I really enjoyed watching this. It’s been several years since I’ve held a fly rod. I live near here too. Most of my fishing was up on the North Fork of the Yuba, South Fork of the Yuba and several lakes in the area. Keep making your videos. Thanks
Awesome video brings back memories Haven’t been there in forever used to pack up my 10 speed bike when I was 13 going there Georgetown coloma an more from fair oaks long rides great times
@ I was just passing through Cool the other day on my way to Georgetown. All of these little communities in the foothills here are so unique. Glad I found your channel. 👍
Thanks for this video. I have been wanting to explore where we live a whole lot. Again I’m in Auburn. Funny you mentioned step 22 to me in a comment from another video as I bought some gear from them and I kept looking at the guys shirt and I asked him if that was Barry’s Bronco since it has 25 on the side and he said it was and I think he said that Barry was somehow either backing them or something in that capacity. Love Barry. I use to watch him when he was in high school when I grew up in Foster City(in the peninsula of the Bay Area) and I use to hang with Bobby his younger brother at times around at parties. I know Barry is going through a lot right now and I hope he is coming up to PNW. Hopefully you were able to talk to him and see if he was. Rip to one of the greatest baseball players ever if not the greatest, Willie Mays. One of the most humblest people I have ever been around mainly when I was younger and would run into him in San Mateo at Serra High school baseball games that Barry was playing in oh and along with Joe DiMaggio. Crazy. Anywho, I’m in Bend now and I will see you at PNW. Are you gonna be by Step 22 all weekend?
Yes I will be there and it looks like Barry will too. You made some great comments about Willie and growing up in the Bay Area. I grew up in Santa Cruz and had a poster of Willie on my wall as a kid. He will be missed but never forgotten! 🙏
My old stomping grounds before I moved to texas. Caught my PB rainbow in that section and also around the Auburn recreation area near the confluence. All wild trout and spectacular scenery. Sucks that area got burned in the mosquito fire haven't seen what it looks like after the fire and I'm a bit afraid to. Ruck a chucky is a nice spot too
Yeah the fire damage sucks but it will come back someday. It really is still a beautiful canyon and you can already see signs of recovery in the vegetation. I totally agree with you about the wild trout, they are spectacular fighters and fun to catch! Thanks for watching!
Yeah I've had a lot of fun times in that canyon. Before I had a car I'd ride my mountain bike from citrus heights up to the confluence and caught nice browns and rainbows mostly with spin tackle but I've had some fun times with the flyrod. Especially that section below oxbow before it becomes private property. I've seen all sorts of wildlife including a black bear with a cub in Auburn, a really big jet black one at ruck a chucky(good thing he was on the opposite side of the river😂)lots of grey foxes,a few eagles, minks and so on. Almost got my hand bit by a rattler when I had to catch my balance on a boulder. The north fork middle fork tributary is a beautiful little stream with no dams but the fishing is hit and miss there. Sometimes you'll catch a bunch plus see and fail to catch some. Then there's days you can't find a single fish
@@bssaassin1900 Wow you had some great times there! I love the bike ride story, I used to do the same thing growing up in Santa Cruz, riding my bike from near the beach to the summit road area in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I have not seen a bear or rattlers on the American but know they are there...I now use my walking stick as a sort of blind man stick kicking the brush ahead of me for the snakes. Great stuff!
@@flyfisher530 Santa Cruz is awesome a friend of mine would rent a beach house for the weekend in Aptos and we'd go to the boardwalk or just chill out on the beach
I love the picture of the trout, jumping out of the water. I just subscribed to your channel and I just met you at the Overland Expo. Maybe one day we can get together and do some Fly Fishing together.
Awesome spot! Can you recommend a good budget fly rod/reel? For a beginner 😃🤘🏼I grew up a spinning guy and want to have that option. Great video, I enjoyed every minute of it.
