- Today we have a Coleman stove model 425 Series E For teardown, cleaning, maintenance, and rebuild. Also, the fuel valve is leaking and will need to be addressed. The fuel tank was not only disassembled and cleaned but also powder coated due to the poor state of the paint. The whole fuel valve is disassembled as the packing is also to be replaced. The packing was purchased at oldcolemanparts. This model uses the small valve stem packing

Totally the BEST how-to video I have ever seen on RUclips. No waisted monolog, great tips, every detail covered, good camera work, editing and audio. Thank you!
It is rare to find someone who has the mind of an engineer, skill with a camera, and great command of clear, precise, English. This would have been enjoyable even if I did not own such a stove (and an old, single-mantle lantern, that still works great after forty years). Thank you!
You're welcome.
That is so funny, you said single mantle lantern. I was at a flea market a day before a storm was to hit here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada where I purchased a 23-year-old Coleman 286 that has never been out of the bow, styrofoam still around the glass, and a 425 Coleman stove that has never been turned on, but I was worried about dried up seals, leathers, etc., and here I am, making sure I don't burn the house down by lighting them up without educating myself first.
I only hope that it is not too hard to find that valve seal for the gas valve on the 425. I assume all the seals on both units here are dried up and dangerous.
@@retrotechandelectronicsPays you a really nice detailed compliment and your dumbnavyass says….you’re welcome⁉️⁉️⁉️
Well said. That’s what I’d like to comment.
Thank you Sir! I’ve got a 425C that I’ve got to rebuild. Now I understand the process.
I’m in the midst of tearing down and rebuilding a Coleman 413F stove . Your video ( I’ve watched numerous ) is by far the BEST !! I can now continue with the rebuild with a lot more confidence!👍👍 Thanks .
This is by far the best how to video I’ve seen on RUclips on anything ever! Thank you very much for taking the time to do such an amazing job at explaining, showing and demonstrating the process
Wow... thanks.
A no nonsense, straight forward instructional. Great camera positioning. Well done sir.
My wife calls it an overabundance of tripods and gimbals for all occasions
I have an old Coleman stove that I would like to disassemble and clean up so I have watched at least a dozen videos over the last few days. Without a doubt, this is the most informative "how to" video I have found. Thanks for being so thorough & clear in explaining the parts, clean up & repair process, and proper storage.
Glad to help
@@retrotechandelectronics Yes, I agree. I had one tech who really wasn't clean and I screwed up the fuel tank, then another guy make it more clear. This guy is very clear and explain things well.
They are not too hard to work on…. Take pictures of disassembly but not complicated…. Fixed mine it took two weeks for fuel tube to get here but it has not given me problems in over two years
Yes, I really learned from this video. Such careful, precise work. The quality of photography, just everything came together. You are definitely gifted, thank you!
When i got my 1st coleman stove a few yrs ago i watched many videos to learn all i could about them.
I occasionally watch some now as a refresher.
I have to say this video is the most thorough one ive seen of all. Thank u.
One tip--i use very fine steel wool to wipe down the needles, tubes and brass prts. and then spray down with a cleaner.
Excellent video. Just bought a 45 year old stove like this . Glad there is people like yourself that makes these videos
Thanks 👍
The best how to video I've ever seen on RUclips on any subject. Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
So great to see & hear a lucid, logical, eloquent disertation. Well done! These are great SHTF stoves. Everyone should aquire one for camping, winter storm power outages.
Thank you kindly!
I have one that is over 50 years old and has never been maintained, and after hurricane Ida I brought it out and it burned great one gasoline. I used the same stove for 5 months on the road in 1999. One of the most elegant engineering designs I have ever seen!
I watched the whole teardown. Great job on the stove. I couldn't do the breakdown of the 425 I have but would love to do it...I'm not sure I could put it back together again. Lol. Great job!
Just picked up the same stove at a flee market . New in the box , never used . Got it for 20 bucks .
Excellent video demonstration...I inherited 2 of these from my late father in law, been sitting for at least 6 years. Been scared to mess with them, but after this I'm comfortable with getting them back into usable condition. Thank you for excellent demo on complete teardown
Fantastic in-depth video on the proper maintenance of these old stoves.
Thank you for helping people keep these things going. The modern day Coleman products are no-where near as good as this era.
Glad to help
Your the first person that did it the right way . Powder coating thumbs up 👍 .
More to come.....
I have watched other videos on cleaning these stoves. Your video is the most comprehensive and thorough demonstration of the complete tear-down, cleaning, and reassembly of the Coleman stove. Your video is a confidence booster.
Glad it was helpful!
If you don’t already publish instructional videos for a living, you definitely could. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clearer explanation of steps involved on any subject matter. Well done.
I hear that alot.... Thats not my actual profession though.
thanks for this video. it helped me get my garage sale 425c running.
Excellent!
This was fantastic. It is the most comprehensive yet understandable disassembly and reassembly I think I have ever watched.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks I have my Grandfathers old 425B I plan on restoring. This is going to be on repeat in my garage for sure.
Thanks for your time it's going to help me with my dad colman 413G were having to put him ina nursing home
Best video on these things I have seen.....Bobby below is spot-on.
Fixed my leaky '84 single fuel, worked like a charm. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
The video was clear and easy to follow the rebuild was also great
The font redo was good but should have refinished and repainted the rest of the stove .😃
Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm guessing this is a mid 1970s model Coleman Stove.
We had one. Great stove. Great memories. Great Video.
Hmm. I didn’t check for a date code. I should and post in comments, thanks.
Very nice video with concise easy to understand commentary.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
It's very apparent you know what the hell you're talking about. Definitely not a rookie. Very well described. No BS. Excellent. Thanks!
I’m glad that you found it helpful.
My grandfather recently passed away and he had one of these in storage. I took it thinking it was a propane stove and almost took it to the scrap yard thinking it was a piece of crap before I did some research on how it works. I thought it was the coolest thing. When I got home from work, I took it outside and with the old fuel inside and it being in storage for who knows how long it lit right up and worked perfectly. It's the 425B so I believe it's at least 60 years old. Can't want to pull it apart and get it cleaned up. Your video will definitely help. Thank you
Enjoy it!
Excellent video, I mean excellent. I'm in PSL, FL. Every few years I have to bring it out for a hurricane. My great aunt bought mine for me for my 16th birthday, 49 years ago.
I subbed
Thank you. This was very well filmed and narrated. Was straight to the point and didn’t waste any time, had all the relevant information I needed.
Youre welcome.
Ditto on all the positive comments. I thought I was Mr. Fix It. Top notch!
Excellent video, thank you for posting it.
Just got down a 425E from a shelf in the garage where it has been sitting for 30+ years. The tank had some coleman fuel in it. It was my folks which I inherited. Oiled the pump (leather cup) and emptied the old fuel into a can. Found an excellent YT video (this video!) that shows how to test the tank and valves before you put fuel into the tank. My tank & valves tested OK. Then filtered some of the old fuel thru a paper coffee filter back into the tank, pumped it up and it fired right up and ran great. Pretty amazing after 30+ years of storage. Brought back childhood memories of camping & cooking.
Very informative video, thanks! Now I have something to search for when I go rummaging.
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid. Thank you for going through the entire process. Well done sir.
Thanks for watching!
Bravo. I just pulled my 425 out of the attic, which we used one time 30 years ago. Looks brand new but it is shooting yellow flames out of the burner. Now I have a idea what we need to do.
Thanks so much for this! My stove had accumulated some residue over the years, and the burn was a little weak. With the help of this video, it's running like new again, despite its trail-won battle-scars.
Glad I could help!
Your video is impressive to say the least and you are very articulate. Respect sent and Thank You.
That was excellent. Good precise english skills and excellent camera work.
Thank you very much!
Such an excellent video! It should win a prize for quality.
Glad you think so!
Love that Army Stove!
Thanks!
I would have used a scotchbrite pad and Dawn dish detergent and water to clean the parts. Then, reassemble the stove back together. Your video helped me fix my Colman 425.
Excellent information on a complete rebuild of these stoves...I have 2 that have been stored for decades that need to be gone through & rebuilt to get them functional again...I have a 425D & 425E...can't wait to have 2 fully functional classic Coleman stoves!
Make a video and share…. It would help us get more ideas to fix and restore them.
They probably work just fine as they are!
Great job. Thanks!
Perfect how-to, thanks. I have one we haven't used since the '70s I'll have to go through. Thanks for serving. USAF 1958-1970
Its probably still service ready
Just what I was looking for, thank you!
You video was EXCELLENT!!! Even a 74 year old woman could do it after watching you. Appreciate it
Glad it was helpful!
Yes, that's me! I'm a senior but love camping and the assorted cooking gear. So much fun!
