They are both heros in my book. I cant even imagine losing my leg, yet this young lady has such a positive future outlook. This situation will forever strengthen & bond the relationship her & her brother have.
She seems positive right now because she’s under a lot of medications and such…the real recovery hasn’t even began yet and won’t until she gets back home…that’s when she’ll really have to face the mental aspect and stuff. I hope she heals fast, and keeps her positivity. I couldn’t imagine dealing with that..

Shark attack survivors are some of the chillest people - this girl in particular has a great attitude and obviously wonderful family. Her brother is a hero. Hope she gets a good prosthetic leg and is mobile again soon.

I live in the “Shark Attack Capital of the World” so I stay away from the beach. They say if you go in the water here there is a good chance of a shark being within 10 feet of you so I don’t go near the water. I hope her surgery goes well and can get home soon. She has an amazing attitude as does her brother especially since he got her out of the water. Something tells me she will go back to the beach in no time. Her attitude seems to be “if you fall off of the horse then go back up and try again”

I have been going to the ocean for years,the thought is always with me,"what's in the water with me."
Just remember, everything around you has built in defenses that you don't have. And, anything larger than you likely sees you as a potential source of food or a threat.
At least you have the awareness to the risk. Most of those who have been attacked by a shark have the attitude it could never happen to them. Then when it does they then think it highly unlikely it will happen to them twice so they rush back into the ocean. The only thing good about that is the shark only has one leg filled with blood to chew on.

That’s a classmate of mine. Her mother posted saying she has been trying to stay positive making jokes about beating up sharks. I’m happy that she survived. Her brother is definitely a hero. I was not trying to diss this poor young lady who has a long and difficult path ahead of her both physically and mentally. I'm sure she feels lucky to be alive despite her injuries and is experiencing the euphoria of survival coupled with the effects of strong painkillers. I don't believe that anyone who has fully thought things through would be so upbeat about having an amputation unless it is being done to relieve a longstanding condition or cancer etc. This is a traumatic amputation and she really has no choice in the matter nor has had time to fully process what has happened. I really wish her all the very best.

This time of year big sharks are in Florida this is no surprise anyone swimming in the ocean is in the shark's space.

That's real love, when you put your own life at risk to save another. It's a good thing he knew first aid and how to apply a tourniquet, a small miracle, really.
Brave girl is losing a big part of a leg but her life is being saved. She's very mature and pragmatic about the surgery.
The entire story is amazing!
And we must remember that the shark was simply doing what sharks do by nature. There's no reason to instigate culling.
