Can we get the rocket section at 0.75x speed, followed by a separate compilation video of every Pokémon's nugget bridge run. I think those would just rocket your channel into the stratosphere!
Your HP DV rambling is probably one of my favorite segments of a run in a while. I loved you scrambling to explain what you were trying to explain just to say it didn't matter lmao
HP can matter for some Pokemon but being like 30 HP short on most Pokemon won't matter much at the end of the day but I did have to program it in and I wanted bring it up somehow haha.
Matt, we watch your videos because we enjoy them. I don't feel like any part of it is a waste of time. It shows that you care about the content you put out, and I want to say thanks for giving it your best.
Appreciate that! As I get more Crystal runs out, I can be more comfortable cutting more tedious things out. There's a certain point where you can't say sentences like 'I get Abra, the bike, Kenya, and talk to the squirt bottle lady' without just feeling like I'm padding time lmao. I'm glad you enjoy them and think highly of them!
The deep lore on hp and hidden power was appreciated and I always try to give you the best retention time bro, you're one of my favs. I like your take, it's almost the same as Scott, we know you think for hours and plan meticulously, but your narration is a lot saucier and light hearted than scotts. Both of you guys make invariable valid points, and I loved watching you dominate the smeargle race, and almost winning the porygon race. Good job Matt.
Appreciate that! Yea, my goal is to always be a little more real about it. As time goes on and you can't tell if it's actually someone's own run, ideas, or discoveries somewhere else, I just try to keep it simple and keep it a one man team.
Yea, I watched a couple of Crystal streams and it's wild. Hard to directly compare but considering I've won and almost won another race with the same rules, I think I can. The in game times were like 5 hours for a good run and I don't even think this is a 'great' Pokemon so I expect we'll see some 3h 15m times eventually.
Great run homie. Scizor is one of my absolutely favorite pokemon. I remember being pretty bummed out when I found out I had to trade to get it. I swear your videos get funnier every time. For example that Hyper Beam bit and Chuck brother the Pikachu meme face, chef's kiss. Looking forward to the next one and can't wait to see the new overlay homie. 🤘😎 P.S. Made it to the end p.s.s. Hidden power calcs suck.
Actually loved the hidden power rant. Usually just hear about it but it was very helpful to see visuals. (Real one every time always love hearing what you have to say. Favorite runner by far)
Appreciate it! Yea, I wanted to talk about it but also told myself I was forcing a scriptless voiceover so I couldn't quite articulate it the way I'd want to but the graphics help!
On another note, I am glad you let Scizor use Double Team. The visual of Scizor darting around, tearing into an opponent unable to keep up, is beautiful. It captures what I think Scizor should be able to do in combat, based on it's sleek design! Also, I am a real one, I very much enjoyed your rant!
With SD not being a TM in gen 2, truly only a few pokémon got to enjoy that luxury. And I find it funny that the few gifted with it are bug types. Also gotta appreciate how in the gen 2 runs you went from mocking juggler Irwin to appreciating the man, the myth, the legend with a level 2 voltorb.
I really loved your nomination for how to handle split data! Taking the average of the top three/five Pokémon and making them the “aspired to times” that a Pokémon’s splits are trying to catch up to sounds really cool! And would also highlight any weird quirks about some runs too I think, like interesting routing orders. You could even just have it go by “badge number” rather than “trainer name” since that order can vary so much. I really like the split data though and think it’s a fun highlight!
For sure. I wanted to just do badge numbers but I couldn't quite map out how to get it to auto work in the splits. The result is that some things will look weird in the midgame but for the most part if you look at the first few gyms and the final few splits, you can get the real story.
Yea I think I got the solution I'll try out next time. I got a little piece of software set up for the occasion and it should give us a good comparison to whatever I put in. Like livesplit but for in game time lol.
I enjoyed your rants about hidden power and the one at the end. I myself find the details about how things like hidden power and DV's work. I'm looking forward to your next video and to seeing your new overlay!
I've poured probably too much work into it but I had to or keep using old versions of software. It also gave me a reason to redo clunky and bad lines of code so maybe it'll all work out lol.
I do want to say I'm really excited to actually see Double Team used in a solo run. I think Double Team as a TM makes sense as a ban, because of its pretty much universal distribution and if it does end up being centralizing as a move, it's a really uninteresting and potentially very frustrating strategy. But for Pokemon that learn it naturally, especially from Gen 2 onwards, I don't think it's broken. It's never really been properly tested, but I think trying to use Evasion strats to try to skimp out on levels and grinding will often end up backfiring. Speed, KO ranges, and bulk are the things I think are your fundamentals in a solo run, its your veggies on making a good run fast, and trying to skip your veggies by using Double Team I just do not think will work. It takes time to get to +6 every single fight and getting KO'd because you're weaker and giving your opponent more turns to do damage or your bulk is lesser and Pokemon just do a lot of damage I think eats up any time gain you would get from skipping optional fights. I think its just a part of a Pokemon's toolset and will only shine when it feels good to use, like with Scizor. As a final aside, the badge boost glitch in Gen I I think makes Evasion a lot stronger than it would be so that is what I would consider an exception. For splits, in speedruns the value in split data a lot of the time is as a point of comparison. It makes it easy to see how far ahead or behind in a run you are and makes it kind of obvious especially to viewers if the run is good or the run is going badly. That's where I think splits really shine the most, which is as a way of introducing comparison. So my two suggestions for that would be 1) Having optimized vs unoptimized splits. The value here is you just get to show how much improvement you've made over other attempts. This is admittedly a bit shaky because I know you don't like to include the unoptimized run, so it could come off as a bit contextless, but at the very minimum its nice for spectacle and showing off which areas needed optimization more than others. 2) Comparing to a good, high tier run. The benefit here is that you get a similar effect to comparing to a world record in a good idea of how good or bad a run is. A run that is flagging pretty behind is going to be obvious and a run that's doing well or perhaps even excelling over the chosen control splits. Now the issue is...what do you choose? Do you have a constant baseline "good" run? Do you change what run you compare to for the narrative of the video (for example, comparing Noctowl to Fearow). This is definitely the more complex route to take and the answer might be to do both in a video. Obviously the main value of split data is kind of lost, there's not really enough of a solo running scene to grind out WRs and have solid, objective data to compare with, especially since everyone does their runs a bit differently. But I think these are the two areas where it makes the most sense to include split data. Sorry for the long message, I had a lot on my mind. Thanks for the great videos as always, I'm super impressed with Scizor's performance. Really dominant Pokemon.
No problem on the long comment but the main thing and basically only time I used it for was for Karen sand attack manipulation, which didn't work out, and for Red. I don't think it was used outside of that but it did help get a dramatically lower time. As for splits, I do the blind run and test some so after around the 2nd run, I'm going to start pulling data of what a 'B tier, 80/100 run' would look like if a Pokemon is around that or a little behind and have that data represent what it's chasing. If it's below, cool, but if it far surpasses it, that's cool too. I have some setup for the next video but it's a pretty sophisticated set of software I have going to compare splits and splits of a different run through in game time via Vue coding alone. The main thing is that I don't want to to split data manually. It's incredibly tedious but I will make improvements on it next. The problem with overlays and the coding is that even Red and Yellow being similar, you have to account for both versions still and it's annoying but Crystal is a different beast so you end up having to tweak things multiple times to get it to work for all games and I haven't really started on Crystal yet but Red/Yellow looks functional and I'll showcase it on stream soon!
I love the comparison between a Pokemon and types like it BUUUUUT if you just did a quick mention of one or a quick few together, I would like to see a top 5 comparison as well more in depth with comparisons about strategy, and stat differences. In the end I still love the content!
With the solo run, I usually show the other runs at the end but I've been redoing Crystal metrics so this is only the second one. I do stuff like that for versus runs but when I go in depth with the stats, moves, TMs, and the whole video is about the strats, I guess this leaves me a little confused about what you actually want!
While it took far too long I'm glad that in Gen 4 the physical/special split was introduced & almost every Pokemon finally got good STAB. Scizor in particular got massively helped with its moveset in Gen 4.
Real one! Scizor is a beast, one of my favorite bugs so it was cool to see him dominate the run. Take the time you need and don’t feel like you have to get something else if schedule does not allow. Take care!
That was great to watch. I love Scizor so it was cool to see him champ the game. I also like the updates to your layouts they look nice. You mentioned it in the video it might be cool to see the split times vs the top 3 or so runs. Would allow you to maybe show where guys are weak or elite. Something fun to look at
My solution will be to have a 'pace' time they are racing and it'll depend on the Pokemon. Like if after the blind run, tweak phase, and another run I determine a Pokemon could get a B tier score, I'll have it race a hypothetical B tier run.
Thanks Chuck Brother! Saw the cideo and I'm going to rewatch it because this is one of my favorite pokemon. One of your channel members did mention the use of Agility instead of Double Team and I wanted to know is the risk of being hit greater than outspeeding the opponent? In the Red fight would things have changed if you outsped Charizard with full Swords Dance +6 buff while Venasaur was doing solarbeam?
It would have made it faster. Not by much, but at least a little. I held on to double team just because of how the AI handles accuracy but it didn't work out in the Karen part in the video. If there's ever a redo, agility would be a little faster.
I think the bug/steel typing is so good it makes it not as good because it resists everything but in other runs it was something I have been noticing and messing around with.
Dude, love your videos. I've been a watcher for a while. Love to see the progress in quality that you have made. Keep up the good work, man. Love to see someone put in the work and grow like you have.
real one!! i enjoy the rants lol. i'm also a huge fan of fixing erratic spinners so you reduce the chance of human error when you don't want to battle them!
Yea, the main thing is that I can skip them no matter what but it’s just less tedious and random to just change the code. I think showing an impromptu front and back visit of me avoiding all the spinners accomplished that!
Dayum a crime scene played right before Reds eyes, I can see his emotionless face drop into a deep depression, officer Jenny is dumbfounded she took a week off to process it all after she heard about it
Love the video today! And I totally understand if you can't get one out next week, it sounds like you're planning a lot of behind the scenes work and I don't want you to overdo it. Take care!
I'm thinking push, push, push, and just skip the Christmas weekend since no one is watching RUclips on the 24th/25th and just do one more for the end of the year.
Metal Coat put to good use. Glad I made the right decision as a kid. Then again, I'm not sure if evolving Scyther into Scizor uses up the coating or not? Anyway, it's cathartic to see Whitney's Miltank get outplayed at her own game. Good to know Fury Cutter can be useful. A lot of the data goes over my head, but it is good to share. I always appreciate folks talking shop about their passions. I don't see a need to remove any of it, and I'm sure the split comparisons will become more useful with more Crystal runs. In addition, Hidden Power is to this day one of the most complex moves in JRPGs, as far as I'm concerned, so it's cool to see a little of how it works under the hood. Lastly, liking the new moveset list! The text really pops, so it's much easier to read.
Yea the Fury Cutter moments were nice. I really like the move, it just takes a while to be good so finding some situations felt cool. I'm also glad you like the new move text. I'm going to improve it but the feedback has been mostly negative so I'm going to test it probably Wednesday/Thursday on stream.
Rant-listening Real One. Another great run, I enjoyed hearing the non scripted parts as they sound more natural. Either way I'll be here for the next one.
Your off script stuff was great as was the run, being a real one has its perks. The run was great as ever and it'll be interesting to see where you go with the splits.
Love the video and the ranting at the end. I'm curious though, wouldn't agility have been better than double team for Scizor given you could one shot everything thanks to sword dance ?
It could have saved some time but I kept double team due to practice and how it effects some sand attack users. It didn't work out in the video but sometimes it just wouldn't use it and that's the main reason. If I ever redo the run and need to save some seconds, agility over double team is definitely the play.
I forgive you for skipping the Rocket section. The ad lib stream of consciousness style is fun, even if it is a little unhinged. You had me till the end.
The first time I ever saw Scizor was in the Battle Factory in Emerald. Shame it doesn't really get good Bug or Steel moves, but in Gens 1 and 2 I guess all you really need for physical attackers is Normal and Ground! (also Scizor holding the hamburger was a fantastic image) I like seeing the split data just because. I guess if you're able (and as you do more runs) you can compare the splits with the current top run and the average run, but at the same time I feel like the more runs you do, the more longtime viewers will be able to see the split data and get a good idea how things stack up regardless of any direct comparisons.
I found a decent solution but I it will be against a run of my choosing. For now, I think a 'pace' to compare to is the best. Whether it be Mewtwo, A tier, B tier, C tier, etc., I can just auto have the splits compare each other. I've been focusing A LOT on the coding side of things.
It seems like Gamefreak was scared to give it any good attacks at all. It didn't even get a legitimate coverage move until Generation 4 with Superpower, which isn't great. I suppose because scizor tends to be busted in-game.
Real One here! Glad to see Scizor get a dominant run in this game! Fun Fact for thise that don't know in the comments: If you use the Transfer Pack with either Gold, Silver or Crystal in Pokémon Stadium 2 and you have a Scizor, that Scizor can appear in the Clear Cut minigame.
I don't really have enough of an opinion on the split data thing, but just for sheer nostalgia I'd love to see the rocket sections in general. They're usually kind of a steamroll in a solo run but I remember back in the day taking lower levels into there for fun.
Made it to the end after 2.. maybe 3 rants? Im gonna need another sodie pop after that one. Jokes aside great video. Good to see a bug put in some work
Easily the best so far. There's so much bloat in gen 2 included in runs and if you include curse being on every learnset, I just feel it's my duty to offer something different lol.
I forced myself to go off script for this one. I got away from it and got a little self conscious but I was able to get through videos much easier this way.
I think a tier list is all you need when comparing pokemon. Split data can make the list more accurate but too many metrics just splits hairs. * split metrics seem like they would be relevant in a vs video though. And I made it to the end of THIS video lol*
The general rule I'll try to go with is to show it a couple of times but it's data I personally use to refine a run. Like on next week's video I didn't like a couple of parts, changed things up, but the data showed me it didn't matter a ton and helped me make a big change by the end! I have software that snapshots the splits, auto subtracts them from the previous, and has a pace for certain tiers now so you'll probably see more of it!
yo yo yo matt been a big fan since the beginning! id say give porygon z a try, i played kanto expansion pak and i think it is the second best pokemon in the game after mewtwo. 135 special, 90 speed, i think 80-90 for hp, def and atk. Also learns Nasty Plot, which makes it unstoppable. 1. Nasty Plot 2. Thunderbolt 3. Ice Beam 4. Recover / Thunder Wave / Hyper Beam / Psychic
Maybe. I'd like to do Porygon 2 one day then look into that. I still think the other nasty plot users that start with better moves like A Chu and A Nine will be better but it would definitely be pretty good.
Well double team can deter the AI from using sand attack but the problem is that it's not guaranteed since Scizor has elite typing. It was for Karen's Umbreon to near guarantee the fight but she looked at it and thought going for a 56% accurate Sand Attack was still better than a resisted Faint Attack. Agility would make the Red fight faster though but it wouldn't be run changing though.
I need to redo some of the other ones to get to a point where I can make tier cards. I've been working on the overlay and I basically got Red/Yellow done but I need to transfer it over to Crystal, which sadly isn't just copy/paste so I'll prob take a week off sometime to get it going.
Honestly, as far as the split data goes, I would take your top 2, 3, and 4 finishers. Likely, they’ll represent the true mean of top times without the extremes. For instance, if 1st place is 30 minutes quicker than any other time and 5th is an hour slower, it skews data. From your gen 1 videos, you get a good idea of what is a top tier time and this should eliminate random outliers.
My idea is to have a 'pace' they are racing against. Since I do the blind run, tweak, and do a playthrough, I'll know about where it's max potential lies so I can set it up against the top tier, A tier, B tier, etc. It'll give some more information and give people an idea what it takes to get x or y rank. I have the software done for Red/Yellow so far.
Anyone else getting a weird RUclips glitch where the video always skips from 10:36 to 12:51 ? It seems to happen even if I watch the video on mobile, web browser, or in an app. Maybe I should contact technical support.
Real one! Loved listening to your little hidden power rant. As for the split data, I guess what you could do a little comparison, like next to each split for the current Pokemon you show the overall fastest time to that point (fastest time to beat Falkner, fastest time to finish the Johto section, and so on for each split). By the way, idk if you take suggestions for what Pokemon you do for your cross-gen runs, but I was watching some of your older videos recently, and in your Haxorus run you mentioned wanting to run a mon with high special that got an early Outrage. Goodra fits that description perfectly: as per the Chansey rule it'd have 150 special and it gets Outrage at level 1 from the Gen 7 learnset. It also gets Earthquake and Rock Slide via TM off a 110 base attack, and it gets some other goodies like Thunderbolt. So that might be a nice run if you want to do it. I just don't know how many people would be interested in watching a Goodra video. Anyway, enjoyed the video and take care!
For sure. I have a program almost finalized to compare it some data I enter. I think the best thing is like data from certain tier thresholds since I test the run out and optimize and have an idea so for example the comparison will be top rank, A tier, B tier, or where ever I think the run will land so we can see how close it is.
I wonder what the Gamefreak devs was smoking when they came up with this things moveset? I mean it can learn Sunny day. Why TF for? That is equal to if there was a move that doubled rock type moves and then Charizard could learn it. 😂😂😂
Sunny Day is just 'clear sky' in its native language and it is why you see almost every Pokemon learn it. The English translation makes it seem like a drought lol.
I feel like there’s something I’m not supposed to comment on… but… I can’t even tell you what that is. I feel like I remembered it but it’s gone now. Weird!
Just a thought for the split data. Rather than comparing to a single exemplar top time, it might be better to compare to a an example that might share some similarities like type or Evo stage. Comparing something like Scizor with something like Forretress because of their shared typing and Evo stage would work, while comparing something like Chikorita to Hooh would feel super weird. I don't know if type or stage should take priority, but I feel it would be better than a static comparison Mon.
I was thinking tier pace. Like if I've blind tested and optimized a run, I'll know about where it could be by the final run so I can just have a 'C tier pace' for a mon that's close to that to see its progress.
Hmm. That's not a bad idea, but I worry that if we know that it is pre ordained as C Tier it could take away some of the... Not build up but I guess anticipation of seeing where it ends up placing on the final scorecard. If we were to see a more success agnostic comparison we could extrapolate the info for ourselves. By the way, just go to the end of the video and I didn't feel any of the bloat you were worried about here. Truth be told one of the reasons I prefer your stuff is because it has a very natural flow to it. So many other people feel too scripted.
Yea but like you said if I just compare it to Mewtwo then it just wouldn't tell us anything. I'll likely always overshoot it since I haven't personally done the optimized run yet and it's just snippets I've gathered from previous runs. So for example I'll probably do what a run would look like for a flat 60/100, C tier pace with 8 resets or something on the Growlithe stream because my practice is limited and I don't think anything higher it could beat. It's new and will take some refining but I think it'll give a good idea of what you need to get for a certain rank. I'll test and see how it goes for a few vids.
I've had a rough week, so it's great to see a run from ya with the big 'ol steel bug. Thanks again for making these, though it's weird. The video says I was watching something for the past two and a half minutes, but I don't remember anything? Though I would like to offer one bit of feedback; the new movelist is a bit cluttered with too many of the same colors, maybe keeping the backgrounds the same but changing the text to be a thinner font with no outline and just black would help? Just a thought.
I've done just black forever but just trying something out. I'm going to tweak it and give a thicker outline and mess around with it on stream and in the next video. It's a process!
Just a thought on your UI: I don't know if PP is all that important on the level up/tm list. You could remove it for better readability. As well, telling a type's move by color (and probably more so for color blind people) is difficult. Could I recommend adding a repeating background of the type symbol (gen 9 I think are the most easily identified) in addition to the color? Just as a low opacity checker pattern would likely make it a little easier to tell.
I like the idea of a type symbol but the problem is that I have to manually make them as opposed to most other styles that just pull the data from a site. I'm going to move some things around, thicken the borders, and test it out on stream soonish and see. PP could go but I do like to see the full information personally. The overlay is for everyone but it's mostly for me to see information as I play, haha.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I agree. But when it comes to PP most moves are 10/15 with only the 5PP ones being of real importance to keep track of. But do whatever improves your runs! A shame about the icon thing. I was hoping if you had a small transparent PNG that the overlay program could print it as a low opacity pattern on top of the color, within the box.
I’d have to manually place it but it is something I might look into when I’m redoing the crystal code for the overlay. After I finish up with videos and get the stream ready, I can take some time.
I still think Durant is the bug-steel type that slams the hardest. It's really Hustle, more so than its stats, that makes it so good though, so I'm not sure how well it'd translate to gens 1&2.
Seizor got to use fury cutter and I'm really happy that move was finally used(I bet that Forretress was crying in the back , because it can't learn any bug move in gen 2 😂😂😂,and besides Seizor did better). Fury cutter was helping me out in a run I did ,and I realized how good it can be ,once it hits.😊 And about the thing we should all forget about, I really liked the ranting ,and how you were trying to talk off script, it made the video kind of special in a way. And while you were mentioning how hard it was to get that certain voiceover to sound great and engaging , I really felt for you, because it happens to me all the time while making the voiceover part, and I'm always off script😊. But after doing all of this , you kind of feel proud that you did it and we can listen to ut as well. Well done 😮👏👏👏💪 And by the way , I tested the turbo fire ,and it's very odd. While I set it up to the A button it doesn't work, and with the B button it kind of gives up after scrolling through the third text box😂😂😂 in 4 times speed.
Ha, Forretress was just crying that Scizor got a non normal move and didn't have to grind to get rid of self destruct. Fury Cutter getting to 270 effective power is no joke though! As for scriptless, I got really good with it last year but just got away from it like I was afraid it wouldn't be focused and not interesting or something like that. It is much faster and I want to streamline the process so I forced myself to do it for this one to get back to it because I think natural beats scripted any day of the week. There is a fine balance, for sure. I told you the turbos are weird in gen 2. They half work except in some areas then just don't function at all in others. It makes it very confusing going back to different versions.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 A script can definitely organize the data in the run, but some improvisation can make it sound more organic in some spots. 🤔 It's a matter of time and experience to know what is the right balance between the two. I don't have any expectations from the turbo fire anymore to work in gen 2, for sure🤣🤣🤣. I'll just mash as hard as I can .😂
The rare candies is where it hurts the most because you are usually using multiple at once. Good thing I have the noise gate to hide the clicks from the controller lol. I used to not and there was one stream where it was just 'click click click click' and no one said anything until a comment after lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 😂😂 The noise can be annoying to some viewers when it comes to live streams, I don't personally really care about background noises in live streams. I'm using a keyboard, and by the time I get to the end of the run my fingers really need that rest, especially, whenever I do hard battles and I reset for so many times😅.
For me, I like to each hot wings, drink soup loudly, and tap my desk with a spoon while streaming. Adds to the atmosphere and weeds out the non-believers.
He is really easy to obtain in Gold & silver (not crystal). You can battle it in the wild at level 40 using a coin case glitch. It takes about 3 minutes to set up. Let me know if you want teaching how to do it.
Quick Claw & Curse Steelix isn't so bad, just be careful how you use it. Of course when using it on its own for the whole games another story. @@GymLeaderMatt1987
Yeah, I made it to the very very end. I always do, actually. And yes, you were rambling quite a bit but it is all good. You always want to be efficient, you u don't want your videos to be longer than needed, and most other pokemon youtubers are not as good as you with this, so don't be hard on yourself over this
Maybe. I still wouldn't set up against Pikachu's neutral damage but Double Team was helpful with the AI in Karen's fight. It didn't work out in the video but that was the idea and I was already at the max runs I do for a Pokemon. I'm sure it could save 30 seconds, but I don't want to redo a run for 30 seconds lol.

Yea, I watched a couple of Crystal streams and it's wild. Hard to directly compare but considering I've won and almost won another race with the same rules, I think I can. The in game times were like 5 hours for a good run and I don't even think this is a 'great' Pokemon so I expect we'll see some 3h 15m times eventually.
awesome video 😊 just wanted to say, from about 10:43 to about 12:51 the video is blank? might be an editing error but still awesome!
Yeah pretty weird
I was confused for a second but I see what you did, haha.
P.S. Made it to the end
p.s.s. Hidden power calcs suck.
Oh yea, I think the overlay is 99% completed. I need to do a test run on stream and it should be all good. Maybe it'll go well!
Remember everyone, we must never speak of the Hidden Power rant in the middle of the video. XD
Also, the hamburger of victory!
Good thing you didn't mention it, haha.
It really does. It's banned due to the access by every Pokemon but there's surprising few that learn it naturally so it's cool to see sometimes!
Yea, I'd like to do Belly Drum sometime but the Pokemon that get it naturally are severely limited. Poliwhirl or Snorlax basically lol.
Real one. Propably everyone loves Scizor so always nice to see a good performance from this cool steel bug.
I think everyone does as well. The old 'cross gen' run was my highest viewed before lol.
One of my favorite Pokemon designs
Yea the shiny is also very cool.
I do like the idea of comparing split data to something, ideally another run that takes a similar anount of time.
Made it to the end... Listening to the video while driving and the last few minutes were indeed unhinged
Thanks Matt you're a real one
Thanks! HP DVs are no joke but also simultaneously don't matter, lol.
Love me the bug steel boys. Scizor and Escavalier are definitely still in my top mons. Great work giving Clamps the run he deserves!
I even like Wormadam trash cloak! Genesect is cool too. There's actually a good bit now that I'm thinking about it.
So my two suggestions for that would be
1) Having optimized vs unoptimized splits.
It's cool to see Fury Cutter get its little moment
Yea, I love the move. I've been waiting on a Pokemon that can fully use it and sadly I think this is about as good as it gets lol.
I also like fury cutter. I really like it when it is built up and it just "cuts" the opponent down in one hit.
Getting to see it's effective power was a huge win in my book.
It's crazy because it didn't even need a ton of help but it was dominant competitively for a while.
Real one! Scizor is a beast, one of my favorite bugs so it was cool to see him dominate the run. Take the time you need and don’t feel like you have to get something else if schedule does not allow. Take care!
Always! I'll likely push and just miss the actual Christmas week since no one watches RUclips the 24th/25th anyway.
I made it to the end of your rant ! Cause the real ones come back and see it through to the end even if it takes two sittings ! 😎
However you gotta get through it!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 ok the AI is something I didn't consider thanks for the explanation.
Maybe there's more growing to be had! It feels very slow but I'm chipping away at it!
real one!! i enjoy the rants lol. i'm also a huge fan of fixing erratic spinners so you reduce the chance of human error when you don't want to battle them!
Yea, the main thing is that I can skip them no matter what but it’s just less tedious and random to just change the code. I think showing an impromptu front and back visit of me avoiding all the spinners accomplished that!
Dayum a crime scene played right before Reds eyes, I can see his emotionless face drop into a deep depression,
officer Jenny is dumbfounded she took a week off to process it all after she heard about it
He thought no one would win since he made the leveling curve of the game so awful.
🤣 that's why he didn't show up until Aloan, it's canon in my mind now, Gold sure did become a bad ass 🤣
Thanks for the upload Mr. Gym Leader, I love having these to watch and pass the time
Glad you find them enjoyable!
I wouldn't mention your crazy man ramblings. I just hope everyone has fun!
Fun time is over. It's time for some sweaty optimized Crystal!
I look forward to these videos every week and it’s extra exciting when it turns out to be crystal
I'm working on overlay behind the scenes code atm but hopefully I can get Crystal caught up with Red/Yellow soon!
i made it to the end, praise jesus. Love your work, and always glad to hear you rant and rave about what you do.
Awesome! Appreciate it, brother.
Great video as always!
I appreciate that! Thanks!
Rant-listening Real One. Another great run, I enjoyed hearing the non scripted parts as they sound more natural. Either way I'll be here for the next one.
For sure. Even when I script I allow some level of unscripted parts in there to avoid being robotic. I fully agree!
Johto introduced 2 of the best and coolest looking bug Pokémon: Scizor and Heracross
Both are great choices!
Your off script stuff was great as was the run, being a real one has its perks.
The run was great as ever and it'll be interesting to see where you go with the splits.
I cooked up some code that I'll bring in next week. I think it'll be good for what I want to accomplish. Thanks for being a real one!
Hey how does the hp iv hidden power thing go I missed it
What? That never happened.
Hi Gym Leader Matt, great video and I was wondering what the song is at the beginning of the video as I really like it.
A super nintendo game called waterworld. I belice the map or menu theme. Idk. It's been a stream staple for a while.
I got pretty good at it last year but for some reason I lost confidence in it so I need to reel it in a little and refine it!
My favorite part of early gens is Pokémon company refused to give stab to so many Pokémon
They just didn't put enough moves in tbh. It got better over time but there's such a lack of steel/bug moves in general.
The first time I ever saw Scizor was in the Battle Factory in Emerald. Shame it doesn't really get good Bug or Steel moves, but in Gens 1 and 2 I guess all you really need for physical attackers is Normal and Ground! (also Scizor holding the hamburger was a fantastic image)
I like seeing the split data just because.
We might talk about the transfer pack before the end of the year.
Gonna have to watch this one again later when my new scizor plush arrives
Watch it a few times! I actually think that does nothing for me but watch when you want!
Haven't watched just yet but just wanted to say that thumbnail is siiiiick 👍
Thanks, brother. Been taking TCG inspiration, drawing and upscaling them, and just trying to find a minimalist style that works for me.
I don't really have enough of an opinion on the split data thing, but just for sheer nostalgia I'd love to see the rocket sections in general. They're usually kind of a steamroll in a solo run but I remember back in the day taking lower levels into there for fun.
Nostalgia is cool but you are right. In a solo run it makes you wonder why they are in the game, haha. They are such a lower level.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 yeah. it really feels like a game segment that should have happened a lot sooner in the game honestly.
Yea, maybe hideout after the 3rd gym, maybe takeover after the 5th. Hell, maybe 2nd and 4th.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I could see that working. I was thinking 4th, myself.
23:37 fade to black.. nice Metallica reference I like it.
Glad you noticed!
Made it to the end after 2.. maybe 3 rants? Im gonna need another sodie pop after that one. Jokes aside great video. Good to see a bug put in some work
Easily the best so far. There's so much bloat in gen 2 included in runs and if you include curse being on every learnset, I just feel it's my duty to offer something different lol.
for the splits, add the top time for each class A B C D E. that way we can sorta of see about what time the pokemon will rank at the end
That's the idea right now. Generic split paces for marks into tiers depending on how testing went.
fun video, but i wish i could have seen you knock out all those zubats and koffings in the rocket section....real one
Lmao, no swords dance required!
You gotta the rocket hideout compilation vid from every run, on 1x speed. for the rocket hideout lovers out there /s
Followed up by the takeover? Now you're speaking my language.
Real one, haha
Off-script, semi-insane matt is best matt.
I think your approach is great. I just didn't think you should stress out about it. If showing the splits makes for a better video more power to you.
No curse, props to you! 👏🏻 👏🏻
Never curse. Maybe if someone gets it naturally but the rules are the rules.
Stupid question here but what's the little number next to the HP on the stats at the bottom left?
It's friendship! It's 150 for Return access, 175~ when it outpaces Headbutt!
yo yo yo matt been a big fan since the beginning! id say give porygon z a try, i played kanto expansion pak and i think it is the second best pokemon in the game after mewtwo. 135 special, 90 speed, i think 80-90 for hp, def and atk. Also learns Nasty Plot, which makes it unstoppable.
1. Nasty Plot
2. Thunderbolt
3. Ice Beam
4. Recover / Thunder Wave / Hyper Beam / Psychic
Maybe. I'd like to do Porygon 2 one day then look into that. I still think the other nasty plot users that start with better moves like A Chu and A Nine will be better but it would definitely be pretty good.
I would have expected you to use Agility over Double Team, but I'm sure that you had a good reason for it.
Scizor and Leavanny are my two favorite bugs
Two good choices!
Scizor my favorite bug type mon, I was hype for this run my G! Looking forward to a run with Politoed 💯
There's lots of good picks! You never know what will inspire a good run next!
With the only comparison analytics being Foretress and Scizor im interested to see what other potential mons stack up
I need to redo some of the other ones to get to a point where I can make tier cards.
20:30 Better dont call her Name. The Power of Karen cursed your Pokemon, reducing it's stats to 0.
She might sand attack me!
Anyone else getting a weird RUclips glitch where the video always skips from 10:36 to 12:51 ? It seems to happen even if I watch the video on mobile, web browser, or in an app. Maybe I should contact technical support.
Lmao, someone else said that and I had to legitimately run to my computer to see if I had messed up.
Weird!
for the split times you could compare it to the fastest and slowest recorded, then to a medium more typical run
Yea I think it'll vary depending on the Pokemon but I do have some ideas cooking for next time!
Matt I'm 1/10th in. and you haven't criticised about the comments yet, so its going good so far Lmao.
Sounds like a great video in the making!
14:00 CHUCK, BROTHER!!!!
Yea! Yea!
Gotcha, good luck!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to get it where I want and this was a very early trial.
Yes!!!!! I love scizor, i make a scizor for every playthrough if i can. It is a very good pokemon
Not sure how good it'll be at the end but it felt pretty solid to play for sure.
The technician+s.t.a.b.+ swords dance into bullet punch holding metal coat really packs a punch
And it gets priority... perfect combo
I still think Durant is the bug-steel type that slams the hardest. It's really Hustle, more so than its stats, that makes it so good though, so I'm not sure how well it'd translate to gens 1&2.
Oh man, I haven't thought about that Pokemon in a long time. I think in 2020 I got a shiny one and it hasn't crossed my mind until this comment.
Clamps are less cool than scythes, but a steel exoskeleton bug is super double cool so I guess it's a worthy sacrifice.
The clamps are cool but they are like little guys on their own. I wonder if they have sentient thoughts.
Ho hum, if there was ever a hack that incorporated abilities, I wonder how good Scizor would with SD+BP+Technician in the context of gen 2.
The world may never know, at least not from my channel lol.
Seizor got to use fury cutter and I'm really happy that move was finally used(I bet that Forretress was crying in the back , because it can't learn any bug move in gen 2 😂😂😂,and besides Seizor did better). Fury cutter was helping me out in a run I did ,and I realized how good it can be ,once it hits.😊
And about the thing we should all forget about, I really liked the ranting ,and how you were trying to talk off script, it made the video kind of special in a way. And while you were mentioning how hard it was to get that certain voiceover to sound great and engaging , I really felt for you, because it happens to me all the time while making the voiceover part, and I'm always off script😊. But after doing all of this , you kind of feel proud that you did it and we can listen to ut as well. Well done 😮👏👏👏💪
And by the way , I tested the turbo fire ,and it's very odd.
A much more normal comment about how cool I found this bug run. Fancy words. Nice things.
Leave normal comments. Clicking video to video leaving generic comments doesn’t help anyone.
This makes me wish that Scissor was easier to obtain in the original gen 2 game. Nice run!
For sure. Poor Steelix, lol. Cool design but it's just so much worse than Scizor.
I’ve done the Steelix run but curse is banned!
Ingame it just makes Red & Blue fights too easy.@@GymLeaderMatt1987
How exactly does one give a Scizor a haircut?
You polish our guy up!
Uncle Kingler is proud of the next gen 😂
Slapped em.
11:10 thought he said coke 😂
The only part I want to see of rocket is the tower boss if it’s a challenge
The whole hideout and takeover section. Got it.
Nice futurama reference with the name
I used to make them a lot. It was a throwback.
Yeah, I made it to the very very end. I always do, actually. And yes, you were rambling quite a bit but it is all good. You always want to be efficient, you u don't want your videos to be longer than needed, and most other pokemon youtubers are not as good as you with this, so don't be hard on yourself over this
Ha, you mean that you don't like watching 90 minute slogs that repeat information and use awkward scripted jokes?
To be fair, an anti-spinner NPC trainer that actively avoids talking to you would be hilarious in a non-modded Pokemon game
I love the idea. 'Whoops all spinners: No one wants to battle edition'.
Dude, Matt, I can’t believe how long you’ve been rambling about hidden power and…. Wait, what? Where am I? When did I start watching this video?
Heh, you fell right for the trap.
My Fury Cutter merchandise is in storage 😤
Dust it off! It gets TWO uses in the video.
scizor has always been a very cool mon
It is indeed!
Great vid, definitely a real one oh out of ten
Appreciate that, brother.
Second best Pokémon. This will be great.
It was a pretty great run!
You’ll never lose me friend. I don’t comment every video, but I’m around b
Appreciate it!
Wouldn't it have been faster to just use 1 agility instead of x double teams? I think you could even get away with setting it up vs the pikachu.
That is what I was thinking but idk how it would feel to keep it on the move list for so long. I dont remember if theres a move reminder in gen 2
@@TheModdedwarfare3there is no move reminder in gen 2. It made its debut in gen 3
Hitting like for algorithm. Commenting to avoid Scizor's aeroblast
No one can avoid that.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 at 95% accuracy I beg to differ
Out of 20 people, maybe 1 can!
I dont remember what we werent supposed to talk about in the comments.
Keep it that way!
I was going to mention something in the comments section but for the life of me I cannot remember what. Maybe it was +1 comment for the algorithm.
Good enough!
