I always run the hose into the pool to fill it completely with water and go through the skimmer door from inside the pool into the skimmer. Also use a tennis ball to plug one skimmer and get more suction. Thank you for the vid!

Video footage on the priming process starting from when you first put the hose into the skimmer hole would be valuable. Along with tips. Some people do struggle with the pump losing prime, and some pumps take a bit to prime again.
One big tip I use to help is, place vacuum head & pole into the water
use a small bucket to pour water down the hose from the other end before putting the other end into the skimmer hole
This is for pumps that are tricky after they've lost prime, which they do after sucking a lot of air out of the vacuum hose.
I really like using ropes with lead weights, tying the rope to the ends of the hose, or where you join 2 hoses and need it to be air tight so no air is leaking. I just like having rope and small lead weights on hand just in case it's needed for some reason, such as draining a hot tub by using that vacuum hose as a siphon as an example. Keeps one end on the hot tub's bottom.

My pump is losing prime when I vacuum to waste. There is no air in my hose I made sure of that. Is it normal for it to still lose prime?

Does the other port in the skimmer serve a purpose?

Good question. I've wondered this also.

In some cases the second port on your skimmer may be plumbed to the main drain.

Shouldn't you put in your skimmer basket and use a vacuum plate rather than plugging the vacuum hose directly into the bottom of the skimmer? I would think using the skimmer basket and plate would prevent sucking debris into your sand filter.

What if I have no skimmer? How do I vacuum my pool without a skimmer?

Because I also don't have a skimmer and I vacuum my pool in a different style.

At least you should have the following things
      Vacuum head
      Vacuum pipe
      Pool pole
A motor (1/2hp or 1 hp doesn't matter) (any motor, it can be the motor you use for filtering your water)

Connect vacuum pipe with vacuum head on 1 side and with the suction area of motor on the other side. Now switch on the motor and remove the air water will start falling from motor. Now connect a garden pipe to it and leave it somewhere (for vacuum to waste) or put the pipe in your filter (vacuum to filter)

Never use a golf ball, ever. Friend's brother has a great story about it.

You should always use a vacuum plate on the skimmer. This is not the correct way to vacuum a pool.
