Thank you for this! This answer all of my questions except one: I don't have a waste setting on my filter, only filter, backwash, rinse and winter. What is the correct filter setting for vacuuming a pool?
What is the vacuum plate number on the one you're using? Also what brand is the vacuum head that you're using? I prime my hose differently than your do-I prime mine in front of the return jet, and keep it and the connected vacuum plate underwater the entire time I'm connecting it. I absolutely hate the vacuum plates that came with the pools though because of that swivel removable neck part on it-that 1 part coming apart while I'm vacuuming has caused me to lose prime a dozen times.

@@HallmarkPoolSupplies Thanks for your reply. I'm looking for a vacuum plate with a one piece straight adapter on it this time :) Do you have a part number for one of those? I'm looking at the Hayward SP1106 but need to make sure it isn't too big around. I've used the other one for years, and as long as I'm very careful not to pull my hose too far, in order to not turn it at the adapter part all goes well. The one I have the vacuum hose isn't what is coming off, it's the angled adapter being able to separate from the base. It's like that I guess to allow it to swivel, but when it does the 2 pieces of the vacuum plate (the adapter and the base) come apart from each other, and that then causes it to lose prime because the adapter part with the hose still connected to it floats up just enough from the base part section to mess up the vacuuming of the pool. LOL they are a royal PITA, and it generally decides to come apart when I'm on the far side of the pool where I moved the hose too much. Hi Matk I'm a new pool owner (came with the house and I am learning thanks to your videos!!) Do I keep the filter on as filter when I vacuum? When do I use the "waste" setting? Thank you again for all of your help! ❤
For normal cleaning you will vacuum in the filter position. If a pool is really dirty or algae infested then you would vacuum in the waste position. When vacuuming in waste you will have to add water to the pool.
If this is an above ground pool and you have a sand filter, it sounds like you need to backwash and rinse the system thoroughly. 25 psi is high for starting pressure. As far as a green pool, take a water sample to your local pool store and have it tested so you can get the proper chemicals. Thanks for watching.
It depends on the system that you have and the size of the pump on the system. You could also have a clogged pump or your filter needs to be cleaned, these are a few different things that can cause weak suction. Thanks for watching.
@@HallmarkPoolSupplies ok I just set up the pump recently and vacuumed once so it should be good. But maybe it's because I removed the door and pushed the vacuum head from the inside of the pool into the skimmer instead of how you did it from the outside?
When hooking up the vacuum it is important to get a good tight seal. It is also important to have the stationary end of the vacuum hose hooked to the skimmer and the swivel end of the hose hooked to the vacuum head.
Hey I vacuum pool and it's clean... after filter runs at night I notice dirt comes right back in the pool, re circulated from, the filter/pump... what can possibly be the cause of this? It is a cartridge filter system
You may need to clean the filter cartridge thoroughly, or replace the filter cartridge depending on the quality. If you have any questions, give us a call.
For normal cleaning you will vacuum in the filter position. For pools that are really dirty or algae infested you would vacuum in the waste position. If you vacuum in waste you will have to add water to the pool.

For that size pool we would recommend the Hayward sand filter system W3S180T93S. This system has a 1.5 HP pump and a 150 lbs. sand filter which is the same system in the video.
Hi sir Quick question I put in a new little bucket down on the ground where the pump is it’s full of Pineneedles. My neighbor told me I could not take the lid off or I would never get it back on that it’s holding the pressure of all the water in the above ground pool I’m not talking about the skimmer bucket. I’m talking about the little bucket down below next to the pump . It has Pineneedles in it and I was just wondering how do you get that off? My neighbor said I would never be able to get it back on if I didn’t put Vaseline around it and I don’t remember if we did or not it was last year I wish I could take a video and show you what I’m talking About. Thank you so much Houston Texas.
If you have a sand filter, turn off the pump and plug the skimmer and put your multiport valve on closed. By doing this you can open the lid and clean your pump basket without getting wet, you can also lube your o-ring, this will make it easier to open in the future. When your done, remove your plug from the skimmer and put your valve back on filter and you will be good to go. Thanks for watching.
@@HallmarkPoolSupplies so I turn the entire pump off, but I don’t know where the plug for the skimmer is. I did put the multi port valve on closed, but I still opened it, and water just poured out massively my neighbor quickly, stuck his hand in there and took out all the Pineneedles and quickly put the lid back on with the pouring water. Luckily we got it back on. We just could not do the Vaseline around the O-ring at that moment.
