**This is what I use. I can't give out the ROMs I make. I knew nothing about how to make these ROMs but these are the tools I used to teach myself so here they are.**
🍤 Solo Run Rules: 🍤
►I can only use the title Pokemon in battle. No switching at all, HM Pokemon are required.
►No use of items in battle. Potions, TMs, etc. are allowed outside of battle.
►No use of skips/exploits. This includes the Pokedoll Marowak skip. Badge boost is unavoidable.
►The TMs for Double Team and Toxic are banned. Pokemon that learn similar moves naturally are allowed to use it but not the TM.
►I play on x3 speed and use the in-game time for the run along with resets to rank these runs.

I enjoyed them too but I'm doing something a little wrong. I haven't recorded since June so I'm just peeping the analytics and trying to do the stuff I can control better!
Well hopefully within the next few weeks I'll get to work on Pidgeot but it's a great example of something that doesn't want to face Giovanni. It's easy to see top tier runs just blow it out of the water and it be a waste of time but what's the point of even doing every Pokemon if you let things like Pidgeot/Zapdos/Voltorb/etc. just skip a pretty bad battle. No free passes for any Pokemon!
Lord Mewtwo is set to return in about a Month. He's tired of all these cross gen runs looking like they have good times.
What i like about your backports compared to Scott's , is that you pull the gen 1 Gyarados treatment, and just make the Pokemon so op

Appreciate you watching! Getting stagnant just feels a little meh, nothing you can really do about that. You just got to keep going until you push through or the day comes where you can't really spend the free time anymore!

Appreciate that. Yea, positivity is something I've really been working on. I had some health problems at the start of the year and as we progressed to the summer, I was really in a bad head space about RUclips and bitter about stupid stuff. I had to sit back, take an extended break, and remind myself that this is just for fun and I don't need to see 5 figure numbers every video to have a good time sharing my runs.
These cross gen runs have turned into some of my favorite videos on RUclips. Keep it up Matt! Ghost Fire should do well this run.

Love seing ghost types. I was always sad to see that they're more gimmicky than good. Great video, Matt!
Fix that Psychic immunity and they are pretty solid, imo. Also one of the top two defensive typings in the game. Ghost is far from a gimmick in gen 1 and a fantastic typing!
Alolan Marowak is my favorite Alolan form; the connection to Hawaiian fire dancers is absolutely perfect. Glad to see it do reasonably well despite its slow speed.
Yea, it had some hurdles but did pretty well. The only reason it lost any fights was just bad luck on crits, which unfortunately I have the worst luck with that lol.

Still chipping away at it. It's hard to describe without sounding negative but putting time and effort into something and seeing that dreaded '9 out of 10' or '10 out of 10' on an upload just makes you question yourself. When the numbers go down, it's easy to be like 'man, this isn't working out'.

Hey Matt, hope you're having a good day. Just wanted to say I'm one of the people in the neutral camp about things like fixing bugs, the pokedoll thing and anything really. I just like watching people have fun with these games and if you have more fun with the games I say you do you at the end of the day.
I also personally think it would be boring watching everyone run the exact same rule set for runs too because then they're all just doing the same thing, striving for the best time and then it just comes down to who got the best rng so I like seeing people go off real time/in game time or using pokedoll/not using pokedoll. If I wanted to see the same run over and over I'd just loop the video lol.
Anyways man, keep up the great work FOUR us and looking forward to future content. Been really enjoying the Alolan summer event and just wanted to get that out there since I don't comment much.
Appreciate that! Yea, it would. The solo running community as a whole would just end up like the Parasect race but the Smeargle one was awesome. FOUR short days with a focus on routing and execution rather than watching someone use someone else's route but win because they had a 3 encounter Mt. Moon that's statistically impossible, but I digress, lmao.
Maybe things change, and the channel blows up, and then there's 3,000 Gym Leader Matt clones and I change my stance but I think different rules, different approaches, and all that makes it interesting. I like once a year when Scott hosts a race so anyone can put up or shut up and show their prowess.
This whole idea is fire. I've watched like 20 videos now, and they're so so great!

45 is like on the absolute limit of speeds that you can make work if you are desperate so good thing it wasn't any lower.

Ack, I missed this one till now! I've been looking forward, and I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that Alolan Marowak is one of your favorites.
As I'd mentioned in the Kanto Marowak video, I'd taken more and more of a liking to Cubone and Marowak as I'd gotten older. The Ghost-type callback to Lavender Town, let alone the cool ghostly flames on its bone, were excellent choices. As far as I'm concerned, Alonan Marowak is my favorite regional variant thus far. Though it's not quite the same, I also stan Sirfetch'd for the record, and for similar reasons: taking a Gen 1 fave and making it even better.
I agree on fixing the Ghost-type glitch too. There are plenty of fans who restore cut, lost or bugged content in games already, sometimes to degrees that feel unnecessary or where it wouldn't fit into the final game. I'm very much an armchair archivist among my various beliefs, so I have zero qualms with correcting the bug. Also Shadow Ball is a great move, so it absolutely should be given its full glory.
Heck, the first time I ever beat a 1st-gen Pokemon game was with a bugfix ROM hack, Shin Pokemon Blue. I went with the more minimalist version -- fixes the big glitches, but keeps the ones that are advantageous to the player -- but there exists a "full" version that adds plenty of quality-of-life updates inspired by later games.
Anyway, sorry to talk your ear off with text. I do that with comments sometimes.
All good! It's only been a couple of days. Yea, Alolan Marowak is great and I've dug into the Shin Pokemon code to get some inspiration for things when I was tinkering with it more. It just makes sense. I mean, these things are so custom with the goal of 'how fast' that a stupid bug like that with the oppressive Psychic types just defeat the purpose of even trying Ghost Pokemon. Most people are positive about it though.

As always, another spectacular run! I always thought the design of Alolan Marowak was pretty neat, so seeing it backported was really cool. I feel like of the ones doing backporys, yours have always been consistently great since you try your best to balance the Pokémon itself and what makes it unique with the limitations and spirit of Gen 1. Keep up the work, (TOMBSTONER) BROTHER!
Yea, that's the premise. Just putting the Pokemon back isn't good enough for me. If I was using moves like Lick, learned Flamethrower near the end of the game, etc. it would just be the same boring early game and I wouldn't be having as much fun. The biggest thing I missed in the Sanqui runs was signature moves. I really want those to be represented.

Alolawak 👏 Low Speed is definitely a huge factor in holding Pokemon back for solo runs. If a low Speed mon is tanky it can sometimes deal with it without too much of a problem, but unfortunately Alolan Marowak isn't the tankiest even with the increased Special.
Yea, at the end of the day it was a few crits that caused the big issues.

Yea, Pidgeot live run or even something like Zapdos shows that not all Pokemon are created equal. If you skip it, you are essentially saying that you'll only have to fight the Self Destruct Hiker for early rock types, maybe Gio 2 if that even counts.
Really love those cross gen runs, they are standing out for me. And the quality of your videos is mindboggling with all that coding going on and the cuts. Really appreciating it.

Now that you have stat debuffing moves coded, you could do xerrneas vs yveltal run. Geomancy would be broken in Gen one.

Just saw your entire setup with the overlays and data constantly updating and the coding e.g. for ghosts being coded correctly, and I felt like I needed to leave another comment #appeasethealgorhythm.

I've seen many mono-poké-runs already, but putting newer pokés into the old games isn't something I've really come across, so combined with the professional presentation of a youtuber 10 or even 100 times your size, definitely a sub I love to give and hope you grow and continue to do so.
Appreciate that! I've got about a dozen cross gen runs and I have a few more in the pipeline. I can do a few runs I've been working on certain code for a while but it won't be until September. The next one is Smeargle in Yellow but it was part of a big community race that I hopefully did well in.

I, too, think that setup sweeper strategies get a little samey, but many Pokemon don’t have any alternative better than just leveling up until we sweep, and that’s worse. 😂😭
When I was playing Sun and Moon, I had an Alolan Marowak, and I think I put Flame Charge on its set to boost its speed. 😅
I wouldn't say struggles as much as it just being stagnant and staying the same. I'm just trying to enjoy the process! Yea, at the end of the day I just play the Pokemon as it is. Swords Dance feels overused sometimes but the only other alternative is to over level for the same results at the end of the day.
2 different ghost Marowak in 1 video! For some reason that has caused me to forget what tm28 is.. only an undertaker is coming to mind

The cross gen runs are great. It was really shows off the effect of power creep throughout the generations even if Bruno did perform unusually well this time.
I enjoy your style and the way you handle these runs. If everyone played the games with the same ruleset it wouldn't nearly be as interesting. It's not a zero sum game where enjoying one channels precludes you from enjoying every other channel
I agree with everything you said. I found my own way and you'd be surprised how many people say this or that because bigger channel = better player. That's why I like the races. Open invitation for anyone to put up or shut up with their abilities lol.

Yeah I did love the callback to the ghost from the tower. Such a good Easter egg. Also I really wish the Ghost Sprite was used as a Pokémon as well as it is very clean.
They brought it back for the Ghost type tera in S/V so that's cool.

congrats on the run completion (didn't hear a word this time to quote upon reaching the end, but I did get to the end.) Also, still a shame these don't do better initially, but I appreciate you continuing to push them out despite the burn out. Also, despite the nay-sayers, I think fixing the ghost type makes sense (also, if I wanted to complain, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on as I want to try modding struggle to be "bird" type -- not "flying", the glitched "bird" type -- so it can hit ghosts just to see if like Magikarp would become possible then.)
I did the Magikarp run with bubble/dragon rage and it still took to level 100 with hundreds of resets. Scott did just the dragon rage version and had to use items. It's safe to say struggle could be ghost type to be super effective and you would still struggle to beat the game.
As for views, it's whatever. Despite the video being new, it was recording when Tears of the Kingdom was releasing and I've since just turned it into a positive. You can't control that sort of thing so worrying too much about something that isn't even your job is just negative. I just gotta enjoy it and do the best I can!

Epic failure for me. Took so much time and the views sucked lol. I keep being hopeful and chipping away. You have that mentality where there’s always ‘the one video’ that breaks through and it’s a little disappointing to just essentially get the same results all the time but it’s fine.
If you are expecting to make it big and that’s your goal on RUclips then you might as well not do it, imo.

Yeah I dunno what to add there but the fact I am watching the vid late definitely says something about how I’m less inclined to watch the cross gen runs even as one of your most die hard fans. It's always hit or miss. My most viewed video is a cross gen run, second is a Crystal run. It's hard to know what people want then you try it and it falls flat.
When something isn't your job, sometimes you sit there and you are just like what's the point lol.

It's all part of releasing content into a billion dollar corporation's algorithm that isn't clear to anyone lol. Nothing you can do about it!
Tombstoner Brother.
Shadow Bone is like leagues better than using something like Body Slam or Hyper Beam on Gengar in Gen 1. You know things are funny when you use Body Slam instead of Lick on Gengar. And, I will say, it feels really good to see Ghost's potential offensively after being mishandled pretty badly in Gen 1.
If there was any good Dragon move other than Dragon Rage, Dragon would actually be something, since there's no type that resists or immune to Dragon in Gen 1 besides implementing Steel and Fairy. Even if that uses Dragonite's lower Special.
Haxorus and the eventual Goodra showcase the dragon sentiment well. Haxorus was pretty dominant but I think Goodra will really rise up.
I think this is my favourite regional variant. Either that or Executor

I think Oddish is next week actually then closing out the starters in Crystal. Meganium was a headache to get to feel right.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 understandable the chickorita line is really bulky but not very diverse in it's move pool if I remember correctly. I can imagine the struggle lol
Sometimes it's hard to know what 'good' is in Crystal since I've done some really top tier runs. It was pretty good, but we won't know until more data is gathered. People really shit on that one though, lol. I didn't think it was bad.
Bro 100 percent agree on fixing the ghost typing against psychic also idk if you've ever mentioned it but if possible maybe fix gen 1 misses as well. If it's not going to take much time away to fix
I think it's an interger problem, but it might be able to be fixed. The thing is that it's a 1 out of 256 chance. I can go multiple runs and even videos without seeing one! I do have a funny one in a Mewtwo video whenever I can get around to the footage.
