first two games.
