- The longest boy steps up to the plate today. I've done entirely too many Exeggcute/Exeggutor runs but let's do one of my favorite variants today!

**This is what I use. I can't give out the ROMs I make. I knew nothing about how to make these ROMs but these are the tools I used to teach myself so here they are.**
🍤 Solo Run Rules: 🍤
►I can only use the title Pokemon in battle. No switching at all, HM Pokemon are required.
►No use of items in battle. Potions, TMs, etc. are allowed outside of battle.
►No use of skips/exploits. This includes the Pokedoll Marowak skip. Badge boost is unavoidable.
►The TMs for Double Team and Toxic are banned. Pokemon that learn similar moves naturally are allowed to use it but not the TM.
►I play on x3 speed and use the in-game time for the run along with resets to rank these runs.

Routing in the wood hammer against growlithe is beautiful-
I love Tall Eggy and his battle animation where he just BONKS his head.

Giga Drain deserves a shout out for all the work it put in in this run.
The buffed version is extremely good. Maybe we’ll see leech life one day. It got one of the hugest buffs in the history of Pokémon.
The dynamic power of Wood Hammer reaching the stratosphere against Rock/Ground mons is so satisfying.

Yea this one was rough to fit in. I’m finalizes a change to get me a bigger canvas but working on the logistics of finding extra space on the cartridge.

Thanks! It's software. It just reads the ram of the game, I'm not adjusting anything, it's just giving the values live via a formula.

I've still been watching a lot of your videos, but I've had a hard time keeping up. I'm still a really big fan, and like I didn't go nowhere. I just do all the runs. Whether it be top tier, mid, or a bad one I want to just play Pokemon and do what I feel like playing.

I originally planned Buzzwole but plans changed and I have a few regular videos mixed in to try to offset the lower views on some of these runs.

I always loved Alolan Exeggutor because, of it's funny appearance and interesting typing. I almost forgot about Dragon Hammer existing but this challenge run was awesome Matt.

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy lol. Exeggutor gets Stomp...eventually so it's a better run but I haven't bothered to look. I've almost caught up on my August stuff so I'm focused on Crystal route optimizing before I start school again. It takes me too long to make Crystal videos and I want to cut it down significantly.
This run was nuts, one might even say it was…coconuts 😂

Great run as always. The disrespect on the growlithe was fantastic. Very much agree on regional variants. Think they were a fantastic idea. Word vomit comment over. Looking forward to next week
I think a normal run is next week actually. I know I say some things in the video but lower cross gen views forced in some regular runs.
I'd be surprised if anyone says they dislike regional variants. I think they're one of Pokemon's best ideas. Instead of wasting the multiverse explanation on Mega Stones, it would have been cooler for that to be the explanation behind regional forms, so remakes could more easily incorporate them without having to retcon or otherwise explain their existence in the originals.
I think the let’s go games did a good job just letting you trade. It made sense but you’d be surprised. I had a few comments from some sticklers but I think they are grade. It’s a new take on an existing mon about how they’d adapt in a new region.
Alolan Exeggutor did a lot better than I anticipated. That low speed made me think it would have a higher time and reset count, but it's on par with some of the faster Pokemon regarding time and resets. So good job Alolan Exeggutor :D
It really did do great. Swords dance really helped for the badge boost. We’re going to see a Pokémon with similar speed struggle without a boosting move on stream next. Machop has been rough to plan out.

Real One here! Like our age range and state of residence, I also share your love of Alolan Exeggutor. Kanto Exeggutor was always one of my Top 10 - maybe even Top 5 favorite Pokemon. When you add the fact that I was crazy about the Dragon typing when I was a kid, there was no doubt it would be up there.
Tough luck on a couple resets, but overall - this was another damn good run. Enjoy the trip brother!

At risk of becoming the “Agatha’s Gengars” guy, triple Swords Dance outspeeds both of them, and the badge boost should allow an OHKO against Golbat, saving exactly one move overall but risking an additional Hypnosis/Confuse Ray. 😂

Alolan Exeggutor is a very cool Pokemon, I didn't know about its type, but dragon/grass is pretty nice! Pretty creative! And the moves of gen 7 are so cool too! Dragon hammer is so strong! Pretty nice run Matt!

Entertaining run brother! I love how this grass type just one shot Blaine while burned. Since Alolan Exeggutor based earthquake on using swords dance do you think regular Exeggutor stats wouldve helped doing a faster run since its a little bit faster? Loving the Alolan summer so far.
I'd probably rather have 10 less speed but access to a boosting move. If you are asking if Swords Dance and Earthquake would make the original faster, the answer is yes. Really if Exeggutor just learned Body Slam it would help a lot.

I'm sure I did. I did the routing quite a bit ago to get ahead in the backlog but if I remember right, it didn't put anything in a one shot range that something else didn't give me already.
Oh yeah, regional variants are great and Alolan Exeggutor is one of the best. I like the concept behind the Wood Hammer move, and am kinda surprised it has a Dragon move as its signature. Maybe there's some cultural thing that Gaijin Goombah or someone covered before, IDK. All I know is, between my two guesses of which Pokemon is in the next video, I've got a great feeling gonna really enjoy seeming 'em. :)
I think there is a reason, likely on it’s bulbapedia page but I’m not at home and can’t check. I like the hammer moves considering it’s attack animation is it just hammering it’s head lol.
Regional forms are the best inclusion in a Pokémon game, maybe drawing with abilities and the special/physical split. I especially love environmentally based ones, with Corsola being my favourite. I also love Weezing-Galar's design.

Do you design the battle animations or is there a list of available options you choose from. I know they're only ever on for the champion battle cause they add too much time on to the run, but they were one of my favorite things about the og games.
I just use other animations. No way in hell I'd ever waste hours designing custom animations for a single battle lol. It takes long enough to make as it is.

Wait there were spaceworld regionals? I like the idea of Hisuian Growlithe but it's typing is so bad.
I'd love to see more Pokemon in the future get Dragon Hammer. Even if it doesn't have any additional effect, it's just a tad stronger than Dragon Claw which can clutch an extra KO here and there. Maybe in a future Gen we could get a Dragon specifically built around the idea of using Hammer instead of Claw, like a dragon with big meaty fists and no claws or... something. idk
For sure. The hammer moves are hilarious here because I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it’s attack animation but it just slams it’s whole head down and it’s just one of those things.

Wow! I rarely played pokemon past gen 4 so I am less familiar with regional forms but this has to be a top run! Grass in gen 1 plus dragon is nice!

I've thought about it. I've made up a lot and out of 2 months, like 7 of the 9 runs will be cross gens but they really aren't performing that well, which is a bummer. Maybe one day we'll get to it. I need to do a little more work, take a little time off, and come back to analyze things.
Specifically the state of the solo running community feels bad atm. We used to schedule around each other and lately the communication has been complete ass and it feels so disconnected. For example today a channel 5x bigger than me just released a video in the time slot I've been using all year and it killed my views. It's hard to stay motivated when things like that keep happening!
I'm very sorry to hear that, Matt. I did notice it as well and thought it's odd. I hope you can connect as a community again, maybe some friendly competition between streamers or so to break the silos? Regardless, I do hope you find your motivation again and can continue having fun playing, recording, and streaming and giving us viewers a great time.
I’m sure it’ll be fine. There’s just barely any creators doing consistent content anymore. A lot just go mia for weeks and months at a time. Maybe I’ll move the time slot up higher but I’m just going to do my own thing, carve my own niche.

his stats aren't bad (ok, other then that speed... Yikes!), we'll see if dragon/dargon secondary type and his moveset salvage this run (oh, and which experience group he's in.)
at sylph co. custom mooves look promising, missed why they didn't help wth Koga, guessign it's due to lack of power and a weekness of your pokemon to his attacks.
at end: well played. Did better then I was expecting ,but definately lower then could be hoped. All in all, though, the place isn't horrid and definately not the worst.

Uncle Koga is on the rise. I have to change Machop to red version on the next stream because he’s extremely problematic in that run lol.

Arcanine has some solid stats but Growlithe really does have bad stats.

I like how this pathing made you fight the leaders at pretty much exactly the point the game expects.
Erika in my opinion strongest Gym Leader in gen 1, Sabrina grossly overrated.
Was very impressed with how smooth the Lorelei fight was.
Lots of practice and number crunching, brother. The methodology is to just naturally play the first time and by the time you get to the 3rd run, you push it to the limit, get the exact pathing and vitamins to get through the toughest battles at the lowest level consistently. It’s like a puzzle you kind of solve backwards. It’s like ‘ok I need this speed and need to survive this many hits for Lorelei and how do I achieve that efficiently’ I guess. It’s a fun process.

Just something I think should be a rule, but you do what you want. If a move existed in Gen 1, it's power and accuracy should be the same as Gen 1.

My favorite Alolan Exeggutor sprite is for Gen 3. The big goofy guy has like a little loop in his neck in that one.

Koffing doesn’t learn SD until 40 so there’s no way I’d ever just be fighting a random one without routing it in and if I’m routing it in, it’s getting one shot.
Koffing is likely a bottom 5 Pokémon. It’s more threatening to be ice punched by Jynx than to be hit by Koffing.
I think Gamefreak put Growlithe in the slow level up group because it evolves into a powerful pokemon, Arcanine, at least by base stats. It's similar to Dratini and Magikarp, they didn't want us players to get powerful Pokemon quickly. Also, is this Red with Yellow sprites?
Yes, it's yellow sprites in this one. Growlithe is a weird choice for the slow group since it can just evolve via fire stone but it's just bad and you'd have to get a high level Growlithe to even have good moves on Arcanine since it doesn't learn anything via level up. It's a sad Pokemon lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 That's a good point. Growlithe doesn't get a good moveset until Gen IV. However, base stats of 350 is high for a first stage pokemon. I went through a few, and some that are close to Growlithe are Pancham, Scraggy, Krabby (because of it's insanely high attack), Staryu, and Clamperl. Wailmer has higher base stats of 400, and Larvesta is the only early stage fire type with higher base stats than Growlithe at 360. Also, Makuhita is notable with a pitiful base stat of 237! You and other RUclipsrs prove that moveset, level up group, and typing are more important than base stats because it allows weak pokemon like Gastly and Poliwaag to be better than fully evolved pokemon, especially in Gen 1 because of it's broken mechanics.
