- Welcome aboard the cockpit for a stunning landing of this classic jet, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11F operated by Lufthansa Cargo, originating from Nairobi (NBO), Kenya and landing here at Frankfurt (FRA), Germany.
You join us on the flight deck for an amazing, pilots point of view, hand flown landing, with the aircraft fully established on the final approach into Runway 07R Frankfurt International Airport, Germany.
The approach weather into Frankfurt is overcast but with good visibility of the airfield, we get a great view of the south west province of Frankfurt and over fly the Main river, which joins the River Rhine. The MD-11F smoothly descends along the glideslope with the automated GPWS voice callouts announcing each stage of the descent.
The landing gear is extended at around 2000ft above ground level and the Female Pilot masterfully hand flies the MD 11 onto the ground, where the roll out on runway 07R is extremely rough! After a long flight from Nairobi this cargo crew will be thankful of a good rest on the ground after vacating the runway!

We women may have the requisite “skills” and ability but I would not be comfortable with a female pilot knowing how WE only operate at optimum operational , swift comprehensive and reaction etc , levels for roughly only 2 weeks in every month . To deny that is to be absurd . Oh dear , let the flood gates of fury open ! I expect that I’ll have to delete this soon …….I fear that I might be accused of all sorts of things which are not in synch with “trendy” , emancipated , modern thinking but the data is irrefutable . IMO

I have a friend and she is a Captain for United. She was flying 747 to HKG but since they retired the 747 she flys 787s now. She is a great pilot. I remember her starting off flying tours in the Grand Canyon.

Pleasing information.
As a retired pilot with 43 years of experience I can tell you that all of my professional life I flew with female pilots; some were very good while others were lousy, but the same can be said about their male counterparts so no difference there. A flight deck is or should be a professional and disciplined working place in which romance or innuendos are not contemplated. I feel embarrassed at some of the very stupid and irrelevant comments like the one about the guy with six wives but what can we do. People like that you find all over the place.
To reach the left seat is a hard and long road that during which you have to prove your knowledge, command abilities, maturity, discipline and many other qualities. Some cannot achieve this goal and either remain on the right seat forever or are flushed out of the system so you can be sure that when someone carries four stripes on her/his jacket you can put your life in their hands, regardless of sex. A pilot is a pilot is a pilot and I am proud about being one of them.

It's so good to see a pilot using their skills instead of the ILS.
I just didn't understand why the AP (Auto Pilot) was turned off so far from the track. According to what was described in the preamble of the post, the landing was on the runway 07R of Frankfurt, a runway that has the Automatic Landing System (ILS) of CATEGORY II and, according to the rules of EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) on runways with this system the AUTOMATIC PILOT COUPLING must be maintained up to 200 feet from the ground.
The AP is only used if the landing is done by ILS, this landing was performed by the pilot and is something they have to do every so often to maintain their ticket (incase the ILS is not working).

@@pauljb6207 ... Yes, that she landed "IN HAND" this is clear and notorious. But the fact is that, WHEN THE TRACK HAS THE ILS, EASA's recommendation is TO USE THE SYSTEM and I doubt that in Frankfurt I could have any ILS disabled !!

Probably the centreline marks which are usually hot concrete type paint and raised very slightly...nosewheel rides it down the c/line.

Awesome landing, she makes it look so effortless. Runway 07R needs to be resurfaced, it is past due. My back began to hurt just watching aircraft bounce down runway.
I retired ten years ago and it was like landing on a corrugated tin roof then! It was a real bummer to put the machine on smoothly and then shake the pax to kingdom come. They ought to discount the landing fees…

I had a female first pilot when I flew from Amsterdam to New York with delta. Quite pleasant flight. They can be male, female or something else, an alien. As long as I have comfortable flight.

I flew with Lufthansa twice from Singapore to Germany. It was pilot Stefan. It was in 2001 and 2005.

The most comfortable plane ride I've ever had was flown by a female pilot. Trusted more than a male pilot by me. Love those female pilots.
What difference does it make? How comfortable the flight was had nothing whatsoever to do with gender. It's all about skill and professionalism.

Only when we look at these live videos we get the sense of what it takes to be a pilot. This woman was just too good. But it really did scare me even if it was a perfect landing. I have flown a few times as a passenger but never thought of what was going on in the cockpit. It was always smooth and easy. We need more more female pilots like Claudia here.

I am so proud of these female pilots who have taken charge of that left hand seat so gracefully. As an old aviation employee who spent 35 years within the Flight Operations department starting out as a Flight Dispatcher it was a pleasure when I saw our first female Capt checked out. The irony of this situation was, she tried to start as a Flight Dispatcher but was turned down because she was a woman by the Vice President of Flight Operations. However, that same V P Flt Opns was still there when she got her Wings.
Awesome skills... lifting and landing such a huge monster is not for the faint hearted...

Went to army after air force says I need bachelor degree n 2020 visions . Wanted to go there then airliners. I used to fly MD-80's, now I Captain B-737's, but I'm going to Retire in about a month.
I own my own Citation III & Cessna 172. So, I'll still be flying, but I won't have a Chief Pilot anywhere. LOL

Well I remember many years ago while in the U.S. Marine Corps I flew as a troop in a CH-53 helicopter via "map of the earth" to a training area. Basically followed the contours of the hilly terrain. Later I was told that the pilot was the only female CH-53 pilot in the Marine Corps.
