Hi Bill. This Chagual Aerodrome is used every week to transport personnel of a gold minning in the north part of the Andes High Mountains in Perú. ATSA Airlines is the airline that used to go to this aerodrome due a contract with that minning company named "La Poderosa" (The Powerful in english). ATSA means in spanish Aero Transporte S.A. (Aero Transport Anonymous Society). I flew with my Father 3 years in ATSA, from 2007 (when I left the Peruvian Navy) to 2010 when I decide to go to fly for Star Perú Airlines. Since january 1st., 2020 I am flying for ATSA again. The last 6 years I was flying as a E190 Captain for Copa Airlines and living in Panama City with my family. But due to the pandemic we decide to the retired and continue working in my small bussiness in Panama but in the next months I received a call from a ATSA Manager from Perú and I accept the ATSA proposal to start flying with them again. Normally we used to fly to Chagual the Piper Cheyenne III, but now a days ATSA flies the B200 for that purpose.

Well, maybe. In about '03 I met a chap called Mike. I was a taxi driver and flying enthusiast. He was a pilot and new arrival in Australia. We ended up day / night driver on the same car, so I chatted with Mike. Mike told me he'd come from Afghanistan, and had been the personal pilot of El Presidente - before the Russians arrived. He was a qualified 747 captain, and had flown into & out of Kabul with the boss aboard, often. I mentioned in conversation that the RAAF sends pilots to PNG for experience, because "It's the most hostile flying environment in the world."
    "Really?" he said, "Why's that?"
I listed geography and landscape, weather & climate, lack of modern equipment and facilities, and many local people who might not be hunter-gatherers themselves, but were two generations removed at best. He answered me by pointing out that local tribal people in PNG don't have Stinger missiles and a strong desire to use them. Then he described the geography around Kabul, and what an approach or departure involves in a 747, including the bit where the pilot & all other crew watch for smoke trails or other signs of SAM launch, while the pilot flys HOTAS, ready to chop to flight idle on 1 sec warning, and then deal with whatever that does to flighspeed and terrain and such.
"Did you ever have to do that? Chop power and avoid a SAM?"
    "Yes. Several times."
"So, is that the toughest place you've ever had to go?"
"One of them. But I don't think it's quite as bad as Aspen."
"Aspen!? Like, Colorado? In the US?"
"Yeah. That's my least favourite airport in the world."
I'll cut this short and go to a bullet list.
    Altitude.
Weather conditions, including low visibility and icing.
    Terrain.
Traffic - lots of it, and some of that is professional regular service airlines, some is professional charter pilots and such, and some is private pilots in their own aircraft. Nowhere in the world are you more likely to meet the doctor about to die in his V-tail doctor killer, than Aspen. They take advice / instructions from ATC the way they take alternative medical advice. Obedience is not their first instinct.
So, that's it in a nutshell. I have it from the ex personal pilot of the Afghan president, that getting a 747 into Kabul is second on the frightening list, to flying charter Learjets and KingAirs and such into and from Aspen. Make of that what you wish, but I think it was funny.

Displaced Threshold. A displaced threshold is a threshold located at a point on the runway other than the designated beginning of the runway. Displacement of a threshold reduces the length of runway available for landings. The portion of runway behind a displaced threshold is available for takeoffs in either direction and landings from the opposite direction. A ten feet wide white threshold bar is located across the width of the runway at the displaced threshold. White arrows are located along the centerline in the area between the beginning of the runway and displaced threshold. White arrow heads are located across the width of the runway just prior to the threshold bar.
