My daughter suggested trying the coleman start up at 1/2 flame or less, and it really works much better. I ran these with premium unleaded fuel as well and it works fine but the stoves are stinky when not running.
I usually pump ten times then start it and as soon as it's getting blue flame then I pump another 10-15 times. with that, it is less yellow flame and less black carbon stick on outside of the generator.
