  • Here is the video of Paro approach flown by Bhutan’s first female pilot/Captain from Drukair, Royal Bhutan Airlines. The video takes you over head Paro airport before making U-Turn for runway 15 landing.
The crew encounters rain on arrival which makes it even more challenging for the crew to land.
Beautiful landing executed by the Captain at the end.
    About Paro airport:
Paro airport is considered as one of the most challenging airport in the world for the commercial jetliners to land.
The airport is located at an altitude of 7364 feet above mean sea level with runway elevation of 7362 feet and 7310 feet respectively for runway 15 and runway 33.
The runway length is 7431 feet ( 2265 meters) and width is about 30 meters which just covers the minimum runway width required by ICAO. ( one factor why Paro is considered one of the most challenging runway to land for the pilots)
Note: All Airbus aircraft are developed based on 45 m wide runways because it reflects the most frequently used runways by Airbus aircraft.
All flight and simulator certification tests linked to directional control on ground are performed on 45 m wide runways.

    • @LunnarisLP
      @LunnarisLP Месяц назад

actually this kinda weather is probably preferable. visbility was still okay and when its colder the air is a bit thicker, allowing for slightly slower approach and landing speed. Paro is an insane airport either way, if you cant land blind here in simulator you better of not attempting the real thing.

@highcountry That may be true in Amurrica, but (this may come as a shock) the rest of the world is not always like the good ole U S of A. Landing at this airport is different. Only a handful of pilots are qualified to land a passenger jet there. Sure, computers play a large part in operating the systems of any modern passenger jet, but landing here requires exceptional flying skills. However, I do understand why pilots don''t like the degree to which computers have taken over.... especially if they are flying Boeing 737s, although with them the problems seem to be mainly just after take-off.... if you see what I mean... y'all. You got something against female pilots by any chance?

Bravo, truly exceptional flying. At 300 ft. her right wing was much lower to the mountain rising on her right, which is why she had to make that slight left deflection. Nice.

Any pilot can do that, the displays in the cockpit help with navigation so she will know where the runway is.
If she really can’t see, if it’s possible, she can fly an ils approach.

As a gulfstream pilot, the advice I would like to give to aspiring student pilots or those who want to become pilot is:
    - stay humble
    - keep your mind open to suggestions
    - always willing to learn
    - never get complacent

The capt is like demonstrating a textbook flight in a sim lmao, she even has time to explain some readings of the PFD to her junior pilot (first time seeing 1 strip pilot sitting at the right-hand seat in an approach loll, let alone it is not a normal airport to land on)

Wow amazing!! As a flightsim enthusiast I have flown this approach to Paro a gazillion times (on a side note, the flightsim scenery seems to be very consistent with what is seen here). But not even once have I had the courage to try without selecting perfectly clear visibility settings, it is almost 100% hand flying. In this video though you can barely see the surroundings during the super tight U turn between two mountains, followed by negotiating that obstructing cliff seconds before touchdown. I was under the impression that the ATC wouldn't even allow to descent into the valley if the visibility was subpar. I guess the local pilots have perfect situational awareness wired into their heads no matter whether they can see or not🙏
