A few years ago me and my mate (we were both nearly 60 were taking a break on a ridge overlooking a Welsh valley on a long motorbike trail ride. We were eating our sandwiches when we saw a couple of fighter jets coming along the valley towards us. That were level with us and about 50 metres away, the lead pilot saw us and gave us a friendly wave. They were so close, not going that fast really. So there was me and my mate enjoying a cross country trail ride and here was a young man in his fighter jet, all of us enjoying ourselves, sharing this planet. How cool was that?

I remember working on a house in Suffolk and a Apache helicopter was coming towards me and my mate when we were working on a roof.My mate said do you think he can see us,i said lets find out,so i stood up and waved my arms in the air and the helicopter pilot gave us a double sideways wiggle :)
I'm an American Private Pilot with 37 years experience in aviation. I enjoyed this video immensely. Pilot was extremely precise in comms and control inputs...just what I would expect from the RAF.
+Dagger1955 I was rock climbing once on one side of a road cutting through a Scottish hill. The cutting would have been about 100 metres across. I nearly fell off when an RAF Buccaneer flew through behind/below me. I turned my head to look, just in time to see his wingman fly through the cutting, on his side, on the turn, about 20 feet below me and about 40 feet off the road surface. I looked down into his cockpit. I could see the water vapour whizzing round in his wing-tip votices, and hear the whhh-whhh-whhh sound they made. A wonderful and unforgettable experience! (Apart from having to do the washing, later on)!! :-)
I spent 2 weeks mountaineering around Snowdonia (Wales). When your climbing 2 -3 thousand feet you start to the think you're in a world of your own up in the clouds, then all of a sudden the RAF come roaring past you out of nowhere. Amazing experience to see these guys training and how cool the pilots remain as they weave though the mountains and valleys of North Wales.
And when you're not in the clouds, those of us who fly engineless aircraft up there do try our best not to scare you witless by creeping up on you as you make a difficult move, honest :)
I had a similar experience in 1976, when I was doing some mapping work for the Geological Survey in the Scottish Highlands, I was 1,000 feet above Loch Rannoch when a Harrier came roaring past doing his 250 ft run over the lake. So strange to be looking down on a fast flying fighter jet

I thought I had been in an accident when one of these beautiful birds buzzed a village I was driving through. The sudden noise/roar from the engine was out of this world. I then had the pleasure of parking up on a hill and watching the rest of the display at the airshow.😊
Yep. They seem to be even lower in Wales sometimes too, barely skim the top. Absolutely superb. But I couldn't help thinking as he hurtled up the Shap (M6) Pass ..... You do know folk jump off the fells on the east side with hang gliders & parachutes. Plus the occasional ridge soaring Gliders.
We live at the end of the valley when they top out in the North Lakes, they looked like they will actually fly into our house when they approach! Amazing!
I was just recently in Buttermere hiking, and then out of nowhere two jets scream by maybe only 400-500 meters from me, a lot of people near the lake didn’t seem happy but I thought it was cool

But its hardly easier to see a glider or a microlight nose on than it istoo see two folk stood side by side - the profile is tiny and very few have skwawk - Tho its increasing with the hang gliders & microlights the cliff jumping lot don't.
They have to give a running commentary to themselves to be able to do this stuff. Constantly checking and confirming everything is nominal is part of the procedure.

@@SHR2002 That is one part of it, yes! But mostly it's the fact that in such a fast machine they may only have 1 or 2 seconds to react to a problem before something bad happens. Since they have to carefully balance speed, power, bank angle, angle of attack (nose up and down) on all their instruments they have to constantly check all of these. A lot of accidents happen when the pilot stops actively checking all their instruments and by the time they realise something is wrong it's too late. Vocalising it all helps maintain discipline.
@@ww3662 I know that they have special suits and that there's a breathing technique. I would probably puke and pass out (not necessarily in that order) shortly after leaving the ground! Deep respect for these fliers. Flying Cessnas when I was a teen doesn't quite cut it.

The calmness and matter-of-factness of his commentary in such an adrenaline rich environment is amazing. Years ago, I worked at an FBO that had a contract to fly over a series of LNG pipelines in the region. I would fly right seat with a former USN Hornet driver in a C182T and let me tell you, we would get WAY down in the dirt to see any potential issues. When we did, it was my job to hang out the door and photograph questionable sections. Since Jerry was kind enough to bank over at about 40 degrees (at a couple hundred feet AGL) so I could get good, clear shots, my adrenaline level wouldn't permit me to speak quite as calmly as this pilot.
0:32 doing an 8G overbank at 40,000 ft would make most people projectile vomit a lung, but this cool bastard only sounds like he is lifting a moderately heavy box off the floor.
Too right. I have been wild camping exactly where these jets fly over and they absolutely scare the shit out of you. They are SO incredibly loud and come out of nowhere.
I was up in Snowdonia camping, and the jets made a pretty cool sight when you're high on the valley wall eating your lunch. They were actually flying lower than us. That is, until a news helicopter floated into the valley around the corner. A Hawk trainer came round the mountain, saw the helicopter and went full vertical to avoid it. Kind of exciting from where we were sitting, but probably more exciting for the pilots. Much underwear was changed that afternoon I expect.
Well someone fucked up there big time. You can't just fly willy nilly anywhere you like for that exact reason. Id imagine the military had that air what the hell was the helicopter doing there? I suspect someone got a hefty fine there and may have even lost his licence. That's a serious misconduct for obvious reasons.
adznz11 What he was doing ther was getting in the bloody way. And probably taking pictures of the valley for a TV programme ro the news or something. Honestly they didn't come THAT close to hitting, but within about 500m, which is way too close as the speeds they were going. And yes, I'm pretty sure they didn't get any authorisation to fly there, as it's a well-known spot for low flying jets.
***** Aviation law. Its a very serious set of rules and protocol that exists entirely so shit like this does not happen. Whether its well known or not is irrelevant you don't fly in airspace that you don't know about period. It certainly wouldn't be for the news or any commercial venture because they would be using commercial pilots. Even private licence the first quarter and probably most important part of the program is aviation law. Its very hard to conceive anyone could do this especially in military fly zones that ignore all altitude separations. Whoever that special unit was will never fly again i can tell you that much.
Interestingly enough, many Finnish Air Force pilots have backgrounds in Rally. Dont remember where but i remember an account by a British pilot saying that the Finnish used to take even the British Jaguars just metres of the ground because they were just so unbelievably good and had balls the size of atlas stones

My dad was in ATC when someone lost both wings and ejected. This happened to a Gloster Javelin while on a live firing exercise in the Netherlands. The Javelin had 4 x 30mm cannon in the wing roots, and somebody had forgotten to remove the metal alignment rods from the barrels... Conversation was brief "Lined up for live fire" "Firing" *Loud bang* "Wings gone" "Ejecting" Pretty much confirmed that a bunch of high explosive shells fired and trapped in your wings chop them off pretty damn sharply.
Most modern aircraft will not allow anything but guns when they are too close to the ground or in an approach to the target that is inescapable since the Korean war. Mute point
Flew F111’s in 1980’s in England, so this was all very familiar. From Midlands typical sortie was North past Isle of Man, let down low level & up one of the Locks, thru the Highlands heading to a range for some fixed target practice. Our practice low levels were done at 480 kts - 200’ agl hand flown with 500’ considered too high. While fun & good for the video, “over-banking” was to be avoided if possible due to wing flash & the danger of being spotted from above. Instead we practiced ridge crossings using negative G’s applied well BEFORE the crest. Lastly, all that added background “jet noise” is not what one would hear in any cockpit, so rather annoying to someone who’s actually been there.
Great team work, making it look like a walk through to park. The untold hours of discipline that's needed just to attempt that flight is unreal, yet smooth and controlled. Five Stars gentlemen! Thanks for the ride along.
I flew backseat in a Jaguar doing a similar sortie through the Scottish mountains. Scary AF! We actually lost an American pilot, Capt. Buteau, when his Jag did an uncommanded roll in one of the valleys I flew down. He ejected correctly upwards, but his trajectory was interrupted by a huge rocky outcrop before he left the seat! Very sad day because it was our first Jag pilot loss and I was part of the Guard of Honour at his funeral.
I was rowing across Loch Lochy back in 1986 and a Tornado flew over me about 200ft. I swear I saw the wings waggle after the pass. Magical and the noise!!!! You don't hear them coming, but feck so loud passing lol
Excellent!!! Cant say anything more than just Awesome. I could watch this type of action all day. I spent 8 years, 11 months and 14 days in the USAF. Worked around all types of aircraft, but my favorite remains the F-4E. That was/is one of the best "flying by the seat of your pants" aircraft ever. Unfortunately, I have ridden helicopters out in the jungle to retrieve electronics/ect. several times in my tour in Southeast Asia (1969-1970). Keep showing me this good stuff. It makes me proud to have been a part of the tradition.

I've pulled 4.5G looping the fabled Cessna 152 aerobat, but pulling 5 G @ 250 ft @ 450knts in a valley in that aircraft is in another world to a roller coaster rider requiring a skill set you don't understand Anthony.
its cool to see them flying by when your out walking in the lake district. you can hear the rumbles and echos off the valley walls, sounds like thunder.
I used to see them doing these practise runs every summer on holiday in the lake district as a kid in the 80s and 90s. It never got old, was always stunning seeing them blast through the valleys. I loved how the sound is always slightly behind them, occasionally you would spot them coming in the distance, totally silent. But usually you only really hear them once they've gone past you, if you look to where the sound is they're already gone, you have to look ahead to spot the plane. Pretty cool to find out how fast they actually go, around 500mph, AWESOME! Probably the best job on earth.
Chuck D Im currently flying BAE hawks in the RAAF as part of my training for the F/A18E. We pull pretty much the same G's as the pilot in the Typhoon here (From -4 to +6/7) It is quite a feeling but it gets pretty normal after a while, how ever in a combat situation its a whole nother story :)

My Dad’s worked on these jets for years after coming from Tornado’s and these a a pure work of art, seeing them up close on the ground and actually getting to sit in the cockpit is amazing
500Mph in a £65Million jet flying so low they could mow the grass, and the pilot sounds so calm and reserved you'd think he was talking about a lovely jigsaw he was doing......
4 yrs minimum to qualify as an raf pilot and minimum of 300 hours flying various aircraft then if your good enough and pass all the tests you have a chance at being among the 2% of pilots who get selected to start fighter pilot training which takes another 2 years and another 200 hours minimum and after all that almost half fail.
4 years to qual as a pilot sounds like an issue with the training system, and student throughput. Other countries are able to do it in about 2. Hornet pilots usually take about 5 from start to finish.
Love the overbank across Innominate Tarn and Haystacks (wonder what Wainwright would make of being frightened out of his wits during a peaceful ramble) and down across Buttermere. Amazing to see how fast it all flashes past when you've spent ages walking it.
I used to live a couple of miles from an RAF base when I was a child, I wish I still lived there because I have so much more appreciation for these beautiful aircraft now that I’m an adult.
North Wales to the Lake District just like that and back to Lincolnshire to land wow, it's a pity we can't all travel that fast, great advert for British countryside as well.
Just a series of checks, round and round. Most people would have trouble just keeping the checks going, never mind flying the things. Can you imagine doing that in hostile territory !
I love this film. I grew up in a small village a couple of miles away from one of the powerstations along the river Trent in Nth Notts. Aircraft from countries around the world would fly so low over our houses that one day they shook the old cast iron guttering from the roof of our barn. We would see Tornados of every type from countries around the world, and multitudes of other visiting Airforces aircraft, their pilots easily visible to us as we played in the fields, often waving at us. We were some of the first people in the country to see the A10 flying at 250ft or less. Then I joined the RAF and got up close and personal with some of the aircraft I used to watch as a youngster and fly on a couple of types of troop transport fixed wing. The best out of the lot though was flying on most of the rotary wing aircraft in service with the Navy, Army and the RAF at nape of the earth in Northern Ireland, the feeling of hooning around hillsides and cresting over fast approaching crests is something else in a rotary wing but in one of these puppies it must be ball clenchingly epic. And now I live in Cardigan bay and use the Mach run road often, the road that is running to the left on the run into the valley. Awesome sights of these beasts flying along side you, the kids love it. Watching the film I can smell the cockpit, that mix of hot electrical equipment, avtur and human being. It's a smell most military vehicles and hardware has and im sure other veterans know what I am talking about. Always come back to this one when im feeling abit glum!
These guys are machines. Not only do they have to be super educated, they gotta have perfect vision, pass all them gforce tests, endurance, concentration to the extreme and be ready for war. If you are lucky to make it then it must be a wonderful job

I would follow in the footsteps of my grandfather and be an marine AF pilot. goosebumps every time I watch these kinds of videos, and a unmistakable feeling of emptiness in my life. Hi! I'm from Leeds, but it's very rare that a fighter passes overhead. Where is the BEST place in the Lake District to view them? Also, can I be guaranteed that I'd ever see them if I drove up?
@@stevengrewal9656 one flight path is up Windermere. A popular spot to view them is Todd Crag, a short walk and easy climb from Ambleside. They then fly over Grasmere. They are the nearest places to you, to see them at low level. Some days not a plane in sight. Other days there are lots.

I was in my kitchen at home in the lake district when one of these came overhead at low altitude and it was so loud that I instinctively ducked and almost scurried under the table. Amazing pilots who can fly so low and remain as cool as a cucumber.
Just came across this video, I have to say, this is the BEST first person perspective of the mach loop, it's INCREDIBLE! From taking off, flying through mach loop with no music and cuts, really gives you a more thrilling perspective than waiting on the side of the mountain for a fighter jet to pass by within view for around 5 seconds. The icing on the cake was the fact you had another fellow eurofighter flying in formation with you. Thanks for your service @AntonyLoveless!
Some guy in wales got pissed off with all the noise and wrote "piss off biggles" on his barn. Once the raf guys saw it they all started flying over it to get pictures. Then all the other nato crews started doing the same! He eventually painted over it.
Haha one of my parents friends actually knew this guy! The pilots ended up using it as a reference point when flying through the valleys and deliberately made low passes at it! Rumour has it its featured in the RAF's simulators now so they can use it as a reference point for mach loop training.
Was on a Windermere cruiser when one of these guys came roaring in at very low level. Seemed like I could touch the undercarriage. Absolutely exhilarating experience. Saw one at Blackpool Airshow yesterday. What a BEAST!! Kids being lead away in tears because of the immense noise. Absolutely fantastic!!!

That isn't true lol. I've watched Go Pro's of Canadian and American fighter pilots. They are professional. Maybe if they are in a combat arena and they are dropping bombs on Donkey huts - I can see some salty talk coming from that.
I was stationed In England with the USAF and met RAF people in England and Sardinia Professionals.....who knew how to have a good time and were nice people In Sardinia, the RAF, Luftwaffe, Italian AF and the USAF all operated together using the gunnery range
It's so refreshing to see some sensible adult comments on RUclips. We all know that US, UK and all western airforces (and indeed most airforces of the world) are manned by professionals who excel in what they do. The "we're better than you are" crap that many posters come out with is embarrassing and depressing.
I love the shadow of this plane down there traveling at an incredible speed, and the plane from the cockpit point of view looks like it's not moving at all.
I live near Airbase Volkel, the Dutch Air Force is mainly stationed there. I see F16's fly over every day. Some really low, some in formations. The churchtower of my town is actually one of the guidance points for the pilots, to direct to the landing strip. I also often see choppers, or huge radar planes, big as passenger planes
Yep 6G's I think it was to shed around 9,000 ft in a few seconds then straight on the glide-path to a totally smooth landing! I haven't flown better even in my wildest dreams!
Wonderful! I’m so glad I live in the age of powered flight. To see these magnificent machines leap effortlessly into the air is truly a privilege. I feel we sometimes that flight for granted. When I go on a plane I see people reading books and iPads, watching movies. Whereas I look out of the window. Humans don’t belong in the air, but we’re there anyway. And that’s a marvel.
The skill level and cool head of RAF pilots is just amazing. I once listened to, cannot find it any longer, voice recording of pilot and back seat (navigator / weapons guy) on a bomb run. There was thick AAA bursting all around them and it was like they were on a training run. Calm as you like, unbelievable.
Up tiddly up! Down tiddly down! Whoops poop twiddlydee. Decent scrap with the fiendish red baron, jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines. Capture, torture, escape and back home in time for tea and medals!
I have watched many of these types of flying videos, and I must say that the pilot's calm, (seemingly) effortless narration made this one infinitely more enjoyable than the others. Extremely well done.

I thought I had been in an accident when one of these beautiful birds buzzed a village I was driving through. The sudden noise/roar from the engine was out of this world.
I then had the pleasure of parking up on a hill and watching the rest of the display at the airshow.😊

We live at the end of the valley when they top out in the North Lakes, they looked like they will actually fly into our house when they approach! Amazing!
I was just recently in Buttermere hiking, and then out of nowhere two jets scream by maybe only 400-500 meters from me, a lot of people near the lake didn’t seem happy but I thought it was cool

Both the Tornado and Eurofighter are European projects. The Brits call their Eurofighters "Typhoons".

To be able to fly low and give a running commentary on everything you do as it happens shows why we have top pilots in the RAF.
They have to give a running commentary to themselves to be able to do this stuff. Constantly checking and confirming everything is nominal is part of the procedure.

@@SHR2002 That is one part of it, yes! But mostly it's the fact that in such a fast machine they may only have 1 or 2 seconds to react to a problem before something bad happens. Since they have to carefully balance speed, power, bank angle, angle of attack (nose up and down) on all their instruments they have to constantly check all of these.
A lot of accidents happen when the pilot stops actively checking all their instruments and by the time they realise something is wrong it's too late. Vocalising it all helps maintain discipline.

The calmness and matter-of-factness of his commentary in such an adrenaline rich environment is amazing. Years ago, I worked at an FBO that had a contract to fly over a series of LNG pipelines in the region. I would fly right seat with a former USN Hornet driver in a C182T and let me tell you, we would get WAY down in the dirt to see any potential issues. When we did, it was my job to hang out the door and photograph questionable sections. Since Jerry was kind enough to bank over at about 40 degrees (at a couple hundred feet AGL) so I could get good, clear shots, my adrenaline level wouldn't permit me to speak quite as calmly as this pilot.
He is not just flying a badass jet aircraft, he is doing it with style. You Brits are awesome.

Too right. I have been wild camping exactly where these jets fly over and they absolutely scare the shit out of you. They are SO incredibly loud and come out of nowhere.
I was up in Snowdonia camping, and the jets made a pretty cool sight when you're high on the valley wall eating your lunch. They were actually flying lower than us.
That is, until a news helicopter floated into the valley around the corner. A Hawk trainer came round the mountain, saw the helicopter and went full vertical to avoid it. Kind of exciting from where we were sitting, but probably more exciting for the pilots. Much underwear was changed that afternoon I expect.
Well someone fucked up there big time. You can't just fly willy nilly anywhere you like for that exact reason. Id imagine the military had that air what the hell was the helicopter doing there? I suspect someone got a hefty fine there and may have even lost his licence. That's a serious misconduct for obvious reasons.
adznz11 What he was doing ther was getting in the bloody way. And probably taking pictures of the valley for a TV programme ro the news or something. Honestly they didn't come THAT close to hitting, but within about 500m, which is way too close as the speeds they were going. And yes, I'm pretty sure they didn't get any authorisation to fly there, as it's a well-known spot for low flying jets.
***** Aviation law. Its a very serious set of rules and protocol that exists entirely so shit like this does not happen. Whether its well known or not is irrelevant you don't fly in airspace that you don't know about period. It certainly wouldn't be for the news or any commercial venture because they would be using commercial pilots. Even private licence the first quarter and probably most important part of the program is aviation law. Its very hard to conceive anyone could do this especially in military fly zones that ignore all altitude separations. Whoever that special unit was will never fly again i can tell you that much.

Interestingly enough, many Finnish Air Force pilots have backgrounds in Rally. Dont remember where but i remember an account by a British pilot saying that the Finnish used to take even the British Jaguars just metres of the ground because they were just so unbelievably good and had balls the size of atlas stones

This happened to a Gloster Javelin while on a live firing exercise in the Netherlands. The Javelin had 4 x 30mm cannon in the wing roots, and somebody had forgotten to remove the metal alignment rods from the barrels...
Conversation was brief "Lined up for live fire" "Firing" *Loud bang* "Wings gone" "Ejecting"

Flew F111’s in 1980’s in England, so this was all very familiar. From Midlands typical sortie was North past Isle of Man, let down low level & up one of the Locks, thru the Highlands heading to a range for some fixed target practice. Our practice low levels were done at 480 kts - 200’ agl hand flown with 500’ considered too high. While fun & good for the video, “over-banking” was to be avoided if possible due to wing flash & the danger of being spotted from above. Instead we practiced ridge crossings using negative G’s applied well BEFORE the crest. Lastly, all that added background “jet noise” is not what one would hear in any cockpit, so rather annoying to someone who’s actually been there.
To be able to sit along with something like this is my biggest dream ever. These men who fly these wonderful planes are legends. Keep safe lads. 👍

I flew backseat in a Jaguar doing a similar sortie through the Scottish mountains. Scary AF! We actually lost an American pilot, Capt. Buteau, when his Jag did an uncommanded roll in one of the valleys I flew down. He ejected correctly upwards, but his trajectory was interrupted by a huge rocky outcrop before he left the seat! Very sad day because it was our first Jag pilot loss and I was part of the Guard of Honour at his funeral.

Excellent!!! Cant say anything more than just Awesome. I could watch this type of action all day. I spent 8 years, 11 months and 14 days in the USAF. Worked around all types of aircraft, but my favorite remains the F-4E. That was/is one of the best "flying by the seat of your pants" aircraft ever. Unfortunately, I have ridden helicopters out in the jungle to retrieve electronics/ect. several times in my tour in Southeast Asia (1969-1970). Keep showing me this good stuff. It makes me proud to have been a part of the tradition.

I've pulled 4.5G looping the fabled Cessna 152 aerobat, but pulling 5 G @ 250 ft @ 450knts in a valley in that aircraft is in another world to a roller coaster rider requiring a skill set you don't understand Anthony.
its cool to see them flying by when your out walking in the lake district. you can hear the rumbles and echos off the valley walls, sounds like thunder.
I used to see them doing these practise runs every summer on holiday in the lake district as a kid in the 80s and 90s. It never got old, was always stunning seeing them blast through the valleys. I loved how the sound is always slightly behind them, occasionally you would spot them coming in the distance, totally silent. But usually you only really hear them once they've gone past you, if you look to where the sound is they're already gone, you have to look ahead to spot the plane. Pretty cool to find out how fast they actually go, around 500mph, AWESOME! Probably the best job on earth.

Chuck D Im currently flying BAE hawks in the RAAF as part of my training for the F/A18E. We pull pretty much the same G's as the pilot in the Typhoon here (From -4 to +6/7) It is quite a feeling but it gets pretty normal after a while, how ever in a combat situation its a whole nother story :)

My Dad’s worked on these jets for years after coming from Tornado’s and these a a pure work of art, seeing them up close on the ground and actually getting to sit in the cockpit is amazing

They're trained extremely well. They haven't got much to worry about. And if something does go wrong they are trained to handle the situation

4 yrs minimum to qualify as an raf pilot and minimum of 300 hours flying various aircraft then if your good enough and pass all the tests you have a chance at being among the 2% of pilots who get selected to start fighter pilot training which takes another 2 years and another 200 hours minimum and after all that almost half fail.
4 years to qual as a pilot sounds like an issue with the training system, and student throughput. Other countries are able to do it in about 2. Hornet pilots usually take about 5 from start to finish.

Just a series of checks, round and round. Most people would have trouble just keeping the checks going, never mind flying the things. Can you imagine doing that in hostile territory !
I love this film. I grew up in a small village a couple of miles away from one of the powerstations along the river Trent in Nth Notts. Aircraft from countries around the world would fly so low over our houses that one day they shook the old cast iron guttering from the roof of our barn. We would see Tornados of every type from countries around the world, and multitudes of other visiting Airforces aircraft, their pilots easily visible to us as we played in the fields, often waving at us. We were some of the first people in the country to see the A10 flying at 250ft or less. Then I joined the RAF and got up close and personal with some of the aircraft I used to watch as a youngster and fly on a couple of types of troop transport fixed wing. The best out of the lot though was flying on most of the rotary wing aircraft in service with the Navy, Army and the RAF at nape of the earth in Northern Ireland, the feeling of hooning around hillsides and cresting over fast approaching crests is something else in a rotary wing but in one of these puppies it must be ball clenchingly epic. And now I live in Cardigan bay and use the Mach run road often, the road that is running to the left on the run into the valley. Awesome sights of these beasts flying along side you, the kids love it. Watching the film I can smell the cockpit, that mix of hot electrical equipment, avtur and human being. It's a smell most military vehicles and hardware has and im sure other veterans know what I am talking about. Always come back to this one when im feeling abit glum!
These guys are machines. Not only do they have to be super educated, they gotta have perfect vision, pass all them gforce tests, endurance, concentration to the extreme and be ready for war. If you are lucky to make it then it must be a wonderful job

+Chris H i feel u. was set on Air Force fighter pilot plan up til i joined ROTC in college and it reminded me too much of my perfectionist psychopath Army pilot father and realized i loved flying but hated being in the military. sometimes wish i had joined for the minimum commitment though. anyway...like u said we can get our private pilot license and buy a home build mini jet right?!!! for now rollercoasters n skydiving to suffice? i've experienced high Gs in a sailplane (glyder) though where your vision shrinks but i'm sure that mach 2 mach 3 feeling and zipping past objects is way more exciting.

Hi! I'm from Leeds, but it's very rare that a fighter passes overhead. Where is the BEST place in the Lake District to view them? Also, can I be guaranteed that I'd ever see them if I drove up?
@@stevengrewal9656 one flight path is up Windermere. A popular spot to view them is Todd Crag, a short walk and easy climb from Ambleside. They then fly over Grasmere. They are the nearest places to you, to see them at low level. Some days not a plane in sight. Other days there are lots.

I was in my kitchen at home in the lake district when one of these came overhead at low altitude and it was so loud that I instinctively ducked and almost scurried under the table. Amazing pilots who can fly so low and remain as cool as a cucumber.
Just came across this video, I have to say, this is the BEST first person perspective of the mach loop, it's INCREDIBLE! From taking off, flying through mach loop with no music and cuts, really gives you a more thrilling perspective than waiting on the side of the mountain for a fighter jet to pass by within view for around 5 seconds. The icing on the cake was the fact you had another fellow eurofighter flying in formation with you. Thanks for your service @AntonyLoveless!

Some guy in wales got pissed off with all the noise and wrote "piss off biggles" on his barn. Once the raf guys saw it they all started flying over it to get pictures. Then all the other nato crews started doing the same! He eventually painted over it.
Haha one of my parents friends actually knew this guy! The pilots ended up using it as a reference point when flying through the valleys and deliberately made low passes at it! Rumour has it its featured in the RAF's simulators now so they can use it as a reference point for mach loop training.

That isn't true lol. I've watched Go Pro's of Canadian and American fighter pilots. They are professional. Maybe if they are in a combat arena and they are dropping bombs on Donkey huts - I can see some salty talk coming from that.

I was stationed In England with the USAF and met RAF people in England and Sardinia
Professionals.....who knew how to have a good time and were nice people
In Sardinia, the RAF, Luftwaffe, Italian AF and the USAF all operated together using the gunnery range
It's so refreshing to see some sensible adult comments on RUclips. We all know that US, UK and all western airforces (and indeed most airforces of the world) are manned by professionals who excel in what they do. The "we're better than you are" crap that many posters come out with is embarrassing and depressing.

I love the shadow of this plane down there traveling at an incredible speed, and the plane from the cockpit point of view looks like it's not moving at all.

I live near Airbase Volkel, the Dutch Air Force is mainly stationed there. I see F16's fly over every day. Some really low, some in formations. The churchtower of my town is actually one of the guidance points for the pilots, to direct to the landing strip. I also often see choppers, or huge radar planes, big as passenger planes

Yep 6G's I think it was to shed around 9,000 ft in a few seconds then straight on the glide-path to a totally smooth landing! I haven't flown better even in my wildest dreams!
Wonderful! I’m so glad I live in the age of powered flight. To see these magnificent machines leap effortlessly into the air is truly a privilege.
I feel we sometimes that flight for granted. When I go on a plane I see people reading books and iPads, watching movies. Whereas I look out of the window. Humans don’t belong in the air, but we’re there anyway. And that’s a marvel.
I love how he just casually pulls 4G’s while talking with such a nonchalant tone - not even a little strain. Lol

The skill level and cool head of RAF pilots is just amazing. I once listened to, cannot find it any longer, voice recording of pilot and back seat (navigator / weapons guy) on a bomb run. There was thick AAA bursting all around them and it was like they were on a training run. Calm as you like, unbelievable.

I have watched many of these types of flying videos, and I must say that the pilot's calm, (seemingly) effortless narration made this one infinitely more enjoyable than the others. Extremely well done.
Beyond the piloting, that commentary was in itself stunning.
