We were just there last week and the lake is 20ft higher and to get to that spot was muddy and very windy. Best spot I’ve been for dispersed camping. Water flows were heavy from the melting snow so lake rose quickly. Fishing was slow but the sot made the trip a success
We've fished just about all the lakes in Mammoth with either a boat, kayak or canoe. You pretty much have to get out in the deeper water where there is less fishing pressure when fishing is tough. Once, we were paddling around Convict Lake in a two man kayak and we hit our limit fairly fast. As we were paddling just out of the casting reach of shoreline anglers, we could see the big ones down at the bottom. Those trout are smart. Same thing happened at Big Bear. We were paddling in the kayak about 200 feet from shore and found a honey hole.
Yeah I agree 100%. I should have brought a float tube or kayak. The wind did not help either with a fly rod. I get to redeem myself in the next video using a spin cast rod and going deep. Should be out in about a week. Thanks for watching!
Great video, new to your channel but have followed Daniel and Tish for quite a while. Doing the 395 areas Thanksgiving, I want to hit up Lone Pine/Alabama Hills, Bishop, Coyote Flats and would like to see the Bristlecone Pines as well. Any advice for a first timer in those areas? I also run the same tent and awning on my 4Runner, love it! Thank you. Tom
Thank you for subscribing! By thanksgiving some of those higher elevation areas may be hard to get too. Alabama Hills, Mammoth Lakes and Bridgeport are all fun areas to explore, just note the elevations. Check out my Alabama Hills to Death Valley video for a great winter time trail to explore in Death Valley.
Great video
Thanks Neville!!’ 🙏

Is that Grant lake on the loop ?
I will say it is not Garnet, but yes one of the lakes in the loop. Thanks for watching!
@@flyfisher530 I think I know which lake that is as we've walked it a few times and almost got the van stuck there too. Mums the word.
