    My brother was an RAF low-level attack instructor, flying in North Wales valleys, ground hugging. I asked him how he could judge the height with the altimeter being useless at low level. He said 'You use the sheep. If you can see their legs, you're OK. If you can see their eyes, you're too low.'

    I spent a couple of months in Britain back in 2012, and one thing I really noticed out in the countryside was just how many fighters there were zipping about. Typhoons, Tornados, Eagles, even a few Spitfires.
    There's a certain dichotomy to be found in wandering around the ruins of an ancient Roman fort, surrounded by sheep while a farmer works his eighty year old tractor, and a pair of some of the world's most modern aircraft roar overhead.

    • @oscoe
      @oscoe 10 месяцев назад +4

      This is correct. The ancient ruins and the old tractors are a front. Behind which 80 per cent of the adult population own and fly current and former fighter aircraft. They are kept underneath virtually every property in the UK. Hence why you saw so many in the air. You missed out on seeing commonplace Hunters, Harriers, Hawks, Hurricanes, Haribos, and Hulahoops. Pop back over and stay again, you can’t miss them.

    I wish I could show this video to the pioneers of flight back in the late 1800s. Just to show them how effortless it is to fly through the sky and manoeuvre. And especially the bit after 11 minutes 30, weather I just cruising at 30 thousand feet absolutely still without a worry in the world at 500 miles per hour.

      I couldn't work out what to body of water from 5:30 - 6:40 was as didn't look like any lake in Wales, then realised it was Windermere. Quite a diversion from the Mach loop.

      @@Gambit771 could be Derwent water, the only man made lake in the lake district. It's quite high up for a lake and I've seen all sorts fly super low over there as a kid. Even the campsite we stayed on once, on a hill, they followed the path of the hill. Immense breakfast sight, jets flying 500ish feet down the hill while I'm eating my egg on toast lol

    This pilot must have balls of brass and intense training to fly this amazing machine in 90 degree+ banked turns so low and so fast.
    FWIW: The landscape of the UK is incredibly beautiful. The closest I've seen in the US is SE Wisconsin, full of rolling hills draped in green and gold.
