►The TMs for Double Team and Toxic are banned. Pokemon that learn similar moves naturally are allowed to use it but not the TM.
►I play on x3 speed and use the in-game time for the run along with resets to rank these runs.

Love the nickname 😂 I remember my initial confusion on how to obtain Flygon in Gen 3; young me evidently couldn't fathom that Trapinch of all things could have evolved into Flygon, so I guess for a while there I assumed that either Flygon was a standalone or Trapinch was the standalone (I eventually figured it out just by leveling up my Trapinch though).
Even when I was young, I couldn't resist looking up to get certain mons at a certain point lol. I had enough of guesswork from the 1st two gens and just looked for cool things!
I love flygon. It is my favorite dragon type. Really appreciate anyone who gives it a spotlight! this is my first time seeing one of your runs in a little bit.
Nice. Yea, I had to circle back around to this run because it's just so much fun to play in the medium slow leveling group and I like double weakness Pokemon. The strats feel more fulfilling!
Flygon supremacy 💚 it was the first pokemon i went through all the levels of contests with (in one category anyway) and got it to lv 100.. shes probably lost forever in a copy of ss from my old friend in italy.. oh well. Great video, matt, youre a real one

Yea! Aesthetically it’s much better to use newer sprites on the overlay but I need to show it at least once lol.
I actually love Flygon and have had problems using them in later games, so to see them be so dominant through this was very much a surprise and a treat. Thanks for doing this run, seeing this dragonfly soar above the Mewtwo bar was great.
Also they should 100% be a bug/dragon type and nothing will change my mind on that.
Maybe next year it'll get a bug/dragon mega evolution!
I'm on board with that. Shoulda been a bug/dragon with levitate, or a ground/dragon but with an ability that gives it STAB on bug moves or something. And it's just criminal how long they waited to give it dragon dance.

I love this cross gen idea! Especially with Flygon, which was my favorite pokemon in my Gen 3 playthroughs. I wouldve loved to see a run where you start with Trapinch though. Like I was thinking the whole time ofc a stage 3 pokemon as a starter would be OP for its stats alone lol
The title is how overpowered, not would it be overpowered. Of course it’s overpowered. I’m trying to beat my Mewtwo time that’s near world record levels.
I don’t start with lower stages and evolve though. Just to keep it real, I hate that style of playthrough. All you learn is that Trapinch and Vibrava suck and things aren’t interesting until it evolves. No shade to people that do it that way but I bet 99% of viewers are just waiting to get past the cliche struggles.

Ha. Yea when you don't buy vitamins, it's much quicker to toss it and at the fresh spot in the bags than it is to worry about later when more items get added.
Class vid Matt. Love the vidz. Maybe I missed it, but how come you allow non-gen1 moves like bulldoze & bugbuzz? Flygon is stacked already, do you consider disqualfying backport moves?
The whole point is to compete with Mewtwo and any of these runs without it, just can't. Over 75% of the runs I've done can't even with the new moves but it's just interesting to see. I think seeing sets start with tackle and scratch and just use the same old tired moves would be much less interesting to make and play, which is what it's all about. If I'm not enjoying myself, I'm not making videos lol. This isn't my job haha.

An idea if you wanted ideas. How about traded Pokémon “disobedient” runs like traded mewtwo to compare how much disobedience affects the run overall.
I’ve actually done a video like that years ago and scrapped the idea after. It’s just a run that comes down to pure luck each turn with no strategy and you route out the fastest path to eliminate obedience from Sabrina’s badge. I’d say obedience makes for an awful experience to both play and watch.
Love me some Flygon. It's been neglected by the developers, but it's a real one for sure.
They made Garchomp and was like 'yea that's what we meant to do the first time' lol.

Great channel, love the content! You keep saying Thrash and Outrage are 3-4 turn moves but I always remember it being 2-3 turns
In gen 1 it’s 3-4! Can’t speak for later changes but the game code is 3 to 4!

This was a great video. I've played this in fire red and leaf green.And I can definitely tell you in those games.That pokemon is not so great , especially on lorelei
With the growth rate, all it takes is a little planning! I'm sure a blind run would be pretty bad though.

It was just trial and error. It was something super effective against her that allowed me to make it to Slowbro without getting knocked out !
The sprite is great as was the run. Not gonna lie though, I'm glad my favourite is still top of the leaderboard

Have you thought about trying Mega Evolutions? Since there are no held items and no other Pokémon in battle, you could just always have them mega evolved. I think it would be cool to see

I really like Flygon ,and I always thought it should have been a bug dragon type😂😂 ,by design alone.
Playing around it's unique moveset alongside it great growth rate ,was a treat to watch you do that, because it's seems like a fun Pokémon to play with in gen 1, especially with dragon dance 😂😂.
Mega drain was a good solution for Lorelei, and it's all thanks to the earthquake tm that you could use for Bruno later on.
The best thing about that run is despite it beening a risky run ,it managed to be a restless run!👏👏👏
Outrage in gen 1 with a strong set up move was making the early game very fast, pp efficient throughout the entire run.
I really like the thumbnail by the way, because Flygon looks like it's going to crush gen 1.😊

Uh oh! Hope you feel better to get that Meganium out soon lol. It was fun one to do and the mega drain strat was almost from desperation just trying to see if I could avoid going to level 60+ and it gave me just enough health to make it through so it felt good. Medium slow is just fun to play for real.
Yea I worked extra hard on the thumbnail. Got that custom drawn picture with the contrast and trying out the gameboy cartridge style to make it a little different. Glad you noticed!

Sausage as an encounter sounds like heaven. The voice work and editing is taxing as it is. I wish I could compile my voice into an AI and have a program just edit the videos for me lmao. I'd have such a better time if all I had to do was PLAY.

Tombstoner brother! Always liked flygon. I used one in my ruby version. I remember looking up what a trapinch evolved into because i would have to KO them in the desert due to arena trap.
It was one of my favorites early on. I thought it was the dratini and larvitar of Gen 3 lol.

How hard would it be to program the erratic and fluctuating growth rates into gen 1?
I believe fluctuating is the fastest until around level 20. Checking some of those weird growth rate pokemon might be fun. Breloom comes to mind with it's 130 base attack and interesting typing.

I could do it and I’ve thought about it but Gen 3 will see some of those runs eventually. I’m careful which mons I run in the series because of things like Diggersby and Obstagoon in the past getting little views but maybe there’s something I overlooked.
I always thought that Yanmega should have been a bug dragon type more than Flygon.
They should have just put more thought into making them one Pokemon with a better typing.

Ah yes, early badge boosting move, STAB outrage and bulldoze. Yeah this should be a cakewalk.
Even Bug Buzz is physical this gen and with no fairy and steel types in gen 1 and the 30+ poison types being weak instead of resistant to bug (alongside the super strong psychic type), with only pathetic and rare fire and fighting types resisting it alongside flying... a bug move is probably actually useful in gen 1.
Even the 80 special will probably not hamper it significantly simply because nothing in gen 1 resists the 180 BP outrage.
So really looking forward to diet Garchomp tearing gen 1 a new one. Flygon even has the good medium slow exp group to gain levels very quickly early on.
The 2+ year old one was pretty good but I wanted to give it a facelift to modern rules. You about described it all!
Even though the Flygon line is based on bugs, Gamefreak didn't make them Bug/Dragon type solely because Bug type offensively is bad. I think some ROM hacks make Flygon a Bug/Dragon type, I would do the same for my own ROM hack. Also, the whole line would need to get an early Bug Bite and a mid-level U-Turn for some Bug STAB moves. Flygon also needs a buff in Special Attack to further differentiate it from my boy Garchomp, since Flygon's completely outclassed by Garchomp, especially competitively.
I don’t disagree that bug types aren’t strong but I just think it’s based on the desert dwelling ant lion and it prob got translated bad.

I kind of know what you mean, but I also don't. I think you mean Tyrantrum but it also doesn't have 161 attack so I'll just say yes, lol. Tyranitar had a run a little bit ago!

I was going to do Tyrantrum a long time ago, like 2022ish but it didn't pan out. Maybe I'll take a second look at it sometime!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Nice! I just did a Tyrantrum playthrough modifying dragon to a physical type (not a big deal since only dragon move is dragon rage and ghost is nightshade/lick). I have tried gen 6 (has dig) and gen7 (starts with rock slide, stomp, and tail whip) I was able to finish game in 3:35 (Mewtwo time 3:28 for me). I think with some good optimization, definitely a contender with stats and med fast exp rate.
Speaking of faster leveling dragons, Archaludon with Hone Claws and Body Slam sounds well suited to gen 1.
I think we'll eventually see all of the dragons but the newer the mon, the longer the spritework takes. I'd love to do Hydrapple but I can't make a sprite work to save my life.

Perhaps a Flygon regional variant could be Bug/Dragon. Anyway, I would think a pokémon like Froslass with its Gen VII learnset would do fairly well due to its typing and Medium-Fast Experience Group. Although I don't think Froslass would bring in the views.
It's best shot is a mega next year when they come back!

Flygon has an absolutely fantastic design. Really too bad it gets overshadowed by the other ground/dragons. So much fun than you ended up running it’s mixed set though, base 80 special isn’t have bad.
Yea Garchomp is a beast too but that medium slow group really helps out. It was a really interesting run and I'm very happy with how it turned out but we'll circle around back to Garchomp soon...ish, lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 lol, it’ll be interesting to see what pans out better, growth rate or like 80 more stats. No rush obviously. I had to go look at what Gen 9 dragon types had the medium slow growth rate, I figured it was probably cyclizar but tatsugiri was a surprise. Cyclizar would probably be really good into Gen 2, but man tatsugiri has a truly terrible move pool.
I might think of the Gen 9 box art Pokémon one day but Cyclizar will prob never get a run haha. I think Garchomp will have an easier time due to swords dance on Lorelei and won’t have to pander to it. I have a really old video but it’s in Sanqui and from pre-optimized days.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 lol yeah I wouldn’t expect anyone to do a cyclizar run, it’s a very weird and broken mon. The box art ledgendaries have insane base stats but the speed is probably a waste. I haven’t seen that run, but everyone loves garchomp.
Garchomp was the original 'original' cross gen run from 2021! The original Tombstoner as well! I think fighting/dragon is a cool typing and electric/dragon is fine on it's own. It's just an idea but honestly I'm not sure I have the time for versus videos anymore unless people want to wait an extra week or two.

I got a mega run in the works! Been feeling it out for a while but Mewtwo is at it's most OP in gen 1. Later gens don't start with Psychic and I bet Mewtwo could still beat the mega lol.

I realize now what the problem is with cross gen (maybe, idk, I’m some guy). I feel like we gave up on psychic types being “super threatening pokemon” past gen 1 so there aren’t a lot of like super interesting power psychic types to do.
Made me think of Azelf Mesprit and Uxie tho. One of those, prolly Azelf?, would maybe give Mewtwo a solid run? Maybe?
Psychic rightfully had to be nerfed and that's fine. It's also fitting that Mewtwo's gen 1 set is still it's strongest starting solo set to this day. Unless something starts with Psychic and another solid move and has high special, it's probably not going to cut it.

Here's why
1. Horrible preevolutions
2. 6th n 7th gyms n drake immune to ground moves
3. Norman n Juan will make flygon regret it's existence
4. PHOEBES ghost have ice beam if you survive gym 8s ice beam fun
4. BUT WAIT IT GETS BETTER because glacia exists n she's an ice elite four member
5. Wallace will make you MISS the struggle sessions because his water types come WITH ICE BEAM n his Pokémon are bulky
Also milotic n walrein in general are ANNOYING like a sandslash n sand attack are in GEN 1 except you're QUAD WEAK to them
(Steven is FREE as ground types n water types are EXCELLENT hardcountera to him
I think given the opportunity you could beat JRose11 even at his own rules.
Of course. If I can win other more intense races with people that play the game hundreds of times a year, I could easily beat someone that plays these games like 30 times tops.

Nah. It’s too rudimentary to put damage and hurt stuff on it. I like the old sprites but the 3rd/4th Gen sprites are gorgeous.
you should make an entire hack where that tm is actually a move called tombstoner. I'd download the patch.

Lol, don't diminish the strat. I don't think many would think to use a special move that you got on the 4th gym for the hardest fight in the game when you have DD and physical moves that do way more.

So my prediction would be that Bug Buzz trivializes a lot off fights( erica "allmost forrgott Koga" ,Agatha, champion ) due to Being Physical and thus boosted by dancing .
Edit so Bugbuzz: gotd eleted quitabit earlier that expexted i thought it was at least gonna be there for Koga but either way i guess the Ranges are worse ?

Not even levitate but abilities in general lol. That's what makes some of these runs fun like Slaking and Regigigas.

Outrage should be 90 base power, in Gen 2 and 3 it was 90, since this is Gen 1 but feel 90 would be more appropriate
